J.Crew Cardholder Email: You've Got To See This Bag

A big "thanks!" to Blumre, Ashley, and Hexicon who were kind to share with us the latest email sent to cardholders about the Jaime Bag. The subject for the email was, "Cardmembers, you've got to see this bag..." It made me smile, because as many of you have pointed out, this bag has been available for awhile. Cardholders seem to be getting quite a few emails lately which I think is great (okay two- but that is a start!) :)

Regular: $495.00

This bag was actually discussed in the "Love Or Loathe: The Shoulder Strap Trend" post. I personally do love the bag, as I like the optional shoulder strap. I also think the colors the bag is available in are gorgeous: burnt sienna, dark cloud, tulip, honey glaze (back ordered already until late December of 2008!) . However, the price tag is a bit pricey for me to actually purchase.

What do you think of the Jamie bag? Would you buy it? Do you think it is worth the price tag, or would you go with another label for that price (e.g. Coach)? Do you agree with the subject line, is this bag one that you've got to see? :)

  1. I would find it hard to spend this amount of money on a bag from J.Crew, and would opt for another brand. However, if I WERE to choose a J.Crew bag it would be the Large Oslo Bag seen Here . I would choose the Champagne color since I already own a Coach bag in a color similar to the Terra Cotta. I would like the Jaime bag much better if it didn't have that shoulder strap, but I still don't think it would be worth the $495...I would have to see it in person to make my decision. :)

  2. I have a question (maybe not toally appropriate for posting here- I apologize). I used to get the weekly J. Crew emails for years, then, suddenly, I stopped getting them about 6 months ago. I've called customer service at LEAST 5 times to get me back on the mailing list, and they tell me that my email is in the system and I should be getting them, but I never get them. I am a cardholder and FREQUENT buyer. The last few times I called, they blamed it on the new system, but I wasn't getting them long before that. I miss my emails! What do you think I can do? I even checked my online profile and it is selected that I wish to get the emails. I check my spam folder and they are not there either. Please help!

    xoxo,
    Muffy

  4. The Oslo bag appears to be inspired by the Ralph Lauren Stirrup bag seen in this pic of Christie Brinkley: Click Here. *Note: the pic was borrowed from Molly's blog*...THANKS MOLLY!

  5. I ordered a J Crew bag before the upgrade...never received it...probably won't order one of their bags again as I prefer LV and Chloe to J Crew when it comes to handbags. I ordered the one I didn't get in a moment of weakness on night when I was in need of a J Crew fix. LOL.

  6. I don't buy calfskin for the same reason I don't eat veal. I wonder if this is an issue for many people.

  7. I would like it better without the shoulder strap and tassles, but I'm like FFM, I find it hard to spend that kind of money on a J. Crew bag.

  8. Muffy: I had the exact same problem! I finally added my work email address to their email last and have been receiving some emails there, but definitely not all of them that I hear about on this site. I finally signed up for a J. Crew credit card this weekend, so hopefully I'll finally get at least the cardmember emails...

  9. muffy, I had the same problem for years...it never mattered what I did...when I finally moved and got a different email then it worked fine....sorry, but I never found a solution for 3 years and just relied on my sister to forward me hers....I had a JCrew card too and spent a fortune there....didn't matter....I even tried having my local store input my email address...you could try that maybe.....

  10. I would buy a Jamie, but not at that price...Of course, handbags are my weakness! Shave about $100-$150 off and then we'll talk...

I would also want to touch and feel one too - I like my leather supple...I'm presuming this is a Borge G. too?

  11. I like the bag in Honey Glaze. It's a color you won't find anywhere else. I would pay between 200.00-300.00 max, and I would remove the tassles and long strap. It is VERY Marc Jacobs inspired.....it reminds me of a stripped down Blake Bag.

There is a picture of this bag in Honey Glaze in the new catalog. It's the one with that striking older model. The cashmere sweater she's wearing has honey glaze threads running through it, and they pick up the color of the bag.....yummy.

  12. I would buy my sister or mother a J. Crew bag over a Coach bag any day. It's really annoying seeing women with uninspiring and ugly bags with the obnoxious C's all around the bag. It just looks so cheap. But these bags look comparable maybe not to Marc Jacobs but perhaps Marc by Marc (especially since they are within the same price range).

  13. Hmm...just realized that the tasseles aren't just decorative....they operate the zippers....oh, well. Anyhow, the honey glaze one is backordered till November, and will probably sell out. I'm sure most people are using the 15-20% off on this one, makinging it around 400.00ish, which isn't that bad. The pleating on this bag is lovely.

  15. I wish this was a real cardholder incentive...not some silly email...big deal...now if it was a coupon for card holders only then I would be excited...some boring bag I can look at myself online without a card...no thanks...wasting my inbox space...

  17. Coach has a lot of nice new styles without the Cs on them. Some are very classy looking, though they have raised their price point on the larger bags to about $800. If I were spending $500 on a bag I would probably go with Coach, Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole where they have ongoing care/reapir service for their products. I also like Hype, Maxx NY (slightly lower price point) as well as Rafe NY, Elliot Lucca and Francesco Biasia.

  18. I agree with FFM: I would like the bag more if it didn't have the shoulder strap! Also, I'd want to know if it was comfortable to sling over my shoulder. I like having my hands free when I'm carrying a purse. :)

  19. Anon at 4:09PM: I agree - I think there are some lovely Coach leather bags out there. The one thing I always keep in mind about Coach is that a few times a year they offer a PCE (Preferred Customer Event) card that always discounts between 25-30% off, generally for all but the very most recent releases. That is significant in my book and far more than JCrew currently offers their cardholders/preferred buyers.

  20. I LOVE this bag in Burnt Sienna, but like others I will wait until the price is AT LEAST down to $300.

Muffy- I had the same thing happen to me with emails and I had to set up a new email address. Even now, I don't get all of the emails.

  21. I'll stick to Coach...the J.Crew purses are pretty "meh".

  22. I definitely considered this bag. I'm looking for a bag that has a shoulder option, closes completely/securely, and is large enough to fit a laptop. However, I need it to be in classic black...and the price tag is indeed a bit steep. If this was $100 less, and came in black, I would have jumped on it.

  23. Auryane - That is an unusual thing about J Crew bags. They very rarely come in black. I probably would have sprung for this bag in black, but don't want to spend $500 for an ''in'' color. I have loved this bag from the minute it debuted.

  24. Thanks to everyone who has the same problem! I don't feel so bad anymore! Maybe I'll sign up with a different email address. Although, the one they stopped sending emails to is the one that is attached to my J. Crew credit card. Grrr.
