J.Crew Secret Sale on Wool Fiona Jacket

Thanks to Gigiofca who let us know in the "J.Crew Stores: 40% Off & New Markdowns" post, that there may be a "secret sale" on the new wool Fiona in stores. The sale price may be $158 from the regular $198. As gigiofca pointed out, there are three fabulous colors to choose from: orange sherbert, grey, & pink rhubarb.

Gigiofca was lucky enough to purchase the Orange sherbet (which is my personal favorite color of the three)! :)

Are you planning to get the new wool Fiona Jacket now that it may be on sale? Do you own the new wool Fiona jacket? If so, what do you think of the jacket? ("Thanks!" in advance for the review! We really appreciate it!)

  1. Cool, I had planned on visiting a J Crew store today!

Hey, can someone help me with this question. I VERY STUPIDLY forgot the invoice for one of my returns. Will they still credit my J Crew card? I printed out the web page of my order with the price - I hope that helps!

  2. I love love the wool Fiona jacket in the orange color. I think it is so gorgeous. Sadly enough though, I still can't afford it at $158. I think I'm pretty content on waiting and maybe it'll go on sale even lower sometime in the near future before they sell out.

  3. My store ACTUALLY HAS this jacket...I tried it on, and it just doesn't look good on me, so I will not be purchasing it. I am falling more and more in love with my Andrea Jacket in Honey Glaze each time I try it on, or even look at it, so it will be my main jacket purchase for the Fall collection...I will wait for the others to drop in price before making another jacket purchase. :)

molly: you will be fine with that return...you probably don't even need the print out if you purchased it with your J.Crew card...they will have the info available to them in the store. :)

  4. Very silly question. Is the Wool Fiona online? I am not anywhere near a store, but think the colors sound so yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I honestly don't find it that inticing. Not sure why. I guess I would prefer trekking to the nearest outlet to score a bella for that price.

    ReplyDelete
  6. FFM: I love Andrea, bought it even though it didn't fit me, and returned it when I came to my senses. I had to buy size 6 because of my broad shoulders but it lost its shape around the chest and waist. I thought I will take it in at the tailor but decided aganist it. Which size works for you?
Also I just called my store and not only wool heringbone fiona is on secret sale but also velvet ecole. The prices are $158 and $148 respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  7. lavert: I am in the same boat as you with no store nearby. Is it online yet, or does someone have a picture to share? Bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I meant enticing (my brain is fried I'm not even sure that is the correct spelling). Yes, the velvet ecole is on special that's right! 148 at my store too. I wonder why no pics are online of the herringbone fiona. Weird. What do you guys think of the Ecole at that price?

    ReplyDelete
  9. sky: I have the Andrea in size 4, and it fits well...looks so chic and Chanel-like...I plan to wear it with my Silky Jersey Pleated top in White or even Sea Salt and my 5 Pocket Trouser Jeans in Dark Rinse, with my Gold Leather Skinny Belt. Now I just need the weather to cool down. ;)

  10. I think I posted this in another topic, but thought I would here, as the post is actually about what my comment is about. :)

I feel like the "secret" part must be pretty subjective. I bought the Fiona on Wednesday and it rang up for full-price. When I called another store in my area Thursday afternoon, they told me the sale price (168) with no prompting at all. So maybe I missed the window for the sale price?

I do remember jcrewbug mentioning on Wednesday that their store had a discounted Fiona, so maybe my store isn't doing the promotion yet, I did call the other store to find out. :) Anyway, just me thinking outloud.

  11. FFM: I tried size 4 and it was tight. It also seemed uneven in the shoulders so I went for a bigger size. There was only one size 4 in the store and maybe it was one with problems. I am leaning towards Lucille now but maybe should give Andrea a second chance? It is so elegant :)

  12. Re secret sale on Ecole, please consider me to have inserted my standard whine about store customers getting deals not offered to web customers. :-)

Since the wool Fiona isn't even on-line, at least I can't complain that the web customers are being overcharged for it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. sky: I really do like the Andrea Jacket, and it is very elegant, as you said. :) I also like the look of the Lucille, and would love to try it on, but unfortunately I doubt that my store will ever get it in for me to do so. :( I wish they both came in Black or Camel, so that they would have more than one or two seasons of use, before the colors become too dated. That is my fear with some of the more vibrant colors...they will not have longetivity like the basic, neutral, wear forever colors.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Just out of curiosity--
Those of you who've tried on the Lucille, would you characterize it as a blazer (golly, that term really dates me)--you know, something you would wear indoors, or is it more like outerwear? The style is really cute but I was wondering how heavy the boucle is.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And FFM, I think you're right about the color selection--I would consider the Lucille if the color offerings were different.

Now I'm really going to date myself--anyone remember "Color Me Beautiful"? Molly? Any other 40-somethings? It was a book about selecting the clothing and makeup colors that are most flattering for one's individual coloring. Very big in the 80s. As a teen I worked in a fabric store and the company actually paid for training on it, and all the customers would come in with their little swatch books to choose fabric colors.

Anyway, some of the advice was good, but it's very limiting, and of course being exposed to it at a young age poisoned my mind and left me thinking I can't wear all the colors J.Crew is showing now, like the golds, oranges, and rhubarb reds. I really had to push myself with that orange Candace.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Of course I remember Color Me Beautiful! I'm a winter, though I've found that with my silver hair, I can do a bit more with color. I never thought I could wear orange until the last couple of years - I wear it all the time now. I also wear Spicy Mustard, which CMB would say is a big no no for me. I just make certain to factor in colors that do work for me, especially near my face, like white, or black and white patterns. One of my fave outfits is the short sleeved zebra tee from last winter with a spicy mustard Jackie on top and big old white beads and black pants. I get a ton of compliments on it too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm going to try spicy mustard and burgundy/royal purple too. :-) I have a scarf from last winter that has this combo (it was one of the senic scarves) and it's very nice.

In short, I adore spicy mustard and work extra hard to make it work on me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. FFM: Off topic here but which color would you recommend for the Las Palmas bag? Espresso, platinum gold or yellow?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree that Lucille's color maybe out of fashion by next season but I am at a point where my closet is full of safe, neutral pieces and I am craving for something fresh, new, and totally seasonal :) I actually like their color palette of yellows and orangy reds - I never thought I would look good in them until I tired them on.
Lucille definetly looks like an outdoor jacket but I also wonder how thick it really is. Andrea for example was thicker than I expected.

    ReplyDelete
  20. vivian-i just saw your las palmas on another thread. poor me, I had to actually work vs. blog this am!
I like the gold the best even though I am so afraid it will get dirty. But, I also like the other colors ALOT, I would be happy with anyone. How do you feel about carrying it into fall? too summer?

re: Fiona-do you think they would let you use the secret 20% along with the secret sale price?? or is it just toooo many secrets???

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hee, Molly, I'm a winter too, a fair-skinned, dark-eyed brunette. And I love your silver hair--I think an allover silver like yours can be very stunning.

CMB is right in that I really do feel better in very dark colors (black or espresso) or primary colors, which is why I just love J.Crew's azalea. I'm not even going to admit how many azalea items I own! I also really like purple, which has been hard to find lately . . . so I must get that dream tie sweater in the eggplant.

    ReplyDelete
  22. melanie: did you get a price adjustment for your fiona?...it's within the 7 day window that it went on sale so you should get it price adjusted. i don't know about this "secret" sale business. do they tell everyone in the store about it? if not, it doesn't seem fair. is it really supposed to be a secret? it seems silly. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. hexicon: I bought the Lucille yesterday and would say it's outerwear mostly because of the collar, it's a little bulky. But the weight of it is not as heavy as I expected, more a midweight jacket.

ffm: I agree with you about the colors of the Lucille, that's my biggest concern too. For that price, I definitely want longevity! Also, I posted this in another thread but this is what my mom said when she saw it today, "TRES CHIC! WOW!" (She's the first one who would have said return it if it was too out there.)So I'm keeping it :)

btw, my hammered silk tank has now been short shipped for the THIRD time!

    ReplyDelete
  24. caw: I bet they would honor both the sale price and the 20% discount. You may have to be persistent, but it's worth it!

    ReplyDelete
  25. sky: I completely understand where you are coming from with desiring color...I have also been trying to break out of my habit of wearing neutrals, and have fallen in love with all of the orange and bright flame colors that J.Crew has been offering. Living in Florida there is not a huge need for heavier jackets, so that is my main reason for getting the Andrea, as opposed to the Lucille, since it just looks like a heavier weight (I could be wrong, though). If I am able to get a great deal on the Lucille, then I will probably go for it...I would personally get the orange to go with my coloring...I don't look good in Spicy Mustard, at all.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I meant that the Lucille looks like a heavier weight jacket than the Andrea, if it didn't sound clear in my last post.

    ReplyDelete
  27. OT but can anyone give me Mickey Drexler's email? I'm interested in interning with j.crew ,but can't seem to find any information about it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. vivian: I LOVE the Platinum Gold in the Las Palmas...that would be my choice if I were able to get it...it will also carry well into Fall/Winter, as it falls into the "Winter White" category when those seasons arrive...completely appropriate. :) (It would be gorgeous with the Honey Glaze Andrea or Dream-Tie Cardigan in Honey Glaze, Silky Jersey Top in Sea Salt, and Dark Denim Jeans w/Gold accessories).

    ReplyDelete
  29. ffm-how about "polyvoring" for us with las palmas, I did one this morning but love more inspiration

thanks sally, you give me courage , I may check it out after work....

    ReplyDelete
  30. This is OT, but ffm's remarks about honey glaze reminded me of what my sa told me this week. He said that they are selling out of honey glaze. He told me that if I wanted anything in ivory or honey glaze to buy it while it was still around. I don't know if this is true for ALL b&m's and online, but that was his advice. Hope I'm not enabling anyone to spend more money on a honey glaze item! :P

    ReplyDelete
  31. weab: Congratulations again on the Lucille! I'm sure it looks absolutely stunning on you, and it's always a plus when your mom says it's a keeper, as they tend to be brutally honest...at least mine is, anyways. ;) I would really love to try it in the Orange...wish my store carried them...I really don't want to have to order it from the website just to try it on. Plus my biggest reservation is the fact that it just doesn't get that cold for that long in Florida, and I'm afraid I wouldn't have that many opportunities to actually wear it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. FFM: Ha, caw is one post quicker than I am! Thanks for the suggestions! I was going to ask you for more polyvore sets with the Las Palmas. I love the platinum gold and hope I can keep it clean with a two-year-old in tow.

    ReplyDelete
  33. caw: good luck! Let us know what happens!

ffm: I think the andrea and Lucille are actually the same weight. but the lucille is more bulky so it does appear to be more of a coat.imo

    ReplyDelete
  34. hexicon: I have the Lucille in orange. I love the style and it's very flattering on. I would definitely consider it a coat/jacket. The boucle is not too heavy, but the jacket is lined. It will work for fall and early winter.

    ReplyDelete
  35. OMG Alexis I can't keep up with your posting. i was wondering why the blog seemed slow today and its because there was another post up here. YOU are fast. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  36. math teacher: That is so true! My PS at my b&m was saying the same thing yesterday about the honey glaze. He said everyone is buying that color right now so we are going to see tons of it all around.

ffm: so true about the mom being brutally honest. :) Not to be a terrible enabler but I really wish you would try the orange one! I think you would be surprised at the weight and the cut is really to die for. I also would love to hear about how the orange is. AND you could probably use the 20% off, I did.

    ReplyDelete
  37. CRAZY QUESTION:

I'm 5 feet and weigh about 110 - any chance a girls XXL tee would fit me? Advice to someone who LOVE the tres bien tee shirt, please.

    ReplyDelete
  38. tammylee! Tell us about the orange!!!!What other orange is it comparable to????

    ReplyDelete
  39. that's funny about the honey glaze phenomenon...i remember last year it was big too. is it all items in honey glaze or just a particular one? amusing... they always put a shade of yellow all over their models depending on the season, ie. citron, honey glaze, I think it was saffron in 07. why do I remember such useless stuff :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. weab: Thanks! I may consider purchasing the Lucille as my true Winter "Coat" for this year...I would love to see a price drop before it sells out, though. I keep hesitating on purchasing too much, as I want to be able to spend once the September catalog arrives...I also want to see what other coats J.Crew is going to offer this year, as well.

    ReplyDelete
  41. las palmas in gold and honey glaze=one happy jcrew couple

    ReplyDelete
  42. melanie: I'm posting here since I wasn't sure if you would check the older topic, but I just called the Palo Alto store and the SA told me the skirt was ringing up at 88.00. So, you must have been lucky. There's no secret sale either. I'm perfectly sure we're talking about the same skirt too. This is so disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. ffm: good point. The ps did say we'd probably be seeing a few more neutrals in September but on some new style coats. (I had asked if they thought they would put out the Lucille in additional colors and that was his answer.) Gosh, I hope I don't kick myself later....

    ReplyDelete
  44. The orange is definitely bright - it's a very deep, vibrant color.

I bought a couple J.Crew tanks earlier this summer in the Bright Tangerine color, and I was thinking the orange Lucille would be similar, but it's not....it's more of a red orange. It also seems to change a little in different lighting - sometimes looking more orange and sometimes looking more red.

I think it will look good with jeans, black pants, brown pants, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  45. caw: My understanding was the honey glaze on everything was popular, not just one thing. Belle skirt and dream tie cardi to name a few.

    ReplyDelete
  46. vivian and caw: I have done several sets with the Las Palmas in the Gold (it's my fave, as I said). They can be seen Here , Here , Here , Here , and Here . I will also make the set that I described with the Andrea. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. tammylee: Thanks for the description! It really does sound gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  48. ffm: maybe the bow coat will come in some neutral colors and not just the orange/tangerine in the look book. :) This is IT, but I love your pink and gold outfits on polyvore! I don't know if I'd be brave enough to wear them as solid colors. Do you wear those colors together? I have a tee (from Loft) in those colors and I love it, but it has them together for me. I'm just wondering if you actually wear these colors together and maybe that will give me courage to do so as well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. FFM: you are a polyvore machine!

    ReplyDelete
  50. tammylee: Is the photo of it on the web pretty true to the reality?

    ReplyDelete
  51. weab: That was my understanding about honey glaze, too. I think anything in that color is selling in the stores.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Aly: I was so sad to hear you didn't get the skirt! That is so weird that one skirt from that line would ring up for 69.99 but none of the other skirts. I wonder what's going on. :( If I see it on sale again, I will be sure to put one on hold for you, just in case. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. weab: Let me know if you decide to get the Lucille.

    ReplyDelete
  54. weab and caw: I ordered the Jackie cardigan in honey glaze from the website and it was wait-listed for Sept. :) I don't know if that's because they haven't come out with it yet or it really is that popular!

    ReplyDelete
  55. math teacher: I'm sorry, I should have directed my last post to caw. She had asked about which items were selling. Sorry, trying to keep up and not doing a good job of it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. weab: you did direct it to caw. I had commented earlier that my sa said that honey glaze was selling well and I was just agreeing with your comment. No need to apologize. If anyone should apologize, it's me for horning in on your conversation. :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. tammylee: I have it in spicy mustard but can't help but still wonder if I should have gotten the orange.

melanie: I'll bet it really is that popular.

    ReplyDelete
  58. melanie: Thanks for sympathizing! By the way, I sent you a email.

    ReplyDelete
  59. math teacher! LOL! you're right! I didn't even realize... I'm going to go have some more coffee now! :) P.s. no apology necessary! We're all supposed to chime in any time, that's what I love about this blog! :) Ok, drinking my coffee now...

    ReplyDelete
  60. weab: I like the spicy mustard too. I probably would have gotten it in spicy mustard, but I already have a few sweaters/jackets in that color.

    ReplyDelete
  61. weab: I know what you mean about caffiene (as I sit here drinking my tea - love the smell of coffee but not the taste). :P I would love something in honey glaze, but I need to wait until I get paid again, which is unfortunately the day the after I could use the 20%. :(

    ReplyDelete
  62. OT but has anyone actually RECEIVED a hammered silk tank in bright peacock? I have tried to order it 3 times and keep getting short shipped! I'm wondering if it's just the petite sizes that they can't ship out or all of them????

    ReplyDelete
  63. ashleymarie: The email for the Human Resources Director is:
    Andra.Winokur-Newman@JCrew.Com...her name is Andra Newman.

    Millard.Drexler@JCrew.com for Mickey

    ReplyDelete
  64. tammylee: same here! I have so much in the same color family that I wonder if I should have gone the other direction...Hmmm...

math teacher: does the 20% off have an expiration date? I just used it yesterday and wonder how long they'll let me ask for it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. weab: My hammered silk tank in peacock just arrived yesterday (I placed the order Monday). It was a regular though - not a petite.

I love it and have been debating what other color I should get. It drapes really nicely and the color is awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  66. math teacher: I haven't worn the Rhubarb and Honey Glaze together yet, as the Andrea is the only item that I own in the Honey Glaze...so far. I have tried it on with my Jackie Shell from last season in the deep pink color...I just can't remember what the name was, but it's similar to the rhubarb...anyways...the combo looks absolutely decadent, especially with Gold accessories. I will for sure be wearing the two colors together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. tammylee: How is the sizing on the Hammered Silk Tank? Is it true to size or is it running large, as well?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Could you explain the 20% discount? Is it the store only discount? Can you use it multiple times? Were you able to use it online? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  69. OMG...I just made another purchase using the TOTEBAG code AND my husband's credit card. I hope that he appreciates how well dressed I am! No walking around in a robe all day for me. I am always attired in J Crew!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I got the cambridge cable cardigan in honey glaze last year, I think that's the color, I wear it with that cord shift dress, can't think of the name, short sleeves, kind of a bluish purple...I am glad honey glaze is still in! I like the belle skirt and dream tie cardi in that shade too....such good scoop!

    ReplyDelete
  71. ffm: I usually get a size 4 in silk tops. However, some of the silk tanks I've gotten recently in a size 4 fit ok, but are a bit snug under the arms (like the watercolor floral rosette tank).

But I got a 4 in the hammered silk tank and it fits perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  72. jcrewjunkie: What did your order?

    ReplyDelete
  73. caw: I got the honey glaze in the jacinda jacket. It's fab. I think I'm gonna for the eggplant in the dream tie. What do you think?
I left you a note on polyvore.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Tammylee: I'm just curious, but how much did you get the hammered silk tank for? Did you use the 20%?

    ReplyDelete
  75. hi all:)

the Fiona Herringbone Jacket is a retail only item. I was just at the 5th ave store this morning and it's still 198.00. i normally wear a size 2 jacket, but a size 0 fits nice (only if you plan on wearing a tank or short sleeve shirt).

the 5th ave store has a whole rack full of the "berries" jacket (what is that name?). alexis made a post and a picture if it last month. size 0 was too tight for me, so a size 2 fits perfectly (again with a tank or short sleeve shirt).

nothing much in the sale section and they are still running the 40% off of items that end with the .99

a sa named katie was really helpful. she called in the red phone and ordered the City Fit Prima Wool Pinstripe trousers that are price on the web for 39.99 and she told them to give me 40% off. i didn't get free shipping. oh and when i asked if they have any more Henley Slub Tee 24.99, they are sold out in xs navy.

if anyone is interested, the Italian Matelasse Jacket is priced at the b&m for 179.99 (209.99) on the web, plus the 40% discount. as of this morning, they have all sizes but 0. the jacket runs on the larger size, so order down one size.

melanie: i would call the b&m not at stanford, but at valley fair and also up in sf just to ask for a retail price check on the Fiona. if it is 158.00, and i know you paid the retail of 198.00, you have the right for a price adjustment since it happened within seven days of your purchased receipt. talk to the manager and discuss the price adjustment. make sure you write down his/her name. the more you document the conversation, along with names, the more the sa/manager can help you with the story because you are painting a detailed picture. the person you speak with will not always be there when you return to the store, so jot down and save all your paperwork.

    ReplyDelete
  76. aly: I got it for $62.40. I called in the order and the rep honored the 20% off.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Does anyone know if the secret sale on the velvet Ecole also includes 40%?? I really want it in the garnet for football season!! If it doesn't include the extra 40% I might wait a little longer since it won't be cool enough to wear until November.

    ReplyDelete
  78. i got the eggplant dream tie! along with a lot of other people here..waiting for it to arrive..patiently. Is the jacinda wool? it sure looks cute......i the alice (think that's the name) one from last year in....honey glaze! I have too many clothes I can't keep it straight!

    ReplyDelete
  79. sky: it's a printed card that the store managers keep. it's made for customers who were having problems with their online orders. each card has a unique barcode scan and it's used in store purchase. if you want something that isn't at the store, the manager or sa will talk to the red phone cs and they can apply the 20% off order. i had this done for me on wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  80. weab: They gave me the 20% off card in b&m and it says it expires 8/14. He let me use it on my purchase that day, over red phone (although he said later that he shouldn't have) and told me to keep it for future purchases by the date. :) Now, if only I got paid before 8/14! Instead, I get paid 8/15. :( Oh, well, surely they'll be future discounts.

ffm: I don't have anything in honey glaze yet, but I have last year's summerweight pants in gold (can't remember what they called it). I'll have to see what I think of my bright rhubarb with them. Of course, I might like it at home but be too much of a coward to walk out of the house! :P

    ReplyDelete
  81. webbysuzy: It's strange that different b&m's are handling the 20% card differently. It says no phone orders, which is why the manager told him (sa) that he shouldn't have told the cs on red phone to honor it. But the cs did, although we both had to hold for a long time while she figured out how to give it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Just got back. The wool Fiona is kind of "meh" - It looks a little chintzy! Last year's Bella was much better. I don't think that herringbone is as good in teh boxy Fiona.

    ReplyDelete
  83. If anyone sees the daisy eyelet tunic top, ivory, in a B&M please let me know. I want to call in an order to get the 40%.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I was at the store on Tuesday and got few things with 20% coupon but when I asked if I can use it for something they didn't have in the store (namely the Lucille jacket) they said no. I just called J.Crew and was told that I should have caled from the store with store associates confirming the discount. I think I'll call J.Crew again if it is a one time coupon and I could have applied it to the jacket. Lucille at 20% off would be such a great buy...

    ReplyDelete
  85. PS. The EXTRA30 code worked on the red phone - I got a watercolor paisley cardigan, the martine in graphite, and that red gray and black paisley cotton T sweater that came out a month ago or so. Can't remember the name. Plus I got "one time courtesy" free shipping. I should have known shipping wasn't free on final sale from the red phone!

    ReplyDelete
  86. caw: The jacinda is a merino wool. It's pretty heavy. I want the tie cardi in eggplant and navy. Can't decide

webbysuzy: I just called 5th and two different SA's said the didn't have the Italian mat. Lucia Jacket - was it def at fifth ave?

    ReplyDelete
  87. vivian and caw: Here are 2 more sets with the Las Palmas Bag in Platinum Gold: Click Here and Here . :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. math teacher: That stinks! I wonder if they would still honor it for you on the 15th. You never know...but thanks for the info, they kind of held on to it and I never got to read the details.

So this is now my FOURTH attempt at purchasing the hammered silk tank in peacock! This time I'm trying the regular 2. Hopefully they're only having issues getting the petite ones out. Thanks for the info tammylee! (If I didn't know better, I would swear my DH had a deal with jcrew to NOT sell me anything else! It's like I'm begging them to sell me the darn tank now!) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  89. ffm: Are you starting to love the Andrea? I think I remember you saying you weren't sure if you'd keep it. Just wondering if it's worth paying full price for.

  90. math teacher: i spoke with the manager (this was at the madison ave store) and opened the catalog and said that i want to buy this entire look that the model is wearing (page 44). the skirt is at the store, but the sweater and shirt is a catalog only item. she took the catalog and used the red phone meanwhile the sa was adjusting my skirt. then i walked over and the manager said that the sweater and shirt is ordered with the 20% discount and free shipping. she gave me the phone and i gave the cs my demographics and billing info. the managers at this store keep the promotion low keyed. the manager was really nice and i thanked her and the sa once more as i headed out the door.

    ReplyDelete
  91. molly: Congrats on the Martine! I love the graphite too! What a great deal with the 30% off!

    ReplyDelete
  92. weab: Good luck....I hope you get your tank!

    ReplyDelete
  93. tammylee: You can probably get the Andrea for 20% with the coupon.

    ReplyDelete
  94. aly: Do you have the Andrea or have you seen it?

    ReplyDelete
  95. jcrewbug: the Italian Matelasse Jacket was called in by the sa when i gave her the style number and asked her if she can help me with the red phone order, by verifying that 40% promotion can be applied on this jacket. she said no problem. so, i don't know if it will work if you called from home, but i know it's no problem using the red phone. the sa gives the cs her id number.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Tammylee, sorry, this so annoying, but on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most neon bright, how bright is that orange Lucille? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Tammylee: No, I don't have the Andrea, but FFm does and yes, I have seen it. They carry it at my local b&m store.

    ReplyDelete
  98. anon: I would give it a 7 or 8 for brightness. It's a nice punch of color without being "in-your-face" obnoxious.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Does the addtional 40% apply to the Fiona?

    ReplyDelete
  100. I called J.Crew and explained my situation The helpful CS rep let me purchase Lucille jacket with the discount! She also gave me free shipping. Thanks J.Crew! I am content and don't mind the web issues anymore :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Tammylee-

    Thank You!

    ReplyDelete
  102. sky: Congrats on the Lucille! What color did you choose?

    ReplyDelete
  103. tammylee: I really AM starting to love the Andrea jacket...the more times I try it on and experiment pairing it with different pieces in my wardrobe, the more I LOVE it! It looks gorgeous with the Jackie Shell in the Berry color that I have...I cannot believe how much I love that color combo...I'm thinking about exchanging my Navy Dream Tie for the Honey Glaze and purchasing one of the Rhubarb tanks to go under it...I could wear it now with white pants and Gold accessories, and it would look beautiful. I have the XS Honey Glaze on hold until I go to the b&m tomorrow...I can't believe how much I actually do like the Honey Glaze on me, too...I really didn't think I would.

    ReplyDelete
  104. webbysuzy: It's so strange that no one seems to know their policy (I know, we've discussed this a LOT). I was happy to get my skirt with the 20% even though it took awhile over the red phone. I know that if I go back in, that they won't let me use it again over the red phone. Which means, that if what I want goes on sale, I won't be able to use the 20% if it's not in my b&m. Oh, well, I am grateful that I was able to use it on what I got and that J Crew was even willing to give us a discount. And, it's probably better for my finances if I don't buy anything else until it actually gets marked down. It's not like I'll be wearing fall items anytime soon. Fall doesn't really hit here until November.

    Sorry for the long post.

    ReplyDelete
  105. The manager at my store said the 20% off card is for one time use...bummer for me, as I am going back in again tomorrow...maybe they will allow it...I hope...fingers crossed! :)

sky: Congrats on the Lucille and the great deal! What color?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Weab: Thanks! I chose spicy mustard. I think it will look fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  107. ffm: the card says nothing about only be able to use it once, so maybe that's info that they told the managers or maybe that's how they're reading it. Below the apology, it says, "Please accept our apologies and enjoy 20% off your next purchase with us. Offer valid in J.Crew retail stores only. Not valid at jcrew.com, over the phone or in J.Crew factory stores. Offer expires 8/14/2008. Not valid on previous purchases, or on the purchase of gift cards or in combination with any other promotion."

Since it says "next purchase," I suppose that does imply one. Maybe if a different sa is working, you can get 20% again.

    ReplyDelete
  108. math teacher: Thanks! I will definitely see if they will allow it tomorrow...I would love to order the Dream Tie in Eggplant over the red phone AND get the discount (since they don't have my size in the store).

    ReplyDelete
  109. ffm: Good luck and let us know hot it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  110. FYI, all-- I am visiting family in Michigan and just returned from the Twelve Oaks store-- they have the silky jersey pleated top in the sale section for $34.99 and the luxe gathered tee for $39.99 PLUS the 40% off.

In the jersey pleated top, they had lots of poppy and a yellow color (it looks too light to be honey glaze, but I don't see any other yellows in this online), some weathered stone and very few in black.

In the gathered tee, they had lots of honey glaze, light pewter, sea salt and peacock.

I bought one of each for under $50 :)

  113. I don't like any of the jackets...went to the store and wasn't impressed with colors, styles or fit....I have two spring/summer Fiona's, two Porta jackets, Waverly, I could go on and on...as well as two of last years Bella's....I don't like the Andrea with the pockets up near the bustline...I think it looks silly and will be dated quickly...just my two cents...not impressed this fall so far...hoping it gets better in Sept. or Oct!:0

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'm looking at The Book from Neiman Marcus and they have a Jacket by St. John in the same color and same collar as the Lucille! (The St. John one is more of a jacket than outerwear)AND they have a purple Valentino cashmere sweater jacket also with the SAME collar as the Lucille! Well done J crew!

    ReplyDelete
  115. tammylee: I have the Andrea in Honey Glaze, size 0. In the picture online and in the catalog it shows the sleeves as being bracelet length. On me, the sleeves are right to the top of my wrist so I look as if I am wearing a jacket with sleeves that are too short. I am going to exchange it for the 2P so that the arms with be the appropriate length. All that being said, the Honey Glaze is simply stunning. I got the weathered stone silky tank to go under it and the two look fab together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. OK, so the Fiona is retail only? Do I need to call or email someone in order to get it? Also, what does it look like? Surely there is a pic of it somewhere...aaahhhh.

    ReplyDelete
  117. BTW the previous post was by me, jcrewjunkie, I just forgot to put my name. :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. jcrewjunkie: Thanks for the details about the Andrea. I like the idea of the silky tank under it too.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Fit question...Jackie cardigan and shell and the Cambridge cable cardigans. Do they fit true to size or do most people order up?

    ReplyDelete
  120. jcrewjunkie: there were some of the new fionas on ebay. I don't know if they're still there, but it's worth taking a look.

    ReplyDelete
  121. The Fiona's on Ebay are priced at 325.00ish. I can't imagine who the seller is marketing to.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Sorry for being off topic, I had a quick 'color' question. Just wondering if anyone has purchased anything in the 'Bright Pacific' color? It looks quite pretty. Does it come off as kind of a 'baby' blue? That's what my sister said when she saw it on the screen. Is it more of a spring/summer shade? Would it look all right in fall weather? I'm also worried the Bright Pacific might be hard to match...

    Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  123. jcrewjunkie and math teacher: I wouldn't buy the Wool Fiona off of Ebay, just in case you want to return it...I personally don't like it all, and wouldn't even pay the sale price it is offered at right now. I am going to my store tomorrow and will take a second look, just to be sure it wasn't a bad first impression I got of it, and I will let you know what I think after the second time of trying it. :) I'm sure others will feel differently and probably love it, but I don't think the quality is as high as on the Andrea.

    ReplyDelete
  124. saf: What garment are you condsidering in the Bright Pacific?

    ReplyDelete
  125. That should have been "considering". Sorry...

    ReplyDelete
  126. I've seen the Fiona IRL, and the quality is very H&M. I agree w/ FFM.

    ReplyDelete
  127. cori, I've only tried the Jackie cardigan, I'm pretty much bang on always an xs or size 2 in jcrew sweaters and tops, and the xs size fit me perfectly. I did try a small and it fit ok but was kinda rumpled, so I think the cardigan does run true to size. But it could be different for everyone depending on your body shape/proportions. I have a small bust, slightly broad shoulders and a long torso. Hope this helps a little!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Does anyone know if there are any other J Crew items in the Orange Sherbert color? I can see why people are hesitant about the quality of the wool Fiona, but I can't get over the color. It's a cute jacket, but it doesn't seem very warm and thus does not warrant $158 or $198. There is something about the color though that is vibrant but not overstated and is pleasing to the eye. It might just be me of course.

    ReplyDelete
  129. ffm, I was thinking about the cashmere shrunken shawl cardigan :) I think for that item the website actually got the icons and color names mixed up (pic shows bright ocean, but swatch shows the correct color I think). I have the sweater in geranium and really love it, just not sure if that shade of blue would work for me, or for fall season... But I really do like the style and was thinking some blue in my wardrobe other than navy might be nice :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. saf: Both of the blues are pretty, but you are considering the darker one, right? I have never seen the Bright Ocean or Bright Pacific in person, but I do have a Jackie Shell in regular Ocean, and it is a beautiful color. The darker blue in this sweater looks similar to the Brilliant Blue of the Candace Jacket. I think the sweater you are considering would actually be really pretty carried into Fall with Khaki Chinos, Jeans, or Charcoal Gray Pants...you might even be able to do a rich chocolate brown. I think it's really pretty. :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm not very impressed with the quality of the fiona herringbone. It feels itchy and rough when you touch it. I'll wait till it is on sale for under $100. And if they run out of it, oh well, I won't cry over it.

    ReplyDelete
  132. aly: I think we will be seeing alot more of that color...J.Crew seems to love the Oranges and Honey Glaze. :)

    ReplyDelete
  133. Anyone here agrees with me that the canvas Fiona flatters the design better than the wool Fiona does?

    ReplyDelete
  134. ffm, thanks so much for your thoughtful reply! Sorry, I was getting myself confused, I was actually thinking about the lighter shade Bright Pacific (I meant the picture shows Bright Ocean when you choose Bright Pacific. The two-button cashmere cardigan also comes in Bright Pacific). I love your ideas, especially about pairing it with grey or chocolate brown! Thank you!

  135. hello fellow Aficionadas

as promised here's a report on my big order via the red phone. I got the student discount w/free shipping no problem, the CSR simply asked for my student id and school name, which is great because she can go ahead and verify my status with school as opposed to me having to work because my school doesn't automatically give out student email addresses.

The database went down while we were talking and the CSR was very professional/patient in dealing with it. The red phone connection was also very faint - i had trouble understanding her and she had trouble hearing me - she said this was not an uncommon problem with red phones throughout stores - anyone else experienced this?

    ReplyDelete
  136. SAF: I have the shawl collared cardigan in the bright pacific and it is a beautiful shade of blue. The perfect pick me up for a dreary winters day!

    ReplyDelete
  137. ITA that the Fiona works much better in canvas/chino than in wool herringbone. I also agree that there is something H&Mish about the jacket in wool. There's something kind of afterthoughtish about it too. LIke they got cold feet about the ecole being "it" for the season and decided to whip up something bella-ish. Boy, this reads like I read Lucky alot-ish.

I ordered on the red phone today and couldn't hear at all, but I thought it was because of the loud music in the store, LOL

    ReplyDelete
  138. saf: I guess we were both confused! ;) I like the lighter color you are talking about, and think it is even more appropriate to carry into Fall. It would look really pretty with Navy Blue, Charcoal Gray, Khaki Chinos, Chocolate Brown, and Dark Denim...you have alot of possiblities. :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. saf: Here is a Polyvore set with the lighter shade of blue...I guess it's called Bright Pacific? Click Here.

    ReplyDelete
  140. ffm, you are too kind! oh my goodness, I *love* the whole ensemble! I don't own the Watson pant but have the city fit madison in charcoal, the favorite fit tank in grey mist, and silver earrings, I'm definitely going to try to match the look you put together :) You're right, it looks perfect for fall. I seriously would never have come up with that on my own, many thanks ffm!

hdayton, thanks for letting me know! I decided to plow ahead and give it a shot :)

I just got off the phone with cs, I talked to Audrey who was super nice. She ordered the sweater for me and allowed me to use my student discount and the free shipping 'shop' code together! She had no problem with it, just said she had to make sure the code was working. I was really pleased. (I also ordered the refined silk cashmere wrap in bright berry). Fingers crossed now that the parcel actually arrives in good time :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. ffm: I just received the rosette tank in aged cognac. While I love the print, I'm not so sure about the fit. On me the top of it fits great but the bottom is so fitted it almost like there's a band at the hips. I'm a pear but not very much so. If I size up, I'll be falling out of it. I don't know, maybe it just wasn't meant to be for me ;) How does it fit you?

on another note, I also received the Paintbrush Floral Belle Skirt and LOVE it! just so versatile. Great fit. Stiff material but not too much so. On my 5'2 frame, it hit right at mid knee. I'm wearing this baby to church this weekend!:)

    ReplyDelete
  142. weab: I'm sorry to hear about the Watercolor Floral Rosette tank! I purchased the 0 and it fits great...it could be about 1/2 inch tighter around the top, but it fits fine through the hips. I actually prefer it tucked in, too. Here is how I intend to wear it before Fall: Click Here . :) If you aren't 100% in love with it, then you shouldn't keep it...you could always exchange for the Denim Pencil Skirt or another Belle Skirt...both of them are super cute, too! :) Congrats on the Paintbrush Floral Belle Skirt! I'm glad at least one of your items are a keeper! :) What are you wearing with it?

    ReplyDelete
  143. saf: You're welcome, and congrats on the great deal! Btw...a turtleneck would be great in place of the tank, too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. I haven't seen the wool Fionas before. :(

I went to the J.Crew factory store at Katy Mills in Houston, TX and they had some deals going on. All the button-up shirts were 30% off, but that still made them about $40 a piece, which is waaay too much for the quality. I've gone to American Eagle and Express and gotten better dress shirts for about $20 a pop. There were a bunch of velvet and wool Bellas though, as someone had mentioned before in an earlier post. The velvet ones come in a really lovely wine purple color, but still cost too much (about $87?) for such a thin jacket. If they go on sale, I'd definitely get one, though!

I got my fall rewards card in the mail and used it to buy an amazing sweater vest. It ended up only costing me $12! Also, furthering my hope that J.Crew's web fiasco is coming to an end, I received my web order for a bathing suit set without a hitch-- I was charged properly with the 30% off coupon and received a working tracking number!

    ReplyDelete
  145. I think I'm going to have to return the serengeti tank and watercolor tank. I tried them tucked in and the zipper sticks way out on the side. Untucked, they look too unstructured on my ample bod. Oh well, can't win them all.

I am loving my gold argyle sweater though.

    ReplyDelete
  146. At my B&M, the 20% off was not a card but a barcode that they scanned at the register. They gave me 40% off sale merchandise plus 20 on both sale and non-sale items. The sale selection was very small though but I was happy with the discounts.

Q: How come it seems like the stores have different policies and sale items? I can see why the store and web are different but shouldn't all b&ms be the same? None of the fall items are on sale (like the hammered tops mentioned previously).

    ReplyDelete
  147. ffm: thanks for the feedback. I love your polyvore outfit. I am really bummed! Now I'm a little worried because it seems the cut of the rosette tank is very similar to that of the hammered silk tank...we'll see...maybe that one will never show up anyway. ;)

I was planning on wearing the skirt with the beaded floral tee in black. It's still SOOO hot right now and my church is pretty casual. So I'm dressing it down a bit this time.

Here's my polyvore of the outift : http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?sid=PuDfdaRd3RGt4rBnaxxLRQ

I actually plan to start wearing my Dream Tie Cardi now with a tank and Cropped Pants...I don't think it's that warm of a sweater, and I wear cardigans all the time already. You would probably not have a problem wearing yours in Church, since you are in the A/C (if you don't want to wait). :)

    ReplyDelete
  152. ffm: thanks for all the feedback. I think I will take your advice on the rosette tank and take it back. :(

  159. I don't like many/most of the jacket colors JCrew is offering. Only 2 colors in most styles and the orange and gold colors are horrible in my opinion! I really like orange but not in the styles and shades JCrew is serving up this fall. I bought one item at JCrew last week. Tried on a ton but didn't like....my hubby was shocked. I went into Banana and JJill and bought 5 things easily in each store and could have bought more....Glad I bought a TON last fall/winter at JCrew:)

    ReplyDelete
  160. No problem, Weab! Have a good night...I am off to get some sleep. :)

  161. ffm, good night and sweet j crew dreams. :)

    ReplyDelete
  162. OT I just received the Carnaby Carryall handbag. I really like the design and size. I hope they bring it back in dark colors.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I agree that the wool fiona is itchy--even through the lining! They should have used thicker lining on the jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Molly- I had the same problem with the zipper on the water color rosette tank. I also ended up not getting it because it seemed to billow out in the middle when worn out, and then puffy on the zipper side when tucked in.

I tried the Belle skirt in a zero and it was too big, and normally it would be ok if the material were a bit more drapey. But the cotton taffeta is a nice weight.

I highly recommend the Cambridge cables. Super soft staples for the cooler months, not too thick, not too thin. Does anyone know if they're doing a secret sale on their cashmere this year? I'm lusting after the cashmere bateau...

Someone was asking about XXL in girls size, and I would ask CS to get you measurements. The kids lengths depends on the style. I have bought XXL before too, but I am 104, and just a bit taller.

BTW, the SA said that there's some big sale happening on Sept 8 for all educators and students- a back to school event with more merchandise expected in for that sale. Anyone else hear the same thing?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Amethyst - I don't know about a secret sale on cashmere. Do they have those? Guess the trick is to pick up one of everything in the store you might want to purchase and see if the SA will let you in on any secrets. *lol*

Oooh, yes, I tried on the Cambridge cables. It's about $5 off right now from $74 to $69.50 which is a whopping 6% off. *lol* Guess they are making room for all the goodies that are coming soon.

    ReplyDelete
  166. math teacher: Thanks for the headsup on the fionas listed on Ebay. I love the color, but if they are itchy AT ALL I can't wear them because it would drive me nuts! :)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Ok -- so I pulled out my wool Fiona again. I agree, it's not a thick coat, but that doesn't put it in the H&M category in my book. The quality (I.e. stitching in particular) is still better than stores with a lower pricepoint average. It's made in China and I always wonder if some of the factories there work on clothing from all stores. Kind of a funny thought.

My mom just looked at it and agrees with some of you here that it's not worth $158. Comments were made some thread ago about the canvas Fiona and how timeless the cut is. I thought about that when I tried this one on and that largely influenced my purchase. That and it's a beautiful, unique color. This is my 1st J Crew jacket so I don't have anything to compare it to. Guess it's supposed to be a lightweight, lined jacket vs a coat.

    ReplyDelete
  168. The mystery color is called Sweet Potato.

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  169. Sooo, my report on my trip to my B and M: The fiona was on secret sale, it appears the prices tag of the orange one is $230 (eek!) and the others $198. The PS told me they were on promo for $158, all colors. I liked the sweet potato, think that is what it's called. I have to try it on at home and pair it with things to decide if I am 100% but I am a sucker for a ruffle, and a deal so I decided to try it. Go to ring it up-asked about the coupon. Got a snide look and the associate, who is a mgr, says, "well did you HAVE website issues?" I was like, what??? So I said yes..(my issues haven't been as bad as others but I got short shipped some pants and waited at least 3 hours one week, but still!) It was if she didn't want to give me the deal-thanks to all you I was strong and persistant! It gets better, the jacket was ringing up at $198 so I said, the Ps told me it was on promo, she's like, well it's ringing up as this, but you'll still get the 20%...i was like, no, the Ps told me differently, the PS then came over and gave the girl a dirty look and told her to fix it. That was good, but still....so we'll see. The fiona is much lighter than I expected and I had to downsize to a 4. Still, as I said I love orange hues and ruffles....

    ReplyDelete
  170. ps-i also got one of the luxe gathered tees in peacock...i needed some peacock!
also, new items week of 8/19/08, so they say....

    ReplyDelete
  171. amethyst: I haven't heard about an educator's sale, but if there is one, I will be there. However, isn't the 8th a Monday? And, won't educators be at work? I would think a Saturday or Sunday sale would make more sense for teachers. :)

    ReplyDelete
  172. caw: so the orange wool fiona is $230...good, i'm not crazy ;) that's the color i tried on so that's why i remember that price :)

also, the lucille jacket is tagged at $275 at the SF store...different from the $285 online.

    ReplyDelete
  173. ccbum and all: That's so crazy! I've never heard of a different color of an item having a different price. Is that common?

    ReplyDelete
  174. weab: I wanted to let you know that I ended up returning the Rosette Tank and purchasing one of the NEW ELIZABETH HALTERS in Bright Rhubarb! It is SO beautiful! They have redone the ruffles on it and it is just SO pretty! I also purchased the Jackie Cardigan in Honey Glaze to wear with it and my 5 Pocket Trouser Jeans...so cute! :)

    ReplyDelete
  175. jcrewjunkie and math teacher: I tried the wool Fiona again, and I still don't like it...just my opinion...I would rather spend the money on something elsel. :)

    ReplyDelete
  176. ffm: You know, when I first saw the canvas and the patchwork fiona, I loved them immediately! Without even trying it on, I knew I wanted one of them. But, this one did nothing for me. I should have tried it on, but I didn't even like it on the hanger. So, I don't even think if it gets marked way down that I'll be purchasing it. There are just too many other items that I LOVE and MUST have! :)

    ReplyDelete
  177. math teacher: I completely agree...I think the Canvas, Patchwork, and Italian Jacquard Fionas are absolutely exquisite...the wool Fiona just isn't...I won't be getting it on sale, either.

    ReplyDelete
  178. caw - I can't believe they gave you a hard time. What a pill. I'm glad you stood your ground. I think anytime you are giving your credit card number online or over the phone and run into a glitch -- that's a problem. Given identity theft and other issues we've heard of about compromised data, I wouldn't even place the website issues on a spectrum. You had a problem and *you* shouldn't be defending yourself by way of the depth of it. I'm on your side and am also a sucker for ruffles. ;-) I have so many items with a ruffle of some sort and I've just decided to accept. The orange is subtle and unique, imo. That said, I'm also on the fence about keeping mine. We'll see.

  179. I bought wool Fiona organge at $158 + 20% off for web trouble. But I find the wool which is used for J.Crew jackets (wool Fiona and Andrea Jacket etc) is not high quality. It is itching, not soft and very hard for me. I can not expect a lot at this price.

  181. Something about the fiona also is that they look better if they have 3/4 length sleeves. I tried the wool fiona, and it just doesn't look as good as the canvas fiona from the previous seasons. Add this to the poor wool quality of this fiona...I don't think I'll be purchasing this even at the sale price.
