Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time again! :) "Thanks!" goes to Julie (in the "Mickey Drexler: Part Of The New Establishment" post), Silver_Lining (in the "Product Review: The Harlow Blouse" post), and Jeff T., who let us know that J.Crew is offering 20% off on orders of $175+ with promo code PRIVATESALE.

"Thanks!" to Marietta (in this post) who let us know that this promotion is also good for in-store purchases. Click here to print out the email (with a bar code) to shop at the stores. This offer expires 9/12/08.

  1. Seems like there is new stuff on the site! I'm having some problems w/ my most recent order (20% off sale) so I'm going to wait a bit before I order anything else!

  2. Thanks Pink1 for the heads up! I just went over there (after your comment) and saw there were a bunch of new things in the sale section. {yey!} :) But like you, I am going to wait a bit longer before ordering anything. :)

  3. Alexis...It is tempting though..ha ha!

On another note. Have you seen the Soft jersey Adelaide dress? My store didn't get it but the manager showed it to me (a return). Trying to decide whether to order. Thanks:)

  4. Thanks for the news, Alexis! I have a gift card and some items I've been waiting to buy - now is the time! :-)

  6. I had to buy the Tuesday Trench today. It was marked down to $199 and they took the 20% off too. Great buy!

I also purchased the new silk belle skirt. I am afraid it will sell out.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Pink1: I bought the Adelaide dress and then returned it. It was about 3 inches shorter than shown on the model. I really liked how it looked and fit, but it was too short for me to wear comfortably.

    ReplyDelete
  8. kitsmommy: Yay! I saw the trench had gone on sale this morning and you popped into my mind instantly. I'm so excited for you! I know you'll love it! btw, my silk belle is supposed to arrive today. I can't wait to see how it is IRL. :)

ffm: I'm with you about waiting. I think they have roll-out this Friday, so the wait should be easier. ;)

  9. I am actually trying to order from the fs but I keep getting an error message saying they cant process my order at this time!!!!!

  10. there is new stuff on sale, plus some of the things that have been hanging on a while are discounted even more.

  11. I was just cruising along LOOKING at the sale site when BAM! error messages and nothing is coming up! I did look at all the sweaters before this happened...I noticed the price says one thing but when you click on it it is still higher...merino ruffle cardigan...now says $29.99 but when you click it goes back to $49.99. It is definitely best to wait. I had sooo many many problems with July orders I don't want to go back there.

  12. I'm getting the same order message! It's making me rethink my order, which I'm only making since the kelsey tank dress finally went on sale, and I love it!

  13. Hi Weab! I am so happy I got the Trench.

I ordered the Belle in a size 4, but I may need to size down, so I wanted to give myself plenty of time to exchange it while they are still in stock.

I also bought the bright rhubarb and bright blue cable sweaters I keep playing around with on Polyvore. I bought a size small in those after getting measurements from the CS. I hope they fit. Every sweater they describe as "shrunken" always looks odd on me in an XS.

I really do not like this "final sale" on new markdowns, but at least I know the Tuesday will fit!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm also having error messages! Ugh! Maybe this is my sign that I shouldn't be ordering anything else.

  15. Is this 20% off coupon a rarity? I'm thinking about ordering jcrew bridesmaids dresses and I'm wondering if I should make my girls decide now or if it'll pop up again in the next month or two.

    Thanks!

  16. Hi Kater, have been meaning to post that when I went to FS late last week, the bellas weren't marked down :-(

I did see some things I'd like, so I hope the FS has a sale soon - and not a @#$% final sale... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I know la belle helene - I'm hoping for a sale soon too, because those outlet prices are RIDICULOUS! Especially on the bella. Which is why I caved and ordered the camel from the lady from singapore on ebay...:) It's pretty bad when you can get an "original" one on ebay for cheaper than the outlet version!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Alas, the timing is bad for me! I saw my bill from last month and am cooling it for a few weeks. I told myself I'd wait until the October private sale code came out (last year it was in Oct IIRC) before buying again . . . . I will just have to be strong. I haven't even picked up my previous purchases from the tailor yet.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kater, cool, have you gotten it yet? I wish I had that sellers access to last year's pieces, lol.

I did look closely at the FS herringbone bella, and they are 100% wool, and fully lined, and with the same leather-covered buttons as the retail version, so I don't think it lacked in quality. It's just hard to accept that price when one is shopping at a FS, but maybe J.Crew is also improving the quality and price points at the outlets.

I also took a look at the puffer vests, and they were 100% nylon just like last fall's version, and fully lined, again.

Did you see any library skirts? Mine didn't have those. I was sort of intrigued by last year's version, but never saw one to try on.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hexicon, I'm guessing there'll be another private sale next month. From what I can tell, this fall merchandise isn't exactly flying off the shelves, and someone else mentioned the October clothes may be rolling out this weekend.

At the stores I've been at, there were plenty of ecoles and fionas, even with the promotions.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Pink1: I haven't seen that dress- but it sounds wonderful!!! :)

Fashionista Social Worker (aka JCrewMama): I love your new screen name!!! :)

Kitsmommy: Congrats on your trench!!! :)

KJDoherty: These 20% off coupons are not as common as free shipping over a certain amount, or a percent off final sale coupon code. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. la belle: I agree about the quality of the bella at the outlet! The only tiny difference I noticed was in the lining - it lacked the piping the ones from last year had. and that is it! I would have absolutely bought one if it weren't for the price!

And I didn't see any library print at the outlet I'm close to. it's weird that neither of us has run across it, because I know others have.

What did you think of the version of the dani?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just a quick question, does anyone know how the lana blouse fits? The size 0 of a lot of jcrew blouses are too billowy for me. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Kater, you're right - after I got home and looked at one of my own bellas, that piped-lining was the only difference I noticed. The FS bella had the flap pockets, and the exact same ruffle collar. I'm going to pick one up if they go on a good enough sale at some point. A girl can't have too many bellas, as far as I'm concerned :-)

The Dani looked good to me, too. I never saw the original, so I wasn't able to compare it, but the wool felt nice, and the color seemed like the same sunny hue as in the super-fantastic Paris catalogue.

I also noticed some of the felted wool skirts from last year. None of the peacock emmas, though, unfortunately (the print peacock, not the single color). I loved that motif from last fall, and was hoping they'd bring it back in a dress.

  25. Since last Friday the website has experienced even more ordering problems, so proceed at your own risk. They messed up another one of my orders that I ordered on-line on Sunday (stupid me). It has not been filled yet, and the CD cannot get the order to move through the process. Geesh!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am surprised that the 20% off coupon is now...I almost wish it was OCT. instead like last year...Just bought the Simone Snow leopard Peacoat and the Astrid berry when the 15% Fall code was on...now I need to cool it for a bit...I doubt? there will be an Oct. Private Sale now...:(

    ReplyDelete
  27. To Bodoni88:
I had to downsize for Lana. I am normally 4 and I went down to 2. They are loose, but not as loose as ,say,Joelle blouse,Elizabeth halter or silk-jersey pleated tops. Chances are you are going to be ok with size 0.
It's a really cute top, I own it in both pewter adn hot pink.

  29. Hi, I am new here. May I ask a question re:double-serge Tuesday trench coat? Would my usual JCrew coat size fit?
    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. anon 11:26 - I would size down on the double serge Tuesday - there is a lot of material to that coat and in my normal size, I felt like it was way too big through the bust and under the arms. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Someone mentioned that we should post when we actually receive items from the final sale. I received three boxes from J Crew yesterday and will be getting another package today. Four boxes for only two orders. Guess what? They are duplicates. My credit card has been charged four separate times. When I called to get the situation sorted, I had a very helpful CS who said she would note in all of the orders that I am able to return anything even though they are marked final sale. I did receive the tangier print merino cardigan from 2007 holiday and I never thought I would see it. I'm very happy about that. Supposedly the links print merino cardy is in today's shipment, but I'll believe it when I see it. Just fed up with all of the screw ups and extra charges on my credit card. Will go to the local B&M to do returns this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Need help!!! W/ the 20% off I'm going to order a classic peacoat. Do you think the light pumpkin is too trendy??? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  36. pink1: I think what matters most is if you like it or not. If you love the color, buy it. Don't worry about what others think. You know not everyone's going to agree with you anyway. So, go ahead, enjoy yourself & buy it.

  38. ANON 11:45
That was me--I am like you--SO anxious to see what old items I receive if any. My order has been on there since 9/3 and old items such as katie and piper seaglass have not canceled off yet (even though other items on the order have fallen off). I did end up with 2 orders with the same items and then some other items but I actually told the girl-LEAVE IT! So glad I did because I didn't want to chance losing the awesome sale items that probably would have not come if canceled one order and kept the other. I will say==I recv'd a box that did not EVER show released or tracking number today. They are sending this stuff out SO randomly. So many items have been cancelled it isn't funny and I have gotten orders out of order by date etc. Thank GOD I told the girl to mark things returnable and I have a B&M nearby-SUCH a mess! But I STILL ORDER:)

  40. CAN ANYONE HELP ME COPY A PIC TO USE ON EBAY?

I thought I just could rt click the pic and then paste but it isn't allowing paste. Maybe I cannot copy a J Crew photo??

Can you make copied from Polyvore--any techy people out there??? Thank you:)

    ReplyDelete
  41. TO Anonymous @ 1:15 PM: You could just use the 'Print Screen' key on your keyboard. Once you press it, open something like 'Paint' & paste it on that program using keys 'ctrl' & 'v'. There you go.

    ReplyDelete
  42. anon 11:26: I agree with lindsey. I had to size way down for this one. I'm normally a 4p but can get away with a regular 2 half the time. The regular 0 fit me...and I'm definitely *not* a 0! But the darts at the chest fell in the wrong place as did the tie at the waist. I ended up with a 2P.

The timing of this coupon is so frustrating to me! I love how it expires the day the new arrivals are supposed to roll-out. Gaw!

    ReplyDelete
  43. For those of you still having problems with orders being cancelled I encourage you to send an email to CS. I ordered a T-shirt on fs 3 weeks ago and it got cancelled. Then, lo and behold, it shows up on the website again, so I reorder it. What happens? It got cancelled AGAIN!!! In my frustration I sent an email to CS and they ended up crediting my shipping charges ($17) and offered me free shipping AND 20% off my next order. I'm thinking about the suede long glenbrae boots in grey. Has anyone bought these? This will be my first pair of JC boots. Yeah!!!

P.S. Alexis....I love this blog. I have been a JC customer since college (too long ago to count the years!!) and this blog is awesome. Keep up the good work!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Leslie: Lucky you -- wish I was given a discount and free shipping on my next order. I was on the phone with customer service for over 30 minutes EACH TIME I had to call to get my orders straightened out. They took the shipping off of the orders but no one has offered me a thing for all of the time lost and the aggravation of having to drag all of these duplicates back to the store. Hope I don't have a hard time returning everything.

    ReplyDelete
  45. pink1-I don't think pumpkin is trendy, it's a recurring fall color. I'd think about whether you personally will tire of it or if will be refreshing change from the classic: navy/black/white/red

It's a shame that the coupon expires on a Friday. Why not run it through the weekend, when people can get out a shop!?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Has anyone tried the Felicia coat - what do you think compared to the Tuesday Trench, especially now that the TT has a discount? Thanks! I am torn...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Are the duplicates showing up because when an order is cancelled you are re-ordering again?

I have a promotional item Cashmere V neck Sweater that is still in the Open stage and it is not moving, CS wants me to re-order, but I am afraid of duplicate shipments, charges etc.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi sorry if this has been already asked but if I use the 20% coupon in the store..would they allow me to use 15% student Discount also? or just one? I want to get the felicia coat

    ReplyDelete
  49. casual-crew: I placed two orders (on two different days) from the red phone in the store at the end of August. Was told all items were available. Waited and waited -- nothing was ever cancelled but orders didn't move along like normal. Finally I called and was told the orders were placed under the "old system". Have no idea how this was possible. Then was told only 2 of the 5 items I ordered were now available. CS said they would place a new order. This happened for both of my orders. Now charges are appearing all over my credit card and I received duplicate orders yesterday. I would be wary of reordering right now unless you want duplicate sweaters and duplicate credit card charges. I want to order some of the new sale items but am afraid my credit card will explode!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I just ordered the triple-scrolled bracelet (I've been wanting this since the original double-scrolled came out last year!) and the Serge Pencil Skirt in ochre.
Still on my list: Trixie heels in warm ivory and a heather grey cashmere Vee.

    ReplyDelete
  51. CashmereLibrarian- you'll have to do a review of the serge skirt, i am especially interested in the ochre color! it looks very mild online but i really want to know if it is really bright IRL. thanks and good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I recv'd the Martine cashmere cardigan in heather grey/lime and hot pink/org and it is SO DAMN cute I was gonna return one but UGH--I don't know if I can now! Looks SO AWESOME with white fitted collared shirt and liza print peep toe heels and vintage ripped jeans (stole the look from the princess herself-Jenna:) That's why I guess I keep shopping here as it is kinda fun seeing what will show up from the sale...and being surprised with a GREAT item and even BETTER price:)
By the way--is that private 20% off good on sale items? B&M?

    ReplyDelete
  53. anon 2:20 - Thank you, I will not re-order, and if I lose the item so be it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was reading the lastest comments about order problems while on hold with CS and I hung up....I can't deal with this anymore....it is not worth my time and energy. There will always be new and cute things at JCrew. This is a time to sit and wait out the storm...at least when ordering sale items...new stuff...that I might try.

    ReplyDelete
  55. LATEST not lastest! :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anon at 1:46pm....

You should really raise h*ll with CS...you deserve an extra 20% for all your troubles. I (like probably everyone on the blog!!) spend quite a bit with JC every year. I do have their credit card and told the CS agent to look at my statement to prove that I was a good customer. I'm sorry this wasn't offered to you...this "system" they put in place is such a pain, but I don't have a b&m store near me. In fact, there is only ONE in my whole state!! (in Santa Fe). If it were closer, I'd have to work there to offset my spending!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Here's an example of something that is STILL on the website but I ordered on 2-3 occasions as it kept showing back up in a sz 4. Then called and was told by CS it is LONG gone. The Metallic Casa Rossa Jacket sz 4.

I also ordered the San Telmo in Black size 2 and 4 with option to return size that didn't fit. Well-they gave me wrong price so I called right back (got a different CS girl) that went to fix it and then all the sudden I had 2 order numbers for both sizes plus two of everything else I had ordered the first time. I left it alone as I knew if I canceled I would get nothing.
I have since had the size 2 and 4 in cheaper sale price fall off the order. Since then the size 2 full price fell off--now I have a size 4 there at full price and that whole order has just SAT there with things falling off periodically. I cannot get any confirmation of anything either.

I think it's a HUGE gamble for sale items but if oyu are ordering full price or newly saled item you should be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  58. pink1, i ordered the adelaide dress as well and was disappointed in the length. i was hoping the dress would stretch out a bit since the ruffles are a bit heavier, but i'm giving up and returning it as well. too bad, it looks beautiful but too short for me.

I ordered the soft jersey Sara dress and hope that one's not too short either.

Also, online both dresses are marked as online only styles, so that's probably why you won't see it unless its a return.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I did mean to add that it is SO WRONG for J Crew to have ANY SALE TRAFFIC RIGHT NOW!! THat is my BIGGEST BEEF with this new sale email. The SH*T just ain't there and it is unfair practices. I guarantee someone has already called BBB.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just went to my b&m and new things were added to their final sale section (which was also still 20% off) including the cord skirts, yellow watson pants, dream tie front sweaters, a few colors of the cords (shades of green), and many tee-shirts. I didn't spend $175 so I'm not sure if the private sale stacks with the final sale extra 20%. Just thought I'd let you know :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. It is a huge gamble right now to order online from JC period. The site cannot handle the traffic, CS is terrible, there are some good ones but they are getting harder to reach.

I had a manager give me his name and phone number to call him if there were any future problems, well I did and it was useless, they are so overwhelmed with problems they give you the standard canned response, no checking with other depts etc. to see what is really going on.

I wonder how many CS people quit their jobs over this mess. I don't love the product all that much to go through this crap every time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yep, it appears my sabbatical from buying will continue... sorry you aficionadas (and aficionados?) are still having trouble purchasing sale items. What a bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thanks for the help on the dress! I'm going to wait on it. I'm not much of a short dress girl.

I did order the peacoat in the pumpkin. I'm taking back a sweater so I don't feel too guilty:)

I'm having CS woes too. Actually this is one of the few times I have had a problem. I placed an order for about 8 things (all sale) this past weekend during the promotion. I received 1 yesterday. When I called I got hung up on twice and finally told to wait it out until Monday. Hmmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am so bummed. I absolutely LOVE my Sea Glass Piper (size 0) so I went and ordered the Ivory and Green both in the same size. Unfortunately, they are so tight under my arms that I can barely move. WHY the discrepancy in the sizing? I am returning them even if they are FS with a nasty note about being consistent. Grrrr.

    ReplyDelete
  65. the konosur: I've tried the felicia and have the wool Tuesday Trench.

The length of the felicia is great, especially if you're petite like me (5'2). The front is very streamlined and flattering. However, the reason I left it behind was the pleats/gathering in the back. While it's a nice detail, I was afraid it added a little bulk in an area I don't need to be emphasizing. ;) (Btw, my b&m had it black too.)

I LOVE Tuesday trench because it's perfect for mild Texas climate. But mostly it's just so classic and flattering on. I called CS to get a price adjustment on it and the CSR told me they are flying out the door all of a sudden.

But if you don't need a petite, you could chance it and wait on either one (since they are both available in stores) until you see if anything new comes out within the next couple of weeks that you like better. Hope this helps! I'd love to hear what you decide. :)

melissa: IRL ochre is beautiful! It is muted as you mentioned and subtle. Someone on polyvore said it could almost be used as a neutral since it is so muted.

  66. gosh, that was a long post...sorry.

  69. Okay...I "praised" JC and their CS before I actually received my package today ( my bad!). I ordered the new jean belt in dark gold and received a blouse instead. I called CS to let them know and she said she had to put in a new order for another belt and charge my JC card again. WTF???? Once they receive the blouse, which THEY sent incorrectly, THEN they would credit my card for the original belt that wasn't sent. Call me crazy, but this seems ass backwards!!! It's really a good thing I love these clothes otherwise I'd bail on JC for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  70. weab: what color/size Tuesday Trench did you get?

    ReplyDelete
  71. weab: thanks so much for letting me about the tuesday trench and felicia - it seems so much clearer now. i love the tuesday trench because it emphasizes the waist, but the felicia is so classy as well. i think as long as the pleats skim over your bottom, it should look ok. the felicia reminds me a lot of the stuff you would see in europe, or like a disney movie while the tuesday trench is old school, traditional classy.

thank you again for the review! i do need a petite, i'm 5'2" as well. i might just settle for the red tuesday trench now and the navy felicia later!

    ReplyDelete
  72. jcrewjunkie: I bought the Navy in a 2P. I can usually get away with a regular 2, but no way on this one. Even the regular 0 looked like it belonged to someone else because everything hit too low on me. The whole thing was sort of just blah. Now, in the right size, I'm so happy with it, very sophisticated. It looks like it was tailor made for me! :)

konosur: I think that sounds like a great plan! I was so tempted by the persimmon tuesday but resisted. btw, Cheers to fellow shorties! :)

  73. Hey gals - there's a NWT Rhubarb Felicia on ebay (size 4) for $180 Buy It Now with Free Shipping! I've dealt with this seller a few times and they're great.

    Item 220279691830

    ReplyDelete
  74. weab: Does Felicia and Tuesday Trench fit the same? I tried the felicia in 0 which fit me fine so I don't know if I should buy Tuesday (if sleeves are longer etc) in 0 or petite. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hey All! Does anyone know if you can stack this 20% with a student discount in store? It would be nice but knowing the 'Crew the answer is negative :(

    ReplyDelete
  76. anon 5:45: No, they don't fit the same at all. I was able to fit into a regular size in the Felicia and it looked fine, sleeves and all. But that was not the case with the Trench. While the sleeves were ok, the darts and waist hit too low. Even the zero looked weird on me so I had to do a petite. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  77. anon 5:48: I think the consensus on stacking the student discount with other discounts is that they should honor it since it's a policy not a promotion. Some crew employees have also posted on here that it is supposed to be honored. However, I think other posters have had trouble. I guess it really just depends on if you get an SA that is happy that do or not.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Update on roll-out: I had posted that it was supposed to happen this Friday (the 12th) but just learned it's actually next Friday the 24th. DARN! I was really looking forward to new items this week and had been holding off on purchasing anything else until then. Now I have to wait 8 more days without buying anything! YIKES I don't think I've ever gone that long. :0

    ReplyDelete
  79. Someone above mentioned the 20% off coupon expires the day new merchandise comes out. Is there going to be a bunch of new clothes coming in soon?

    ReplyDelete
  80. FWIW I have had trouble getting employees to apply my student discount with any other discounts they have to scan in (as opposed to the automatic ones on certain items).

I tried on the Tuesday Trench today. I just wanted to echo everyone else in saying to size down! Even the 0 seemed huge in the body, despite the waist-cinching tie.

    ReplyDelete
  81. melanie: that was my mistake. I had heard from someone at my b&m that roll-out was this week but that is not the case. Sorry to cause confusion.

    ReplyDelete
  82. weab: The 24th is 2 weeks away, you are going to have to wait abit longer.

I think the big change will be in November for the holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Can anyone review these
    BODEN Chunky Buckle Boots AZ085
? I have never purchased boots without trying them on in person. These look cool, and Boden has reviews about them but I thought I'd check with the "Pro's" before deciding. :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Man I'm feeling the need for a J.Crew fix. Trouble is I have a package arriving tomorrow. It was to be here this past Monday, but was mysteriously routed to the wrong city? Why do the retail gods work against us?

I've several items from the past month that are brand spanking new, but I can't wear them with all this warm weather. With some luck it'll cool off soon and I can wear my new merino sweaters, cricket sweater and washed scarf.

Not too worry I won't pile them on all at once. And who am I kidding, it's Canada, cold weather could only be hours away.

I do want to get a new tie in navy and some chinos after the whole gap crap pants thing.

  85. I was just wondering if anyone had been in a b&m store in the last couple of days, and could share what colors and style of the cords are on sale? I'm particularly interested in the matchsticks in the gray color...:)

    TIA!

  86. I absolutely HATE the Catarina tops!! (love the fabric hate the style) I have worn each of the two I own one time. Everytime I talk myself into attempting to wear it I take it off because I look like I'm expecting! They should give those away, along with the super-ill fitting Linen-cotton Casa Rossa jacket. Ickh

Go ahead, complain because I'm complaining ;)

  87. weab: First the Astrid w/berries, and now the Tuesday Trench...you are such an enabler...LOL. BTW...what are you going to wear with your Astrid? Jeans and a tank?

  88. Anon at 7:55....I hear ya on the Catarina tops. I have one I bought on sale early this summer and I totally look like I'm preggers!!! I've worn it maybe twice, always with a really slim bottom to compensate for the full top. The funny thing is that today I received one of my shipments and my belt was missing and in it's place was a size 4 Catarina top in white. Hilarious! Someone is trying to tell me something! LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. leslie: see, they're giving them away!! lol I'm thin too & even the slimmest of jeans won't get me to wear this top. I think I'll ebay them under maternity. Chow

  90. kater: all colors of the matchsticks cords are on sale for $69.50... at least in seattle.

  91. FFM: Do you have the Lydia in Navy? Just wondering what colors you have. :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. casual crew: Aaaaahhh!!! I totally miss counted! YIKES! I don't know if I can wait that long without buying anything! Lol!

jcrewjunkie: Did you buy the Trench? If so, what color? This one is a sure bet, no regrets, no second-guessing...it's just so classic! I think I'll be dressing my astrid down just as you said, jeans and a tank mostly. That's more my style. But I'll also wear it with a plain black skirt or nice black trousers for church and such. Have you worn yours yet?

  93. For those discussing coats, my two cents worth is that the Felicia fits true to size and the Tuesday trench is really kind of baggy in the torso. In fact, in the Trench in size 0 the shoulders were too tight, yet the coat was just way too big still. I bought the Felicia today and love it - I thought I wanted the belt to cinch the waist, but the Felicia is so tailored it's actually better and easier than dealing with a belt.

Also - just my opinion, but I love my Catarina top AND my white Linen-cotton Casa Rossa jacket. I guess it just depends on your body type. Although, I DEFINITELY always wear the Catarina top with slim-pants to off-set the bagginess of the top.

Has anyone else noticed that almost all the tops J Crew comes out with these days are very billowy. It does give off that prego look! (and for those of us who've worn maternity clothes lately, no thanks to that look!)

kater - All the matchstick AND bootleg cords were $69 at my B&M today.

  94. jcrewjunkie: I have the Elizabeth in Navy and the Lydia in Rhubarb. The Elizabeth in Black and Lydia in Ivory are on my wishlist. :)

  95. So reading back on reviews of the Velvet Ecole, the consensus was that it was a no-go? LOL! Portland Washington Sq. Mall has the velvet Ecole in burgandy and sweet papaya at 40% off retail, and the others at 25% off and I'm sorely tempted.

Someone tell me they suck - please :D!

They also had dream tie cardis in honey glaze for 40% off.

I'm thinking of just applying for a stinking card so I can get both items for less than $150!

  96. Anon at 11:45AM: I am sorry to hear about the order situation. That is awful that your credit card was charged so many times. :(

Anon at 1:12PM: I hope you get your order from 9/3 too. :)

Leslie: I am not a fan of the website showing inaccurate stock levels either. I am sorry to hear about your t-shirt being canceled on you so many times too. :( There will be a post about this very topic tomorrow. :)

Audrey: I am personally not a big fan of the Velvet Ecole. I think if the jacket were to go down significantly in price, I might consider it. But I think there are more prettier jackets that J.Crew is offering right now. :)

  97. Audrey,

I have the Ecole in Navy and love it. It fits me really well. I like that it just has a hook. It makes it more like a blazer, and lets you show off whatever top you have on underneath....kind of like the look when you button one button of a cardigan. I'm really excited about this jacket. I know it hasn't fit everyone the same, so it may not be for everyone. You can wear the sleeves down, or flip them up for a more casual look.

  98. kitsmommy (and anyone else interested): I received my sketchbook floral belle today and am so disappointed. :( I was really forward to this one since I love the print (still do). I have the paintbrush belle and love the fit of it. This one is not the same fit...too small in the same size 6 as the paintbrush. Also, the skirt is much fuller than the PB one. I laid them one on top of he other because I thought it may have been my imagination or just too many carbs today. ;) However, the sketchbook one is about an inch smaller in the waist, about 2 inches longer and about 4 inches fuller in the skirt (at the widest point since it tapers from the top to bottom, make sense?)

Anyway, it makes me look like an oompa loompa! So it's going back! So sad. :(

  99. i just ordered my butterfield jacket and cannot wait to receive it! i kept seeing all the posts about it and just fell in love when i saw what everyone was talking about! also i saw some posts about the adelaide dress...i got this dress the moment i saw it online and it fits me perfectly! although i am on the shorter side i wouldn't hesitate to try it because its such a great dress for fall. any ideas on shoes to wear with it? i feel knee high boots might take away from the ruffles at the hem :(

  100. Alexis and argyle: Thanks so much for your opinions! Hmm..this is a toughie because it does fit me well (surprisingly!). I'm so bummed about missing out on the Lexington and Bella in the past, I really want to have fitted blazer in something in my closet!

However, if the sentiments Alexis has is shared by others, I'm almost tempted to wait and see if it goes down further in price. Though 40% is pretty low for JC!

  101. audrey: i just grabbed the honey glaze dream tie cardi and adore it!! you can't beat 40% off :)

  102. I have to vent! I called CS to get a price adjustment on my wool tuesday trench and they said they would credit me back. I just got an e-mail from them saying that I have a gift card coming that is in the amount of my credit! I wanted my card credited back, not a gift card! I mean don't get me wrong, I'll use it but I just don't like that it was handled this way and I was not told this in advance. Jcrew, why are you toying with me? Just when I think we're good, you go and do this!

    ReplyDelete
  103. weab: That is incredibly annoying! If you didn't live by a b&m, you have basically been "surcharged" shipping, right? And if you do live by a b&m, that means you have to take the time to go to the store and make a purchase.

I would call back - that is not acceptable, IMHO...

    ReplyDelete
  104. lindsay: Thanks for the "encouragement" LOL! I read the past reviews on this and it seems like the sweater is a real hit or miss, depending on who is trying it on. I loved it, but I'm wondering what other colors in my wardrobe I can wear it with (besides white/cream).

    I may need FFM's help! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  105. audrey: I agree with you. I'm calling them right now! Thanks!

  106. btw, while I'm on hold, I know this is the wrong place to post this, but I have a burnished yellow Tessa sweater jacket size small, NWT. $50 shipped if anyone is interested.
(I just bought it on final sale and it's a bit big.)

  107. Ok, they are putting the credit back on my cc and invalidating the gift card (in case it still arrives). Seems like they should be able to prevent it from going out at this point but whatever, at least they're fixing my cc.

  110. I had promised some comments on the Seattle Pacific Place but I had to dash in and out so quickly that I don't have a lot to report. I get up there so rarely that I was shocked to find that the store had moved--rather than being two stories with the womens' upstairs and the men's down, it's now a long, narrow, and very crowded one-story shop. It was jammed full of merchandise and I found this a little off-putting.

Last week I finally received a new fall T-shirt that had been in stock but nonetheless took four weeks to ship. Then, two days later, I received a second one, for which I was not charged. I tried to give it back to the store, but they checked with catalog and insisted that I return it for credit, due to the previous customer service problem. They didn't have to offer twice--I happily accepted and given all the $$ I've spent and the hassles I've had, I didn't feel too guilty.

So, with the credit for that and then the $25 card and secret sale, I only paid $49 for a black cashmere T. A rather boring choice, I know, but the store was so small I really didn't want to browse longer. Perhaps the quarters are only temporary? I wonder what the scoop is on that.

I did try on the Sweet Potato Astrid, and I'm still interested in it and the matching skirt, but I need to pay this month's bill first--and wait for a better mark-down.

And, as always, I just have to complain briefly about the B&M prices being so much better than the web prices.

  111. I'm angry now, they somehow managed to double charge me after I tried to fix something over customer service. TY J.Crew . . .

  112. My two cents: I like the Caterina top. I have no problems with the 'maternity' look. I have the white which is quite transparent so a camisole is in order. Looks great with v-neck cardis.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Hexicon- I know what you mean, that store is packed. I can't even go on the weekends. I have to shop during the week, or the crowds drive me nuts

    ReplyDelete
  114. Regarding orders -- I placed an order on 9/4, was charged on 9/8 and I recvd it today, 9/10. I recvd all items, no problem. That's how things should go! I ordered a mix of items such as the Serengeti Tank 97029 and some Final Sale. I can't belive I recvd one item, a printed sweater, because the CS told me not to get my hopes up on it. I don't have any other orders outstanding, though. I may visit a b&m before the end of this sale. Not sure as I already have a ton of things I haven't worn. FWIW, I have ordered a few items from eBay and have been really, really pleased. Most have been NWT or NWOT.

And finally -- I know many are moving into cooler weather, but for those that aren't, I found that the tie front tissue tank 97028 is really cute on. Doesn't go too low and I have a full bust. It's like the tie tank available in spring/summer, but the tie is less voluminous and placed at the chest rather than the shoulder.

  115. I made use of the coupon this morning. This blog is making my wardrobe better and better, but my credit card feels it as well.

Two ties, a shetland sweater in camel and some classic fit chinos. I'm way into J.Crew now and the Gap won't be seeing me in their store anymore.

  116. i found this blog less than 2 days ago and it is the best thing ever. i had already made a purchase but called and asked them to apply the 20% off promo and they did! saved me a lot of money. thank you to my new favorite blog

  117. Melissa - I just bought the Serge in Ochre and I love it! It is muted, and will look great with chocolate browns, eggplant, grey... really, any "warm" color. Definitely a must!

    ReplyDelete
  118. jcrewguyincanada -- Stay out of the GAP. You aren't missing anything there. After you finish stocking your wardrobe w/J Crew, then you can intermittently visit GAP, k? *lol* Seriously, though. I am getting so many more compliments on my outfits now that they are 80-100% J Crew. I feel good, but it's nice to hear people say it too :-)

    ReplyDelete
  119. gigiofca: Yes I complteely hear you about staying out of the Gap. After Gap clothing is washed it shrinks and changes in mysterious ways. I have some Gap clothing and after a few washings it looks like I was drunk when I bought it.

J.Crew always gets me noticed, but in the right ways. I am finding that all I want is J.Crew and if I buy elsewhere I end up going back to J.crew to replace the disappointing item. So it's cheaper to just buy from J.Crew first.

  120. These criticisms of Gap are interesting, because Patrick Robinson is receiving rave reviews since taking over and it's his stuff that's in stores now. I don't shop at Gap myself - I think I've stopped by a store twice in the past year, but that's just because I feel I've outgrown them.

    ReplyDelete
  121. The comment about Patrick Robinson's items at the Gap is a good one. The design might be better, but is the quality?
