J.Crew Aficionadas: Please Re-Read :)

A few of the recent posts contained some comments that were quite negative. Therefore, I thought it might be worthwhile re-posting this:

Let me start out by saying that overall, I believe this blog has the BEST members. In general, everyone has been super insightful and helpful with their comments, suggestions, and advice. Our willingness to share with each other is AMAZING!!! For example, I loved how we were all willing to report back from visits to stores this weekend with what was on sale and available. I am really grateful for everyone's help in making this blog so wonderful to be a part of. :)

My concern is as follows: I have noticed more and more comments (although they are still, thankfully, few in number) that are just negative with no value to the topic at hand. These negative comments not only distracts me from the conversation but also deters me from posting additional comments (and I can imagine it is deterring some of you from posting additional comments as well.)

Moreover, I notice that many (but certainly not all) of these negative comments are being posted under "Anonymous". I enabled the "Anonymous" posting feature because there are several members unable to log-in with a blogger account, not so a handful of visitors can anonymously attack other posters or make questionable comments. (I should also note, that the majority of "Anonymous" posters really have been and are fantastic members!)

So this is my plea for common courtesy...
  1. Please don't post negative (or questionable) comments. (I hate the idea of "policing" this site by deleting negative comments with no added value.) If you are upset (which is totally understandable at times), please frame your point in a clear, logical manner without getting personal.
  2. Please don't assume the worst in the comments. (Sometimes what we write doesn't always come across the way we intended it to.) :)
  3. Please don't respond to negative (or questionable) comments. Just ignore it. ;)
Let's keep up the great community of sharing that we have built together! :)

  2. Thank you, Alexis, for your always calm demeanor and level head! I hope your kindness and generosity with anonymous posters does not continue to be used to create chaos here.

  3. Amen Alexis!!! I was getting exhausted reading all that garbage. Now....back to J.Crew.....!!!!

  4. Thank you Alexis. It seems lately the blog in general has been more critical and less about Jcrew fashion/style. Maybe this is a barometer of how people our reacting to the volatilty of the stock market and uncertain economic outlook.

  5. Has anyone noticed that the jcrew.com has "yahwah.com" imprinted over many of its images now? The women's section has a lot.

  6. Thank you everyone for your comments and understanding! I really do appreciate them. :)

To quote Leslie's fantastic line: "Now... back to J.Crew"! :)

  7. Alexis, thanks once again. Thanks for your blog which I am completely adicted to and also thanks for being so reasonable and level headed in regards to the few negatives.

Did you know that I check this blog out more than I check out J.Crew, funny huh?

I received the sweater next to my post and it is great. Love it.

  8. Can I say something here in peace, The profanity used against the anons by some posters on this blog I found offensive, there are more creative ways to express oneself. There are some very good anon posters on this blog, and there are some trolling this blog creating trouble, just ignore the ones causing trouble. This is such a great site.

  9. Spot on as always Alexis - Thanks. For those with nothing positive to add go troll the Fashion Bug or Gap blogs and have a blast........

  10. Hey, I am a new reader to this blog...came across it a few weeks ago. I was on j.crew's site yesterday and again today and am noticing writing that appears over certain clothing photos. The writing says "yawah.com". Has anyone else been seeing this/know what is going on?

As soon as I saw it I thought of this site, and figured someone would hae the answer!

  11. Whew Alexis...thanks for calming everything down. I love this blog and the people who post are SUPER!! I almost forgot to pack my son's lunch today I got so busy reading the posts!! LOL. Call me an addict as well. :)

  12. I have been trolling around the site and it is FANTASTIC! I have actually purchased quite a few things in the past week since viewing the site! Quick question-Does anyone have the fleur suede heels? Wondering if they were worth buying seeing as though they were suede? Thanks for the great site- keep up the good work!

  13. I remember awhile back someone posted about the Madwell clothes. I just wanted to say I received a sweater I ordered today and I love it! It is the BEST color blue!

  14. I have noticed that yawah.com as well and suspected it was something to do with the recent website fiasco, but I was wondering about it as well.

  15. Thank you Alexis!! Far too often, comments on blogs or news sites are full of hatred-spewing nonsense. Thanks for demanding good behavior.

  16. Jcrew guy in Canada - I love that sweater! I hope you enjoy wearing it, and please post a review if you have a moment - I'm hoping to get my husband into one for Christmas. I really appreciate hearing from you about the J.Crew men's clothing, as it helps me decide what is worth buying for my husband and what is not, as well as what he probably would like.

    Cheers!

  17. hey fashionista social worker, I just received the sweater and it's great. Saw it in August in the fall look book and contacted my PS and did a preorder.

The sweater fits great, and works much like the washed favorite shirts, fitted without being tight. I like how the sweater has a slim cut. The wool is soft and just slightly heavier than the merino sweaters, which are a personal favorite. I find J.Crew tops fit very true. Tghe sleeve length is spot on for me and I'm pretty much a medium in everything. The colours are great in the sweater and work well with navy, charcoal and definitely chinos.

Hope this helps you out. If you plan to get him the sweater order it soon, I bet it sells out just like the cricket sweater did. Glad I preodered that one too.

  18. In the spirit of positivity, Alexis maybe you could create a "What I love about J Crew" thread? I know there's been a lot of complaining about rising prices and web problems but we all still love the Crew that's why we care so much!

    ReplyDelete
  19. FSW: I posted a couple comments for you in the Bold Gold thread that I hope clarify the situation. I hope you'll take a look!

  20. I am a very positive person...not all anonymous are negative and nasty! However, I do completely understand the negative comments towards JCrew. This whole website upgrade has been an ongoing, very long and drawn out mess that has left me discouraged with the company. I love JCrew and my husband is so happy I am not obsessed with them any longer. I can only shop online and have had many problems-- I don't have a store nearby (for the past year) after having 3 by me for many years so this has been very frustrating.

  21. Alexis-

I was wondering if you could create a 'What has sold out that you really wanted, but didn't buy fast enough' post. That way if one of us sees something pop back on the site we can post it here. I think it would be helpful for everyone. Thank You!!

  22. anon at 510pm: I like that idea! :)

And speaking of one that did, I found this shift dress on J.Crew's site, a twinkle tweed shift. You can't see it on the site anymore but here is a very tiny image. Anyway, apparently they only made 2 of each size so I didn't get my preorder. :(

  23. Hi All - Anyone have any info on the cashmere hacking jacket. I bought last year's version the other day with some additonal % off, but am still a little worried about it. Has anyone purchased one? Felt the material? Feedback would be wonderful.

I am all for postivity and think the idea about what we love about J Crew would be wonderful.

  25. Amen to that. Off topic, but does anyone know what the "final verdict" (if there is one) is regarding student discount being combined with other promotions? Because I've tried to use my student discount when I used a code, and sometimes I have no problems, but sometimes they only let me use one.

  26. Thanks melanie- Yes, that dress is beautiful, and a keeper. They seriously underestimated the demand for that dress, which is funny, because that is the market they SAY they are aiming for. I have no doubt they will learn from that though. The interesting thing about that dress is that it primarily attracts a buyer in the 30-55 range....you know, the ones that started out with J Crew when it first hit the scene and they were in high school and college? Now they have more money, are shopping at Neiman's, Saks, and Nordstrom, and the brightly colored tissue tees, and cutesy over the top jewelry leave them cold. J Crew definitely has a lot of H & M-ish cheap looking clothing that this buyer would never consider. A dress like that doesn't even seem like it's made by the same company.

I, for one, like the idea of a separate 'Collection' division aimed at these 30-55 year olds with money to spend. Nowhere is J Crew saying that the 'Collection' is aimed at this market: that would be suicide, as we saw with Forth and Town, (no one wants to shop at the 'Older Lady' store) but I definitely think that is the market "Collection' is aiming for.

  27. I am not a technical person, but appears to me that yawah.com is a hosting site that stores/processes/publishes most of J crew images( virtual image base?). The fact that logo shows occasionally is probably a temporary glitch. So, all who see it, relax, we all are sane.:)Hopefully, J crew will fix it along with multiple other glitches still circulating in a system.

  28. YAWEH.COM is tied to their ADOBE picture software.
ALEXIS maybe you should make a quick post so everyone and all the new people wondering about this strange term across the website pics will have some understanding of why it shows up and not to concern themselves (albeit annoying).
I just went to the website to see what it was..clarifies things:)

  29. Alexis, hope your move is going well or went well.

OT, I was in the columbus circle store earlier today, and there were alot of sweaters on sale. The dream tie cardigan as well as the dream tafreta sash cardigan were on final sale.

I was kind of surprised because these have not been marked down online but they are on final store in store.

  32. Alexis, thank you for being such a great moderator in regards to some of the recent mean-spirited posts. We owe you a lot for creating this blog and allowing those of us who appreciate and love JCrew styles to have a "home". :) I try to remember I'm a "guest" in someone's "blog house"!

ETA: I deleted my comment about yawah because previous posters answered the comment!

  33. lleila: I am not a student or a teacher but since I have heard so much discussion about it on here, I finally just asked my store manager (and the district manager while she was in my b&m) if they have a set rule/policy about that. They said there is no set rule against combining the student/teacher discount with other ones. They said it's "discretionary" but ultimately, they just want to make their customers happy.

  34. mom-nyc-
Do you recall if they have the eggplant purple color tie front cardigan in their sale stuff?
    Thx!

    ReplyDelete
  35. covert5: I was sort of in a hurry so I spent little time there. I recall navy blue, pink(ish) color, mustard yellow, and grey. But the table of sweaters was in a heap so I might have missed some other colors lurking underneath the other stuff.

For the taffeta sash cardigan, they had grey, brown and yellow.

Call the store, the staff is really helpful.

  36. Here's a positive: the b&m in Rockaway, NJ had an extra 50% off final sale items today, and I'm guessing other stores have the same. I picked up a laminated canvas bag, a corduroy skirt and some socks for just about $50. Awesome!

  37. OT but has any one noticed that the hammered silks are starting to be sold out? I just checked the 0 Peacock and its gone online :(

  38. Alexis - LOVE this blog. Keep up the great work. I think this thread was much needed after reading the angry posts from some of the ladies. This blog is a great way to relax and find great information. Let's keep it that way! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anyone else see final sale at an additional 50% off in b&m?

I called the J Crew store in Vacaville, CA and they have the Bella in tweed, herringbone & velvet at 30% off. I'm sure someone posted that in another thread awhile back, but I wanted to reiterate it -- even though the FS version may not be as swell as last year's. The velvet is $82.60 after the discount. The salesperson (very sweet) says they don't know when promos will begin/end, but sometimes they swap out on Thursdays so it could end day after tomorrow.

  40. I was in my b&m a few hours ago and they only had 25% off final sale... I WISH it were 50%!!

  42. Alexis-thanks for such a great message and Yes back to J Crew!! Love this Blog and great J Crew discussions.
Just purchased the Merino Paige Jacket- it doesn't look super exciting online or in the catalog- but my favorite J Crew associate encouraged me to try it on today-WOW Love the fit!! SUPER flattering (if I do say so myself:) and I know that I will be wearing it both to work with some grey dress pants and boots and on weekends with jeans. A lot of J Crew jackets are very short, and for a gal with a little 'junk' that I don't always want out there- this is a nice alternative.

I LOVE the Merino Rose cardigan in Plum!! It is already sold out in many sizes:(

Thanks again for a great forum!

  43. This is random, but has anyone seen the show "Privileged" on the CW? The main character wears all JCrew, and mostly stuff within the last few seasons. The stylist on the show puts some really great twists on the items, check it out!

  44. I suspect that those mean comments were done by 'trolls', and they will just go away if none of us take the bait. Ignore them.

On the tie cardigan - I've never seen the purple one in stores, and I've been to several large stores that stock a lot of merchandise at Southern Cal.

  45. Some one asked for a review of the Selima glasses (I think) a while back.

Here's a mini one. I got the zoe sunglass style (now sold out).

Overall I am quite pleased with the design and style. The style is conservative but still pretty unique with the oversized rims, 2 tone frame and the slightly cat's eye shape. The plastic and hinge seems pretty sturdy, and about on par in terms of quality with other designer glasses I have such as Fendi, Chanel, and Maui Jim.

I was kind of surprised at how flat the glasses are when folded. The price is slightly high, but with the 20% discount it's about on par for designer glasses.

The problem is J Crew's website doesn't really feature the glasses well. To see the scale and whether it works with a particular face shape it'll be more helpful to have pictures of the models wearing the glasses instead of just the glasses alone.

Anyway, if I ever go to NYC or Paris I'll have to check out the Selima Optique and try out more pairs in person.

  48. Hey Alexis -- thanks for running the blog! Reading this can save a true jcrewaficionada or jcrewaholic (depending on how positive you want to be) a lot of bother and sometimes money. I normally take a small and not an xs in blouses and sweaters and would have had a wrong-size final sale purchase but for you and the bloggers. thanks to all, and don't be bothered by the growling.

As for the YAWAh.com words across some images. . . that's the "zoom" technology which is new on the site. Probably rushed web developers.

  49. Alexis (and others): you're truly right when you say we have a "great community." I look forward to reading this blog daily. It's a "virtual" place to chat with girlfriends who give advice and enable :) Most of my friends don't enjoy j.crew as much as I do (maybe I need some new friends-lol!) so this is a great place to be able to vent (in a good way) and get tips and advice from others who really know their stuff. Thanks for having this blog, and thanks to everyone else for being so involved.

I just placed another order for the rustic french terry pullover in the weathered stone color. I have been stalking that thing for months now, and finally just pulled the trigger the moment I saw it become available. Can't explain why I like it so much, but I do :) I also got the grosgrain bow city tee cardigan. Has anyone else gotten this yet? Like it?

  50. Oh no-- this is depressing. I go AWOL for a few days and apparently everyone went crazy again. Thank you Alexis for this blog! Its kept me distracted throughout the summer when I needed to get away from real life for a while. It has actually probably helped to keep me sane.

This is my plea guys, I really need this distraction right now. So please keep your comments friendly and happy. I need a place to go where I don't need to think about the real world.

Thanks for your help--- you've all helped in ways you probably couldn't understand.

  51. Alexis, thank you for this site and thank you for this note. It's a good reminder for us all.
Though I've been annoyed with shipping issues as of late my enthusiasm for their product is undimmed.
BTW... I was just in Ireland and bought myself a leopard print blouse, so much for my fear of looking like a cougar ;-)

  52. bit condescending there, blumre. The vast majority did not go crazy. How about applying the plea for common courtesy to yourself, too.

I enjoy reading this blog, too, and learn a lot from it. I love discussing the clothes, and being able to share with others frustration about the three-month website fiasco.

  53. I just got the e-mail about the jenna bracelet. So that's like what, 3-4 days after it was posted here. Why am I always the last to know, J.Crew, lol ....

    ReplyDelete
  54. Whoa Anonymous... I haven't even read what happened yet. I haven't even caught up on any of the posts. I just know Alexis wouldn't have posted this unless something really bad was said. I don't mean crazy in anyway--- I just don't even know what happened. I am sorry if you took it to mean that I was attacking everyone. But I think I specifically thanked Alexis for this distraction through a much needed time in my life. And I also thanked everyone else for helping me... how is that condescending?

    ReplyDelete
  55. "apparently everyone went crazy again"

Maybe in the future wait until you've caught up before throwing out such lines.

Most of us here enjoy coming here for the distraction, and appreciate Alexis' work. A few trolls show up and instigate stuff, but they're in the minority, thankfully.

  58. appgirl: I also have ordered the Grosgrain Bow Tie City Tee and should be getting it on Friday. I think this is a great piece that you can dress up (like the picture on the web it was with a skirt) or just with cords and jeans.

  59. To follow up on Leslie's post about the infamous giraffe necklace: There's a new listing with auction starting at 99 cents! I'm not the seller. I have the same necklace and I adore it!! Paid full price on the J.Crew website but worth every penny and more cos it's completely sold out.

  60. casual-crew: hooray! let me know what you think when you get it. You're right...it seems like it will be a very versatile piece. I'm excited :)
