Calling All J.Crew Aficionadas: Can You Help? :)

I have received a request to help locate an item from a fellow Aficionada, that I am hoping our community can help out with. :)

Herringbone Cheshire Jacket
Item 89711
Regular: Petite $225.00

Esther placed an order on October 18th, for a pair of cords and the Herringbone Cheshire Jacket (in "Salt Pepper; size 0 in petite). The order arrived to her Canadian address on October 24th, but the shipment only contained the pair of cords. Although she was charged for both items (the jacket and cords), J.Crew forgot to ship the jacket. :(

After talking to J.Crew's customer service, J.Crew informed her that there were no more Herringbone Cheshire Jacket in "Salt Pepper" (size 0 in petite) left. (They even tried a "we-will-find-it" search with no luck.)

Esther believes "that the jacket was accidentally placed into someone else's box and thus, shipped to a customer who did not order the Cheshire". She is hoping that the customer who received her jacket by accident might be a member of this blog. (She is also aware that the chances of her receiving the jacket are slim, but thought it would be worth a try to ask.) :)

So, if you received an extra Herringbone Cheshire Jacket in "Salt Pepper" (petite size 0) in your recent J.Crew shipment that you did not order, would you please contact me at jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com. I will forward your information to Esther. "Thank you!" in advance! :)

P.S. Another request for an item with a similar situation has been made. Kaitlyn is looking for the Cashmere fringe scarf (Item 11789, $150.00) in sea mist that she ordered, never received (but was charged), and is now unavailable to order. If you received this in one of your J.Crew shipments that you did not order, would you please contact me and I will forward your information to Kaitlyn. "Thank you!" again in advance! :)

  1. A similar incident happened to me before. I thought the item was just left in the jcrew warehouse.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about Ester’s jacket…I understand her frustration because this is exactly the same as what happened to me.

I placed an order of Porta Jacket (in navy; size 0) and a ruffle T-shirt 6 months ago. The shipment only contained the ruffle T-shirt but J.Crew charged me for both items. J.Crew customer service told me that J.Crew forgot to ship my Porta Jacket and that there were no more Porta Jackets available in navy size 0. J.Crew refunded money but I was so disappointed. J.Crew told me that there were Porta Jacket in Petit available, so I ordered Porta Jacket in navy petit size 2.

A couple days later, J.Crew informed me that my missing order was shipped! I was so excited to hear that my missing Porta Jacket was shipped. However, in fact, J.Crew just mistook the Petit Porta Jacket as my original order (Regular Porta Jacket). The Petit Porta Jacket arrived to me but finally the Regular Porta Jacket never arrived…

J.Crew’s wharehouse operation is far from perfection. Two month later, I had the same experience once again. When I ordered skinny belts in orange and green, J.Crew shipped only a skinny belt in orange but forgot to ship the other one in green, although the invoice clearly stated that shipment contained the two belts. Again I got refund but there were no more skinny belts in green available…

J.Crew should compensate for missing orders because it is clearly J.Crew’s fault. I was very disappointed that J.Crew did not compensate for my several missing orders at all. Also, J.Crew should ship items to customers who missed those items before putting old items up for online sales. Actually I found many times that Porta Jackets in navy were up for online sale with additional mark down, which really upset me.

I hope that Ester will be able to find her Herrigbone Cheshire Jacket in Salt Pepper. If J.Crew employees read this post, please put her order first on the waiting list and ship the item to her before putting extra Herrigbone Jackets up for sale next time.

  3. Another thing I don't understand is how older items just "appear" long after they were originally up for sale. I actually purchased this exact same jacket in November of last year (I wore it to a christening, that's how I remember), then of course after paying full price, it went on sale for super cheap plus additional % off and as far as I was concerned, all sold out, months ago....then a few weeks ago, I saw them on the "final sale" again. So where was this inventory all this time? I've seen it happen with other items too.

  4. anon 1:49, what was the item? i've seen long lost bella jackets too...jcrew are you hiding the good stuff again?

  5. I ordered their uptown tote i light gold (older version, not the platinum new one) and a sweater.

Tote was cancelled, sweater arrived. They did a "we will find it for you" even though it was a sale item. They didn't have any totes in that color in stock.

So, here I am a month after the "incident"- those totes appeared online again. I thought it was a mistake but I received my light gold tote today.

If your jacket doesn't arrive, keep checking online. You may get lucky like I did. I wish I could help more :(

  6. Good luck, Esther! I hope we get a happy update from you :-)

  7. Sorry to hear about your frustrating issue, Esther. It's pretty amazing that this kind of problem is still happening so many months after the website debacle. Pretty careless. I hope it's resolved quickly for you!

  8. Hope you find your jacket!

OT - It looks like JCrew is having some promotional items on a couple of the coats (Shipley, Plaza, Harriet and stadium cloth Lucinda). I also noticed that the Jackie cardi is $54 instead of $64.

  11. J.Crew updated website does some marketing. Ruffle cami($88):"So many pleats, so LITTLE PRICE" , Down vest: "wise investment ONLY $118"...$88 is expensive for just a cami and $118 is not the price we can say "only". J.Crew marketing does not deliver good value for the price and it even sounds unrealistic for the current economy.

  12. A similar incident happened to me a couple of months ago but I was the receipent of someone elses order, it was accidently put in my box. I sent it back.

These problems can be easily rectified by QUALITY CONTROL. Lands End tick off the invoice when you have multiple items why can't J Crew?

anon 5:26 - That puffer vest is $98.00 in the store (it was on sale for $88.00 previously) according to posters on this blog, but on-line it is still $118.00. T

  13. Yes, I have had similar problems more than once and I have sworn off ordering from them online......the downside--no store near me...so I only shop their once or twice a year:( So sad...but I don't have time to mess around with their repeated goofs...

I have been ordering from LLBean and Land's End since I was 16. I have NEVER had a problem with missing items from orders...

  14. Casual-crew & Anon@5:48am:
I agree with you. I have NEVER had issues with Victoria's Secret. Once the item got sold out after ordering, VS sent me a apology card. VS pays courtesy to customers. Also, waitlisted items are usually shipped earlier than expected ship date, never delay like J.Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  15. anon 6:18 - I also would like to point out that I have not had any problems since that order, and I had many orders since August that were error free.

  16. I typed in the style # on the JCrew website and petite size 8 and 10 show as inventory. Hopefully they'll get a 0 in again. I'd keep trying. Goodluck, I'm sorry to hear about what happened I know how disappointing it is.
A while ago I tried to get the beaded flower belt and had my order cancelled as they said they wouldn't get anymore in. I kept trying and eventually more showed up and I got one.

  17. Last week I ordered a Paper-poplin raincoat in yellow, I didn't have my hopes up as I was told inventory was low. But then miraculously, the order appeared on my account as shipped that same day - a first for me. Once I got it, I recieved the Mendocino jacket instead, and in the wrong size. Extremely disappointed. Of course they don't have any more anywhere. Lately I've had smooth ordereing, so that came out of the blue, hope it itsn't a predictor of holiday shopping - I am not sure that I can handle it then.

  18. So glad you mentioned Victoria Secret...I LOVE their clothes...so unique, esp. the sweaters...I bought 3 with the floral jeweled buttons a few years ago and they had one similar to the Dream Simone that in my opinion had the prettiest satin detailing with Asian inspired accents...PLUS, I never had a problem with an order in 4 1/2 years and I ordered from them A LOT! Backordered items were ALWAYS sent...never cancelled and mainly sent BEFORE the dates...I have forgotten.

Once I ordered something from JCrew's we will find it for you...I got another ladies jacket in a size 0 and my sweater in size M was sent to her...I lived in MN and she lived in MA!

I had forgotten how good CS at VS is!!!! super duper

  20. I thought JC doesn't carry petite sizes in stores. If that is so, find these might be neigh on impossible.

  21. Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all of your support and encouragement. I must say, I am rather disappointed/frustrated at J. Crew this time around as this has never happened to me before...but even more so after hearing that this has occurred on numerous occasions to fellow Aficionadas!

Anonymous at 8:50am: Thanks for letting me know about the P8 & P10 available; I thought the item had completely sold out online and hadn't even bothered to search via the item #!

I have a quick question: I just checked my order history and there is a new entry stating that I have -1 (ie., quantity = negative one) P0 Herringbone Cheshire Jacket in Salt Pepper with status "Pre-Returned". I'm not quite sure I understand this; is this how J. Crew puts credit on my account for the missing item? (For their inventory purposes, however, they're still short one jacket...and it seems odd that they would add this non-existent jacket back into the warehouse stock.)

    Many, many thanks,

    Esther

  22. ALEXIS!!!
    Help!
The EXACT same thing happened to me YESTERDAY!!!
I ordered two items, one a pair of pants, and the other was item 11789 the Cashmere Fringe Scarf in Sea Mist. I got the pants and not the scarf. On the invoice I was charged for both items. I called CS and they told me they didn't have anymore scarves but that they would credit my card back the amount. They did a find it for me and they didn't find it.
I too believe that JCrew should do something to customers when this happens. All they said was that it was probably put into someone elses box! So if anyone could help me out too that would be great.

  23. Sorry to hear that. It happened to me also, but just keep checking back on their website, sometimes it can come back.

I guess I have a suspicious mind, but I wonder if J Crew check their warehouse personnel's bags and trash to make sure that they don't just carry them off and resale?

The error rate sounds rather high. Too high.

  24. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/gifts/womens/PRDOVR~11789/11789.jsp

I googled the information, and that is a like to what the scarf looks like. Of course if I put the item number into a search on jcrew, they don't have a record of the item even existing! (I know most of the time when you put an item number that is sold out, they put "sorry this item has sold out, we wish we had made more" or something to that effect.

  25. I'm sorry about your jacket. This happened to me, too. (Twice, actually.) I am so frustrated with J.Crew's inventory mishaps that I'm not buying from them anymore.

  27. I also forgot to mention ("fun" with JCrew orders online never stops)

I was waitlisted and charged for a belt approximately a month ago. Since I have made many orders since then, it's not on their website under my account anymore.

I have no information about this belt (if it is going to be available) or any refund.

I emailed them and told them on numerous occasions that I have never had such a bad experience with any other retailer before (in addition, Ralph Lauren sends ALL their items in beautiful packaging regardless of the item price-I remember someone complaining about bad packaging even for JCrew coats)

I'll keep ordering online, I now have a "prepare for the worst, hope for the best" attitude...

  28. Anon 10:37am,

I heard a similar story from a sales rep in a J.Crew shop. She told me that inventory items are frequently stolen from J.Crew warehouse (by employees (?)). I could not believe my ear, but she said it happens all the time...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Esther: I've had something marked as 'pre-returned' too, for when it turns out they didn't ship it to you. I guess it's considered a pre-return because you were charged but never actually got the item?

    ReplyDelete
  30. as for items that return to the wbsite after many months of being gone, I think it's just returns from people who hold onto stuff for a really long time and then return it. or maybe it's an item that was a big pile of stuff that got returned in the warehouse. I don't think they're "hiding" stuff from us on purpose. BGD

  31. I completely empathize. A few days ago, J.Crew messed up my order AGAIN. I ordered 4 gifts to be shipped overnight: a burgundy velvet jacket, a tawny olive velvet jacket, a tweed jacket, and a handbag. The next day, I receive a UPS package containing the tawny olive velvet jacket and the tweed jacket....and then I get a FedEx package with the handbag and then the tawny olive velvet jacket and tweed jacket again! So for those of you counting, that's 2 tawny olive velvet jackets, 2 tweed jackets, and 0 burgundy velvet jackets. At least they got the handbag right. :( So I called to see if the burgundy would be arriving, and they said since their system said it shipped out, they'd have to do a 'find it' to see where it got lost, and then they could send me a new one after that process was complete in 7-10 DAYS!!! I ordered it overnight for a reason! *sigh* this is the 4th time since the website overhaul that one of my items has been missing from an order (one was the opera-length pearl necklace, and I really freaked when that didn't show up like it was supposed to). I mean, this is not rocket science! I've been ordering from J.Crew for years and have never seen anything like this. It has to be fixed, and ASAP!

  32. I too, empathize with this situation. I ordered 4 bridesmaid dresses and only received 2, even though I was charged for all four. The box that I received the 2 in could not even fit 4 so something was not right. This caused me so much anxiety because I was worried that by the time I brought this to their attention, the 2 other dresses would be sold out and I'd have to choose all new bridesmaid dresses again. Luckily they overnighted me two more but now anytime I order from j.crew online I'm skeptical of what I'll actually receive. I hope they will find a way to prevent this from happening so frequently!

  33. I've had so many mistakes with my orders lately. I had ordered a Perfect-Fit t-shirt a few weeks ago and found out that it was waitlisted. This was fine, since I wasn't in any hurry to receive it. It arrived last week, but when I opened the package, I saw that it was a crewcuts blue and white striped t-shirt! While I was shipped the entirely wrong item, the plastic bag that the little crewcuts shirt came in had a sticker with the correct item number for the Perfect-Fit t-shirt in the correct color and size.

You would think a little Quality Control would have prevented this. The crewcuts t-shirt is clearly not the size or color it states on the plastic bag. I called CS and got it straightened out. I had to have them ship me a return label, since the t-shirt was a final sale item and they didn't include a return label with my package.

More recently I put in an order for the Taffeta A-Line skirt in Warm Taupe sz. 4. I got an email saying that they were sold out and so they cancelled my order. However, the skirt is still available to order online and it even says that it is in stock! I ordered the skirt the very day the new arrivals were posted online, so I find it hard to believe that it sold out that quickly. Oh well, who knows! I'm placing my order again and seeing what happens. *crosses fingers*

Good luck to all J. Crew Aficionadas ordering online!

  34. HELP! Looking for item #96125 honey glaze soiree jacket in size small. JCrew sent me the wrong size so I returned it to get the correct size. I waited and waited and finally called only to find out they didn't have it in stock anymore! arg! They probably shipped it to someone else in the meantime even though I ordered it first...very bummed about it especially bc it was on sale and I got a good deal on it too. Any way I can get it somewhere?
