J.Crew Email: Fall Sale & New Styles Added

"Thanks!" to Lesley , Green_Dino (in this post), and others who let us know that J.Crew sent an email wishing a Happy Halloween and announcing new styles added to the fall sale.

I have not been checking the sale section on JCrew.com as much as I use to. (The section doesn't seem to be as "awesome" as it use to be- in terms of prices and selection. I feel like I get a better deal from their stores.) I also have a feeling like there will be better deals to be had during the holiday. Are any of you waiting as well? :)

58 comments:

  1. I have a few items I'm waiting for sale such as the Classic Peacoat in Camel and the Corin dress in black.

I really think J.Crew should offer a "wishlist" on their website like Martin & Osa's where you can e-mail them to people.

  2. I have totally given up on the website. I can only look at the same sale items for so long and although they say there are new items to the sale... I am not too excited about them. I love my local SA's and always get a better deal in my local stores. I have my eyes on the crystal button cardigan in black- how appropriate for Halloween!
OT- I received my Maggie and had to return it, as I felt like the fabric was too stiff and I did not love the camel color.
    Love the Blog Alexis!

  3. I'm waiting for a golden cypress Aubrey herringbone jacket to be on sale. It's available online only. I usually get a better deal from my local store. But I noticed J Crew has more and more items exclusively online/catalog especially the ones that they know always sell.

  4. I was waiting on matchstick denim in light blue, but I guess have to wait a little longer. There is no way I am paying$90 for them just yet.:)Especially, considering that on-line ordering does not honor educator's discount any longer.Sigh!

  5. FYI-
    Be forewarned with jewelry!

I couldn't pass up some deals in the sale section as my store got me their extra 30% off but after their arrival today...I feel like Mr. T!
1)Carnaval enamel necklaces-both the royal violet and green. I thought they were very small tiles--like the enamel link version that was on so many models but NO these are big and heavy and the paint is chipping off.
2)The Bee jeweled Glass Bead necklace. This is much larger than it appears as well. Each bead is chunky and reminds me of the pasta necklaces my kids made in preschool only this one has fabulous glass pasta beads. So HEAVY too and going back! Eek!

  6. I feel like there aren't actually any new items today that haven't been on the sale page for a few days now. :(

Thanks for the info. I almost ordered that same necklace and decided against it. I really liked the picture of it. I wish they would have one picture with the jewelry on a model, so that the measurements are in perspective. I thought the tiles looked fairly small too.

  8. Unless you don't have a store within driving distance, I can't imagine why someone would pay for a sale item online, unless it is a catalog/online exclusive of course. The deals are so much better in store. JC should match their store prices online, I think they would move more merch that way. I have 6 stores within an hour drive, I will drive for an extra 40%.

  9. Anon @ 1:01 p.m. I have different view of both pieces and would not consider warning anyone against either piece.

The Bee-Jeweled Glass necklace does have chunky beads. They play off against the jeweled bee clasp. I wear mine with the clasp on the side and get loads of compliments.

I too have heard reports that some carnval necklaces are chipped. Mine is not and I take care when I take it off and on and store it. I'm only guessing but I think the enamel can be scratched or chipped by the edges of other links. The enamel wrap around metal links and there are lots of metal edges and corners. Mine came carefully bubbled wrapped. If I received one that was damaged--there would be no question it would go back.

  10. I am with you, Alexis. The prices at the store seem much better. However, that means schlepping many children to the b&m (which means I never get to go). So, I am spending significantly LESS money. Alot less. The sale section seems stale, at this point. I feel that we have been looking at the same merchandise forever. The prices barely budge. I am just not that into it. I used to be like you, and browse every morning as part of my daily ritual. No more. After this summer, and JCrew's ever changing policies and less generous offers, I am just NOT excited about the sale section (regular section either). I am disappointed. However, there are items here and there that I still want, I just don't want most of it (like I used to). I am highly selective of everything I purchase from JCrew now vs. much more impulse sale buying before....

  11. OT: Is the velvet Ecole still on sale in the store? I really want the cobalt one. Also, does the jacket run TTS?

  12. I agree with slastena, since they do not honor the educator's discount any longer online, I prefer browsing the sale section of my local store. They put things on sale way before the online sale section, plus they always have an additional 20-40% off, to which they always gladly add the 15% educator's discount. In the past week I picked up the beaded shoe tee, which was 9.99 less 30% less 15%, long sleeve cashmere tee which was 99.99 less 30% less 15%; black birdseye cardi for 69.99 less 30% and 15%; and a great hooded zip/button terry hooded jacket that had been $68 came to $17.00! Also, some of the embroidered tees - with the satin bow, flowers, or sequined split neck (forgive me for not looking up official names) were reduced from 45.00 to 29.99 that day.

I will still shop the catalog for some things in my size (I wear 14 blouse/cami's, which are rarely in the store).

    Great topics today, Alexis! Thanks.

  13. I got the educator's discount on a phone order I placed last night...for a presale item as well has 2 full priced items.

I have decided to wait on two items in the sale section for a bigger markdown as there are plenty in stock.

  14. Jen G.

Yes, I am more selective now to with my purchases where before I would just go ahead....I had 10 things in my shopping bag for over 3 weeks now and yesterday I had a long hard think about the items and purchased 4 of them...the ones I truly could not live without!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I didn't really notice very many new items added to the sale section. I would like to see more of the sweaters go on sale, or at least promo. I have to order most of my items b/c my size is rarely in the store, but now I ALWAYS order from the red phone. Luckily there is a B&M 2 blocks from my office so I just stop in on a lunch break or on my way home. They honor my student discount over the red phone.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I checked online and I didn't really notice very many new items in the sale section. I was hoping that they would have some more cardi's on sale. I will probably go to a local B&M tomorrow and check out the sales.

  17. Oh, how it breaks my heart to be overseas and to only be able to shop online. :( I fondly remember the days of 40 and 50 percent off, of getting tips from my informative store associates, of not having to pay for shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The sale items are fairly boring. J. Crew should put some really good stuff in there every couple of weeks for just a short time. They would move a lot more merchandise that way!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does anyone else here get ShopItToMe.com emails? I have J.Crew selected as one of my retailers and it emails me everyday (though you can change it to less often) what's newly put on sale in my size. That way you don't have to check back everyday. The info comes to you!

  20. vivi,

I am in the same boat...been overseas for 1 1/2 year but only 6 more months to go and back to the good ole USA:)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am also not very interested in the sale section, especially after hearing some shoppers' experiences with not being able to return sale items, even though on the website they were not listed final sale. I prefer to browse through my local store where I can try items on and the deals seem to be better (although it's always packed with 18 year olds and their mothers).

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree Alexis...the deals are much better at the stores. But taking a toddler takes all the joy out of shopping for me. So I rely on online shopping. But for the past 2 months, I find myself holding back. I just dont feel like paying more than what I know is currently being offered at the stores. So unless they have a great sale online sometime soon, I am refraining.

OT, did anyone else receive an invite to the holiday designs rollout on November 11 at their Madison ave store???? If so, and you plan to go...would love to hear all about it. It promises to be an evening of champagne and fashion with JL.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Holding out for a big online extra percent off...

Otherwise, I am bored with the same old same old.

I find some of the new pieces "nice" but there is only one collection piece that I have my eye on for now. I would rather just get one great piece then spend my money on just "nice".

The store deals are so much better. Oh how I wish I had a store.

I am hoping that people post about store deals and then maybe I will call a store and order that way.

  24. New items? The mens section has the same ugly shorts they have had on there for the past two months. Also... summer clothing hardly constitutes a FALL sale, IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anon @ 1:01:

I absolutely agree with your assessment of the Carnaval enamel necklace. There are no photos online to accurately show the scale of the tiles, and they appear to be rather small - when, in person, they're large and chunky and (in my opinion) rather junky/cheap looking. Unfortunately, I bought mine on Final Sale, so I'm stuck with it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I too have given up in the website. It just isn't the same any more. Many images don't come up, when an item says more colors available, there aren't when you click through. Is any one else frustrated? Other weird things happen too. I like the old website better

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm just waiting for the extra 30% off sale merchandise to come back online! The stores in my area never have what I want unless it's regular price, and even then, not always (it's Manhattan so that kind of figures) and the stores genuinely seem put off when I want to place orders on their red phone. Just last night I was on the red phone for over an hour trying to place an 11 item order to get the extra 30% off my sale items and it was a hassle and a half, and then I had to complain today via email because they charged me $18.50 shipping even though over $400 of what I purchased was full price but sold out in-store. There are several more items I want today but I'm not going through that hassle again, I'd rather wait for the online promo. As for what everyone is saying about getting better deals in-store, I have not once seen an item marked down lower than it was on the website! The only difference is the 30% promos. I really must live in the wrong city! (And to think J.Crew was born right downtown...)

    ReplyDelete
  28. On the subject of jewelry, I actually got a cute necklace similar to the glass-bead ribbon necklace at Target for $16.99.

www.target.com - search "Merona® Ribbon Wrapped Faux Pearl Black Necklace - 24". Actually, if you just search Merona necklaces they have some really cute stuff, especially if you just want to dress up an outfit cheaply and are not looking for an "heirloom", as JC puts it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I haven't even looked at the sale stuff lately let alone order anything. I feel like the same stuff has been on there forever and the prices haven't seemed to have dropped at all.

My stores really aren't even inspiring me at the moment either. Most of the stuff I'm interested in are catalog/on-line only. Unless a serious cashmere or boots promo comes along, I don't see myself buying much.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just wanted to add that I know a lot of people are upset that they don't live near a b&m but honestly the sale sections at my stores aren't that great. They always seem picked over and only have either very small or very large sizes left or half a rail of something that I don't like. So, while I agree that it is unfair that something online is on sale and at the B&M is 40% off that sale price, if the sale section sucks then I'd rather go home and order something I actually want that's in my size online!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Help! what's all this about not honoring the educator discount online anymore?

I just got one about two weeks ago on the Maggie. I emailed after the order.

Does anyone have any news about this?

    ReplyDelete
  32. OT-
Am I wrong that we do not receive free shipping when we used the Oct sale 20% off coupon?
    OTT
Does anyone desire the Sparkle tweed Pencil Skirt sz 2 for $145 shipped (my cost $129.99 with tax $9.48 and $5 S/H.) Just trying to recoup exact losses. Let me know:)

  33. I spoke with a J. Crew associate yesterday in the store and he said they would be doing another series of price cuts this coming Wednesday!

Just thought you all might like to know. I definitely have my eye on a few items, although I agree with Anonymous at 1:26 that the sale is starting to feel pretty stale....

    ReplyDelete
  34. becca, thanks for the heads up about Wednesday's upcoming price cuts! In that care, I'll wait too. Personally, I'm also kind of tired of most of the sale stuff because I've either picked it over online or cleaned out the store's sale section. I would, however, love to see some of the new stuff get marked down (not including coats which I just got a fab deal on!).

    ReplyDelete
  35. Are Wednesday's price cuts in-store or online? Does anyone know if they will be final sale merchandise or promo sales? I have quite a few things on my list. I have been waiting for the Emerson blouse to go on sale. That is first on my list!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree the in-store sale prices are much better!

By the way, did anyone notice Ugly Betty wearing the Astrid Jacket in blue on last night's episode? I've also been spotting a lot of J Crew pieces on the show, Privileged. J Crew seems to be popping up everywhere lately!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Does anyone know:

If you have a personal shopper, can you call or email them, and have them order over the red phone for you?

I am close to the store, and don't have a PS. I just want a pair of Favorite Fit chinos-that's all I want right now, and while I'll pay fp, I refuse to pay 11.00 for shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Let me revise offer...
Sparkle Tweed Pencil skirt sz 2
Someone want it for $138 shipped. I will eat shipping and some tax for what it would cost to list. Thx!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I echo comments that the B&M sales aren't that much better than online...at least not in my store. I am also so tired of seeing the same selection in what is now called the *Fall* Sale. There are still a couple of items I would like to purchase, but not until the price is reduced further on them. I did pick up the Buttercup Belle Skirt in my store for $19 on Wednesday, and have already worn it...LOVE it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Nothing new on the mens' side. In fact it's been really picked over lately. Here hoping for some hot deals in the upcoming weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I actually was able to use my student discount on an online order this past week. I can't imagine the educator's discount would be any different, so I'm pretty sure it still applies if you ask.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I check the sale for men's items everyday and I don't see anything new.

    what's up?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I also haven't been checking the website as much lately. Like many have said, the sale section has been kind of stale, with the same items for the same price for a long time. Sometimes, I miss the rush of catching a really great deal ... definitely seems like a lot of things are not priced to move. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. silver_lining - I looked at the Merona necklace online. That's really pretty! It seems that Target made a big shift w/the Merona line. I bought 1 or 2 dresses yesterday. I will blog on them later tonite or tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  45. boston_brit, I have the same experience. There is only store in my city, it's small and they don't get a lot of the merchandise that the bigger stores get. As a result the sale section is small and meager. Every so often I find something but in general I try to find things on sale in other cities and have them shipped to me. I got the sketchbook roses skirt on Thursday for example. It's $99 on the website sale page and I got it for $59. Even with the shipping charge, I'm saving money. And my store never carried it so I couldn't have purchased it locally. Luckily an Aficionada told me their store had it and all I had to do was call!

    ReplyDelete
  46. desert flower - was the sketchbook cheaper than 59? Or did it total that after the discounts. TIA

    ReplyDelete
  47. With 3 large bags of clothes waiting to be dropped off at Goodwill, I had to stop buying items that are "kind of cute" and "on great sale". JCrew sale section isn't tempting at all, I echo the sentiments of others-if I bought anything right now it would end up in a bag next year (nothing is too extraordinary, they have had same shorts/skirts for months on sale....)

I decided to buy only those items that I absolutely LOVE (Tulip coat, puffer vest, cashmere hoodie-things that will last me for a long time and that I will wear with great enthusiasm).

Oh, and also: the JCrew pique pants I bought a month ago and wore at home 2-3 times so far have a hole in the back now. I am not a careless person, I didn't rip them. Things like this make me a really sour shopper (GAP items never had issues like that)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've been eyeing the cashmere Martine cardigan since it appeared in the sale section. However, it seems to be there week after week. It makes me wonder why no one has snatched it up, especially at $59.00. Does anyone have this cardigan? How does it fit?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm definitely waiting for the holidays. No more spending.

    ReplyDelete
  50. You are all so lucky. It is a rare event when I find good deals at the two stores I frequent (Fashion Valley in San Diego and Valley Fair in Santa Clara, and every so often Stanford in Palo Alto). The sale sections are pretty weak there and very limited shoe selections.

    ReplyDelete
  51. math teacher, the skirt was $99 at the B&M and they had an additional 40% so it was $59 after the discount. Good price for a skirt that was $140 just a week ago!

    ReplyDelete
  52. desert flower, thanks for the info.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I used my educator's discount online Oct. 15th. They wrote me back right away to say that they applied it. SO you should be okay!

I hate how, when I sort items by price in the sale section, strange items from other categories appear. Like, swimsuits in the blazer category. Is this happening to anyone else?

I miss the old sale section. Though my bank account is happy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Cashmere Martine runs TTS and is somewhat boxy. The shank button at the collar is heavy so its tricky to wear the sweater unbuttoned. I purchased the grey with green trim. The green is really fluorescent lime. I really liked the sweater when I got it, but could not figure out what to wear with it. Now that I have figured out how to wear it (and bought a couple of shirts to wear under it), I wish I had not purchased it--its just been too difficult!

    ReplyDelete
  55. How is wish my store had more deals. The staff is super un-friendly ( Palm Beach Gardens ) and I get a "look" every time I stop in and go to the sale section. I think some stores try very hard to sell full-price only. I get the cold shoulder when I inquire about online sale items or price matching. I wish web-site would be consistant with stores. I do think we have all been looking at the same stuff too long now. I feel like I already own it all because I keep seeing it. I too am scaling back with sale items, I just don't wear them enough to justify sparing closet space. I think i's best to stick to the favorites and wear them to death!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Does anyone have an opinion on the vintae cord tousers? How do they fit? Anyone have the color sea salt or ecru? They are online exclusive and I can't decide on those two colors. The phon reps were not much help either. I had to return the bootcut cords, they looked awful!

    ReplyDelete
  57. The sea salt color is wonderful. Go with that for color.....sorry can't be much help with fit unless you are 5'10" ??? Things just fit me different than the average person I have found...

I think a lot of people HAVE it! It is AWESOME and looks SO classy/classic with just a fitted white button front shirt. It was a collection piece and I personally think it is BEAUTIFUL--got it in two colors for a STEAL-HTH!
