J.Crew Wedding Collection: Sneak Peek to Spring '09

Brides.com posted an entry (click here) about J.Crew's upcoming wedding collection for Spring 2009. They also were nice to share some images of the new merchandise that will be available next year.

The silk sail cloth dress to the left looks a bit odd. At first, I couldn't tell if that was the front or back of the dress! (Thankfully, I figured it was the back-side by the mannequin's position.) I thought at first that those flowers should be to the front of the dress, but I guess I have to see more images of the dress to know if it works or not.

J.Crew will also be offering a ruffled satin clutch with a jewel top closure (shown in the image to the right). Again, at first look this purse looks a bit odd. Dare I say this, but the purse might have "ruffle overload". ;)

Lastly, Brides.com was able to show us a "dusty pink, pleated satin tote" (the one in the image to the left) that I *hope* is still being worked on. That pink tote does not look like it has been finished. In fact, what is going on to the left of that tote... (it's not quite a bow, its not quite a ruffle)? ;)

What are your thoughts on these three items that will be available in J.Crew's Spring collection? Do you like or dislike any of the items? Which items are you looking forward to seeing? :)

  1. I think the dress looks gorgeous...looks like a satin calalily on the back?

The bags do look a little odd though.

  2. I wish J Crew was doing Wedding gowns when I got married :( They are so simple, classic, and gorgeous! I really like the clutch too. The pink looking bag must be for bridesmaids?

  3. The dress is quite classy and chic. I agree that the clutch is "ruffle overload". The tote looks oddly shaped. I wish J Crew would make a beaded clutch that looks as elegant as their Lux beaded sash belt.

  4. I have to say that I love both the dress and bag, Alexis. I would have to see them in person to be sure, but they both have a very organic feel to them. Not overly refined, but very genuine and simple, but elegant. (I know simple might be an odd description for such a heavily ruffled bag, but the ruffles themselves have a very unfussy look, almost like fabric that was puddled onto the floor and allowed to form a natural pattern. Or maybe I just need to take out my contact lenses and go to sleep!)

  5. against my better judgement, i'm weirdly attracted to the clutch. and i wish we could see the front of the dress! i do like the lily detailing, although it is strange that it's at the back.

  6. The dress might work if it's the right fabric & drapes well- "calla lily" would be a lovely impression. "Had too many pre-wedding mimosas & forgot to button up" would not!

As for the bow/ruffle? thing, let's just call it a "buffle"...I for one will be giving it a miss;)

Hope you're not gone too long Alexis. Just disable anonymous posting & get back to doing what you do. This is a great blog & you do a great job sharing your enthusiasm.

  9. All three pictured are beautiful. I adore that pale pink they've been using lately. I'd get both of the clutches as is. Love the ruffles and fabric!

  10. I love the dress and I even like the satin tote - the clutch I would pass on.

  11. I got married a few weeks ago, and I was a J.Crew bride! I loved my dress (I wore the Gracie gown)! I still love checking back every so often to see what new things they come up with!

  12. I love the satin clutch on the bottom, mainly because of that gorgeous pink color. I hope they carry that throughout the entire collection.

  13. Too bad we only get married once (some of us anyway...)!

  14. Love the dress, it would have clashed with my wedding because I carried Callas, but I like it. Like the ruffles. Hate the tote, looks like something I made back in Home Ec class, and I sucked at sewing. A big old satin mess of fabric.

  15. Love the dress and the bags! Although I must admit that I thought the pink one was a clutch at first, and upon realizing that it's actually a tote I'm not sure how I feel about it...

  16. The bag looks like something that I truly haven't seen before, which is always added points. LOVED this post!!

  17. I wanted to be a J Crew bride but sadly their dresses tend to be made for less well endowed women, I had to return my 'dream' dress. They just don't flatter a large chest.

  18. oh i didn't see the last one was a tote. that actually makes me like it more

  19. tina m: I agreee -- J Crew's dresses seem to fit B/C cups best. My wife and I were both married in J Crew gowns a couple weeks ago -- she's an F cup and often doesn't fit into most J Crew tops/jackets/coats. The silk linen tussah rose gown (item 93753) fit her really well on top and she had it taken in at the waist/hips and then wore a good-fitting bustier underneath. Here are a couple pictures:

She definitely couldn't have fit, in any size, into the crepe mimi t-shirt gown that I wore - it is so perfect for lesser-endowed women like me!

  20. i think that their wedding dresses fit LESS than B/C... more like A/B or no chest at all.
I am a C cup and those wedding dresses were not good for my cup size. sadly i had to go with not a jcrew gown... however my pronovius had swiss dots all over it and made me think of something jcrew would have done... and my bridesmaids were in jcrew!

  21. I just love the architectural structure of that dress. It is so stunning, and that little hit of femininity with the flower makes it all come together. I also really like the clutch. In black it would be a definite purchase for me. The tote I could leave, but I love the asymetrical bow and would like it as a clutch.

Leanne - I think that Mimi dress is so great! Totally Kate H. Awesome choice! I was just wishing it came in black for a ball I have coming up.

  22. leanne - you both look beautiful!

  23. I have a question about jcrew bridesmaids dresses. I ordered claudine tank size 2, which I normally get. My problem is that my torso is short even though I am 5'5''. I never get petit, but then when I get a dress, I always need straps shortened, otherwise a half of my bra is showing. I am thinking maybe i should order petit? But then what size? Is it 2 petit or 4 petit? How much shorter would the dress be then?

I would really appreciate your help with this, gals, since it seems like there might be some extensive alternations on 2 regular and I am not sure how much it would run in NYC.

    TIA!

  24. I thought the dress is very unusual and quite elegant. I wish they make a party dress like that in a jewel tone. But it probably looks best on skinny women.
