On Madison Ave... J.Crew Collection Store Now Open!

A big "thank you!" to Cass and Anonymous at 4:21 AM (in this post) who shared with us that J.Crew's Collection Store is now OPEN! The store is located on 1035 Madison Avenue at 79th Street (in NYC).

J.Crew seems to have quietly announced this on their website. On the main home page, with the "If you only knew" picks, there is a small announcement on the upper right hand corner.
I am very excited to see that this store is finally open. I will definitely visit sometime in November (and I will take pictures too!)

Are you excited that the J.Crew Collection Store is now open? Will you visit this store (if you are in the NYC area)? If you do visit the store, please let us know more about it! :)

  1. I would definitely visit the store if I lived in the area. :) Have fun Alexis...can't wait to see your photos!

  2. OT OPINIONS-
Peacoat WITH Thinsulate or without? Does it make that big a difference and does anyone know if it effects size with or without?

Tried on black small with thinsulate at store and it fit but want to order color--worth the extra $

    I live in the midwest-thanks!

  3. covert, I guess it depends on where you live and your cold tolerance,of course, but I highly recommend thinsulate. I have two J. Crew coats with thinsulate and one without, and the latter is really limited to a fall coat for me.

I only have a couple of collection items but would love to see the store.

  4. I am interested to see if you can take pictures. Back when I was working in retail, our store didn't let customers do that (high end store on Michigan Ave in Chicago.) Would love to see them if you could, though!

  5. I can't wait to visit! I was thinking of driving in Monday and spending the day in Central Park with my son. How could I possibly not stop when I was so close??? That is the excuse I am planning for the DH. Think it will work?

  6. OT - I just received a crewcuts email that said, "don't miss out...it's the last week of our final sale"

  7. OT - Does anyone know how the cashmere argyle vest 96130 fits, is it from a previous season?

  8. anon @ 9:30: Is it the one with the bow? If it is, I sized down and it fits perfectly. I am normally a medium in sweaters and the small worked for me. I ordered down the on the recommendation of kater and she was right.

sarah: I hope that's true! I wonder since it's a crewcuts email, if the final sale is only going to go away for the kids clothes?

  9. math teacher: i thought of that, but i hope it's across the board! this endless final sale is ridiculous. i can't even remember when it wasn't final sale!

  10. I agree, it's been final sale for what feels like forever! Honestly, does anyone know how long it's been? Since July?

  11. Thank you very much math_teacher - I just ordered the XS in yellow - sizing down, as you've recommended. It looks so nice in the photo, I can't wait to get it.

  12. anon, I hope you like it as much as I do. It looks cute with a short sleeve tee and a button up. :)

  13. I have the Cotton-silk lawn twisted-placket shirt in Ivory, I think maybe the one the model is wearing in the picture, I thought of wearing the vest with it - not very original of me, but I guess you confirmed that it looks good together. Thanks again.

  14. Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadian bloggers! Despite the change in the value of our dollar, shopping JCrew is still on my list of things to do this long weekend.

  15. covert5 - I live in Chicago, and I saw WITH the thinsulate. It makes a big difference on those 10 degree days.

also, I put this in the 20% PS page, but the Italian boucle skirt in honey glaze is on the FS page in size 4, which you were looking for!!!

  16. OMG--kitschy7
I just got back home and saw this! Now only have size 10! I swear--it's like it's haunting me:) I feel like I am going to have to buy it off of someone who gets it for me at this point-LOL! I am so mad I keep missing out:(

  17. Meant to add--I have the vest in the grey and it is too big. Another FS item that I am bummed I didn't realize ran SO BIG! I needed xsmall. Anyone need to trade the cashmere vest or need to buy a small?? It is grey with fine yellow line and white-SO DARN SOFT and STYLISH:)

Thanks to those that made recommendations on the peacoat too-appreciate it!

  18. If you aren't too busty and wear a typically sz 8 (I mean at most other store--not J Crew's up-sizing) and maybe a small 10 then go get the Cliffrose print Dylan tank under shirts and tops in the sale section--the price is down to $50-less than last week at $70 plus get addl. savings right now. This shirt is TDF--SO GORGEOUS! I got a 4 and usually get a sz 2 in J Crew (these type tops-hammered silk etc) but if I was just a little less busty it would have fit! GO GET IT!

  19. Amelia tank owners - I find the inner strip of additional fabric at the bustline extremely itchy - anybody ventured to remove it? Any other ideas? thanks.

  20. OT-
Can I just add that I just read the OSLO handbag at $425 is UNLINED (has one interior snap out zip pocket)like a tote bag!! That is RIDICULOUS--Sorry J Crew you screwed up on this one--it is a HANDBAG not a TOTE! SO weird and disappointing--I was really eyeing that one:(

  21. I live on 82nd and Park...heading to the new store right now...will report back in a bit :) My only question is will they have a red phone? Will they have final sale for collection items? Will they take back my internet returns? If not, I don't know how interested I will be in window shopping and not being able to use the store the way I would like too. Granted I do have some collection pieces but I MUCH prefer great FS deals for my wardrobe. Also, will private sale offers be good at this store? It would not surprise me if they did something snobby like not take coupons!! All I wanted was a normal J Crew by my house (and by house I mean super tiny apartment), is that too much to ask?

  22. What about the thinsulate in the plaza coat? I have been thinking about replacing my winter coat for the last two years and finally decided to take the plunge. Now I'm wondering if maybe I should have ordered it with thinsulate?

And as for the sales associate on the phone, she didn't even ask if I wanted it, but she managed to find time to ask if I wanted patent leather flats to match my coat or a J.Crew card! I was surprised, as that is the first time I've ever had an associate on the phone try to upsell me. And, frustratingly, she misheard everything I said, so I spent forever on the phone with her while she made me do things like repeat my credit card number six times for all the patrons of the store. And with all that, she still got my name wrong. :(

And to go back to that, is it wrong to be (slightly) paranoid about that? Over the phone, they do ask you your CCN= number, your expiration date and your security code. Any unscrupulous person can listen in on all that and call in orders just like you're doing. So I didn't really like having to say it that many times in a store. Usually I say, "My number is on file" and they can find it that way. I suppose you're trusting the website at that point but I still find some comfort in not giving all the information out loud.

  25. Alexis-were you able to get a copy of the new catalog? I'm excited to see!

  26. ceecee:Unfortunately, I haven't received any images of the new catalog yet. I also don't have a copy of the catalog yet. However, I will post the catalog as soon as I receive it (either through a member of the blog or if I get a hard copy).

Also, if anyone is interested in sending me scans of the new catalog (even just a few pages), my email is jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com. :) Thank you so much in advance- I really appreciate it too! :)

  27. My store honored the 20%off sale and the 20% off $175 total. And online did the same so I would say the guy in NJ-a MGR of all people-was definitely being a PITA. The mgr at my store actually confirmed how it was done for the cashier so I believe it to be something that should be honored storewide...sorry you had to go through that:(

  28. this will be brief bc I am posting from my iPhone. I will comment more later :) The store is very small with light wood floors. There is no sign, just j crew written in cursive on the door. It's a totally different feel than other stores but that's what they were going for. My honest opinion? The clothes were the same. Nothing the rock store doesn't have really. Maybe a few more bags and a lady day coat. The one thing that sold me, THEY HAVE THE RINGSPUN ROSE shirt in all colors/sizes!!!! Forget eBay for $150 call now! They let me use my student discount too. Btw the place was mobbed! Lots of high end shoppers in there. Enjoyed the trip but not worth the drive in for most. They also only had the old catalogue :( I really wanted to see the new one. Basically it was exactly what I expected, a new boutiqey store with the same j crew clothes.

  29. I just got back from my b&m, and they hadn't even seen the new catalog, just their look book. My sa did confirm lots of bows and ruffles, and lots of purple and red. My sister was able to use the both 20%'s without any problem, as long as she had 175 after the first extra 20. HTH

  30. Lindsay, did they have FS items?

  32. Anony@12:07 OMG...The Ameilia is so itchy on that part...Why is it there???? I haven't even worn my 2 b/c I don't know...I keep thinking I am going to just cut it out....either that or will have to buy this stuff called tag tamers that I saw on the Today show...you put it on tags that itch you on clothing if you don't want to cut out the tag....

  33. I just received my October 08 catalog today, and it's all items (and a lot of pictures) I've already seen. The old "If" section of the website is represented, along with pictures from the outerwear looks on the women's page, the weddings and parties looks on the homepage, and the handbags. Lots of black and white, and lots of items that are already on the FS page (ex: stretch vintage matchstick cords, luxe knit shirts, Lizzie driving mocs) and items that I thought had sold out (ex: floral pins, Italian boucle pencil skirt). And ironically, one page says "Introducing Fiona...fitted, ruffled and ready to wear," which I found funny because it's already on sale and this blog already has a review of it. The suiting section is also the same as last month's. Maybe there's another "new" catalogue coming out???

  34. I would def say get the thinsulate. I don't think that it makes much difference in the Spring, but boy oh boy when it gets cold in the winter you will be SO glad that you did! Also, I don't think that it changes the size at all (at least I haven't noticed any size change in my thinsulate vs no thinsulate coats).
