Last Day To Use Your Red Card

Well, it's almost over... the 25% off red card offer from J.Crew ends today. I quickly made a stop at a J.Crew yesterday to pick up the Crocodile Cocktail Jacket (Item 12154; was $168.00, now $99.99) in order to use the card (for the last time).

"Thanks!" to Marie Antoinette (in this post), who came up with a great question: "Did you get more use out of this one or the one in December?" I have to say that I definitely shopped a lot less this time around. There didn't seem to be that many additional percent off sales, or sales in general, for me to go crazy with the red card (like I did back in the Winter). ;)

Are you planning to use your red card today? What items did you get with the red card this time around? Did you spend more or less than the first red card offer (from Winter '08)? :)

Quick Poll: Did you spend more with J.Crew's Red Card this time around (versus the one in the Winter)?

  1. I used it earlier in the month, but realized it is still in my wallet so I'm heading to the Newport, RI store today!

  3. I agree with Anony@7:49 I did not use mine at all. Just b/c I have 25% off (not that great of deal really) doesn't mean I am going to go spend money randomly that I otherwise would not have normally spent.

Yes, there are some cute things but nothing I have to have or cannot wait for a bigger sale.

I actually did better with the 30% off final sale and using my educator's discount of 15% off earlier this month.

  4. I've used the latest card only because I didn't get the last one! Geez, compared to what I bought fall/ winter last year, this spring has been relatively minimal. so far I've used the card on only a handful of things like a new blazer for DH and a couple tees for me. I still see better things online since my b&m sold out of the library cardis before the sale got good enough for me to need one!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I didn't use mine much (once for a belt and another time for a couple of headbands) because the store near me has really gone downhill. They no longer carry anything interesting. It is all tees, pants, and a couple of basic skirts, so I order online to get the things that I want such as the crocodile jacket that I snagged yesterday! (I hope it fits TTS.) So although the red card is really nice and I'm very happy to have gotten mine, it only works if you have a store that carries the items you want. :)

  6. i got a lot of great deals with the red card! i'm so sad to see it end! i didn't receive one last winter so it was fun to be a part of the hype this time around! :)

  7. I've used mine to buy items on the new spring rollout that may sell out before they go on sale. Since they weren't yet available in the stores yet, I called my PS and asked her to place the order for me via the store's red phone. She did, got me the 25% discount and free shipping, and I didn't even have to go in a B&M! So I ordered twice using the red card, once during the spring sale (also got free ship & 25% disc on sale items) and again with the May catalog.

    ReplyDelete
  8. How do you get free shipping on red phone sale orders? That is not allowed?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I spent more with the winter promo's than with this card. Funny thing is, I spent more on winter items in April than spring/summer items using a 20% off promo offered by JCrew because of their mistakes during jingle, hohoho, etc. I'm off to the b&m today to make some returns and to order some sandals using red card because my store does not have the sandals at their location.

Also, it's sooo funny how everything comes back to the website. I almost feel between the ghosts of clothes gone by haunting in and out of the website and ebay, it's almost impossible not to find what you want as some point.

    ReplyDelete
  10. IRL,
Yes, you are right. Just keep hunting and you will find. I still think it is best to wait for a sale. The sell out will return and you will save$
After all, it is just clothes!

  12. I used it 3 times, which is 3 times more than I used my card in December. It was bad timing getting the card in December. With Christmas shopping and the fact that I had already spent my clothing budget for the year (we start back over in Jan.) I wasn't able to get anything.

And for anyone contemplating the Esplanade skirt, here's a mini-review: I ordered the weathered stone color a while back, and just got it Monday since it was on backorder. I love the sun-washed swing skirts from last summer SO MUCH and the Esp. skirt looked pretty similar, which is why I was all about getting it.

Well, I do love it, but it is definitely different than the swing skirts. First of all, it's shorter, but only by about 3 inches. It hits at the knee or higher depending on how tall you are. Second, the material is a lot thinner than the swing skirt, but it is so soft and comfortable. it is NOT see-through either. The weathered stone color is gorgeous; i am already seeing myself get a ton of use out of it during the summer. There are pockets, but they are kind of awkwardly placed--more on the front of the skirt than the side. but I still love that there are pockets, period!

so bottom line, if you loved the swing skirts from last summer, you'll love this one as well. just don't be expecting them to be all that similar!

    ReplyDelete
  13. i used mine twice, but only once for myself thus far. i plan to stop on the way home from work today and see if there's anything i like. i have some returns anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I did not like the new swing skirt. That is fashion:)

I am tall--5'9" so the shorter length did not work for me. I own about 10 knit skirts from JCrew from 6 seasons and I do love them but not this one.

Good if you are shorter though.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I was excited to get one this time as I did not last time. However, nothing in the new line excited me that I already had not bought before getting the card. So I have not used it. One can only own so many graphic tees or embellished tees!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I used it WAY more this time...and here is why: I had no idea you could stack sale items with the 25% off and neither did the sales assistant I worked with back in December.

This time around, everyone knew to stack discounts and one time I even received the teacher discount on top off the 25%. :) Very nice and unexpected.

Last night Drewablank and I met for J. Crew shopping and dinner. Awesome times and both of us scored some great deals.

My two favorites from last night? The magnolia necklace and the Pietra jeweled capri sandals. The magnolia necklace was not even carried by the store but in some nice twist of fate, it had been returned yesterday afternoon. On top of that, there was one other person who asked about it AFTER I did. I ended up buying it and getting it for 33 dollars. GORGEOUS necklace. Looks like it is a good length and based on its overall appearance it seems versatile, too. The capri sandals were discounted to 75 (from 98), so with the 25% discount, they ended up being 55. Awesome price for such beautiful sandals. (They may be the prettiest sandals I have ever owned.

I will probably put together a polyvore of the things I bought last night, plus the prices paid. :)

I wonder if the "Mickey" card will make an appearance in late summer for the early fall stuff. Hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I was actually surprised by my own response to getting the red card! I thought I'd go crazy and buy up everything in the store, but I was actually quite tame. I only bought three items: (1) fireball necklace, (2) floral beach coverup, and (3) striped mini skirt. So all in all I actually did quite well :) Hopefully another "red card" will come out later...but hopefully not during my self-imposed shopping ban (it's Day 2!)

  18. Those of you who have tried on the harbour oxford capris:: Are they worth it? I feel like I should use the card, as it is the last day, and there are only "36" left in my size, so Im doubting they will go on further sale. I also have the summer rewards card, but not sure if I should hold out for something new or that I "love"..

    Thanks ladies!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. kendra,
Don't panic. They will likely make it to sale. There are about 10 items I paniced on when they got down to 20 and all of them on in the sale section in my size....I could have saved a bundle!

    ReplyDelete
  20. How do you know how much inventory JC has?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haha, awesome Alexis.

I thought of the topic because I actually only used this red card once. I think I used the one in December six or seven times. But this spring collection has just left me uninspired. I hope my lack of using this red card, though, doesn't mean that I won't get one the next time around ....

    ReplyDelete
  22. I bought the Carina metallic T-strap flats, item 15791, in both silver and gold. It's the crackly style leather. The silver is pretty and shinier irl than the photo. The gold is, in my opinion, too 'GOLD'. I like the matte colors better (the color of the backside of the crackled leather would be perfect).

One word of warning, the leather piece between the toes will probably create blisters until broken in. The strap is horizontal between the toes all the way into the shoe, not twisted or narrower at the shoe bed like most thong sandals.

I thought I'd love these in silver and impulsively purchased both colors but they're just okay, especially knowing they could end up hurting my toes at first. The sole is man made, and I guess the footbeds are leather as stated in the description. Can't really tell because they're silver and gold too. I'd maybe be enticed by the silver if they're on sale.

  23. I spent more, for similar reasons to AppGal. In December, I was doing more Xmas shopping and that's where a lot of the shopping time/energy went. But I feel like I got some great deals and things that I will have for a while. Plus all the Aficionada influence has shifted a much higher percentage of my purchasing to JC. (thanks to all you fab JCAs!)

    ReplyDelete
  24. AppGal: how tight is the elasticized waist? Did you order your regular size? Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Inventory check: just type in any number up to 99...there could be more but that is the maximum you can check online

    ReplyDelete
  26. How do you get the "Red Card"?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think I actually used the Red Card less this time, but did still get some really great deals on items I've been waiting for, as well as a few basics. I was in my J.Crew last night to see the new arrivals and use the Red Card one last time. There are numerous pieces I think are really cute, but none that I felt the *need* to get, even with the Red Card discount. I was told more new items are due to arrive in about 2 weeks. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Btw...I stopped into Gap and they were having 25% off of sale items, and you didn't have to have any kind of card to get the disount. I think the sale is good through today, although if you are considering a trip there I would call ahead to make sure.

    ReplyDelete
  29. IRL: Yep, I got my regular size for bottoms, a small, and it fits perfectly. The waist is not tight at all. It doesn't really feel elasticized...it's a wide band that you can sit lower on the hips if you want it to hit at a lower point. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I used it less since they didn't let us combine it with an sale % off (whereas in December I went nuts with the stacking) - but then I again I can return anything for 2 months so that's nice

    Corsage Tees breeze, navy, natural
    Rattan Clutch
    Rosette tee in white

    Magazine Canvas Tote
    Grosgrain Flip Flops
Patent Leather Double Wrap Belt spearmint
    Marquise Sash belt in buttercup

and yesterday for the last hurrah I found an *Atelier Mineral Grey jacket* sz0 for $89 before red card and a *Navy cotton-linen Aubrey* sz0 for $29! Atelier is really really cute in that color! It's channeling a more sturdy Frenchie collar. : )

    ReplyDelete
  31. I fell for it and ended up spending so much more because of this card! Not to mention the extra 20% off code that became available online a few days ago! Lots of cute cardigans and jackets!

    ReplyDelete
  32. oh and I bought quickly without trying on the cotton cashmere Waterfall cardi in pewter that was on sale in my size - does anyone have this? reviews/opinions?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Speaking of red card, guilty as charged!

Slightly OT, but anyone cares to share shopping experience at the Madison Ave Collection store in New York?

They completely brushed me off in my recent phone call concerning a collection jacket, telling me they don't carry it while on the website it clears says only that store has the stock. When I insisted to give the SA the item#, she pretended not to get it right (by leaving out one digit). I mean, talk about snootiness.

Just a not-so-pleasant experience in the annals of JC shopping. Of course my wallet will thank me for being snubbed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Alexis, why doesn't your poll have a choice for "DIDN'T GET ONE"!!!
This whole thread is just too painful to read! OUCH!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Kendra--I bought the Harbour capris with my red card, and I love them. They are the same length and tapered cut as the Cafe capris, but looser and more relaxed overall. I got my regular size, and they fit comfortably without being too tight or loose. The blue is a very pretty, wearable blue....looks so crisp and pretty with white or navy, and the khaki is a linen-ey color. The cuff make them a little dressy.

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I used mine for a couple tees before they sold out in the colors I wanted, 2 hoodies in charcoal and black, the Boyfriend Military jacket in grey (which I LOVE, I have a worn it a gazillion times already!!), the Crocodile Jacket ( Which I just re bought yesterday for $40 less than I paid for it with the red card)some capris, and the ruffle swirl top, which is going back. I bought it in the melon color and changed my mind, I want it in white.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anon at 10:39: Thanks!!

Do you find the cuffs very pronounced? I am usually not a fan of cuffs on pants (at least not on my body), and am wary of that.

Also, does anyone know if you purchase an item with the Rewards Card and you later return it, will you be refunded the amount of the rewards card??

    Thanks!!

    : )

    ReplyDelete
  38. PS- I'm excited for the new markdowns that will most likely take place after the Red Card and 20% promo are done tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kendra, I'm not a cuff person at all , and the cuffs don't bother me. I wouldn't call them pronounced. I am 5' 10", so I suppose it would be possible for a shorter person to have a tailor cut them off, but I actually sort of like them. 10:39

  40. britjohnsal--
JCrew randomly sends them out to their "best" customers...their wording...not mine

If you don't get one you can always call CS and ask for one directly as others on this blog did...

  41. My shopping ban--limited to JCRew only--was this month so I did not use my red card. Overall, it wasn't that great of deal compared to other merchants sales and free shipping/stackable codes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I decided to use it on this last day for the Gladiola jacket. It is flying out the doors and selling fast online. That is one not to wait for a sale on! Wow. A couple of days ago there were a lot in my sizes. Now a few sizes are already gone.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Has anyone tried the Gorgeous Cotton Trouser? If so, what color is Mist? Is it a heavy or midweight cotton? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Alexis-How about creating a post on summer shoes? There are so many to choose from, including JCrew and other stores. I'm wondering what everyone else will be wearing with their shorts, casual skirts, etc. I would love some recommendations on stylish sandals from fellow JCA's!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I got four boyfriend v neck tees, two polos, two french terry cardigans, a perfect button down shirt, and two Michelle merino cardis with the red card. I definitely ordered much more online with the extra % off sales over the past several months... I think I'm done for awhile!

    ReplyDelete
  46. NYC area JCAs - has anyone been to B&Ms lately and could comment on which locations have the best overall selection right now? I'm headed to a store tonight for the last day of the red card but will only have time to go to one store.
    Thanks in advance:)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous: Thanks! I will do that! I am new to this blog, and I need all the discounts I can get!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I used the red card about 10 times! I made some purchases at the B&M nd 3 red phone orders for things they didn't have and some sale stuff. I got some good deals. I was able to get the heirloom henley from last winter for $89 with free shipping. I also purchased a few basics like chino shorts, jeans and boyfriend khakis. I splurged on the grecian goddess dress (love it), the summer short sleeve argyle cardi, cotton ruffle cashmere cardi, a painter henley in persimmon and a ruffle v neck tee.

Now that the red card is expiring, I'm going on a J Crew diet!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Does anyone know where I can find a crocodile cocktail jacket? sz 0-2

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I wish I could got this 25% off card in X'mas time, which would have bee more valuable, rather than Spring.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I didn't get the one in December. :( I used this one but didn't buy any more than I normally do and still only used it on sale stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I got the grenada palm cami with the promo. It is thin silk but gorgeous IMO! That is my one and only purchase this month.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I bought alot more online since I've had my red card than I have in the stores. I really wish I could have used it for all those online orders! The problem is they don't carry tall sizes in the stores, and most of the stuff I end up buying that isn't tall is catalog/jcrew.com only, or old stuff from the fall that pops up. I never buy new arrivals and things that aren't on sale.

Things I did buy with it:
Slub fresco mini (does anyone have this and have suggestions for what to wear with it?)
    Cafe Capris in warm blush
    Kelly shirt in light pewter
A bunch of socks that were marked down to $2.99
The patent leather jeans belt in the gray color

    Nothing very exciting!

Things I bought online included penelope flats and 2 double serge pencil skirts... much more exciting!

OT but does anyone in the Cleveland area ever go to the Crocker Park JCrew? I'm contemplating a trip there this afternoon...

    ReplyDelete
  54. I used it earlier this month and last night... I bought the Washed ruffle-collar trench for $99.99 + 25% off, few tissue thin cardigans and the Pleated lawn skirts were marked down to $39.99 so I bought few of those with 25% off coupon.

I also bought few polo shirts. They were marked down to $19.99 so I picked them up for about $15 with the coupon.

I might go back to a different location tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sherbie:

The one on lower fifth near Union Sq is where I found more 'new arrivals' last week although I frequent the three midtown B&Ms. As for sales, it's all hit or miss.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I didn't get the red card during December, so I took the advantage this time. I normally shop online, and because of this card, I went to B&M tripple times this month and bought some of cardigans which were on sale. I love the fact that I can use it with the sale item. However, I would be shopped more if I can combine it with student discount (since online I can do it on top of the extra sale).

I might go out and check my local B&M today, even though I know that I will not get anything.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anon @ 1:17 - thanks for the info about the 5th ave store. Was trying to decide between that one and Columbus Circle.
    Thanks again

    ReplyDelete
  58. Can someone describe the color bronzed twig? I am looking at the double serge cotton pencil skirt online and wondering how the color is IRL compared to the wool version or the cotton one with a bow. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I used my red card more this time around then back in Dec for the same reason that AppGal & HeidiG listed.
    Bought:
    Twisted crystal necklace- $32
    City cafe capri- $16
    Saturday pant- $30
    Portland cardi- $16
    Rosette tee- $36

Saturday pants may go back to the B&M. Not crazy about them.

I am planning on placing a large order with the 20% off promo today and then no more Crew for 30 days!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Forgot to mention this, has anyone recieved a call from their PS about some new promo called Shop & Share? My PS left me a voice mail about it. It's called Shop & Share and basically you bring in 3 friends and they get 25% off if they each spend $125 or more and you get 20% off your purchase. I can't rember if someone already posted about this.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Does anyone know how JCrew does their online inventory? I placed an order on 4/26 (before the 20% off sale). As of two days ago, all of the pieces were still on sale on the website. However, my order is still listed as "open" and hasn't shipped yet, which seems like a long time compared to my past orders. Also, this morning the status of one of my shirts changed to "cancelled." I know it was still on sale days after I placed my order. Do they fulfill orders on a first-come first-sever basis? I'm a bit annoyed the shirt was cancelled, and worried about the rest of my order! I also hope it ships soon, I'm getting impatient. :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. I used that red card a LOT, I must confess. I did not buy many spring items, but stocked up on staples and crewcuts on sale. The fact that I could use it over the phone definitely made me buy more.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Preppy Sue-
Please report back. I'm near Newport.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I spent around $600+ with the red card. It was fun while it lasted. I liked that it coincided with many markdowns. And at the very beginning, I was able to combine it with my student discount.

    ReplyDelete
  65. O/T--warning to anyone buying the Delfine skirt without seeing it IRL--the stripes are fluorescent pink, not orange. Mine is going back.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Quick question for those with the crocodile cocktail jacket since it seems like quite a few of us snagged it once it went on sale. (I personally had been stalking it since it came out.) Does it run TTS? I am consistently the same size in all jackets and outerwear because of my wide shoulders, but the faille maisey that arrived in my order today was HUGE around the body. I'm sad too because I had snagged one in the dark charcoal color. Anyways, now I'm really worried about the crocodile and am wondering if I should order another in a size smaller. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  67. My J. Crew would told me emphatically that I could not use my red card with a red phone order. I was physically in the store. I hated to go to every SA and ask the same question, so I just left.

I was planning on ordering the Gladiola Jacket.

I wish J. Crew were more consistant. If I am reading the comments correctly, many of you were able to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I definitely used this card more this time around.

Third time to use it last night, and it was wonderful because I got the chance to meet up and shop with dinagideon. It was refreshing to go shopping with someone who was just as avid and dare I say, fanatical, about J.Crew!

Items I was able to procure:

Soiree Sateen Jacket in spicy olive
Silk Habotai placket polos(in champagne and bright tulip - for $12.74 each after the Mickey card!)
Flora capri sandals in gold (an additional 25% off instore!)
    Tiered Ruffle Skirt
Wide Pearl Garden Bracelet (it was the last and only one they had instore!)

And it looks like I'll be making another trip to a B&M today, just to see what else I've missed. ;) (Call me obsessed.)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anybody live in central Ohio with a redcard? My fiancee and I are looking to buy a wedding dress and suit at J Crew (both on hold). I'd be happy to buy a beer or two for anyone who would like to give us an early wedding present. E-mail me at nemeth100@yahoo.com if are going to be heading to polaris area tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I've called twice about using my student discount with the extra 20% off sale and have been told no...checked with the supervisor, too. Is this the correct info? Has anyone else been able to use these two discounts together?

    ReplyDelete
  71. it's a southern thing -

Yes, I found the crocodile jacket to run pretty big (huge, actually). The shoulders fit only a little bigger than normal, but the body seemed about 2 sizes too big, even after accounting for the fact that it's a boxy style. I definitely advise sizing down, but probably not more than 1 size lower than normal, or else the shoulders might not fit. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  72. It was a nice surprise to find a box in my mailbox from J Crew - and I hadn't place an order that would FIT IN A MAILBOX. Read posts here months ago about gifts of bracelets, etc... Turned out to be a few little note cards and envelopes with a tote printed on them...cute - but was hoping for that bracelet!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I used the card last time for many Christmas gifts and my daughters/husband, as well as a few items for myself. This time around, was more aware of possibilites - like my PS ordering me things on the red phone and getting the 25% off items not available in my store - that was great! Last order placed today for some summer cashmere items and some sale items. Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sherbie:
I agree that the 5th Ave store would be your best bet. I ventured to a bunch with the red card and didn't have much luck except for at the 5th Ave store. Hope you find something!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I ordered my usual size in the crocodile cocktail jacket and it fits perfectly. If I had sized down NO WAY would it have fit in the shoulders.

    ReplyDelete
  76. P.S. the body did not seem big at all too me...it is a swing jacket.

I am 5'9 and thin so it was perfect on me in my usual size.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I swore up and down that I was done, but I couldn't resist and pulled the trigger on the tiered ruffle skirt, since it is on sale and over the last 2 days I watched the quantity in my size drop steadily. I would have to go 45 minutes to a b&m that has it, so instead of doing that I used the 20% code and combined it with the student discount. With shipping, it ends up being roughly the same as the red card. I swear I am done now!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I agree with the previous poster about the Delfine pencil skirt. The stripes are what my 6-year-old called "highlighter color" pink. Mine is going back as well. HUGE disappointment. The double serge cotton pencil skirt, on the other hand, is super nice. On the bag it came in the item name is "unlined cotton pencil skirt" and it is indeed unlined. However, the material is so thick that I doubt it would be see-through even in the lightest color. (I ordered the dark slate) HTH

    ReplyDelete
  79. Drewablank: How did the silk habotai placket polos fit? Are they TTS? I usually wear a small in perfect fit tees due to wide shoulders.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I used it a few times, but not as often as the earlier promo...mainly due to the fact that I love fall/winter from JC and I'm kind of "meh" with spring/summer...

    ReplyDelete
  81. Can anyone post an IRL pic of the Delphine skirt? I would love to see how the neon pink looks against the brown/gold. I'm so curious, even if it's awful.

    Thanks1

    ReplyDelete
  82. I went in again this week but my store is so small and they didn't have much new stuff. I was really disappointed. I love the striped pencil skirt and would have bought it but my store doesn't carry it! They don't get dresses or shoes or anything good so the in-store only discounts don't help me all that much. I envy you JCAs who live near the larger stores...

  84. I used mine twice - for the watercolor pencil skirt and a pair of the Danielle flat sandals. I went to my B&M yesterday to see if there was anything that I missed out on, but I was just so turned off by the quality for the prices that I just left.

If any JCA's have a Delfine in a 2 that they're planning on returning, I may be interested - I love hot pink! Wasn't interested when I thought it was orange. ;)

From what I gather, it's proved to be more the rule than the exception that you'd use your Mickey card on red phone orders.

  86. Hi - I am a loyal J Crew shopper. I've never blogged before but I really like this site. Sorry up front if I posted this in the wrong place. I typically buy everything online and usually have decent luck with the sizing. I just received the cotton military jacket this week - I ordered it awhile ago but was waitlisted. I was really excited to get it because I thought it looked great in the catalogue. I just wanted to let everyone know that it runs big. I bought a medium which is my normal size and it looks gigantic. I still will probably keep it because I think it is versatile. I might try washing it to see if I can shrink it a bit.

  87. I used mine much more this time around! Which shocks me to this day, because I was so "eh" about the whole spring rollout. The neutral palette isn't my first choice.

Today's scores from Woodfield Mall, IL:

Tissue tee with handcut applique, Avocado-ish color: $22.49
(This is a tee that Chloe rocked)

    Silk-habotai placket polo, Salmon: $11.24

    Slub Cotton Crossover V-Neck, White:$22.49

Michelle v-neck Cardigan, Key Lime and Pewter: $14.99 (I got these via the red phone)

All in all, I'm happy with my purchases. Especially the Michelle's. I love the "Chloe" top, but they only had smalls left, so that was sizing down by one size for me. So that's the only thing I need to determine if I can really make work. If anyone's interested, they had one small and one x-small left at the store.

  88. I didn't get the December red card, but I used this one much more than I would have thought! I ended up getting:

3 Michelle merino cardis (will return at least one); $22 each

Saturday pants in light pewter, $30

Sydney dress in light pewter, ~$65?

Waterfall cardi in shell and light pewter, $44 each

Short sleeve perfect V tee in celery, $15

And I just ordered 3 last items today:

harbour oxford capris in indigo, $15 or $20 with rewards card

2 SS perfect V tees, in breeze and lt pineapple, $15 ea

Writing this makes me realize how much Ive spent at JCrew... I think I'm going on a week-long no-buy...

  89. I used it earlier and bought a wendy skirt and the gateu skirt but have a victorian ruffle cami in melon on hold for today that I will pick up on my way home from the office!

  90. leaderboys - my favorite sa/ps in the Charleston store told me that I could use the red card over the red phone. Wonder why two employees of the same b&m would have different opinions on this?

    ReplyDelete
  91. kendra,

can i ask which color and in which size you plan to return the michelle cardigan? by the time i got to my b&m there were none left! it would be great if i can buy yours if its a xs or s. thanks!

  92. Has anyone had any quality issues with the Saturday Pants?, I brought them to the tailor for hemming, they took out the old hem and there is a white line, the dye rubbed off back to the original color of the pant before it was dyed. The tailor said the fabric is poor quality. I have had this tailor for years so I believe him. Such poor quality J Crew my do not buy list keeps on growing.

  94. leaderboys: yes, you can use the red card over the red phone. i've placed a few orders that way. even the CS reps i've talked to over the phone (from home) also said that you can use it from the red phone in the store. sorry they didn't let you. they're wrong. you could always ask them to call CS next time. :)

  95. I didn't use my red card at all. I haven't found much to love at J.crew. Maybe my style has changed. Still finding a lot of clothes I like, just not at J.crew.

    ReplyDelete
  96. i haven't used the card until today. I went to Atlanta jcrew stores at lenox and perimeter mall. really anything interesting. bought pleated lawn skirts in two colors. two cashmere vasts. I know the skirts will be further marked down, but get them first. If they marked down to 9.99 in two months, I will return them.

  97. I got the editor satchel using my redcard. I tried to pick it up a B&M but found out that ones near me dont carry the bag. So, I did call in and explained the situation. The cs kindly offered to accept the redcard for the bag purchase.

  98. OT - question for any craft JCAs out there. The end of the satin bow on my metallic lulu's is unattached, the part where the end seam is folded under and glued to the bottom. Would regular white glue stick it back or will that seep through to the top of the bow and be visible? Is there some other glue that I could use to stick it back down underneath?

    Thanks much!

  99. I used my red card quite a few times. I was really tempted to go at it again one last time today. ha ha!
The new softer palette did not wow me at first but the more I look in the June catalogue the more I find things that interest me. I have at least ten items I am thinking of buying.

I am wondering has anyone orderd the Space Dyed Cotton cardigan or the Goldwyn Dress?

  101. An update on the Delfine skirt, sitting in the front hallway awaiting return to my B&M--it glows in the dark!!! And no, I am absolutely NOT kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  102. CJ: They also had a small Michelle cardigan at the Woodfield Mall (IL) store if you want to give them a call. It was marked down to $19.99, color Light Pewter.

  105. Anony 9:48 - any chance you could email me an IRL photo of the Delfine? I'm dying to see this skirt and I'm in Canada - no B&M here.

    TIA

  106. silver_lining - there were lots of delfine skirts at the 5th ave and 45th/Madison St stores tonight (nyc). Seemed like they had enough that they probably had your size. Picked up the ikat skirt tonight - has anyone ordered one this yet? Any reviews?
And thanks also to anon@3:28 for suggesting 5th ave as well.

  108. Dark Persimmon-Perfect Color!April 30, 2009 at 11:35 PM

    JCrew Blooper:
    I purchased the
Featherweight cotton V-neck cardigan Item 14988
. I noticed on the web, if you do a search on item #, the picture of the sweater is not actually item 14988. After you select the item and open to the individual item window, the correct item is shown.

This sweater and a ringspun painter henley comes in a color named Dark Persimmon. The Dark Persimmon color is an awesome red tone not at all as harsh as shown on the web. It goes great w/blues and the brown tone colors out this season. The sweater is extremely thin but it is the perfect warm weather sweater. I can't state enough how perfect the color Dark Persimmon is...! Warning: this is a pretty thin sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anon @ 4:28: First off, so sorry about the late response! I hope you can get this - the silk habotai polos run a bit big in the shoulders and lengthwise...however, I'm relying on the shrinkage factor, it being 100% cotton and all. :) HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Dark Persimmon-Perfect Color! - would you say the cardigan runs TTS? I wear a small in the longer looser fit cardis like last fall's featherweight merino cardigan with the glass buttons and the michelle vnecks, but sometimes need a medium in cardis that fit across the chest. Sizing advice?
And I agree - the dark persimmon is sooo nice in person! Now I'm regretting not getting it tonight with my red card:(

    ReplyDelete
  111. Sherbie-It fits TTS to snug up top in my regular size. I wear size smalls and 4's in tops and am small busted but not as small as the model on the website. In a size small it fits perfect. In a size medium, the armholes get a tad bit larger and you gain more material under the arm area in front/back and from the shoulder seem to the neckline. A size up is wearable without a second thought. Plus it's 100% cotton so it could shrink up a bit, or could end up loosing shape. It's a coin toss at this point. If you're busty I doubt you can wear this buttoned up as it is very thin and would pull across the bust. I think the model on the website is wearing a larger size and her bust isn't giving her tops any fit issues.

I noticed the sweater as soon as I walked in the store. I think the Harbour Capri's come in a similiar color too. Under the stores lighting I thought it had orangish tones to it but the SA said, "oh, the red sweater". HTH - I'm not the best at giving fit advice.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes, the Harbour Capri comes in another color known as Bistro Orange. It is the same color as one of the 5" short offered online. I think it is a store only color.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Regarding the featherweight v-neck cardingan, I am a 36C and I can wear it buttoned up without any gaping. I feel it's TTS. HTH - And, the dark persimmon color is a great red and I love the sweater - perfect weight for hot SC.

  114. There is a picture of the Delfine skirt on jcrewaholics that just about does it justice in how bright it really is. However, it is still worse in person.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I looked at the JCrewaholics site and maybe it is my monitor, but the stripes aren't nearly as bright as they are in person. It really ruins the skirt, IMO. They are neon or day-glo pink, on a burlapy/wheat background. I have no idea what they were thinking. I'm not sure any posted photo will capture the color--it really plays tricks with the eyes, because it literally glows. I'm sure some might like it--it certainly is different and eye-catching. Just not at all my taste, and I am really annoyed at the difference between the catalog/online and IRL.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Thanks for the tip on finding an IRL photo of delfine.

I really love bright pink but neon colors tend to look very dated, very fast so I avoid them for that reason. I like the cute neon belt that J.Crew has but wouldn't buy it for the same reason.

I spend a lot of money on my clothes but don't buy that many so if I want to get my money's worth it has to be something that will last. I thought maybe delfine would be a quirky skirt in bright pink but if it is day-glo or neon, forget it.

  117. Everyone: Thanks for your great comments. It's always interesting to read. :)

Anon at 10:35 AM: Your right! I should have added an option on the poll for those who didn't receive one. I will remember for next time (if there's another red card offer). :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Amelia and Anon @ 4:15: Thank you so much for your helpful information on the crocodile jacket. It arrived this morning and thankfully fits very well. I definitely couldn't have sized down in the shoulders. But thank you again for taking the time to help another JCA out! :)

  119. I went one last time last night and got the Library Shawl Cardi in Pewter, a skinny pink belt, and the enamel link necklace in pink. Succes!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Dark Persimmon and math teacher,
thanks so much for the fit advice. Nice to know either a small or medium will work depending on if I want a more relaxed look or not.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I went to the store last night and scored Merino whisper ruffle cardigan in grey for $49.99 ($37.49), so I might return the sherbet one that I bought online $79.99 ($47.59).

OT: I went to Ann Taylor during their F&F and found some of their accessories are on sale for $3.99 (from $59).

    ReplyDelete
  122. sherbie: I ended up keeping the size small (my regular size) and returned the medium. After 5 mins. around the house in each size, wearing the medium I had to keep pushing the sleeves back up my forearm some and it was a tad bulkier BUT I'd keep it if I couldn't get the small. My dh was able to guess which one was the small and which one was the medium. :)
