Enjoy Extra 20% Off Final Sale Items

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Bekah & Green_Dino (in this post), as well as Patina, Marietta & Mariana, who let us know about J.Crew's latest promotion.

They are offering an additional 20% off sale items (click here) using promo code EXTRA20. This offer expires Wednesday, 7/22/09. Moreover, J.Crew sent an email (shown below) announcing this promotion also adding free shipping on orders of $150+.

Incidentally, many JCAs have mentioned that this Wednesday will also be the last day for the additional 20% off final sale items at their B&M (brick & mortar) stores (refer to "20% Off Final Sale Items Still Going On In Stores" post).

Are you planning to take advantage of this promotion? If so, what items are you planning to get? If not, what are the reasons behind your decision (e.g. nothing tempting to get, promo not enticing enough)?

  1. THANK YOU for posting this! I did not get the email yet - I didn't realize there was free shipping over $150!

  2. I hadn't gotten an email about this either - plus I didn't realize there was free shipping too! (I just saw the first graphic in your post before I made my purchase -- totally floored that there's free shipping too!) I got a couple more pairs of the poplin cargo shorts, a featherweight cashmere shell and matching cardigan, and the Kendra patent T-strap sandals I've had in my cart for the past week. YAY!

  3. I really want to use this code ... but there is so little in the sale section that I can't find anything I want :( They did the massive updates a few days ago, so I guess they are really just trying to get rid of the stuff no one bought at that time. Pity :(

    ReplyDelete
  4. There is only one thing I want and it is not worth it to get 20% off and pay shipping. I guess I don't want it that badly. So no, passing.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think they just had the update because it went from 572 items to 590 :(

  6. looking at the silk georgette pleated top...how does it fit and wondering if people like this or not.

    ReplyDelete
  7. This is a pretty good deal for the discount and free shipping. Could it be that J.Crew has heard our calls for a better promo?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Passing on this one since there's not much sale stuff anymore, and saving up for fall!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks Alexis! I've been waiting for this one!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, but a better promo that doesn't require $150 to get free shipping! I can do $100 but not the other......passing. Not enough left in final sale to equal spending $150.

I know I might sound "greedy" but when lots of places have free shipping or a flat rate $150 still seems HIGH to me.

  11. I was thinking about picking up the Large metallic-leather gallery hobo in silver.

    any reviews?

    thanks!

  12. I'm so glad I'm a night owl! I noticed the 20% the site at about 2am last night, and there was a bit more in the sale section then, than this morning when I checked. I grabbed a few of the boy-tees and the some light pink chinos for me. I also placed a second order (using the free shipping ) for a few Crewcut pieces for my son. The 20% the sale plus free shipping really makes a diffrence! Yay!

  13. I just ordered the large gallery hobo in gold...it was really hard to decide on the color but I figured gold could work with fall colors...
    what do you think?

    Stacy,
I saw a lady with silver one and it was pretty and looked really soft... I wish I could have both colors...

  14. wondering if anyone has the cashmere croquet cardigan and if it fits TTS? I'm debating on sizes..... :)

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  15. i have the sild georgette pleted top - it fits a little big so I suggest sizing down...i love it with cardigans, suits, etc. :) it's fully lined and a better quality silk than a lot of the other silk tops j.crew comes out with.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree with JC, the silk georgette pleated top does run really big. The 6 I got was more like a 10... Nice top, but definitely go down in size.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Does anyone know if light algae is the same color as spearmint?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bit the bullet on this one, couldn't deny the % off plus free shipping! Only one item I bought was marked final sale, too, so I feel safe ordering (this time!)

I got the Palma ankle wrap heels in the light color, nubuck flip flops, capri sandals (ride alongs), and I did a search for cardigans, and found the cashmere peplum jacket for final price of $55.99. I'd wanted it last year so I was happy to finally get it, especially for such a nice price. That's the only one marked final sale so my fingers are crossed that it's in good shape.

I did a couple other random searches and there's still some Fionas and Ecoles, and some other goodies lurking out there. This is my first JC order for myself in awhile, and I haven't been doing any instore shopping either. No surprise that the only things getting me to buy are shoes and winter/ fall stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree the sale is great! However, if you can make it to your B&M, the prices are much better. For example, the Palma heels are all $49.99 before the extra percentage off. I believe the flats were $39.99.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Susan, thanks for the heads up. GRR, my local store doesn't have shoes though. I'm using this promo as a chance to even just try them on! I kind of wonder how comfy they are IRL since the price keeps going down. They look so simple and pretty it must be a fit/ comfort issue I think. Has anyone tried the Palma heels want to share thoughts? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  21. OOOOOOH I am furious right now! I just put in an order on Friday, and apparently I didn't get to take advantage of this. Ahhhhh.... irritated!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, I bought a few things (mostly from Crewcuts), among them, a dress I had been coveting that was originally $168, down to $103. I figured that since my daughter is growing up, it´s worth stocking at discounted prices for the future. The FS in combination with the 20% off is a nice surprise! Hopefully it will be the norm from now on with JCrew.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm just going to say it. J Crew really sucks online sometimes. The online graphic doesn't say free shipping as well. I *still* haven't received an email about the promo. They never come until the afternoon. If it weren't for this blog I wouldn't know much or I'd know it very, very late. They should roll out emails to everyone at the same time and they should be correct. It is asinine to have a promo and then update it to later include free shipping. Eeergh.

    ReplyDelete
  24. CheesyGoodness-
When I tried the Palma Heels on yesterday, I could walk around the store in them, but have to say they were not the most comfortable shoes ever. Then again, I've only recently begun to wear heels and personally feel that ankle wrap/straps are not the most secure.

OT: I have the new sparkling rose tee coming in the pewter color today and am planning to post IRL pictures if anyone is interested.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Didn't see the free ship before placing my $100 order but at least I got the 20% off and I probably didn't really need another $50 worth of filler stuff anyway :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks for posting the codes! Really wanted to take advantage of this, but there really is not much left in the sale section!
Agree that if you have a B&M, that's a better option. I was at Brea, CA, and they had tons of stuff that was deeply marked down. I got the origami tank for $19.99 + 20% off when online it's still $79!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Uh! This always happens to me! I just ordered something yesterday and now the Extra 20 applies! Boo!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks, Susan. I'm glad they're not FS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Agree with others - this is a high minimum to get free shipping on final sale items. I rarely buy final sale items (unless I know exactly what size I need in the item); it's my way of protesting j.crew's practices. I also only order when I can get free shipping - that's my protest against j.crew's absurd shipping charges, like wanting $14.50 to ship one fine-gauge sweater.

Instead I'm finding great offerings on nordstrom.com during their anniversary sale - where it's $8 flat rate, or free over $200 :-) Oh, and of course, anything and everythng is returnable.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow... finally the extra% off with free shipping.

I noticed it last midnight (the extra 20% off), put so many items in the shopping bag, couldn't justify to buy some dresses (free ship wasn't up last night, though), thought about it over night, came back and would like to buy.

In the morning, after I decided to buy (the dresses) and found out there's a free shipping (^O^)... the dresses were gone.....(T_____T)

win some lose some, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Succumbed...and I hate myself for it, but I decided that I could still go down a size in the cropped chino. The 20% was the trigger. I did find some boyfriend tees and tees for DS. All in all, cost averaged to $10 per item, so not bad.

I don't use the free shipping minimum anymore for justification. With two little ones, it's not worth it to drag them to the store for returns.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, this is just lovely... I bit the bullet and placed an order after swearing I wouldn't. Snagged the origami tank and then I see from newyork0311's comment that they're still available in stores- and for way cheaper to boot. UGH. Well, at least none of my things are marked final sale.

I have never seen the tank IRL, so I'm hoping it's a winner.

  33. Just bought my 3rd Cashmere Cascadia Cardigan, was $188, now $89, + 20% off. I adore it and the cascade is more subtle than some. Excellent buttons, can be worn buttoned, the "good" cashmere, softens and feminizes a blazer.

For JCAs looking to transition to fall or meet the minimum order for free shipping, I just received my vintage matchstick cords (graphite + sandalwood) and adore them. Excellent fit, so soft, vintage-style colors. So I order today the faded black and shadow. These will be a fall staple on campus.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Crewlade. Ugh! I ordered the large metallic hobo in silver.

Gold was my 1st choice. I have a lot of items in grey & light pewter, so I'm hoping I love the silver.

JCMama we should talk after we each receive ours in case we want to trade colors ;-).

    ReplyDelete
  35. Whaaaat? Free shipping can be combined with extra 20% off?? Watchu talkin bout Wilis?

    (:

    ReplyDelete
  36. This is so upsetting. I placed 3 orders last week… and now they offer EXTRA20 and free shipping.

...but I am very happy I got Metallic Cloqué Pencil Skirt (Item 96410)- great find!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Finally, the holy grail of coupon codes!! Bad news is, I'm already tapped out. Won't stop me from looking, though....

    ReplyDelete
  38. eygptomanic,

I am a night owl too.....I did not see a single thing in the night...I was checking at the same time too.

The sale section is so picked over. Not impressed. Too little too late, Jcrew.

    ReplyDelete
  39. gigi,
yes, the silver does look great with gray and navy... I'm also thinking about getting the silver one in the smaller size... I'm not sure how big the large one is but I don't like heavy bags so I'm going to try the small one.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Alexis,
many of us aficionadas have long-term relationship with Jcrew, yet others are newbies. I think it would be both nostalgic and inspirational to share some older Jcrew catalogues or pics with others. I love this set for example http://www.sarahklassen.com/2009/06/jcrew-ads.html. Or famous Paris catalogue :)
    What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  41. jcmama - I tried both in-store and the large is pretty big, but I preferred it over the small. Both are very nice. I'm just a sucker for big bags even though I'm a shorty.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Dina has 3 posts on the Paris catalog on her blog:

  43. TO JC -
In regard to your question about the cashmere croquet cardigan - Yes, I have had it since April - love it, and I would def. say it fits true to size. It is somewhat fitted...not loose, not too tight. Hope that helps.

    Thanks!

  47. I want to know what mack said... :)
    hint please..

    ReplyDelete
  48. I took advantage of the 20% at 6:00am this morning only to find out I could've gotten free shipping too! Didn't get the email with the free shipping until later in the day :(

Since it's a final sale I can't cancel the order & repurchase (at least according to three CS reps) Oh well... this always happens.

    ReplyDelete
  49. is the cascadia cashmere cardi TTS? is it really fitted? THanks!

    ReplyDelete
  50. oh - and I forgot to ask about the cashmere origami cardi too! Thanks in advance! Right now I have both the cascadia cardi in my cart although cant decide about warm shell or light pink (any thoughts?) as well as the metallic pink hobo (any thoughts on this, too!)

I can't help but get sucked in again!

    ReplyDelete
  51. goldcoastal gal- that's a bunch of BALONEY! You made the purchase on the SAME DAY as the promotion started-I would keep calling until you find sometimes to say yes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ladies, the Augusta peep-toes were TTS in the toe box, but the actual slingback was too big. I think several other JCA's have complained about this as well.

Off topic, anybody that's loving the warm wisteria/dusty thistle color may want to take a look at Target - they have cute tissue tees in that color (it's called "Berry") for $9.99.

    ReplyDelete
  53. GoldCoastGal - I agree. I would push for the refund of shipping fees. Esp if they can see your order history on file & esp if you are a cardholder. That's crap.

jcmama - You didn't miss anything that Mack said. IMO, the main point Summer has is to not jump on the rooftops and shout out tricks & tips. A good example is entering 99 to see how many items are left. That was repeated a number of times and now the feature is gone.
Many people feel that the Crewstaff get wind of glitches in their system and tighten them up.

The rule of thumb I use is if I am in doubt about sharing something...if I think saying a particular thing *might* get people riled up then I try to keep it to myself. No worries as I am not sitting on any big secrets.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I actually got the email earlier than I normally do today...definitely a pleasant surprise! Too bad there wasn't an update!

    ReplyDelete
  55. GoldCoastGal-

The Free Ship promo should be good for the day it starts, not at the time you personally receive the J.Crew email announcing it.

I'm in the pacific nw and I didn't get the email until after 10 am.

Why should you pay shipping just because you received the email later than other folks? That is just crazy.

I would make a stink about it until you get your shipping costs refunded.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I always get these darn emails late in the day, too! I hate it. Were it not for this site, I would miss all the updates and potential purchases. I agree with other JCAs that emails should go out midnight EST or whatever, ACROSS THE BOARD!! I rec'd my email at 10:52AM. Luckily I logged on this morning to this wonderful site and found the promo and was able to order a couple pairs of sale boots for fall/winter early. Geez, Jcrew...come on!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Review of 2 items I just got:

Falling petals tank: Runs SMALL! The style had real potential if it weren't so darn tight. Petal edges are frayed which doesn't bother me but I know some people on here don't like that. Has to go back due to sizing issue.

Cashmere cascadia cardigan: fits tts, cashmere is very thick, not summerweight. Was going to save for fall/winter but the chiffon part which looks cute and ruffle-y on the website just looks like a random stripe down the placket IRL. Going to return it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. hey all, does anyone know what time the site updated today? if not, has it been updating at a regular time? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  59. Cass, thanks for reviewing - we haven't heard much about the newer pieces yet. I'd love to hear opinions about the Saturday twist dress if anybody has tried it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I spend thousands and JC never gives me a break. I wrote them about the free shipping code and no response as of today. It's so frustrating! OT, how do you guys check for updates on the website? I never know when new things go on sale! :(

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have the silver Large Metallic Gallery Hobo bag and I love it.

I don't use the shoulder strap, I like to carry it up on my shoulder. The handle is firm so takes some getting used to. The bag is not very heavy and the leather is soft and squishy. I kinda wish the fabric lining wasn't so boring, though, it's a tan canvas. Rugged, yes. Pretty, no.

One other consideration is that the opening for the bag is small, so you cannot see everything inside when you open it up. But then again, it's a hobo so you have to feel around for eveything anyway! hahaha! I keep my stuff organized into separate little Vera bags so not really a problem for me. I can also easily fit in waters, a cardi, a book, etc. It has a lot of room!

I'm thinking about the new sale code, but I am trying to wait for the fall stuff and my rewards card is coming soon...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Off topic sorry... I received a Martin + Osa coupon in the mail for 25% off a purchase valid through 8/22 and can be redeemed in store or online. I have never shopped there but know that some of you do so wanted to offer up the coupon if anyone is interested. Drop me a line if interested and I will pop it in the mail.
J Crew if you are reading this- I went to town with the red card and would love to see another one soon-hint hint:)

  64. You guys are lucky. People in Korea do not have access to Jcrew website for over 6 months. It seems like no one can do anything about it. I even wrote to Mickey and he gave an associate to deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Kathy,
I was visiting Korea for 3 weeks. During that time, I was so upset because my access was denied. I sent a few emails and they said that they were "trying" to fix the problem but it wouldn't be fixed in 2009. I wonder how they choose a country to block access and another country right next to it(Japan) to be able to shop. Has the problem been only for 6 months? Funny thing is, I was able to access J crew card web site so I could pay on my acount(it wasn't blocked at all)
I wonder if they have grudge against Korea. Once upon a time
(1996) they opened their first store in Korea, but it didn't sell well. A plain crewneck shirt was priced about $50(worth $60 at the time). I was working for a company which was in the same corp with the company that imported J crew. They had to close J crew in about a year because it wasn't selling.

I couldn't get my daily crewfix for 3 weeks...can you imagine?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anybody having problems with the free shipping? I've got over $150 in my bag after the 20% is applied and it's still adding the shipping charge. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong??

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have an order that just shipped, but the notice says tracking number not available. I wonder what that means? It's not coming UPS? I've always had a tracking number before, anyone else ever receive this?

It's not a big deal (at least I hope it's not!), but I'm going on vacation soon and like to stalk my package to see if it will arrive in time.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I placed an order last week for the Elodie shoes in hydragea and the metalli blueberry strati tank - and now they are both reduced even more! I am REordering them and returning the ones from last week. My receipt last week doesn't say final sale so I should be okay - anyone else done this? I will get like 70 dollars back! (and now I can get something else!)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Georgia crew girl,

Is your total $150 after the discount AND before taxes are added? That might be the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  70. jbird: yes, my total is 150 prior to taxes and after the discount. Maybe I should call them. I REFUSE to pull the trigger with those high shipping charges while there is a promo running! :)

  72. Ladies...

Thank you for your assistance. I just called again today to get the free shipping added to my order along with the 20% off. Apparently one of the items was on wait list therefore I was able to cancel it and reorder it. Whew!

Wow what a challenge! I hate that I had to go thru all this. Especially since I placed the order the same day of the promotion. Crazy!

  73. Thanks so much for this info, I'm glad I joined.

  74. georgia crew girl,
