J.Crew Email: INSIDER SALE. Ends tomorrow. 20% off your order of $150+. Online only.

"Thanks!" to Marietta, as well as jmpb (in this post), who shared with us the latest email from J.Crew today.

The email reminds us know about their "insider sale" where you can get 20% off all orders of $150+ with promo code SHOPFALL. This offer expires tomorrow, 10/14/09.

From the comments in yesterday's "J.Crew Email: INSIDER SALE. 20% off your order of $150+. 3 days and online only." post, many JCAs mentioned that they are not taking advantage of the offer because of shipping costs. It would be interesting to see if J.Crew decides to offer a similar promotion with free shipping in the future. :)

Some JCAs have also mentioned that J.Crew removed certain items from the site during this promotion. For example, Dan (in this post) found the following: "They also took all of the men's collaborations down for the sale. No red wing boots or any of the others...lame."

On a bright note, some JCAs have mentioned that they were able to successfully use this promotion for wait-listed items. :)

Lastly, Elizabeth & RatsOnParade (in this post) logged in and found that J.Crew provided them with free shipping. This sounds similar to those who got free shipping a few weeks ago. (Refer to the September 25th "Surprise! Log Into J.Crew for Free Shipping" post.) {wahoo!}

Are you planning to take advantage of this offer? Did you take advantage of this offer? If so, please share! :)

  1. I am a little miffed that they haven't had a decent restock in the last two days. Though I did end up rebuying quite a bit of items yesterday I'd previously purchased at full price (after returning said unworn items to the B&M last night). The savings were considerable enough to make it worth it. But why, oh why, can't they have the gray flannel Betinna's pop back up in my size? Paying full price for those really hurts. I love them to pieces, but man it hurts.

  2. No restock, removing some items from the site, no free shipping (for me). I'm with Dan on this one. Lame.

  3. Also not planning to buy without free shipping. I keep logging in and never get that sweet little message! And every time I re-log in, it erases the contents of my cart! It irks me to no end that their site isn't set up to save your cart, or at least a wishlist or something!!!!

Has anyone had any luck using the "white card" (came with the earrings) to get free shipping? Mine did not specify it was good for FS.

Completely O/T, but if anyone ordered during the Kate Spade F&F promo a couple weeks ago, make sure to check your credit card statement. There was some discussion here about the fact their discount code wasn't working. So when I placed my order by phone, I was assured that although I was being charged the full amount, they would apply a credit for the promo amount. Turns out the credit had to be applied manually by individual employees. Surprise surprise, the woman never credited me. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't checked with my cc company. When I called KS back today, there was no apology or anything, just "oh, I'll do that right away." Well, good, but isn't an apology in order? So double check if you placed an order!!

  4. I'm not sure why or how, but when I did a mock check-out with the 20% the shipping charges were erased. I never got free shipping during the "update your login info" promo, so maybe they're making up for that? Or maybe they added free shipping to the promo this morning? Either way, I certainly placed an order since I didn't have to pay the shipping!

  5. Ditto on the Free shipping with my log in (it never worked before today) and 20%:)

  6. RatsOnParade - I did the same thing yesterday, I reordered a bunch of stuff using the 20% off coupon on items that I had just received in the mail, but had not worn yet. The savings were quite significant, enough to pay the $18.50 shipping charges. I'm returning the unworn items today. I did get the Free Shipping notice when I logged into my account this morning, so I ordered the long boyfriend blazer, which is waitlisted in my size, but I had been eyeing for awhile. So, I got 20% off + FS.... I wish I had gotten the FS notice yesterday!

  7. No FS for me - it's luck of the draw, isn't it?

  8. I am waitlisted for the long boyfriend jacket, I got the herringbone high heeled boots, ruffled edelyn lawn dress, jakarta dress, saturday pant, and a couple of camis- totally worth it as it is summer all year long here but we do have severe aircon!! Ï'll post pic/reviews when I get the stuff but it wont be for awhile... BTW, has anyone tried the herringbone tunic/dress in the weekend wear section? How is it?

  9. Just thinking about the removal of the collaboration items like the Red Wing boots and Timex watch -- I'll bet that JC has contracts with those companies not to discount their items, much in the same way many department store sale weekends exclude cosmetics. I'm sure there's a legal aspect to it.

  10. I still haven't gotten the free shipping message so I won't be ordering anything with this code.

  11. FYI - Banana has 15% off plus Free Shipping today only. I have several items in my J.Crew cart. If a similar offer came by, I'd pull the trigger.

  12. Has anyone tried on or purchased the Templeton tall leather flat boots? I was wondering how the sizing is running on them and how fitted they are around the calf. Thanks!

  13. La Belle Helene, I cannot believe you have all those Greenwich pieces. I decided to hunt down the pictures and they are in the September 2005 catalog on page 18. Those amazing shoes are in the same catalog on page 32 and in the insert and they're called Tweed Sabrina Jeweled Kitten Heels. Long name! The whole catalog is packed with great shoes and jackets. I remember they had to do some mea culpas because they put mink pom poms on a couple of items. I tried using my scanner and it just doesn't work but someone that has the 2005 catalog, it would be fun to show others some great fall seasons. Who knows, maybe they'll bring some of those pieces back!

  14. If they didn't want to discount the collaboration items, why not simply exclude them from the code, rather than remove them from the site?
Also, you can find them if you search, but if you click on the item you go back to the homepage...

  15. Yikes! I thought I was a nut for lusting after long-lost pieces from the Greenwich tweed collection! I loved that collection. I looked at the Greenwich tweed dress for the longest time (tweed skirt attached to silk top that was pink botantical print). Don't know why I did not buy it. I keep hoping that someday it will get cleaned out of someone's closet and show up on ebay.

  16. Meme, I've seen that dress periodically on eBay - so CUTE! I would do anything to get my hands on that Greenwich tweed coat - double-breasted, leather covered buttons, detachable collar.. *sigh*

Like FFM, I won't be purchasing with this code w/o free shipping.

  17. OT -- does anyone have a link to a site/blog that has old JC catalogues? I'd love to look back on all these items you're talking about...I was never good with names!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am thinking of stopping at Staples and seeing how much a cheap scanner would be. I have all the catalogs to July 2004. As I was looking at that catalog I just wanted so much for people to see some of the items. And the point of it is, as several have mentioned, they seem to be repeating a lot of items over the past 18 months. If they're going to repeat items, great, go back further as they will feel really new again! And I already know what I missed or foolishly returned.

  19. Actually, I was able to purchase the Timex watch with the 20% off early this year. In fact, I even placed a Rolex in my cart and pretended to buy it with the 20% off and that worked! So I am surprised that J. Crew would remove it this time around.

  20. aww, so you can't combine this with the FS code?

  21. Laura,
That would be awesome if you were able to scan the pictures and share :-) I think that same cat. has the Stella tweed items - there was a skirt, and a long coat, and a hat. I also have the gold jacquard flower-patterned skirt from that cat.

I think that was also the same fall that j.crew did these bewitching clutches (though they had chains that could be used) - one was golden tweed with velvet trim and a jewel & feathers, the other same style in black and ivory tweed. I've got both, and treasure them madly. Love using them this time of year. They both had heels that matched - same style as the Sabrina, I believe.

Meme, I tried on the silk/Greenwich tweed dress, but unfortunately it fit really badly on me, so I had to pass - disappointing, because I agree, it was such a chic dress.

It's nice and cool here, beautiful autumn weather, so I wore my Greenwich tweed skirt today, and used the handbag. Am delighted to learn how many other Greenwich tweed aficionados are on this blog :-)

  22. I broke down & placed an order which I hated to do, but the 20% savings on some things that have been in my shopping cart 4EVER was still a good deal even paying for shipping. (I didn't get the Free Standard Shipping message when I signed in...sigh) I figure it will be a while before another 20% comes our way.

Ah, dreaming of the plethora of carefree double codes of Fall 2008...

  23. Laura, please do! My "collection" doesn't go back that far and I would LOVE to revisit some of those beauties! :)

  24. I ordered online and have been wearing the dream cardigan. Love that green color. Hate the pills - it already looks badly and I have only had it for less than three weeks.

I called my favorite B&M today. I like all the SA's there. They said, no problem, if I am not satisfied to bring it back to the store with the invoice and they will return it for me.

I have to say, that I get good customer service at my store on a regular basis. I have not had any issue with returns at all. I get to the store maybe once a month and although I purchase items I am hardly a big spender.

  25. Ooh I am sorry to hear that about the dream wool - I recently bought 3 dream sweaters and was SO pleased by how soft and cozy they are! I hope they hold up!! Sounds like I better get a de-fuzzer.

It may be worth trying your order in another browser (if Explorer then Mozilla and vice versa) if the code isn't working. I couldn't get a free ship code to work last week but it did when I switched up the browser. It's all sooo random!

  26. So that's the deal! I couldn't figure out why I was unable to look at the shiny Hunter boots last night! Was thinking of buying them with something else on the 20% off! Bought my DH the Timex last spring on a 20% off promo.

  27. Thanks for the reminder to sign it, I finally did receive the note about free shipping and purchased the two items in my bag as well as a bikini for my daughter. You can't beat the price on the swimsuits and she can never have too many bikinis!

  28. Laura -- That would be wonderful if you could scan the old catalogs! I haven't bought much from J.Crew online/stores this season...been shopping a lot for older items on eBay/JCA posts though -- Greenwich jacket(s), Lexington, Stella tweed blazer(which btw looks AWESOME with the cinnamon pencil skirt)....and also the factory stores (berry trim astrid). It's great because these "older" items are actually "new" for me! I'm a recent JCA (2008), so never really saw what they offered prior to that and would love to view the catalogs....THANKS!!

BTW -- The Factory Store SA told me they are having a roll-out this week and said they would have a jacket/blazer version of the green sparkle-plaid tweed print (skirt from last year).....

  29. Also, miffed that there hasn't been a good restock of FS since the 20% offer came out. I'm also amazed at the prices on some of the summer merchandise on FS. At this point there can only be a few places in the country warm enough to wear summer clothes. Why keep them around?

Anyway, the reason for my post is OT but here goes. Today I received a birthday card from BCBG for 20% off all store purchases in October. I"ve never received this before so I'm sure it's in response to the economy but it's still very nice. I don't spend much in BCBG but am now tempted to go in. I would have been thrilled if J Crew did something like this.

  30. Do you think they really sold out of the Cashmere tie-front cardigan in all colors but Navy? Removal of certain items during the sale doesn't make me real happy with JCrew. I understand excluding jewelry and certain high end items from a sale (other stores do it too) but to hide the most popular colors and styles is not right. Dumping lagging merchandise will only result in returns when the more popular colors are available.

The restock should be a doozy. To bad there isn't anything I'm dying for this year... :(

  31. Tonight, for the first time, I logged in (after many attempts) and was offered free shipping! (I hadn't switched browsers or any of the other tricks that worked for some other JCAs.) So I went ahead and ordered a Frances cami in sage, the pearl cluster necklace (my Target one is sharp and uncomfortable), and some Crewcuts items. It was a nice surprise to be able to get free shipping along with the SHOPFALL promo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. How annoying that they removed certain items during the sale! That's not much of an "insider's" sale, is it? Boo... I did get the Lexi satchel, so I hope J.Crew will ship it out soon!

  33. Just emailed customer service asking if the shipping charges could be reversed on my previous order that I haven't received yet. I'm glad some people are receiving the Free Shipping when logging into their accounts or the Flora earings, but it would be nice if they extended at least the Free Shipping plus 20% off when spending over $150 for everyone. We'll see what they say!

  34. Was anybody able to use student/educator discount with the additional 20%?

  35. I was at my B&M, and they had the glass cylinder necklaces on promo for $39.50 and the navy (darkest indigo) Eden blazer for 99.99

  36. Has anyone tried on the tall Nottingham heeled boots? If so, how do they run, size-wise?

    Thanks so much!

  37. Just wanted to say that I just had a great experience with the cardmember CS-- super friendly and helpful. She helped me with a 'we will find' for the donegal v-neck in heather latte. I also added a dream crewneck cardi in sea green. I was able to apply the 20% off code for both and was only charged shipping for the dream sweater, not the donegal as its a 'we will find'. She also thought the new arrivals might be online around 10/17 as that's when the catalog should be in homes. It was the first time I ordered over the phone as opposed to online, but it was a great way to go. Very happy, now :::fingers crossed::: that they find the donegal v-neck!

  38. Hmm... passing on this one...with tax & shipping, this promo basically says come spend $140!

  39. I took the bait (hook, line & sinker!) and got the Joley pearlized-patent peep toes in black, the Campo bag in burnt sienna and the pointelle tights. I'm excited they have so many different kinds of tights this year. Too bad all the tops are too big for me - they could've squeezed some more dollars out for sure!
