J.Crew Email: 25% off your order of $150+. Online only.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Suzy, Tiffany Rose, Marietta, as well as Heidi (in this post), kathymtaing, mommydearest, & Green_Dino (in this post), who let us know about the following offer.

J.Crew is offering 25% off on orders of $150+ with promo code GIFTS. This offer expires 12/6/09. :) Of course, there is some fine print excluding certain items:
*Offer does not apply to previous purchases, alterations or the purchase of gift cards. Offer does not apply toward Timex®,...... Sperry Top-Sider®, Jack Purcell®, Quoddy®, Red Wing Shoes®, Converse®, Barbour®, Thomas Mason® for J.Crew, Aigle®, Belstaff®, Clarks®, Tretorn®, Ray-Ban®, SeaVees®, Bass®, Baracuta®, Sorel®, Mister Freedom®, Hunter®, Adidas®, Mackintosh®, The Laundress®, Rogues Gallery®, Blundstone®, Levi's®, Selima Optique®, Panama Hat, Essie®, Globe Trotter®, Superior Labor®, Want OrganicTM for J.Crew, Postalco®, Fjällräven®, Kid-O®, Caran d'Ache®, Duncan®, Spring Court®, Citta®, Siku®, or Schleich® products.
This offer is a great one as it (1) is *not* limited to sale-items-only or regular-priced-items-only and (2) does *not* need the total to be $150 after the discount. For some JCAs who get free shipping for just logging-in (refer here), this deal is super-sweet. (Maybe this would have been a better Cyber Monday promotion?)

Will you be taking advantage of this {amazing} promotion? Are there any items you are hoping to pick up? :)

  1. I'm ashamed- I drank the Crewlade for the second time this week! I just couldn't resist myself... especially since this promo didn't require the total to be over $150 after the discount. That's their usual requirement, so it's a nice change.

  2. Yippie! Super update this am and I was thrilled to pick up several adorable crewcuts items & Some fun jewelry for me:) not to mention Free shipping for logging into my account- This is what I was waiting for-thanks J crew!!

  3. Also for those of you looking for the Tori- it is in stock both colors lots of sizes. I was thrilled to find in the graphite in my size-good luck.

  4. Yay! This is exactly what I was waiting for to pull the trigger. Thanks everyone for the heads up -- I have not received this email yet.

  5. Mini patent campo on sale... drooling... must resist...

  6. they would have had me if I had free shipping (no monogramming for me, thanks) - if anyone's interested I noticed the lexi clutch (regular not metallic) is $139.99 and the crewcuts crazy bead in select colors $7.99~

  7. Wow, I was just reading through the FB comments on J.Crew's fan page for this promotion. I think the people are speaking up, and they are not pleased.

  8. But there is no free shipping with this one...it was better before IF you wanted a sweater or two or something like the tees on promo when you could get free shipping with SHIP125 or $150 so this still isn't great. Give me 25% off everything and free ship and that would be exciting.

  9. I am so trying to get back into JCrew. I still have tons from last year. I have extra cords still in packages jsut waiting... ;) Still following your blog girl!

  10. i FILLED my cart with a bunch of christmas presents but refuse to pay shipping. c'mon crew!!

  11. Not to be negative but I skip these promo's too when they don't include free shipping. I love the f/s because I like to (have to) try items on since alot of merchandise is iffy for me. I only splurge on this type of promo when I already know the items will work for me.

I'm just wondering how long it will be until they take away the 60 day return policy?? Or the unlimited timeframe to return unworn merchandise. I know Gap cracked down it's return policy sometime ago, and they no longer accept merchandise with a receipt after season at the paid-for-price. Maybe it's not an issue for JC since so many of us love the adventure of stalking 'popbacks'.

M&O has 50% sweaters online & in-store. I just made my first sweater purchase from them.

  12. I was shocked for a moment because I got sweaters on the 20% off that ended yesterday BUT that had free shipping and when I realized this doesn't I calculated it up and I'm better off bc their shipping is so ridiculously $$. . . it's just a love/hate relationship with them! I'll be holding out til a free shipping . . .

  13. yey! i can finally order my coat! :)

  14. I did it! I've had that funny marabou barrette in my bag for an age - also got another cashmere crewneck for $75, trying the silk streamers cami, a headband, a t-shirt on sale, grey thigh-highs and a shirt for my husband.

Kinda want the soiree wrap, but it seems like something you should be able to get at Claire's or Filene's for less than $55 (or $41.25 on sale).

There are some cute things in the sale section - silk flare skirt, cashmere crewnecks, a good number of coats. I recommend the painter tee, it's $10, fits great, and has just enough of an "open neck" but not as much as the usual scoopneck tees.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I had FS so this was a nice surprise. Jack Purcells are excluded? Not according to my confirmation... they came up on sale. My daughter will be happy =)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am definitely filling my shopping bag as I write this (well, not simultaneously) - super sale update as well.

Does anyone know if I can get free shipping by tossing some crewcuts things in? I'm doing an Elf program for a 13-year old girl and the glitter headband and some of the hair accessories would be perfect? Thanks!

  17. I placed a large order and then realized no free shipping on my account. Completely cancelled the entire order. Not really saving that much when J Crew charges $18.50 for shipping. I refuse to pay shipping during the holidays when so many other retailers are practically begging me to spend my money with them with much better offers that INCLUDE FREE SHIPPING. I'd even pay a flat rate but not $18.50. Too bad, because there were some cute sale items and new items in my cart.

  18. Merry Christmas to me! I got the Stadium Cloth Friday coat, which I've wanted forever. It was finally marked down AND it popped back in my size in Heather Graphite. YAY!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I won't be using this...no free shipping...no buying for me...

    ReplyDelete
  20. major sale re-stock this morning! The deco skirt is marked down to $50 but only in size 8 now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. On the post below this one I see where people on the West Coast were able to get 20% off sweaters AND the additional 25% off their orders! I guess there was a bit of a cross over and both promos were in effect for a time online! Wow. Those people scored with two percents off AND free shipping codes still in effect....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Amanda, unless they're changed it recently, the crewcuts free shipping applies only to crewcut items. Everything else in the cart is charged full shipping.

I checked out the site again late last night, but even with the overlapping promos, I couldn't find anything I wanted to buy. Strange but true.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow I love this promo ! I knew something was coming up after yesterday... will be getting denim and a jacket this time and maybe some tees..

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm so tempted, but paying for shipping is holding me back. I read all the other posts and we all did the same thing: loaded up our carts and balked at the checkout. I NEED FREE SHIPPING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Echo those sentiments on paying shipping - lame, lame, lame. Just canceled a big order in the end when the shipping charge pops up.

Perhaps they haven't seen the Nov retail numbers?

  26. I tried to combine the 20% off sweaters with the new promo late last night but it wouldn't give me free shipping. So, I didn't end up ordering anything. It was sad, because there were alot of sweaters in the sale section then that I don't see this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I need the coat I'm looking for to be reduced in price with a discount and/or free shipping. Otherwise...18 bucks to ship ain't worth it. Ridiculous.

  28. OT -->

Can anyone comment on the Wool- Cashmere Station coat or the Duffel coat?

    Love, not love, warmth factor?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi..Has anyone seen the ryder satchel in person ?

    Any comments highly appreciated .

  30. I feel you all on shipping. I think this is one of the adv of the Crewcard at the moment because I have it on my login and I had it yesterday as well. I agree w/past sentiments about the rewards not being so great but it seems they are changing. As forward thinking as Mickey is supposed to be, perhaps they have a very traditional corporate environment where thiiings mooooove veeeery sloooowly and it takes a long time to implement change.

For those that are shopping, I noticed...

    18976 skinny patent belt - $19.99
    20253 skinny patent belt - $19.99
    16961 bouquet belt - $19.99
    19703 ripstop cargo - $29.99
    17710 Olive top - $39.99
21296 silk posy blouse - $78 promo, also comes in petites, love the dusty shale color.

  31. Clicquot - I have irl pics of the duffle coat in this post:

    http://gigisgoneshopping.blogspot.com/2009/11/j-crew-wool-duffle-coat.html

I don't live in a snow climate, but I think it's very warm. Loved it on. I have a search feature on the right-hand side of my blog. You can put in a J Crew product name or style number and if I've reviewed it, it'll find the post. HTH

  32. I have had a JCrew credit card since the day they first were offered. I have never had the free shipping on my account pop up when I log in so I doubt that having a JC credit card has anything to do with getting this offer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Summer - Good to chime in as I am only guessing. Perhaps it's not card related and only login related. Perhaps others can comment.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gigi & Summer- I have a Crewcard too, never had free shipping on my account :( . . . my theory is it depends on how much you spend with them on a regular basis? . . . but this is total speculation. Other JCA's any theories? Or maybe someone knows the facts!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I placed a few orders... and JC is kind enough to waive the shipping for me after the 1st orders so I won't really complain much even though I have to pay for the shipping. It saves me more money in the end compared to buying the items in the stores.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Christina,

I won't comment any further on this (or how I know) but one factor for sure (and there are more than one) does depend on how much $ you spend with them. Does not matter whether you have a credit card with them or not...just be a big spender:) in store or online....

    ReplyDelete
  37. Personally, I like companies like LLBean who treat their customers equally. When you have their credit card everyone gets free shipping, free returns, and free monogramming all the time so no guessing games! Plus, right now, anyone gets a $10 gift card to use later when ordering $25 or more.

    ReplyDelete
  38. some more data for those who are counting: I have a JC card (use it always), got the 25% mickey cards every time and the flora earrings. I received one-time free ship codes the last time around.

This time, at login and via email I have free monogramming and boxes (wahoo?). What I tell myself is that they're not giving me free shipping because I order too frequently! Sucks for JC, good for my wallet : )

    ReplyDelete
  39. OT Anyone else having trouble accessing the JC site? I've been getting a "server not found message" for the last 15 minutes. Grrr, really hope this is not a flashback to 2008.

    ReplyDelete

  41. I'm a JC Silver card holder and I did NOT receive any of the log-in and FS offer yet. I put a lot of items in my cart and I refuse to pay $18.50 for shipping for items that may be damaged/defective or sizing that are off.

I agree about equally treating their card holders or customers. Even a reasonable flat rate shipping would be okay.

So, unless JC offers Free Shipping with this offer, I won't be buying anything.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I also suspect that if you order 'too frequently', you're less likely to get fs promos down the road, or so it seems.

fyi, I got the fs last time around but this time only free monogramming and giftboxes. Not a cardholder though.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't get FS on one of the most last FS go-rounds and I'm a silver cardholder. I agree w/jjs that a factor could be frequency. When I was ordering a lot, I didn't get FS. I haven't placed many orders lately and now I'm getting FS. Who knows. I definitely agree that they should have more, dare I say, equality on the promos. At least for cardholders. It makes no sense for some cardholders to get FS and others do not. Esp for silver cardholders. I will always keep my BR Luxe card. Now *those* are some benefits.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am with Shopalot. No free shipping, no $$ from me. Why doesn't J Crew get it???

    ReplyDelete
  45. Really OT, and probably has been mentioned before, but for anyone who watches the show Glee: Emma Pillsbury's outfits always have something from J. Crew or Anthropologie incorporated in them. I love Crew-spotting eveyr Wednesday at 9 :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Did anyone get the lavender lexi during the last promo? What's your thoughts?

Has anyone owned the garland bracelet for awhile that can comment whether they have liked it, whether it stays on top of the wrist or falls back so the clasp is facing up (pet peeve of mine JC bracelets the weight pulls the pretty part of bracelet to the back).

Beware: The barely peach puffer was a let down as the color is not the soft, muted neutral that shows on the site. It is much orangier:(

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm bummed there is no FS on my account but 25% is still a nice offer. For jc anyway lol.

I won't be ordering this time around but I do want to recommend the metallic tweed mini bag for anyone on the fence about it!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Totally agree with sadness about no fs...but there are a few things I've been drooling over that I might be tempted to buy.

Two questions though...has anyone tried on the silk flair skirt? How does it fit? I love the warm redwood color, but am afraid it would look too pouf-y.

The other question I have is about the ingenue coat. Does it fit well and how warm is it? I live in an area where the winters are fairly mild and am trying to use the excuse that it's going to be too warm to stop me from staring at it in the catalog...

Sorry for the long post, I don't live near a J Crew and would love to get some feedback before I pay for the shipping!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jeanne - Thanks! I remember a coworker putting a crewcuts item in her basket this summer and the whole thing shipping for free - they must have caught onto this :(

I did what everyone else did - nothing for me after that $18.50 popped up. There wasn't anything in my cart that I was really excited about to justify it.

I've been buying a lot from JC lately and have not got any promotions, besides the $25 gift card. Compared with what BR Luxe gives me, this is pretty sad.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I was able to get the 25% to work on my Quoddy boots last night. Hopefully it goes thru. You can still find some of the limited items that don't show up by just doing a search. Hope this helps

    ReplyDelete
  51. Has anyone tried the Harbor peacoat? Thinking of getting gramma one (she's 80 and getting small). Would you say it fits small, large, TTS? I would have it shipped directly to her.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm conditioned to not order without FS. I do so many returns that it's not worth it to me to pay almost $20 just to try stuff on.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I went in to do returns this AM and was sad to give back my poor beat up Jaspe (and a ton of other stuff that I wasn't sad about.) Seems like there were quite a few people doing returns in line behind me, one lady had two boxes so I was in good company! I re-bought the sleeveless jersey ruffled front dress, I decided I liked it at thirty dollars, although I didn't care for it fifty dollars worth earlier this fall. It was one of those impulse shopping moments when I decided I needed it as it would look so good with the sweater I have on. The dress is Heather Latte and it just matches some of the clocks on a printed cardi I got from Anthro and they look really cute together. I would have been likely to place a decent order this morning with JC if I'd been greeted with free ship on my account or if it'd been included in the promo, but no dice.

Just for kicks, I did a combined CC and JC cart, and you only pay shipping on the JC portion, if that helps anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The coupon worked for me on one of the supposedly excluded items (Sperry rainboots)!

  55. Change of topic here, but here's thanking all JCA- IRL models for a realistic and sometimes inspiring modeling.

  56. j.crew's methods offend my egalitarian soul. Like others, I didn't get free shipping, and like others, I will not pay shipping this time of year, because no other retailer is asking me to do so - nor at the ridiculous rate charged by j.crew.

I am happy for those two are getting 25% off and free shipping, but since it's obviously not that way for all, j.crew isn't getting a dime from me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I am not a cardholder and I have received every promo, including the gifts/cards from Mickey, the free shipping, gift boxes and monogramming presently on my account. I spend a fair bit and most of what I buy is full price or only slightly discounted, I am very wary of huge markdowns. I usually place a couple orders a month, occasionally more. My last order was for a collection skirt and four sweaters, all at full price. It was more than a week before the sweater promo so I didn't call for a price adjustment.

I will probably order a suit for my husband with this latest promo, maybe pick up the dusty blossom pencil skirt as well, it's the only one I don't have yet.

It seems like there is no rhyme or reason to the promos but I like to think that I make the cut due to buying more expensive pieces at full price. In my mind, I've paid for the free shipping through my purchases already. That said, if I can get 25% off a suit that is over $500 retail then I would buy it with or without free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Blerg...hate that there's no free shipping but I am in need of a winter coat (sold mine on Ebay b/c it no longer fit after having my baby!). Anyone have any thoughts on the double-cloth ingenue coat? I'm loving the spiced wine color! I searched this site but couldn't find any reviews on it...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lauren H - Ingenue coat review here:

    http://marisasmodernlife.blogspot.com/2009/11/where-is-my-bedazzler-ingenue-coat.html

I google the item name + blogspot to see if any bloggers have reviewed something I'm interested in.

  60. Laura --> I got the Wool Harbour Peacoat and found it fairly TTS. I am small-busted and found the body of it to be roomier than in the arms (more TTS), but I will be able to comfortably wear a sweater underneath.

It's a lovely coat, BTW, very soft and nicely made.

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I bought the Carlin coat. I tried it on in the store last week, so I know it fits. Even with the ridiculous shipping, it's still cheaper than in the store. I also stocked up on the favorite tanks--$5 each and they aren't weird reject colors.

    ReplyDelete
  62. plumdumm299, that's one my plaisures too. Yesterday night she was wearing the watercolor pencil skirt from last summer. Since next week is the "fall finale" and then they're going on a hiatus (probably until January or spring) I'm ready for some Jcrew spotting from the current season.

Re the promo and free shipping, I think that if they are offering FS to "special" customers (not me apparently but I know that there are people who spend much more than me) they should at least have a no minimum for this kind of promotion. But 25% off only on +150 orders and no free shipping is a good deal only if one knows for sure that there will be no returns in the order.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am not a cardholder and I was in the 1st group that received fs back in Oct.

This promo is only good if you have been waiting for a particular item to go on sale, by the time you pay shipping it is not that good of a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  64. A little birdie told me that the free shipping, free monogramming and "gifts" that are given out are based on the amount of money you spend and that it really has very little to do with whether or not you have a Crewcard. It is a combination of a) frequent purchases that are consistent throughout the year/ quarter, b) mostly buying full priced items, c) few returns- believe it or not there are quite a few people who have a pattern of buying and returning with J. Crew. They purchase an item at full price and keep it until it goes on sale at which point they return the item and repurchase it. I have been told by a legit J. Crew source that these three things are what J. Crew tracks and that is the basis of how they determine who gets what type of so called “reward”.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm over JC! Seriously-their offers stink! The 25% is wonderful and I had a cart full of Christmas items, but I REFUSE to pay $18 to have them shipped. I am done...done...done!
    Seriously!
    Banana...here I come!
I don't get Jcrew and why they think they are so special. It's like you have to be in their VIP club to get good deals, but nobody knows whos behind they need to kiss to get into the club!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well, I definitely meet a and c criteria by a landslide. I have placed about 30 orders in the past 2 1/2 months and I have only returned 3 items from those orders! But full priced items are only about 5. Their clothes are not worth full price by a long shot plus nothing I want has ever sold out!

My little birdie told me you have to spend over a thousand dollars per month.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have a J Crew card that I rarely use and I place one or two orders of 2-3 pieces a month during the fall and winter seasons (I never like their warmer weather clothing). I buy about 1/2 full price items and 1/2 at the first markdown or when they run a 20% off. My return rate is pretty awful - probably about 60-70% of internet buys and maybe 10% B&M mainly due to their poor fits and quality control. Still, I get free shipping offers constantly, always get the red cards and usually get the gifts. I still think a lot of the goodies they give out are purely luck of the draw as my total dollar amount certainly is not excessive.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hi fellow aficionadas, sorry for lame question, but I do not seem to find the answer elsewhere. When an item is backordered i.e. "expected to ship by", is Jcrew gonna charge another shipment fee, when it's finally shipped. Also do not you think it's strange, that some items are not expected to ship until next July! And it's not even a swimsuit.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Most of my orders are less than $125.00 per mt and I received the 1st promo, but a,b,& c do apply to me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes, site is down for me too. JCrew's web issues are just beyond POOR.

    ReplyDelete
  71. In regards to the criteria for gettin promos, I meet criteria
A and C, but no way to B, so that must be why I have never, ever recieved any of thier special promos.
In shopping with J Crew for 10+ years, I have only ever bought 1 thing at full price, that was a sweater in 1998, so I guess that doesn't count. Some people have an aversion to paying shipping charges, but I have an aversion to paying full price.
Darn you, J Crew! Very tricky! I may place over 5 orders a month, spending hundreds each time, and have a Platinum card, but I guess you got me on the full priced thing. I give up. You win. :(

    ReplyDelete
  72. J Crew website is having technical difficulties again. The dreaded "Stay Tuned - we are experiencing technical difficulties" sign is up.

    ReplyDelete
  73. A few things (maybe they've already been discussed but I haven't had time to read all the comments)...

    1) 30% off outerwear at the NYC 5th Ave Store. I ordered a black stadium cloth trench (b/c they only had navy and grey in store) on the red phone and got free shipping and the 30% off. I was very impressed w/ the quality of the coat.

    2) Just went to Ann Taylor Loft and found TONS of cute things (along the same lines as Jcrew... graphic tees, sweaters, pants/cords, silk tank tops) and they were a lot cheaper than jcrew.

    3) I refuse to pay shipping as well b/c I look at shipping as overhead that Jcrew should have to pay (i.e. similar to the rent they pay for their B&M stores and shipping they pay to stock their B&M stores from the warehouse).

    ReplyDelete
  74. PrettyBallerina --> No, they don't charge you a second shipping fee for waitlisted items.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Summer, seriously, $1000 per month?!! Wow. IMO, someone who regularly spends $1000 per month at JCrew likely has a serious shopping addiction. If that's what it takes to get free shipping, I'm glad I don't qualify.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hi Colleen,

I am interested in purchasing the wool ruffle front coat but in the camel color which is only available online. Do you recall if the black coat is on sale in stores too? Maybe I can head in and order the camel coat from the red phone...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Emily, WOW, just wow. It is so good to have the rules broken down that way! I am absolutely guilty of frequent buying, but I am like Egyptomaniac and buy full price JC like once per decade, and I am a full blown JCRA, JC return-aholic. That's because I do over 75% of my shopping online, and on sale at that, and who's to say what fit or quality will be like. I rarely have to return anything bought at a B&M, unless I get a case of buyer's remorse. With JC, that remorse is usually due to an item going down in price online. I guess I am just part of the unwashed masses that gets no new goodies from JC. I used to get the $20 off $80 coupons plus free ship in my (way old) catalogs, and I got one of the red cards last spring, and an expired free ship code in the Oct. catalog, but I haven't gotten any of the codes at login ever. Like many, I would definitely have been more likely to buy with this promo if there was free shipping to go with the fact that so much has to be returned.

  79. i got myself a mini campo to make up for all of the items that i didn't love. :)

i did quite a few returns today because most of the items didn't fit right at all! its so sad when you think something will look great on you and it comes out looking completely different!! and the sizing... ugh! so off!

the SA at my store was like, "did these just not work out?" and I was like, "EXACTLY."

And once again I received an item w/ NO TAG that definitely looked WORN! it had a makeup stain right on the collar!! i was so upset! why do they even bother sending this to a customer?!

i think im going to take a break from the crew. they just keep letting me down.

    ReplyDelete
  80. CheesyGoodness, I used to love those $20 off $80 catalog promos!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jeanne,

Yes, seriously, need to spend $1,000+ per month or so and if you read the JC blogs most people are buying full priced and large quantities of items and that amount is not hard to meet...if people have the money and money is not an issue I would not call it an addiction but....I don't judge. I just like reading the blogs and seeing IRL pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Just bought the metallic tweed mini bag! I was on the fence about it, but it reminds me of the cute Chanel bags that I will never be able to afford! I need to block the J. Crew website from my browser, I practically drool over it.

  83. snactres- Did you see the pics of the bag on my blog? It is lovely! I am carrying it today :D

  84. Heidi,
I don't think that is a lot either. Just commenting directly to another person's post that it seems like a lot...to some it is to others it is not....

  85. Thanks for some of the potential explainations about fs and other offers . . . I'm sure if I wanted to spend $1000 a month I could find enough clothes to buy but that's toooooo much in my reality. I like things to be discounted, makes me feel less guilty about shopping! Oh wellz for trying to figure it out exactly, maybe one day those of us who haven't gotten any freebies yet will :D Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  86. PS

I don't think most of JCrew's clothes are worth full price. Could I pay it yes but I feel like I would be wasting my money that could go towards other things! Like vacations and my child's education! I hate wasting money regardless!

  87. I took the plunge this morning and ordered the fresh plum pencil skirt, a sale necklace, and a crewcuts shirt for my niece. If it wasn't so close to Christmas and I didn't still need to buy gifts, I probably would have bought more.

  88. I'm kinda bummed by the negativity on here! And here I was so excited bc the hammered metal skirt popped back in my size! Of course I prefer free shipping, but when I really want something I'm willing to pay for it. And I couldn't pass this one up- plus, my raindeer tee came back! I wish I could stop loving that stupid tee, but I can't. The majority of the times I order, it's with a FS sale, but I also have never returned a single JC item... I'm sensing I'm in the minority on that.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Heidi, I'm not surprised that many people spend 1k+ per month on clothes. I'm surprised that many people apparently spend 1k+ per month at JCrew. I am fortunate enough to be able buy pretty much whatever I want, but I couldn't possibly find that many items at JCrew that I want or need. I can't even find anything to buy to take advantage of the Amex promotion. YMMV, obviously.

Ashley, receiving used items really annoys me. I've received dirty/used/obviously worn items from several retailers. I think they need to check out returns more carefully before they put the items back in stock.

BTW, I received the Steve Madden Melin shoes today. You may remember that I ordered up a full size. The shoes are really nice. There's no way my usual size would have fit, so thank you very much to those of you who recommended sizing up. I think 1/2 size would have been enough, but since the soles are quite thin and I have plenty of room, I think I'll add some padded insoles. I live in Manhattan and I do a lot of walking, so comfy is important.

  92. Not buying because, like others, I refuse to pay $15 for shipping. I want to get the perfect pencil skirt in dusty blossom and perhaps another color, or maybe that cute short sleeved wool dress from the sale section, and a tee shirt for my boyfriend. But, no. 25% off is more like 15% off when you add the cost of shipping. What a joke.

  93. I'm one that meets the full price criteria most often and also a consistent amount purchased per month/quarter. I hardly ever return items but I plan my wardrobe purchases and buy a lot of classic pieces, it helps to know what works and what doesn't. I'm not an impulse shopper, spontaneity has never been my strong suit. Things have to earn their way into my wardrobe with a cost/wearing payoff. If something that works but fits a little off I'll have it tailored if possible. I get the love from Mickey and all the J.Crew promos but I don't use them all, sometimes there is nothing I want and I do not get the Pavlovian response to buy just because it may be a deal. You can spend thousands getting great deals on things that don't work or spend the same on fewer fabulous pieces that really work to build up a terrific wardrobe over time. That's my goal.

I find it really interesting to hear about people's shopping habits. The topic has been discussed on this blog before and I always enjoy it. Living vicariously through others is part of JCA.

Now, will I take advantage of this promo? The stadium cloth boulevard trench is calling my name!

  94. Shannon, lovely review of the tweed bag! I'm glad I got it!

This is a general J. Crew question...when I ordered it, it said that it was expected to ship later this month (middle of December-ish), which made me think it was backordered. But once I checked the status, it said waitlisted. So is there a difference between backorder and waitlist...if there is a difference, is there a possibility of me not getting the bag??

  95. Colleen (and everyone else) -- I want to try the Ingenue Coat, unfort looks like it is online only. But you mentioned that at the NYC store, it's 30% off outerwear. Do you think if I went in there, I could order the ingenue coat with the 30% off?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Em,

You are right. I think this promo is a joke--15% off is about right when you pay for shipping.

    Jeanne,

I too have received dirty and obviously worn items from JCrew. I do 95% of my shopping online and have never received such items from any other retailer. So, I am curious where else have you received these types of "used" goods? Thanks:)

  98. I place a lot of orders, but return like 70% due to fit/quality issues. (Today I returned my disintegrating tissue stone necklace t). Also very rarely buy on sale, frequently waiting for at least 50% discount to buy. I re-buy stuff when it gets marked down deeper and I can't get a price adjustment. Despite this, I have still spent enough to have a silver card (though the threshold is not that high for that I think?) and get many of the promos and free gifts, but certainly not all of them.

There are a few items I want but am waiting for FS in addition to percent off because I also hate paying shipping on principle.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Cass: I second what you're saying.

Sometimes, I buy stuff, and don't wear it immediately on purpose because I know it's going to go down in price and I might need to reorder it.

For example, I bought the dread crewneck, for $88. I haven't worn it yet, but it's already marked down in price, by $20. I'm going to reorder it.

That happens with alot of J.crew stuff. Sometimes it's not even intentional. l bought the cute satin bow clutch. With the intention of taking it to some holiday parties. It went down in price twice since i've purcahsed it (and my first holiday party is coming up , so I haven't even had a chance to use it). It's about $25 now. So I re-ordered that too.

Just the games you have to play with j.crew i guess?

  100. Anyone know if the 30% outerwear is at all b&m or just the 5th ave store in NYC? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi All -- Has anyone bought the Ikat floral skirt? Any thoughts? Does it run TTs? Is it similar to the Red Watercolor Taffaeta Skirt from last year? Thanks!

  102. Genny, I've received a few used items from other retailers.

I received a used handbag from BR. The bag was on clearance and out of stock so I decided to keep it, but I probably should have requested an additional discount.

I also received a used handbag from Amazon. That bag was also marked down and out of stock. Amazon offered to either return it at their expense or a discount is I wanted to keep it. I decided to keep it.

I received used shoes from Zappos several years ago, but they were very apologetic and sent replacement shoes plus a $25 gift certificate.

I received a camisole from one of the online lingerie stores (I don't remember which one) that had actually been altered. Someone shortened the length by about 10 inches. The retailer refunded the purchase price and told me to throw away the camisole, which I did.

And I've received numerous clothing items that smelled of perfume or BO, but I'm not sure they were actually "used."

    ReplyDelete
  103. 30% off outwear is at all the b&ms, I think.

I also play the games that JCrew requires, and it irks me a little that I don't get the special promos, but at the end of the day I don't mind much. I would rather save money than get free necklaces.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Michelle-

I'm pretty sure I saw the ruffle front coat there but not in camel. I don't see why not since they gave me 30% off the black trench w/o batting an eye.

Din Din - I'm not sure if you could get the ingenue 30% off if it isn't in the store. I didn't see it there (maybe I missed it?)so I don't know how they would handle that. The SA's were really nice there though and even made the phone call for me - which probably helped.

Jmoon - I'm not sure if the other NY stores are offering 30% outerwear.

Sorry I can't be more help!

  105. For NYJCAs, if you please: I will be in Manhattan this weekend, staying right in midtown on 5th avenue. Would love to hear if you have a particular j.crew store to recommend in the neighborhood. Thanks!

  106. La Belle Helene-
Not a *real* NYCJA, but I spent a lot of time in the Madison Ave. store last fall (when I was on interviews) since it was a block or two from where the bus picked me up. They have a better selection than the store by Rockefeller Center, IMHO. And one of the sales assistant's remembered me and gave me loads of help putting together some items. It was generally pretty quiet the many times I visited, as well, so much nicer to browse!

  107. OT - the Martha Stewart video on Holiday Gifts featuring Jenna Lyons and JCrew is available online. I apologize if someone has posted the link already.

    http://www.marthastewart.com/show/the-martha-stewart-show/holiday-gifts

As for the latest promo, I am watching for a few popbacks and will place an order if I can get up to the minimum. Happy shopping to all!

  108. The lack of FS (or at least FS for most) does make this a little less appealing.

I have a question though--does anyone know about the fitting of the petite sizes? I've noticed that I've been sized out of regular zeros for blouses; they always look so boxy and billowing. Are the petites a little more fitted, or just shorter in the torso and sleeves? I might have to make the switch if they fit better--at 5'4 I think I barely make the cut. Thanks!

  109. Thanks very much, Amanda :-)

p.s. Math teacher, I have the fresh plum perfect skirt & love it. It's just a fabulous color.

  110. I want to drink the Crewlade - but the shipping is just so darn expensive! The discount took almost $80 off my order, but then it cost another $20 for shipping! It doesn't sweeten the deal much...hmm. I think I'll hold out!

    ReplyDelete
  111. xoxo, thanks for the Martha link, I'd forgotten to watch it until now.

Is it just me or does Jenna look like Anne Ramsey, who was on Six Feet Under and Dexter?

I don't mind the messy hair on the kids at all, but for some reason it bugs the heck out of me on adults. The kids are SO cute in their CC outfits! I wish someone would bring me a wagon full of sweaters...

    ReplyDelete
  112. Thanks Priya and Colleen! I think I'll head over to the b&m tomorrow just in case I luck out with the in store discount. Jeesh i just can't justify paying almost $20 in shipping on a $200+ item! Ridiculous! I'm hoping J Crew will take a hint since judging from these comments here and the ones on their fb page people are getting pretty disgruntled... womp womp.

  113. I'm on the fence about finally buying the coat I've really wanted-The Stadium Cloth friday Coat. I don't want another repeat of last year when I waited to long and the ones I wanted disappeared before I pulled the trigger. Also, the coat is not available at the B&M.
    I just don't know if I should.
Of course there will be a much better deal after I pull the trigger.

  115. I'll weigh in on this chatter... I've been getting most, if not all, of the discounts offered lately. I got the red cards, little gifts and the trio of goodies on this latest promotion. I won't disclose how much I spend at JC, but it's nowhere near $1k per month. However, I do most (but not all) of my shopping at FP (with a student discount) and I do very few returns. My size tends to go quickly, so I buy what I like pretty fast when it comes out. Also, I work with a PS at my local store and shop almost exclusively with her. So, I think trying to guess why certain customers get certain discounts is probably a shot in the dark. 99% of my wardrobe is JC, with the exception of denim. This is my experience with them, so hopefully someone will find it helpful.

  116. Priya Cherry, I have the Ikat skirt and think it runs true to size. The colors are warm and very pretty. Note though that the skirt is without stretch material, so there isn't any give if you're in between sizes. Also, it will show creasing if you should sit. Finally, I wouldn't contend that the skirt is warmest for the winter.

I can't comment on how it compares to last year's similar skirt since I'm not familiar with it.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Natalie - in my experience the petites are equal or a little more than 1 size down, eg a 2P is equiv or smaller than a regular 0, with a slightly shorter length. I was surprised at first when getting measurements over the phone that a 2P was < 0. For most cami's the armholes and *sometimes* chest are smaller as well.

I'm 5'4" and when I walked into AT last, the SA announced to me petites were upstairs. ; )p ironically at AT I prefer 00 or 0 than petites for skirts and dresses! HTH!

  120. Laura -- I bought the wool harbor peacoat today, because (note, everyone!) my b&m had 30% off outerwear. The peacoat is great. It's a little shorter than last year's. The collar lays down nicely. I sized up. I'm either a 2 or 4 and took the 4 in this. The 2 was a bit tight in the chest and shoulders. The thinsulate version is definitely worth it for warmth. It doesn't add much bulk at all.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Wolfy, I felt the same way as you and I went ahead and pulled the trigger this morning on the Friday coat. My main concern was that it would sell out in my size (0) and color (heather graphite)--and sure enough, I just checked and it's gone.

My thought was also that it's better to order it and return it if somehow a better deal pops up (and then I can order it again and return the first one) than to have no shot at getting it. And I've been wanting this coat since I first saw it in the catalog.

There may be a better deal--maybe 30% with fs somewhere down the line--but if you love the coat, and your size/color preferance goes quickly, I'd buy now. If you can take it or leave it, then I think it'd be worth waiting for a different offer. Just my .02.

  122. Happy Friday - it's review time!

    1. Chambray popover (20966) - very cute, thin but good for layering. Same material as the contrast-stitch perfect shirt but I didn't like the chest pockets on that one. I'd say this is TTS - I ordered a small and it is relaxed but not sloppy. The XS would probably have been tight in the shoulders.

    2. Slub-cotton sequin tee (20485) - I just had to see this one IRL. The cotton is thicker than last year's snowflake tee, and the sequins seemed to be sewn on pretty tight. The only thing I didn't like was that the snowflake that the sequins were applied to was raw-edged (AGH!) but that might not matter to most. Also, the center of the snowflake is more blue than in the picture online which looked a little odd to me.

    3. Merino crewneck stripe sweater (20376) - I got the black/shore pink, which is a cute color combination but just didn't look quite right on me. The stripes looked kind of "fuzzy" (like the sweater had been handled/shop-worn) and the buttons on the cuffs/back collar were actually quite heavy! I was surprised at how heavy they were. I could see the weight potentially splitting the sweater seams after a while.

    Hope this helps someone!

  123. Thanks Cleo26!! That really helps -- I think I'm going to pass on the skirt for now until there is a free shipping code. I'm worried about the give.

I did purchase the watercolor leopard skirt with the orchid jackie set. I'm excited to get that!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Hi silver_lining, thanks for the great reviews, I was wondering about the chambray popover whether it was thin or not.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Priya Cherry, when i wrote of the give, i only meant that the material mades the skirt not as malleable as say the perfect pencil skirt, but it would work wearing the right size.

That being said, i think you made an excellent choice with the watercolor leopard. It's gorgeous, and made of a heavier fabric. The dried orchid will be beautiful with this skirt. (I have a cardigan in that color, and can confirm that it matches well. :)) I wore mine with a dark lavender shirt, however, and black deco belt.

  126. This might be helpful for some, but I had been eyeing the stadium cloth boulevard trench for a while, was going to buy it with this promo, and then balked at the shipping. I went today into my b&m and they had 30% off "select" outerwear, although it looked like almost all the coats were part of the sale. They were completely out of the boulevard trench, so I asked the SA if they could order it for me. Customer service ended up honoring the in-store 30% AND i got free shipping...(AND i'm not even sure if the coat would have been part of the 30% off in store sale if they had had it in stock). Definitely worth a shot though if you live near one.
