J.Crew Card Members {take note!}

A big "thanks!" to Janell (in this post) who shared the following news:
WARNING to all J.Crew credit card holders....I just received a letter from World Financial Network National Bank (J.Crew CC holder) about and update to their terms.

** the newest term...
$1.00 processing fee for each paper statement you receive. Just wanted to make sure all other JC card holders were aware of this new fee as I almost threw my letter out, thinking it was junk mail.
A big "thanks!" also to Molly Darling (in this post) who shared:
WFNNB, the bank behind J.Crew's credit card (along with most major retailers) sent out a notice today with some information about finance charges (I didn't look that over too carefully because I don't carry a balance) but I did see that effective Jan 29, you will be charged $1 per paper statement. I'm sure many of us already receive e-statements, but I wanted to make sure all the JCAs are aware. :)
Just something to keep in mind if you are a J.Crew credit card holder. Maybe now is the time to go completely electronic (in terms of statements) since there is a charge. (Although, I personally like getting a paper statement. I know it wastes trees, but there is something about seeing it in actual print.) :)

  2. I've heard of discounts for going paperless, but not charges for receiving paper statements. Has anyone heard of the same from other businesses? Charging a new fee for continuing with paper statements, that is. With this, I'll be scanning all of my notices from other companies for any fine print noting additional fees about the paper statements.

  4. Just FYI-

I also got this notice. The interest rate is going up to a whopping 24.99% (I believe at the end of January). Also, at some point next year (can't remember the date), the maximum cap for interest will be removed. I interpreted this to mean that the int rate could go even higher. Oy.

  5. They're charging us for the privilege of receiving a bill? Sheesh. I know $1 isn't much, but it just seems like salt in the wound.

  6. Well, we wanted something special for having a J.Crew Card and now we've got it. A fee to receive your bill and out of control APRs. Fantastic.

  7. Thank you!!!! I thought it was another privacy notice.

And it has me wondering again why I have the card. There's really no benefit other than the quarterly rewards. I'm not sure they're worth the other hassle.

  8. The high interest rate and the fact that they charge you $10 to pay over the phone has me seriously considering canceling the card.

  9. As a card holder this is very upsetting. I chose to start receiving paper copies again after my accounting irregularities on their end.. I am about to cancel this card.. I hate it. Not only that but, if you pay the exact day you are due there is a $10.00 service charge. THE DAY You are DUE! Should not be that way. Also, if your payment is due on a Sunday. Its actually due the business day before the Sunday, Friday. Because Sunday is blocked out as a day to process payments. So basically if you use Bank of America Bill Pay or any of the others your need to make the payment 1 1/2 weeks before your due date just to get the payment processed before a blocked out date. It is a very WEIRD retail card.. so many fees and tricks.

  10. Yeah. I guess I'm old-fashioned kind of gal because I totally get paper copies of all my bills bills bills. I know we live in a paperless world, but I just feel more comfy having my accounts in my hand rather than in cyberspace where hackers lurk.

  11. I also find their paperless statements very confusing to decipher. I've been paperless with other companies and for some reason, the syntax WFNB uses on their e-statements always makes me do a double take.

Well, at least JC is consistent...they have somehow managed to find the one perfect credit card company that exemplifies their service...over-charge and (sometimes) underperform! :D

  12. I will add, all snarkiness aside, that I have received very good customer service when I have had to call about information or questions on my JC card. The CS reps have been very helpful and friendly. Not sure if it's worth *paying* $1/month or the inconvenience of same-day bill pay, but for what it's worth, I thought I would mention it!

  13. Thanks so much for this info. I, too, did not read my notice. I will be reading all notices in the future (the future just got a lot more boring!). Very annoying - but I just read that Great Britain is going to do away with checks all together in the future.

  14. I will admit this is making me reconsider whether the rewards are really worth it to me, as well. I mean, I know that if I do the math they are (5% in rewards points plus free alterations, which I do use), but it's really more the principle of the matter. They need to work on making card holders feel valued, rather than penalized.
