J.Crew Email: 2 days left. 25% off your order of $150+. Online only.

"Thanks!" to Marietta who shared the following email sent this morning. J.Crew is reminding us of their offer for 25% off on orders of $150+ with promo code GIFTS. This offer expires Sunday, 12/6/09, at mid-night. :)

From the comments in yesterday's post (refer here), this promotion is getting mixed reviews. Some JCAs enjoy the new promotion and are getting some coveted items on their wish-lists, like Winter coats. However, it sounds like many more JCAs are not placing orders as they are dissuaded by the shipping costs. Which I completely understand. Even after the 25% discount is applied, most of the savings is lost when the shipping & handling is tacked on.

Oddly enough, I just got an email from Ann Taylor and they are also running an offer of 25% off on orders of $150+ *with* free shipping (just use promo code PRESENTS). It's like they saw J.Crew's offer and raised it some. ;)

I *do* think it is a great promotion, especially for those JCAs making large purchases and those with free shipping for logging-in their accounts. :) But to be honest, I haven't taken advantage of this offer so far and probably won't either. There is nothing I "have-to-have" right now. And even though there are a few items I am interested in, the thought of paying for shipping for those items is a deterrent for me as well. (Slightly off topic... but during the phase of Facebook free-shipping-no-minimum-codes, I was buying stuff almost every other day. It is amazing how free-shipping-no-minimum codes will change my attitude on purchasing!) ;)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? If yes, what items you are hoping to pick up? If no, how come? :)

  1. I happen to have an appointment to dry on wedding dresses at my local B&M this weekend. If I find one I like I think I'll be using this promo to order it. Even with the shipping costs I'll still be saving a few hundred dollars!

  2. Alexis,

Like you there are things I am interested in but not so much that I want to pay shipping. I am hoping that this promo does not go over well and people don't buy--maybe then JC will have 25% off AND free shipping on Sunday the last day of this promo. They have done this a couple of times in the past! So hold out on those purchases!

Also, Land's End has 25% off everything AND free shipping through Monday! Way to go other retailers. I placed 2 LE orders this week and another one for Macy's b/c of 25% off and free shipping there too.

  3. Alexis - I totally agree! I picked up a lot of items during the glorious days of facebook codes - a jackie cardigan here, a marked down tee there... I think my next door neighbor (we share a split house and porch) was ready to stage an intervention :)

Ann Taylor got some items I've been watching for awhile now. I'm disappointed to see they took down the sweater promo they had yesterday (some were $25 and others $50)... that would have got me to order for sure.

  4. It may be separate from this offer, but J.Crew is giving me the "Free Standard Ship, Free Monogramming & Free Gift Wrapping" offer through logging into my account. There's no code for that, just a log in. I was able to use this WITH the 25% off, and have taken advantage of it. I saved HUGE. You may want to log into your account and see if you have this available to you. I used this yesterday & today (on 2 different orders) and they were applied both times. I also sent a gift boxed (free) item to my mom, splitting the order, and had the rest of the order sent to me, and I STILL didn't pay for shipping.

  5. I don't plan to buy anything at the JCrew sale. The only things I'm even considering at this point are a couple more perfect fit tees, black and possibly white, and that doesn't come close to the $150 minimum.

Summer, I checked out the Lands' End sale, but I'm hoping they will have their heritage cashmere as a "St. Nick's Pick," so I'm holding out. I picked up a ridiculous number of cashmere sweaters last year for $85 each. I usually buy the more unusual colors on clearance for less than that, but this was a great opportunity to pick up some basic neutral colors that never go to the clearance section. I'm hoping for a great price on cardigans in black and navy. Again, I don't really need them, but I'd like to have them.

  6. I too have bought something every other days with the FB codes ...

It doesn't look like people are buying like crazy this time because I still have the same amount of items in my shopping cart than yesterday. Maybe they are very unpopular items, still it's quite unusual...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jeanne,

That would be a great St. Nick's pick. I like checking to see what they have everyday.

I got my sister a $49.50 polar fleece for $15 on one of the first days they started this promo. It was an insane deal and the shirt is so high quality.

I love LE cashmere too. I don't mind getting the unusual colors on super sale either. Even my daughter has their cashmere. When it is on super sale even for a child it is worth it. Where we live is super cold as well.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I bought about every other day as well with the Facebook codes.

What broke my JC addiction was the end of the free shipping no minimum codes a long while back. Remember those days????

Anyway, if they do offer free ship I know I will buy a couple of things as gifts (not myself) but without free ship no deal.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jeanne,

I picked up a white perfect fit tee during the facebook code period. I would not have bought it without the code so I totally get your point.

Yes, hold out and keep checking to see if you coveted sweater goes on sale at LE. What nice cashmere they have!

  10. Ditto Heidi- I love the 60 return policy! I buy a lot but also return a lot! I like to bring stuff home and see how it fits into my current closet. I also have a rule that if I haven't worn it after a month or so then I return it. Chances are I am not going to wear it a lot in the long run. I recently discovered the hard way that Gap changed their policy. I don't buy many of my clothes there (due to my extreme J crew obsession) but a TON of my kids clothes and you now have 30 days and then no return no credit NOTHING-I don't like it and it will change how I shop there.

Back on topic on this post... I do have the Free ship in my account and have used this promo one too many times.... lots of great crewcuts deals and a few gifts.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kristin, that is a great idea... when you are spending $500, or $1000, or $2000, spending $25 on shipping is no big deal. I hope you find a dress you like... I looove their wedding dresses and hope to get married in one :)

I am not using this promo. Without free shipping, it's pretty lame. Boo.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow,

I remember when JCrew had a no time limit return policy. No time limit. I buy MUCH LESS now that it has changed to 60 days. Too short of a time frame for me! Most retailers I shop at offer a longer time frame than 60 days! Interesting how things differ in people's eyes....

    ReplyDelete
  13. There are some pretty pointed comments on J.Crew's facebook page. Do you think they'll get the point? Lots of comments about bad sales and too high shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Kristin,
I bought my wedding dress after trying it on at a B&M and I didn't have to pay shipping since the store ordered it for me. Might as well do it that way and really save!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I also bought alot during the fb codes, and I not ordered from JC since then, I think it is the longest I have gone without ordering. I am only coveting 1 item to go on sale, and even then I want fs to bring the price down.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kristin, you can ask the SA to offer you the 25% promo and free shipping! I did it before with the 25% red card when I was buying the special occasions dress. Unfortunately, I returned the dress.
It's still a full price item after all and I'm sure the SA can help you to save the $18.50+taxes shipping cost! Hope this helps!

  17. J.Crew will accept returns after 60 days, you just get a credit/gift card instead of cash. I think their policy is pretty good. From the Help page on their website:

    our guarantee
We guarantee our merchandise to be free of manufacturing defects and will accept any defective item for refund or exchange.

All in-store returns/exchanges in accordance with this policy require a government-issued ID and an original receipt to receive cash/check refund. Returns without an original receipt also always require a government-issued ID.
within 60 days of original purchase:

J.Crew gladly accepts returns of unworn, unwashed, undamaged or defective merchandise for full refund. Refunds must be accompanied by the original receipt and will be made in the form of the original payment. If the original receipt is unavailable, we'll make an exchange or issue a merchandise credit based on the current selling price.

after 60 days of original purchase:

J.Crew will gladly make an exchange or issue a merchandise credit for the price at the time of sale (with original receipt) or for the current selling price (without original receipt).

  18. The other retailers I shop all offer no time limit: Land's End, LL Bean and Kohl's.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I only ordered Crewcuts items(free shipping!) . I didn't get the login FS promotion... maybe I order too often and return too much...?
I'm just glad it's not final sale and I have 60 days.
I kind of stopped shopping from Gap and Banana since they changed the policy( retail 30 days, online 45 days)

    ReplyDelete
  20. casual-crew,
There is only one item I want to. It is already on sale and gone down through two markdowns...just waiting for free ship to buy it but without free ship no deal...we will wait and see...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Any promotion is welcomed by me, in a loving a spendy embrace. However, I have to say that it would be nice if was just 25% off, full stop. Minimums for a % off is a wee bit scroogey IMO. Sure I *could* spend 150 (and would have fun doing it), but darn it, I don't want to!

    ReplyDelete
  22. ^ I have to say, the codes I'm finding really handy these days are the no-minimum FB shipping codes. So great for small purchases I wouldn't otherwise make.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I just ordered the Crinkle Cascade Dress - I saw it in the store earlier this week and thought it was even prettier in person!! It's so weird though - it is still $250 at the store, but only $178 online ($133 with the discount code!!!)

Another weird thing - the Minnie pants were 79.50 when I bought them a couple of months ago, but now I see that they are 89.50. What is up with the price hike?? Not cool!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. They raised the price on those pants b/c they are a best seller. Mickey mentioned this and they know that they can get top $ for this item!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I called the red phone today and asked if I can use my teacher's discount along with the 25% off promotion. The mean CS said, 'no, can't be combined'. Then I asked if I can get free shipping since I was placing an order from the store. He said, 'no' to that one too. Oh well. Never hurts to ask. I guess the Harbor Peacoat will have to wait until it really goes down.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I just tried the crinkle cascade dress on at the j.crew at Rockefeller Center, after going ice skating at the rink :-) It was marked $178 in the store. Pretty, but like 95% of j.crew's dresses, the torso sits too high for me, and so I end up looking as round-bellied as a grinch, to be seasonal. Not a look to which I aspire. ... also tried on the stardust sequin skirt, but ... it's sooo thin! And as much as I think the reindeer tee is adorable, again, could j.crew have gone with a thinner cotton? And they want nearly $50 for it! To those who have it, how do you wear it? I mean, the whole purpose is to see that cute little rudolph, but the shirt itself is fit for july weather, not the month leading up to December, at least not in my cold climate.

What a treat to window shop on 5th avenue, though - the displays are just breathtaking.

  27. OT -->

Can anyone comment on the "bright olive" colour of the Wool Duffle Coat? Is it very bright IRL, or is it as subdued as the photo on JC.com?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I totally agree on not ordering w/o an added free shipping. It realy does defeat the purpose of the percentage off. Like you, Alexis, I was ordering something almost every day with the FB free shipping and then when my log in allowed the Free shipping, I was doing some damage, too! I'll check out other places where I'm actually getting a deal.

  29. It's not the greatest offer but it's better than nothing if you have your heart set on something. I typically pick up coats and bags during these if I really want the item. I ordered the Mini Campo this time, not crazy about the 14.50 shipping, but still better than FP.

I am also a LE cashmere fan. The cut is a little boxier than JC but the quality is top notch!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ruffles,
You are right in general about the promo. I just REFUSE to pay for shipping at all at anytime. I bought a ton of gifts for family from other sites that have free ship no minimum on Cyber Monday. I had a ball!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I noticed that JCrew made the sale their "home" front page today...hmmm...interesting....

    ReplyDelete
  32. i pulled the trigger this morning . . .I was in my b&m store this week and bought an item full-price that I LOOOVE . . .like many of you, I don't pay full price for JCrew very often unless I think it will sell out (like the reindeer tee in hazelnut) . . .anyhoo, I re-bought my purchase with the 25% off online and the savings covered the shipping for the rest of the 'stuff'; the only way I could justify payng for shipping . . .I HATE having to play games like this, but JCrew forces us into these situations when their prices and promotions online and in stores are not is sync.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does anyone have any feedback on Macy's cashmere?

They have a friends and family on-line promotion (MACYSFRIEND) with 25% off and free shipping over $99.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Speaking of the heart Frances cami. I ordered it the morning it hit the site and finally got around to trying it yesterday. I am in love! The pattern is really adorable and the fabric looked better on this than it did on the solid ivory and purple that I ordered and returned. It looks really cute with dark jeans and a red or black cardi.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The price of shipping is almost what some people pay for 1/2 a tank of gas! Can't justify paying for shipping in that case.

    ReplyDelete
  36. AP article in the paper this a.m.: "There was a time when free shipping was a rare deal. This holiday season, you might feel it's your right as a paying customer."

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wendy,

    Excellent point.

I keep hoping for a percent off and free shipping. I mean others have both when logging into their account and are getting it. If one is spending over $100 at least shipping should be free.

If the stuff disappears from my cart so what. I am willing to wait for both:) and it it never comes...oh well....

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hexicon,

Yes, I am feeling it is "my right!" Thanks for the post:)

    Happy Holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  39. freeshipping.org

freeshippingday.com is Dec. 17 when lots of companies will offer free ship

    Hexicon,

Found the article. Lots of good info. as well as listing of companies that offere free shipping and the above two sites.

The article is good. I just googled
AP free shipping article Dec. 5 2009 and found it:)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Genny-

Sometimes it is about principles and ones convictions. You are right, 'if the stuff in your shopping cart disappears, so what?' Must hold out for what you want! It won't be the end of the world. I always think about the people who are out of a job who can't pay their bills much less for something from J. Crew or who has terminally ill loved ones. It can always be worse. I am holding out too.

  41. Does anyone have an idea what lipstick the model on Holiday catalog cover is wearing?

She's on the cover of the Holiday catalog (mine is red and she's wearing a lime beanie) and the only model on the first 38 pages.

I want that lipcolor. Any ideas where I could find out?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wendy,

Yes, way to keep things in perspective! (My brother has been out of work for over a year.) Thanks for the post!

  43. I placed an order with this code on the first day it came out - there was a big sale update EARLY in the morning and I picked up a couple of tees along with a gift. I wasn't too bothered by the shipping because eveything I ordered was drastically marked down. Looking forward to an additon % off next week, hopefully.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Has anyone tried the sequin starland tank who can comment on the quality and the fit? I'm interested in the navy/black one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 30% off outerwear is going on in stores and I was able to order over the phone and have them apply the promotion. They also accepted my student discount so in total it was 45%.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 30% off plus an additional 15% off on top of that does not work out to 45%

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sorry to be a stickler but the teacher in me couldn't let that one slide:)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I saw the (big?) update this morning but there wasn't anything I had to have that hadn't been sitting in my shopping bag already.

Nice to see others are finding the deals they want though:)

  49. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks for the correction...lol.

What I meant was in addition to the 30%, they are accepting student discounts :-) Not a bad deal at all for those who can get to a store.

I also noticed a good amount of socks were on sale as well in store. I wish online would reflect what's in store more.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm out until it's 20% or 25% off + free shipping, or extra 20% off sale items + free shipping, no minimum. Come on J Crew! Get it together. bad enough stores are unapologetically ripping off your designs left and right, but now you're penalizing me for having a big ol' basket full of goodies too. BOOOOO

    ReplyDelete
  52. Good afternoon all. I am cleaning outmy closet and looking to post some items FS on Monday. What's the best way to go about using photo wih my post? Is it easiest to use a link to Polyvore?

    TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Rae--I ordered the starland tank in navy/black. The tank is really pretty! I tried in alone at the fit was okay (a little boxy but TTS). However, being that it is winter here in Michigan I began trying on the tank layered over tops or under sweaters. By the time I was done trying in on with my wardrobe the seam in the lining had unravelled and the chiffon that chiffon that attaches the sequins to the tank has frayed. For a $138 tank, this unacceptable. So, back to jcrew it goes (not sure I will be able to return, but will try)!

  54. If I had to guess the lipstick, I say NARS. One of Jenna's picks is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square...or try their lipstick in Heatwave. narscosmetics.com

  55. Tracy,

I agree. Would love some sale socks. When I used to live near a store I don't remember them being on sale. I would buy some now though!

Nice that stores give you the discount. Online is so much more srict!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yep, definitely went with this promo. Snagged the cotton check shirt in light slate (they must have restocked, then promptly sold out again), a cable vneck and the tiered silk cami in toffee.

Waiting out this promo in hopes of a better one in the next day or two or weeks ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ema,

I agree. Was hoping for that today. Bummer:(

Maybe we will be happy tomorrow with a deal:)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Din Din-

The ingenue coat is catalog only. I have been to the flag ship store in SF and the SA said you must order it on line. I have found that they restock some of the sizes early in the morning. I guess you would have to keep checking. I bought my mom the spice wine and she absolutely loves it! Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  66. math teacher -
I def. took advantage of this one. They had so many cute sweaters and basics - I'd been waiting like something like this from someone out there! too bad it wasn't Jcrew, since I've got loads in my shopping cart.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Happy Sunday everybody :)
I just came back from my B&M where I ordered my beloved ruffle front wool coat from the red phone. I wanted to camel color which is only available online. For anyone who is curious they will allow you to use BOTH the 30% off AND your 15% student discount + free shipping. Even though outerwear is on promotion is it still able to be combined with your student discount because it does not end in .99--at least this is how the SA explained it to me. Definitely worth it if you are close to a store. I don't know how long the outerwear sale is but hopefully it will last through the week

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am definitely taking advantage because I receive free shipping, monogramming, and gift wrapping through my account.

Does anyone know how the boyfriend blazer fits? I think I may take advantage of the discount and free shipping with an investment piece such as the boyfriend blazer.

  69. 1) Dropping off a GAP code to save 25% off your entire purchase. Looks like a one-time use: B6BV48RD84K8. There are restrictions, i.e. no sale on ProductRed and whatever their usual exclusions are.

    2) I did a roundup of sale items that I've reviewed irl. The post is here: http://gigisgoneshopping.blogspot.com/2009/12/j-crew-25-off-ends-today.html

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh -- I think the GAP code expires today.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thanks for all the info. Gigi:)

Good point about the Eden and the promo price. However, if people are on the fence OR don't have free shipping (if I did I would get it) I would wait for it to GO DOWN more eventually. Most if not all sizes and colors still available....I see a super sale on this one in the future...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Lyssa, just FYI, the Boyfriend Blazer is not fully lined. For some reason they decided to save money on fabric and leave the shoulders lined but not the back. Just plain black fabric. I returned mined because of this (full price) but it might not bother anyone else.

  73. Thanks JA, I will try Nars out.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I seriously cannot stand J crew's shipping policy. They are awful! and you know what, I don't buy their argument that it costs more to make. A lot of J. Crew's products are sized huge and are ill-fitting. They need to get off their high horse!!! Why do they even off 25 off when you barely get any discount when you factor in their extremely high shipping costs?? Its infuriating!

    ReplyDelete
  75. OT, but does anyone know what J. Crew's boxing day sales are usually like? Trying to decide if I should hold out til the post X-mas sales...

    ReplyDelete
  76. My solution: I buy at the B&M, only buy online with free ship, and only buy sale items. So all the lovely Holiday stuff I will wait till spring to get (if anything is left) and I am stocking up now with last seasons summerwear. I will always be a season behind, and not pay full price for anything :) Does anyone else do this?

    ReplyDelete
  77. ^I do, but some things i get a little earlier than one full season behind if i really want it and i know it will sell out quickly

    ReplyDelete
  78. Laura,
That would bother me! Thanks for the tip.

  79. JCrew makes HUGE profits from their high shipping costs...I read an article of year or so ago and it had the actual figures. Amazing how much profit they make off us charging us so much!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have an unused Gap 25% off code that expires today, too, if anyone wants it. They're also offering free shipping on orders of $50 or more across all their brands. One time use code: PPVTBVVTHL2J. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks Lauren~I really wish they had more of the Madewell version, but there is only a size 12 left.

If anyone is interested in a GAP order--here is my code: LZWGRG89QDF8

I am waiting on a BR sale to come out...have some things in my shopping cart.

  82. I suppose that J. Crew does continue to profit from their shipping charges. Other companies such as Garnet Hill have similar shipping costs - Garnet Hill almost never has free shipping promos. While we're complaining about J.Crew, other folks are apparently placing orders.

    ReplyDelete
  83. SE Mom,

I see lots of complaints on Facebook about the shipping charges too. Yeah, some are ordering but there are a lot that aren't as well....

  85. Just received a thin catalog with the little note in the corner which said "it's on us." Was so excited that I finally received a free shipping coupon. Thought to check the exp date and of course it is NOVEMBER 1st. What???

    ReplyDelete
  86. So does Jcrew usually have awesome deals the day after Thanksgiving? Thanks for any info.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ahh sorry I meant Christmas NOT thanksgiving 'cause they clearly never had any percent off especially for Black Friday...

    ReplyDelete
  88. I got one of those catalogs too this week.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sub-par quality strikes again - my cotton check shirt in vintage navy didn't even last ONE TIME through the washer. J. Crew's Q.C. dept is REALLY a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ashley, what exactly happened to your shirt? I've been thinking about buying the checked shirt and I expected a plain cotton shirt to last a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Jeanne - The stitching on the back right shoulder seam has frayed and is working itself around the armhole. I am of the same mindset as you - if I pay THAT MUCH (!) for a cotton shirt, I expect to wear it through a couple of seasons, much less a couple of wears. Truly disappointed because this shirt is now sold out. I was able to order the gray one on Saturday, so we'll see if it holds up any better =/

    ReplyDelete
  92. Ashley,

Really sorry to hear that about your shirt.

I keep reminding myself that all JC's stuff is made in China and these workers are probablly under serious stress with poor working conditions.

It is sad to see JC's quality really go down hill and fast and they seem to be oblivious to it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Genny - I agree. For a retailer such as J. Crew I expect high quality goods. I have bought shirts at Target that hold up better.

    ReplyDelete
  94. ITA, Ashley. I understand the raw edge chiffon and beads coming apart in the wash, but that should never be an issue with a cotton shirt. They need to be able to withstand commercial laundries!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am even thinking of handwashing one of the very thin fabric perfect shirts I just got. I just looked at it carefully and some armhole stitching looks a bit loose. Wore it once time too!

  96. Sorry to read about your shirt Ashley.

With all the quality concerns, JC will be changing their garments to Dry Clean Only because they fall apart in the wash. What crappy quality!

Reading these posts along with my own experiences is curing me once and for all of my JC addiction!

  97. Part of me thinks that this is honestly JC's MO: if your shirt didn't fall apart in the wash, then maybe you wouldn't buy a shirt from their latest rollout. It doesn't matter to them if items are poorly made, because to them you shouldn't be wearing them more than once, anyway - but dropping more $$ on the newest arrivals.

(hee hee, casual-crew... could you tell I was coming? ;)
