J.Crew Email: Go ahead, make her day...

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Rosa, Desert Flower, & Marietta, who shared the following email.

J.Crew is not only reminding us that Mother's Day is just around the corner (May 9th), but also offering a few suggestions for gifts. The email features their "totally unique hand-done jewelry" (click here to shop online).

The necklaces shown are the Crystal Patch Necklace (Item 27992; $128.00) and the Crystal Bib Necklace (Item 27983; $150.00). Both are clearly statement pieces.

For my personal style, they are both over the top. Unfortunately, I do not think I could get enough wear out of them to justify their prices. Instead, the necklace I absolutely adore from the new roll-out is the Troca Shell Strand (Item 29072; $50.00). Clearly I am not the only one, because this necklace is already wait-listed! :)

What are some of your suggestions for {great} Mother's Day gifts? Will you be checking out the Jewelry section? Are there any items you are interested in? If so, please share. :)

  1. My mother would prefer a REAL jewelry rather than costume ones that cost this much.
I'm doing photo books & flowers for mom & MIL this year.

I don't care much for this season's jewelry. It lacks quality and any uniqueness.
I do have the Martha necklace & bracelet on my wish list. ;-P

  2. The Crystal Carlyle necklace and bracelet are gorgeous!

The Prism & Majesty ladder bracelets caught my eye as well.

  3. Not a fan of JCrew's jewelry. Like jcrewphd said...you can get the REAL thing for the crazy prices JCrew asks....OR nice costume jewelry for less. I have noticed so many stores coming out with statement/similar pieces to JCrews for much less.

  4. My mother would die if I gave her J.Crew costume jewelery for mother's day. I bought her a beautiful Pucci scarf. That is something I know she will like and wear.

  5. Yes, my mum wouldn't be into the J.Crew jewelry. I have loved the larger crystal bracelets these last couple of seasons and have purchased many in different colors and styles. I also have and love the luxe cocktail bracelet, it's lovely and fun. It's interesting that I really don't see them worn around here where I live, and I find them a great finishing touch to an outfit. I have checked out the crystal bracelets from other retailers that are copycats to the J.Crew versions, but the finishes are not as refined or they are just not as nice a quality. I am all for their fun jewelry!

  6. I'm not a fan of oversized costume jewelry. I don't like the tackle-box look. Plus, it's heavy and uncomfortable to wear and it snags and rubs against my clothes. It's especially hard on cashmere sweaters. It will also be totally out of style and unwearable in a couple years. I prefer to spend my money on classic, real jewelry.

  7. Kumi,
I have found the exact opposite. The finish on JCrew jewelry comes off in time and is not as nice as other costume jewelry I own....

  8. I am not a big fan of costume jewelry. I'd rather own one real one rather than several fake ones, and, for that price, definitely not worth it!!!!!

  9. I would not want any JCrew jewelry for Mother's Day but just looked through the Talbots catalog and OH MY. Some really pretty pieces at good price points.

I also liked many of the clothes. Critters on shorts and capris like JCrew used to make. I have a closet full of JC so won't buy any Talbots but really cute.

  10. Summer,

I have to admit that a J.Crew ribboned beaded bracelet didn't wear well. I purchased it at B&M on sale, so it wasn't costly and I suppose that it wasn't too surprising considering the beads were connected to "ribbon;" but, thus far after a number of months of regular wear I am surprised at the durability of the detail and finish of the crystal pieces.

I know with the larger scale pieces it's not for everyone or every work environment; however, in my work, I am having fun wearing them. It will be interesting to see how long it can be carried off without looking dated. Interesting enough, most of the comment/questions I get are inquiring if they are vintage! So I am hoping the elegant crystal pieces will have some staying power, including the larger pieces.

Otherwise, I am not a fan of the recent fenton/fallon jewelry. Though I can see some of my friends having fun with them.

  12. Kumi,

That is great you are enjoying your pieces and wearing them. I hope they have "staying" power for you as well:)

I bought lots of vintage pieces when I lived overseas. It was much easier to find in thrift stores for very little $
