A big "thanks!" to Linda (the stylish blogger behind the amazing "Little Tin Soldier" blog) who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the recent issue of Real Simple magazine, but also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)The item featured appears to be a yet-to-released J.Crew Silk-and-Linen Dresses ($148.00). The real-person model states that "the dress has built-in molded cups that make my athletic body look curvier than it is... I feel sexy yet completely sophisticated".
The dress looks amazing on the real-person model in the image. However I still can't decide if I like the print or not. It seems a bit busy. I am thinking it would work quite nicely with a solid black cardigan (to kind-of tone the print down a bit).
What are your thoughts on the dress featured in the magazine? Do you like the print & style of the dress? :)
The second I saw this in my recent Real Simple I loved it. I'll have to see the pattern IRL to decide for sure, but given all of the super flowery and pink patterns they've had this spring, I think this is a nice change. The J.Crew where I work has roll-out on Monday, so I'm expecting we'll get this in, along with other coordinating pieces in the same pattern possibly. Maybe a cardi, blouse, or skirt? I can't wait to see!

ReplyDeleteI love this print! It will be on my must-buy list, I think. I like the colors and I agree, Alexis, it would look great with black. Off to ask my personal shopper for details.

I think I really like that print. But maybe the image scanned a little dark, so I'm not sure exactly what the colors are. I look forward to seeing that print IRL!

It looks similar to the pale lilac En Plein Air scarf on the website.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw another yet-to-be-released dress from J.crew in another magazine...maybe it was Lucky? The dress was a v-neck with satin-y stripes...very pretty, but $350-ish! I'll have to see if I can find that picture anywhere.

I agree with opheliasmom and think it's the same/similar print as the En plein air scarf in Pale Lilac that's already on the website.
ReplyDeleteAppGal: The dress you're referring to is on page 128 of Lucky magazine and they're calling it the "Rajstripe" dress. I think it's pretty, too. I like the color and stripes, but it's $395 and appears to be really short, so I'm sure it will be a *no-go* for me.
I don't know, if it gives her athletic body curves I'm not so sure how flattering it would be on my already curvy body. I find the strapless styles are more flattering for leaner types and I'm always disappointed in how they look on me. Other than that, I love the dress!

I finally found a strapless dress at ann taylor last summer that fit me like a dream, not easy at 34D. Boning is the key, to be sure. I tried on j.crew watercolor potpourri strapless dress & it didn't fit well at all.
ReplyDeleteI really like strapless dresses - with the right fit, I think they're beautiful. However, I think the right fit is tricky - and it's a disaster when women overcompensate for straps by going so tight there's a stuffed sausage effect ..
My personal shopper says it will be available in the dress and in a skirt. It's also going to be in a back pack (Crewcuts, probably). No cardi or blouse at the moment. They will be released in June according to her. The dress is $148,the skirt is $110. I have the watercolor Ames strapless so I'm planning on picking up the skirt in this print.

Oh I hope it's a pencil skirt!! There is a scarf in that print on line -- it's called the "En plein air scarf" and the color is "Pale Lilac". Looks beautiful!!

ReplyDeleteITA, Tina. The last thing I need is something that will make me look curvier or bustier. Built in bra cups rarely work for bigger busts since they're sized for average-small busts. Boobs spilling out of my clothes is not a look I favor.
