It's Official: J.Crew Summer Sale is Here!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Genny (in this post) & FFM (in this post), as well as Marietta, who shared the following news: the arrival of the SUMMER SALE section (click here to shop online).

There was a decent update today so far. Also, doesn't it feel like another "percent off sale" promotion will come around soon?

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are interested in? If so, please share. :)

  1. Yes, I noted and posted about the yellow Summer Sale change on Tueday night. Site already had a slight update as well then around 11:45 p.m. Nice to have more sale items to pick from:)

  2. I agree Alexis! I can feel the 20% off Memorial weekend sale coming... I snagged a couple of tees this morning and the Bazaar Shell is down to $59 so I had to purchase again and will return the one I purchased for $80!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Think there will be a code soon? Would hate to buy now only to get 20% off later.

Plus, J.Crew REALLY has to stop doing the "one time only" price adjustment policies. NO other store does that. Not Gap, not Banana Republic, nobody but J.Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  4. ITA with Bright Young Thing! Due to their lame one time price adjustment (even at that it's only 7 days not 14 days) policy I bet JC is losing money on shipping costs and such. I've had to re-buy(?) some stuff on sale that were marked down couple times. Hey, if I'm saving $20 or more I'm re-buying.

I hope there's some promo for this weekend. 30% with FS on anything would be AWESOME!

  5. The update this morning was a decent size. It's nice to see some new items in the sale section again, too.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I am willing to be money there will be no code this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  7. DesertFlower, I am willing to bet not, also... unfortunately. I think I might just go ahead and place an order.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes, I doubt there will be an extra % off this weekend.

I would love to be proved wrong though;)

Doesn't it seem like JCrew tends to skip over the minor holidays with any sort of promo?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'd LOVE to see another % off promo soon too, but doubtful as the current promo doesn't expires until 5.31.10, after Memorial Day.

They normally don't run concurrent promos, do they?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Banana Republic and Gap are have a one day only 30% off sale and free shipping on orders over $100. The code is ONEDAY30. -SC

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't recall j.crew coughing up much of a special on holidays (outside of Christmas) in the past, so I'm in the cynical camp regarding this weekend...

I went to the store earlier this week to make a return. Egads, the sale section was just packed with tees in various states of shoddiness. And out front in the store, batches and batches of new tees which I don't doubt will be back there in a month or so. Why not cut back a bit on the endless cycle of cheap-looking, ratty tees, j.crew?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Was excited to see the Neapolitan pencil skirt marked down this morning...I bought it a couple days ago at full price so I'm hoping for a PA (fingers crossed--although SHOULD have no problem!)

    ReplyDelete
  13. FFM - the Beaded bazaar shell is now $59.99, I know you mentioned purchasing it when it was on sale for $99.99. Looks like all sizes are in stock.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi La Belle Helene - OMG, my B&M is so embarrassing with the racks and racks of ratty tees. I can't bring myself to go in there! They should either a) mark them as $2.99 or b) ship them all off to TJMaxx.

I also don't think that there will be a Memorial Day promo - they tend not to do that. Or they'll do free shipping over $150+ with some code.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The Nashville store currently has a huge sale section (too big, actually). Just a very large number of flimsy tees. I didn't see anything I wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Marietta: Thanks! :) I did see that first thing this morning and like Twiga, I re-ordered, which is good since there are only 2 left in my size now. Since I purchased on sale I doubt if they would have done a price adjustment anyways. I really love the top and the new price is even better. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. FFM - I am so glad that the top worked out for you, and that you love it!

Twiga - I apologize, I didn't notice that you mentioned the lower price of the Bazaar Shell in your post. So glad that you were able to re-order, too! What a fantastic price, for an item that was originally $188!

    ReplyDelete
  18. FFM- Good to know I am not the only one doing the re-buy thing. It is not like J Crew loses on the deal as I usually go into a store to return my items and walk out with more than the difference! I also picked up the Crystal Corona necklace and am thrilled as I have been waiting for this one to go on sale forever. My PS wears it all the time and it is super cute!

  19. There was nothing from the sale section update that I was interested in, except the Dahlia cluster ring, which I ordered. Happy shopping to all! Byw, for those who live in Manhattan.... it's Fleet week! Love a man in uniform! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I see the jersey promenade dress in a 0 lasted no time at all :( Hopefully it reappears.

    ReplyDelete
  21. AppGal - how much was the neapolitan skirt this morning? i purchase it a few days ago at full price also and am hoping to call for a PA.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kelley: it was $59.99. Wow, it disappeared fast!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thank you AppGal! And yes, it did go fast. I'm so happy you metioned it!

  24. I am still hoping for a promo for memorial day. It is a big shopping weekend; all the retailers have something. Also, the current promo is one of those one-time use free ship codes not globally advertised, so I don't think that counts as already having a promo going on. I am going to try to hold out another day as long as the stock on things I want doesn't get too low.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm hoping for a code for something... I just purchased a swimsuit on the most recent swim promo, and need to order more (didn't realize I was going to like the one I purchased so much!).

Dumb question though... if there isn't even a free ship code this weekend, can I order a swimsuit through the red phone? I've never used the red phone before (not sure why), but didn't know if it only applied to regular clothes :) Like I said, I'm sure it's a dumb question....

    ReplyDelete
  26. FFM or any other posters,
How is the beaded bazaar shell? Is the beading heavy? I am kind of sensitive to that "stuff" but if it lays nicely and is comfortable the price is good. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tiffany, there is actually a FS code right now that Alexis has posted on the blog: RBY7D9 {free shipping on $150+; expires 5.31.10}.

However, you can order any type of full price merchandise from a red phone and get free ship.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks Cass! I wasn't sure if I was going to spend $150 or not, so I'm holding out to see if there is anything else I'm dying for.... but just in case it's good to know that I can use the phone for my swimsuit order! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cass, it looks like there is a free shipping code right now, god through the 31st. (Should be on the blog homepage... it doesn't appear in google reader, though.)

Ugh, BR always has the best promos! I only wish there were anything that I wanted from them.

I feel like BR hasn't had hardly anything I've liked now or several seasons... I've just bought men's clothes for my boyfriend--the men's clothes continue to be pretty nice, great selection of suiting separates.

But I used to love BR! But then again, the most exciting part of any new J. Crew catalog for me if the women's suiting section. So maybe that's the problem....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oops, sorry.. meant Tiffany. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have a cart full of sale and am also hoping for a % off sale with FS sometime this week. Somehow the sale things I put in my cart early last week are still in stock, so I'm just crossing my fingers that a code comes before they sell out.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am with Desert Flower & Bright Young Thing. I think there will be no code. Their bid at a memorial sale is to change the splash page to yellow. We'll see. You never know what will happen in the Crewniverse.

Genny - I have irl pics of the beaded bazaar shell in this post.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Am I crazy, or was there not a monster promo for memorial day weekend last year? I think it was extra30, wasn't it? Both in-store and online?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Genny: I wouldn't say the beading is heavy, but you can definitely feel that it's there. One thing that I didn't realize is that the accents on the *beads* are done in silver and not gold (which is what I was expecting) but the silver looks good, too. I actually ordered 2 sizes last week and the smaller one works best for me. I just adore the Jaipur print, and I'm overall really pleased with the shell. I think it is easily one of my all-time favorite purchases. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Genny, the Beaded Bazaar Shell does have very heavy beading. I feel like the beading is so heavy that it weighs down the whole thing so it kind of looks funny. It's gorgeous until you put it on. JMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Abigail, I agree. BR used to have great sheath dresses for work but there's way too much leisure clothes now, I think!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Genny, I tried on the beaded bazaar shell at a B&M yesterday and the beads were way too heavy for my taste. The fabric is great though, and I would have bought it if it didn't have the beads. (There are a few at the Easton store for $59.99, if anyone in the Columbus area is looking for them.)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think if the shell is the correct size for you then the beading doesn't hang funny. When I tried on the larger of the 2 sizes it did hang down in front, but on the smaller size it lays where it's supposed to be and looks very pretty.

  39. Anyone tried the Embossed Playa Dress? I'm tempted by it but not sure...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Caley, yes, I ordered the embossed playa dress in pale blue and white seersucker and returned it. I didn't realize it had an X back (which I hate because it makes wearing a bra difficult). Also, I felt it was too long but that's bc I'm short... I'm 5'1" and it hit an inch past my knees.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks BYT! I just noticed the back myself. Hate tough bra situations too. Was the fabric nice at least or cheap looking? Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  42. And are they ever going to put the Alecia leather platform peep toes on sale? I want them so bad, but not for FP. :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. OFF TOPIC: Anne Taylor Accused of airbrushing models...Just as I suspected a few months back; the narrow long waists, thin arms etc. At least JC hasn't gone there yet...they just use emaciated models instead.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/25/ann-taylor-appears-to-air_n_587796.html

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ibi: LOL.

I actually made a polyvore way back in December because of the shock I felt over Ann Taylor's airbrushing. The airbrushing they use is disgusting. I get smoothing out a pleat here or there, but completely taking off four inches from a model's hips, thighs, and waist? Ugh.

    http://www.polyvore.com/photoshop_its_perils/set?id=13939488

    ReplyDelete
  45. ^Everybody airbrushes, everybody pins their clothes to make them look better. I don't put much faith in pictures of anyone's clothes any more - hence the tremendous help of all the nice bloggers who show IRL pictures of themselves - unpinned & unphotoshopped :-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Caley, no complaints about the fabric of the embossed playa dress... it's not really nice or anything but it's just fine for summer. Very lightweight. Not sure how much it's priced now, but I bought it for $89.00 or thereabouts... I don't think it's worth that price. It's just not a very substantial dress.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That AT airbrushing is disgusting. Not sure if using emaciated models to begin with (JC) is much better though. At least AT sells clothing up to size 18, so although they want their models to appear super thin they are willing to let larger women wear their clothes. This is unlike JC, which has more and more items only going up to size 10.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bright Young Thing - how is J.Crew's price adjustment policy different from Gap's, with the exception of the number of days you have to get one? Gap's policy definitely says a "one-time only" price adjustment, and they also don't offer PAs on sale/clearance merchandise.

J.Crew isn't as consistent with applying their policy as they should be, but it's an unfair comparison to say that Gap/BR (and "NO other store") don't have "one time only" policies for PAs. If we're going to gripe about J.Crew's policies, we should gripe about them truthfully :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jenny, when Gap says a "one-time" price adjustment, they mean they will only adjust the price of any given item one time - so if it goes even further on sale the day after receiving a PA, you're out of luck. When J. Crew says "one time," it means they'll only do it once per customer, ever. Not the same thing :(

    ReplyDelete
  50. MDPA - I have never, EVER had a problem getting a price adjustment on full-priced merchandise, and I'm pretty sure J.Crew's "one time only" means the same thing as Gap's (one time per item). I've gotten numerous price adjustments, including 2 last week. The only time I've ever heard the "one time only" line was when I was requesting it on sale merchandise.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry Jenny, I meant to specify - I was talking about PAs on sale items. In my experience, Gap, BR, etc DO do PAs on sale items, no problem. Their official policy does not mention anything about sale items not being eligible for PAs, either. JC, on the other hand, has always been firm (at least with me) about the one lifetime "courtesy" PA on sale items. I asked for a PA on a sale sweater last year when they offered an extra-percent off sale the day after I ordered it, and since then, every time I've asked for a similar PA, I've been denied. I know that they do explicitly outline their policy, so I don't expect them to give me a PA on sale items, but I wish they had a more lenient policy like other stores.

  52. RE AIRBRUSHING:
    dinagideon, La Belle Helene, Cass,

Yes ladies that's why we use this wonderful blog and others to see how items fit on the majority of us real women. However JC does have an uncanny way of 'seducing' us and reeling us in with those waifs, the unexpected colour combination etc. Sub-consciously we think gee maybe, just maybe I'll look good (and feel good) in that too! Then the excitement when the UPS truck comes thundering by and the smell of 'new'...until we get it all on and look at the mirror and pause (fussy folds, creases, lumps) and say...what WAS I thinking? OR Yay I look absolutely fabulous (sometimes)!

  53. The Roses Vine blazer looks like it has some smocking across the back but the description doesn't mention it - can anyone comment?

    ReplyDelete
  54. For curiosity's sake, I checked through JCA's wonderfully categorized posts.

There was indeed a code last year for Memorial Day weekend (May 20st to 25th).

No promises on my part. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Valerie-

I received the rose vines blazer yesterday. It does have some smocking across the back, which I think gives it a little more of a feminine fit. It definitely is not "fitted," though, I would say it is relatively loose, which is nice for summer, but not baggy.

Has anyone tried the Sconset shirt? If so, how is the sizing?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi Kris - I tried the Sconset on in the B&M today. It is "boyfriend" style so my usual S was plenty big, if I were to purchase I would've probably sized down to an XS 'cause I don't like to swim in my shirts. Two caveats: a) the pink in the plaid is MUCH more neon IRL and b) the cotton is not soft at all - it's actually kind of itchy, like a flannel that hasn't been broken in. But hey, it's not final sale! :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lots of good items in the update this morning, I made a quick purchase before heading off to work. I considered the Bazaar shell but I have the Jaipur blouse, Tunique dress and the retail-only linen skirt in the same pattern already so I had to back away from the computer on that one. When I find a pattern I love I can sometimes go a little crazy. I'm sure some of my fellow JCAs can relate. :^P

I was lucky enough to get the linen military blazer #25787 in dark pewter from the new arrivals recently and it is really nice. The larger sizes are already totally sold out online and the white is gone in all sizes so if you like this style you may want to get the Find It crew to do a store search or order it now as it will likely never make it to sale. IMO this is a great deal on a stylish linen jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Not on sale, but I HIGHLY recommend the Cappy Eyelet Cami -- it fits very well and is so versatile for summer. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. OT, not using this one-time BR code, which is good until midnight tonight:

    DLX84DKYPB3Y

40% off one full-priced item, excluding women's shoes.

    Hope someone can take advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  60. here's another Banana Repub code for 40% that ends tonight...

    BZL2J38Y3HVQ

    hope someone can use..

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yep, I thought I recalled dropping a bundle last Memorial Day weekend! :-) I'm going to hold off for now and see if it happens again. ...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Cass, I have the embossed playa dress in black and white. I had high hopes for the dress as it could have been a really cute summer dress. However something about the cutting is just odd... They've pleated the neckline, but didn't carry the pleating through down the dress, so the end result is that you get a lot of fabric around the waist and it all bunches out... Not the most flattering look. I managed to salvage it somewhat with a thick belt and belted up all the excess fabric, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this may be one item that may go further down on sale. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'd guess no online promo over the weekend; it's a big shopping weekend anyway, so the B&Ms get much heavier foot traffic than usual. There's not much incentive for them to give an additional % off to shop online til after the weekend is over and the traffic in the stores dips back down.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Silver lining - thanks, that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Dear J. Crew Powers That Be,

There's a bunch of stuff in my shopping bag that I would jump on if you'd give us a FS or % off code. Just respecting the recession and all.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thanks for the help on the beaded bazaar shell. I may try it if an extra % off code comes along but I am pretty sensitive to things like the beading being heavy or "feeling it". So I appreciate all the thoughts/helpfulness of everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I just wanted to provide mini review of some of my recent sale purchases. Sorry for a long post but I hope it helps someone.

    First, the bad one:
Gabby Satchel in pale lilac - I HATE IT!!! I got it on sale with the 20% for $180 and it is going back. Color is very washed out, ugly purple, not pretty lilac I was hoping for.
It is bigger than I thought, even looking at the picture with a model and checking the measurement against my other purses.
The bow is just floppy piece of leather hanging there, not cute at all. I did not care for studding irl, just blah imo.
Handles stick out and will not lay flat when wearing it cross body and I did not know what to do with them.
It looks best when you just carry it using the handles but they are too short to stick on your shoulder.
The openings are with zippers on the sides did not seem comfortable if I was fishing out for my phone or something.
This was a definite SEND BACK only after I opened the dust bag. I was disappointed, but since this was a big thicket item, returning it lets me now keep the other items
and stick to my budget (more or less, if you know what I mean, haha).

    ReplyDelete
  68. Continuing the reviews, now the just OK purchase:
Cyprus vachetta gladiator sandals item 20311 now on sale for $69.99. I really like the look of them. They are gladiators and will add some edge to your outfits but they are not too much like some of the styles on the market. Fit large, they are not kidding, when they say 'half sizes size down'. They look cute but they are not comfortable or just as comfortable as JC flat shoes can be. Straps are long enough and fit well on my average 8.5 feet. I bought them in 8 and they are still slightly too big but not enough to order 7 imo. I hesitated, but I am keeping them for the looks. I paid $56 for them.

    ReplyDelete
  69. One more review, finally the good ones:
Rose vines blazer - love it, fits TTS, I got it in my regular size 6 and it is a good fit. It has a nice weight for the summer,
its no much more than a shirt but feels more polished and easy for on and off. I love it for air-conditioned office/mall/supermarket. I am often freezing in the summer. It feels breezy and cool with cotton lining and I prefer it to sweaters. It works with everything, pants, shorts skirts and dresses. Print is subtle, so it kind of blends with a lot of colors.

Polished slub pencil skirt - love it!!! I bought it in natural, which is a creamy off-white. Fabric is thicker cotton with nubby texture (looks almost like thick linen) and it goes with everything in my summer wardrobe. It is fully lined in cotton, so it's best with bare legs and it feels very comfortable. Fits TTS. At 22" is a little shorter than this spring pencil skirts (like sunshine peony) but a little longer than newer 21" summer pencil skirts. For me (I am 5'7") this is perfect length, about 1 inch above my knee cap with the skirt sitting at about 1" below waist.
I love the thicker nubby texture and the color. It is not stark white, so it looks creamy/ivory with pastels but seems white with black or navy.
This skirt wrinkles quite a bit when you sit but somehow magically smooths out as you start walking.
It's not on sale, but I bought mine with 20% off last week.

  70. Oh, wow... that AT airbrushing article is wild. I have to say, though, that I always thought that Victoria's Secret is the industry leader in comically awful airbrushing:

    http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/search?q=victoria%27s+secret

So I went looking for some examples to demonstrate this point and found the wonderfully hilarious blog Photoshop Disasters. Apparently VS provides a veritable wealth of material, as suggested by the large number of posts that a search turned up.
