J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCA, eggytarty, socialscientist, & AppGal (in this post), as well as Marietta & Irina, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} Of course, Crewcuts got updated too (click here). Although the J.Crew Collection (click here) displays the same new arrivals for Fall from last time.

There is a new feature discussing J.Crew's involvement with the up-coming Romantics film (click here). There is even a new promotion to win a weekend trip for two to NYC and a $2,000 gift card. To enter click HERE. For official rules, click here. This ends 9/23/10.

The latest catalog (click here to view) is available to view. Sidenote: the September catalog seems to reappear/disappear from the catalog page. Thankfully AppGal provided us with a direct link to it here. The September catalog for Men is also available. :) I am not sure if I like the color scheme for the catalogs yet. As for the new arrivals...

My precious... I love a good, structured wool jacket for the Fall. So of course I am drawn to the Wool Flannel Marion Jacket (item 29019; $188.00) in Navy. The tailored fit and standing collar makes this piece a classic staple. Also the Buena Notte Bag (Item 29477; $188.00) looks absolutely darling! I know it comes across a bit ol' lady-ish, but the handle (with its bows and additions) freshen it up. That is what makes it so great! It definitely is a piece that I see one using for generations.

Loves it! Well, maybe... One of the best parts of Fall fashion is seeing the outerwear collection. The "It" coat this season looks to be the Wool-Cashmere Icon Trench (Item 28231; $325.00) in Camel. For some reason, the coat looks amazing on the model and really frumpy on the mannequin. I hope it doesn't disappoint in real-life.

Hideous... What is up with the Islington Plaid Poncho (Item 29323; $1,195.00)? From the shape to the fabric to the pattern– it's all terrible. I have my fair share of ponchos (as someone whose family is from and still lives in Central & South America). I know ponchos can be difficult to wear, but the key to finding a beautiful one is getting the right fabric and shape. J.Crew's version does not posses either. And that price tag... seriously!?! On a bright note, this means ponchos might be coming back in style and I can start wearing mine again. :)

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. Sadly, the item I am most excited about is a hat! I also really like the Marled hoodie pullover sweater. Looks really cute. Otherwise, to me it's just the same frustrating group of too-short skirts and dresses and overdone ruffles...

  2. There are some really cute things (and of course, some hideous things/styling). I always love to read what the JCA's think! First thoughts:

    1. Mona looks lovely in the catalog - I like to see some color for a change!
    2. Love the Arrow sweater jacket, Cecelia cami in seaweed, Milo peacoat, and Donegal tweed pencil skirt.
    3. OMG, check out the zip-side foil sweatshirt (29459). Nips ahoy!
    4. I think those cracked leather boots are just hideous - very Les Miz.
    5. Will probably have to order stuff to try on, especially if it's going to go to final sale on first markdown.

  3. I didn't see much that interested me. I think the plaid pencil skirt may be nice for fall, and perhaps the swish tank since it looks like it would layer well under cardis and jackets. Not much else caught my eye, and those pieces I will only buy with a code or on sale. I'm a little disappointed but only because I was anticipating more and better for fall.

It's not just J. Crew though. I've also dropped several Anthro items off my wish list after finding they look significantly different than pictured on the website and fits were poor.

Just checked the Talbot's new arrivals online. The dresses and coats start at size 4 (although there was some buzz their sizing would be changed for fall) so I'm sized out. The shoes I lusted after in the fall lookbook look nothing like that online. Nothing for me there either.

Thank goodness I have a great collection of fall items from past years! No one is doing much for me this fall.

  4. I liked several items. I sent the double serge skirts back because they were too long, thick and poorly made, so I am happy to see the dusty rose and grey flannel skirt. I also love the Colletta coat in plum and the bright blue and the Cecelia cami in ivory.

Desert Flower, I am really ticked at Talbots, also. I really wanted the blue herringbone coat and the golf green one, but it they are not going to offer them in 2, I am still sized out. Talbots already got an email from me after the green one was released starting at a 4.

  5. kitsmommy, I tried on the Cecelia cami in store and really liked it. The front buttons mean no side zip (weeee!) and the neckline had just enough interested to wear under a cardi or jacket.

I agree with Desert Flower, too - quality seems to be crappy all over. I'm going to be picking and choosing Fall items carefully, that's for sure.

  6. I have not recived a catalog since JUNE. It's killing me, today I requested a catalog to maek sure I got back on their mailing list.

  7. First thought: Is that an Ewok on the cover?

    ReplyDelete
  8. SO happy to see the Donegal pencil skirt, I will be ordering the gray PRONTO and sending back the Double Serge that I got in charcoal. The tweed is much more interesting and exactly what I hoped JC would do for fall!

Also, the outerwear is all looking very cute, and great colours. Much to covet for me...

  9. wow. what a select clientele they are targeting with those sequined harem pants.

i found a few things i like, mostly sweaters.

  10. Silver Lining,

Thanks for the feedback on the Cecelia.

    Clicquot,

Did you see the medium grey tweed skirt Ann Taylor has? It is style #245397. I am going to try the donegal also, but this Ann Taylor one is amazing. It isn't really a tweed as much as a textured light weight wool, but the fit is amazing and it is very well made. I was on the fence about the double serges until I received this one.

  11. Page 70 made me choke on my coffee.

  12. well, on a positive note, I am ordering the Sequin Harem Pants, the Marabou Jacket, the Leopard Fedora, the Canvas High Tops, and rather than fuss about a belt, I am effortlessly wrapping a few pairs of patterned tights about my waist. And the poncho, because feathers can be chilly. Please note that all of these will go back first thing in the morning November 1.

  13. Three words: peony crystal necklace.

    Heeeeeeeee!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Of course I like to have fun and try the latest styles first. At work I am always first it seem with that--however, I don't let style dictate what I personally want to wear. I have continued to wear my ponchos and capes over the years and never stopped!!!!

As far as the new arrivals go will have a look now:)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I want that camel wool/cashmere Icon coat!!! Praying for a 20% off code on fall stuff some time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ooh, they got Sasquatch to model on page 105. Hope he got paid!

Hmm, why can't I spot this donegal skirt - is it online?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Forgot to mention that I saw the sequin pencil skirt in the store and they all looked really shabby and shopworn - on what was probably their first day on the floor. I could see sequins pulled off already, strings hanging, etc... Not that I was planning on buying that skirt anyway. Just an fyi to those thinking about it....

    ReplyDelete
  18. wellfedfred, darling, please show up at my door on Halloween: I am handing out chunky necklaces crafted from acrylic pearls and brass.

    ReplyDelete
  19. wellfedfred, I like your approach. Something like the Hemingway spoof in Key West every year, why not a parody of JC styling? My entry: the sequin harem pants with the cosabella cutie in shocking pink worn as outerwear (the latest in on-trend looks), the borrowed-from-the boys wellies in brown and orange (we're obsessed with contrast) and the flannel tuxedo tunic (we love plaid for fall!) Now if I could just get in a mention of an Italian mill.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Look for my outfit on Polyvore on October 31. I will be the girl effortlessly draped across the pumpkin. With that peony crystal necklace. Be afraid, be very afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I LOVE the look of the peacoats!! I like the Marled Pullover Hoodie & the Arrow Sweater too (except maybe the collar isn't going to work for me but love the milano knit). Some of the sweaters look interesting but it would depend on the colors available.

Why can't they adjust the darn catalog window so it stays centered on my screen!! So annoying to have to scroll back up to center the catalog every time I flip the page.

Seems they haven't updated the search engine to enable key word searches on new items yet.

Thanks for the laugh Silver Lining! I couldn't imagine what I was going to see - a little slow this morning! There's another model who is sans brasiere too so maybe this is part of their younger, hipper, edgier, rocker-chic styling. What's the rule? If you can't hold a pencil underneath you don't need one?

    FS page updated.

  22. Thanks for the catalog link.
Interesting to see how JCrew now looks nothing but trendy IMO.

I was just at Loft (for the third time ever--but bought a bunch of nice belts for $4.88 and a scarf) and talked to the manager--really nice guy-- about JCrew. He immediately said, "They are so trendy now and not classic." I stood there with my mouth open. He said he used to shop there a lot but their fit has change and he doesn't as much anymore....too funny!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wellfedfred, Are those hightops "borrowed from the boy"? I think you missed a crew buzzword, dear. Thanks, for the post. Note to self, swallow your tea before reading any post from WFF.

By the way, Talbots has a darling merino knock off of the cashmere argyle vest from a few years ago. I'd order it, if the idiots had chosen to make in in xs. I'm off to email Talbots again...

    ReplyDelete
  24. If anyone is interested, there were a couple of new graphic tees in store that didn't show up in the rollout online.

The first one is called the all spice tee. It's a spice/clay color and has writing on it that looks like it's from the outside of a spice crate. It has a few gold embellishments on it and fits a bit on the snug side. It's a crew neck. $34.50

The second is called the paris tee. It is a v neck white tee with a rose, the eiffle tower, a bridge, birds and a bit of writing on it. It's tts. It has a little stitching on the rose and the bridge and a few small crystals on the tower. $36.50

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think it looks "nothing but trendy." I still find plenty of classic pencil skirts, shirts, sweaters and coats to depleat my bank account. I should get at least a couple of seasons from the things in my shopping cart.

Yes, they need to back off on the ruffles, foil and marabou, but there is still plenty to love...

    ReplyDelete
  26. AppGal - too funny - the hat and marled hoodie are my only two interests as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am definitely coveting a lot of items with this rollout (love autumn!) but some of the stuff is more absurd than ever! LOL to wellfedfred.

I immediately fell in love with the Dream open shawl-collar cardigan. It's beautiful! I rarely buy from JC without seeing the item first but I decided to order it in the espresso color. I felt like I just 'had to have it.' I also picked up two Twist-knot tees which are very cute and a pair of the cord trouser pants.

I like the color offerings right now because I love neutral, soft colors. I was hoping for some more interesting pencil skirts and coats but hopefully they're just saving it for the next roll out? Also, the boots are very disappointing this fall.

Still loving my espresso Brompton purse. Overall, I'd give them a B+ on this rollout! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I made total grabby hands at the wool flannel marion jacket. Beautiful! Exactly what I wanted for fall - a classic item in an interesting shape. And I know a lot of other JCAs are ruffled out, but the traversa cardigan is lovely. As for the sequined harem pants - there has to be someone, right? Like, designer sequin harem pants are probably twice, three times that - so some pour hipster who's got a pinch on her trust is served by them, yes?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Liking -

    Cecelia cami
    Ciel étoilé cardigan
Stretch vintage trouser cord in shadow
Starry Donegal tweed pencil skirt in moss
Sequin pencil skirt - love, picked this up yesterday, TTS... although I abhor how it's styled on the product page
Bayberry washed wool scarf in vintage wisteria

    ReplyDelete
  30. The only exciting thing for me is the Arrow sweater which I saw at the store yesterday. 100% merino wool which is a bit rare nowadays. It is thick and well made. The only colors the store carried were the heather elm and charcoal. I love a thick sweater vs. the the thin flimsy ones J. Crew has been making for some time now.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I see several things I like including the Marled Pullover Hoodie, Plaid Boyfriend Cardigan, Merino Silvana Cardigan in Bronzed Twig, Wool Flannel Marion Jacket, and Donegal Tweed Pencil Skirt. The one item that will more than likely be a definite purchase for me is the Marled Shawl-Collar cardigan in the Saddle color. The cardi looks very similar to the one from last year that I have in black and wore on a regular basis once the weather cooled down here. I really hope this year's version doesn't disappoint IRL. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. A few other thoughts...

Where is the cambridge cable V-neck sweater this year? They have the crewneck and the t-neck versions out...the v-neck is the most flattering, imo. Hope it shows up.

How scandalous is the Cotton-wool ruffle dress? It is so cute, but my goodness, if a student (or a teacher!) showed up in it to school they would be sent home with a serious dress code violation!

Happy to see more color, but still wishing for the vibrant purples, golds, and deep blues that I long for in the fall...

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was hoping the plaid jacket that Ema posted about was going to be online, but it looks as if it must be in-store only right now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. FFM: do you mind the zippers on the pockets on the Marled Shawl-Collar cardi? I liked the Saddle color alot too but decided to pass because of the zippers.

I just ordered the Tie Front Cardi in Hthr Sandalwood and the Seth plaid boy shirt in blueberry fog. This isn't displayed on the site today. I wonder why they do that-take items down they just put with the last roll-out?

  36. Kitsmommy and Desert flower, I just checked out Talbots and it looks like many of the new jackets start at size 2 and are also offered in 0P. Not sure if that would work for you but may be worth a try. Also, it looks like they have a leather pencil skirt like someone here was saying they wish JC would do.

I feel the same sizing frustration but vis a vis JC. Yet again, the cute suiting dresses stop at size 12.
I like the Colletta coat but think the style is too similar to the sybil coat i have from '08 to justify buying at FP. Love the blue and rainforest green colors. Also interested in trying on the sweet violet and ciel etoile cardigans.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ooh, one more thought...why isn't the heather caramel color showing up in the Arrow sweater jacket? That color looks gorgeous and probably what I would want if I were to order. Is it showing up in anyone else's browsers?

    ReplyDelete
  38. IRL: I'm not sure about the zippers until I see the cardigan in person, but yes...they could be a potential deal breaker for me. I would rather they were *normal* pockets, but am hoping they won't be that noticeable.

    ReplyDelete
  39. About the driving mocs, (montebello, porto, positano, etc)
Do they all fit about the same?
I'm thinking about ordering a pair but I'm normally a size 8, and I heard they stretch out quite a bit to the point of falling off...
would anyone recommend sizing down to a 7?
    Thanks so much!:)

    ReplyDelete
  40. AppGal, It doesn't show up for me either but when I search on 'caramel' it comes up in the results. If you click on it, the item's main page is displayed and it's still not visible there.

    ReplyDelete
  41. i actually like the poncho, but it is way too long. if it were cropped and uhhm, $1100+ cheaper, i'd be all over that. :P

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks Cass, but Talbots offering jackets in 2s is nothing new. They have always (at least since I have been working in a professional job), started coats and dresses specifically off at 4 and sweaters at smalls (fits size 6 to 8). That leaves those of use that are not petite in height sized out or many of their offerings.

It is a shame that some retailers ignore those of us at the edges of the bell curve.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Did anyone notice that the Infinity cardigan is longer than the skirt they are showing it with.

I love the Dida flats, the Buena Notte purse, and the trouser cords.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hey AppGal, do a search on the J Crew page for arrow sweater - the image that comes up is the caramel one

    I loved:
    -textured jersey tees
    -arrow sweater
    -colletta coat
    -donegal skirt
    -lemlem obi belt (but $)

Can't wait to see more new stuff in stores!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good god. The sequin harem pants. Nothing says glamour like a pair of twinkly pants that look like they contain a soggy pair of Depends.

In general, the colors are just so washed out. It is a snore. I do, however, like the heather traversa cardigan. (But why only in charcoal?) And the stadium-cloth peacoat in Nordic blue.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Does anyone own the Knotted Starfish Dress? I am wondering if it runs TTS.

As for the Fall offerings, I like many of the items but the styling does seem a bit much. To me it reads like they are trying to do UO for 35-45.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sigh, nothing grabbed me. More ruffles, minis, and embellishments.

(The store-only embellished tees Nichi describes sound interesting though . . . as if I need another embellished tee, LOL.)

After my Banquette disappointment I was still hoping for a really great suiting dress, one that would justify full price. That Silvie--paper-bag look doesn't work for me in business clothes. Also I am not a fan of flannel due to the lint factor.

I did like the catalog photos though--more color and fewer fly-catching expressions.

p.s. Soo disappointed to hear that Talbots isn't offering smaller sizes. I'd put my fall hopes on them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Omg check out the male model on page 105 of the ctalog. He looks like he just woke up from a 10 yr hibernation. I guess they are going for the "I don't brush my hair" look for the men too.

And what does JC have against socks for men!!! They put women in ankle socks and high heel sandals, and refuse to allow their men to wear socks with normal shoes! Maybe they should have odor eaters offered on the website as part of their next collaboration.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lots of great classics, and some interesting trendy pieces too, styled together for a modern-day look. I'm loving much of this catalog! :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Has anyone ever purchased a Puffer Jacket or Coat? How do they fit/are they true to size? I'm always leery about wearing them in fear of a "marshmallow" look but I might buckle and get one this year. Thanks for any help....

  51. Likes
    Dream open shawl collar cardigan
    Sweet violet cardigan
    Arrow sweater jacket

    Petrole Margeaux dress
    Velvet schoolboy blazer
    Bronson suede booties
    Rhodie (both larger bags)
    and a few others...

  52. Can anyone comment on merino versus dream turtleneck? I used to buy a black cashmere turtleneck each year but no matter the brand or price they only make it one season. Merino seems more durable but how is the JC merino? dream? thanks

    ReplyDelete
  53. kitsmommy,

I don't wear pencil skirts. I prefer the skirts that JCrew used to offer that were knee length and full. Pencil skirts are restricting and just not my style.

I guess our opinion of what is trendy and not is very different but I know several people that I have talked with and interacted with in other stores feel the same way I do.

There is not one item in my cart from this new roll out. I have recently moved to a warmer climate as well and have always liked sweaters and esp. coats but have not true NEED to buy anymore!

Was hoping to see some pretty skirts but none for me. Plus, I cannot stand zippers on pants or tops unless it is an outdoors type jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You ladies are too funny! Thanks for a great laugh this morning.
The styling on pretty much every clothing is over the top.
Do you ladies remember when models would just simply show each clothing in various views? Since I do most JC shopping online it's hard for me to see in detail based on these layers and layers of clothing. Oh, those ankle socks with heels are so annoying.

I so wish Fall is here, but alas it doesn't get cool enough until mid-October. Here are some of my interests:
    - Marled shawl collar cardigan in marled saddle (don't like the zip pockets though)
    - Starry Donegal tweed pencil skirt
    - Sasha peacoat (can't decide on the color)
    - Colletta coat (but looks a lot like my Carlin from last yr)
    - Rhodie satchel, Rhapsody hobo

Oh, it was cute to see the cast of The Romantics, especially the guys. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gem Twin, I'd recommend merino over dream or JC cashmere. I and many other JCAs have reported pilling with the dream yarn. And I think the JC cashmere woes are pretty well known here.

I switched to buying only merino from JC because of the cashmere problems. My JC merino sweaters show minimal wear and pilling. LOL, I have a Nordstrom merino black T-neck from college years (1987!) that is still entirely wearable, even though it came with giant Velcro-in shoulder pads.

I think the only issue would be the itch factor--merino doesn't bother me in that way, but it does irritate some.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Note to self: swallow coffee before reading LBH and WFF posts. You guys owe me a new keyboard ;)

There are some loves, some likes, and a few WTF's...

Loves: The saturated colours in the SETS pp. 1 through 31, as well as some colour on the model's face.

Likes: Lumiere Ruffle Cardi (but mohair! urgh); Heather Traversa Cardi (more mohair, urgh); Cashmere in all the colours; Arrow sweater jac; Dream Open Shawl Collar Cardi (but it's Dream yarn!); Tweed Harriet Blazer (so much better than the Harris Tweed one IMHO); Sasha peacoat plus a few of the dress coats.

WTF's: aside from the crazy styling on some (not all) of the pages, is the model on page 104 really happy to see me or is he REALLY HAPPY to see? Shouldn't this have been photoshopped out??

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Laura: I bought a Puffer vest a few years ago from a Crewlet and LOVE it. I layer it over my jean jac/fatigue jac/thick sweaters and don't think it puffs me out at all. But you gotta try the jacket on; it's all in the sleeves. I tried a quilted jac (thinking it's less bulky than puffer) at Eddie B and it made me look like a bowling ball.

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Laura: I own a puffer jacket from last year and it fits tts for me. I got it on sale last year and I was impressed with the quality. I can layer a thin l/s tee but wouldn't consider wearing a sweater underneath it. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks Hexicon--confirmed my suspicions. Merino it is.

    ReplyDelete
  60. OK, I don't know if I am way younger than the rest of you or what, but I am OBSESSED with the sequin harem pants. Sure, I'm not going to be wearing them everyday, obviously, and I am definitely horrified with the $650 pricetag, but I think they are gorgeous! I am totally saving up/maxing out my credit card to get them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Zip leather gloves in bronzed clay!!! *DROOL*

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hexicon,

I agree with you. JCrew merino is all I will buy anymore; that and 100% cotton sweaters:) Happy shopping to all that found things they really like this roll out.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I found many things I like (unfortunately)!

Wool Flannel Marion Jacket (want both colors but may have to choose one unless they do a 20% promo)

    Ciel etoile cardigan

Rhodie (both larger sizes) but looking at the photos closely, this could be too worn. Has anyone seen the Rhodie in the stores? I wish there was no wearing but if it were minimal to none I would love this bag.

Plaid boyfriend cardigan, are the plaid panels merino or sewn in fabric?

Since plaid shirts are big this year I want a couple but I wish there were a promo, it's hard to pay $70 or $80 for a plaid shirt. Will need to see them first anyway. I thought the Herringbone one was not near as good looking in the stores as it was in the catalog last month.

I wish the sweater jackets weren't so thick - 7 gauge is very thick.

I did get the heather cobblestone cashmere cardigan and the color is great but I agree, while workable, the sleeves are slightly tight.

Isn't today they do the launch party in the stores? Do you have to go at the exact time? And is there anything you need to get a 10% discount? It might be worth it since there are so many items I like but want to see first!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Kitsmommy,

I tried on the Cecelia Cami yesterday and it fit really well. The ruffles are done impeccably. The only two things I would complain about are the length (a tiny bit too short for me), and the buttons are this weird plastic stuff. Overall though it's a great blouse.

    FFM and IRL,

The marled shawl-collar cardigan is seriously amazing. I think the side-zippers actually enhance the sweater. The knit is pretty substantial and perfect for fall and winter.

I posted pictures of the Cecelia and the Marled shawl cardi, along with other new fall items in this post

  65. sorry, me again (time on my hands today) who wrote the copy? Elaine Bennis on loan from J. Peterman? "...stop borrowing his...you don't have to give this back...we set out to create the world's finest...secret washed for over 300 minutes...we're wearing ours layered/belted/with motorcycle boots...we want one in every colour...every girl should have one..." is it just me or has everyone else stopped reading this drivel? Oh, but we HAVE to read this so we can figure out how things fit cos we sure can't tell from the photos!! OK, rant over.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Closet Crisis, I hear ya! I usually just skip all the copy and look for the words "Side zip", "whisper-thin", "raw-edged", or "14-gauge". ;)

  67. I think the hackneyed expressions and poor proofing are just more examples of general corporate sloppiness we've noticed lately. My current favorite OOPS is the guy on page 104. Talk about wanting a catalog to show how things fit... Now he could wear the sequin pants. Woo hoo.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Can't help it, I have 2389472094732087 ruffled cardigans but I'm still gravitating towards that Traversa cardigan, and HARD.

    *sighs*

    ReplyDelete
  69. wellfedfred, I've said it before - at least JC's stopped saying "We're obsessed with quality!".

The sloppiness is everywhere - I was in a BR fitting room the other day and overheard a girl talking to her mom about a sweater she was trying on, and her mom kept trying to talk her out of it, saying "See this button? It's sewn on with a different color thread than the rest of the buttons!" Nice QC.

  70. I'm with you, DesertFlower. Nothing really excites me. But as is usually the case, I'm GLAD when I don't see anything I like! Really just looking forward to wearing some of my recent Fall/Winter acquisitions from years past.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm considering getting the Camden Brogues in Nutmeg and the Brompton Hobo and wearing them together with grey for Fall. Are there any JCA who have or have seen both? Would you get the Brompton Hobo in Henna or Espresso if you were wearing them with the Nutmeg Brogues?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I visited my B&M store at lunch and tried the Fallyn skirt and Cecelia cami.

The Fallyn skirt fit terribly. This is much straighter through the hip than my superfine cotton or double serge skirts. Definite pass...

The Cecelia cami is cute, but the buttons look cheap to me and the shirt definitely doesn't look worth full retail to me. Pass unless super discounted.

I don't need more perfect shirts, but they had a black floral print and a purple dotted one that are adorable. Also the purple velvet blazer is pretty.

I ordered a second Jenna cardi in black and the Bettina cami in the rose color and they showed up last night. Definitely keepers.

  73. Kitsmommy,
That's exactly how I felt about the cecelia buttons. I wish they had just done the normal mother of pearl ones :-/

  74. Oh look! The stole is back!... in both colours!

    ReplyDelete
  75. One thing I like: the Colletta coat in the dark plum: good color.
I actually read all the comments here first before I even looked at the new arrivals: hilarious!
Rose, I saw the Lamby stole was back as well!

  76. I ordered the arrow sweater-jacket in heather caramel. I hope I love it. The price seems reasonble.

Love the wool cashmere trench but wish I could try it on before deciding. The cotton version one is $30 less and it doesn't say that it is web/catalog only. Anyone tried the cotton trench? BR has a trench that has good reviews for cheaper but in a different material.

  77. I saw many of the new arrivals in store yesterday and I have to say that they looke more appealing than on the website. It looks like I am the only one loving the atomic mini, even if I still have to understand why it's so expensive (the description on the website didn't help, unless they mean that they usesd a pigment taken from a Vermeer painting, lol).

Re the copies, who wrote the copy for the Donegal tweed Atlee skirt?
"A full and flirty silhouette in a traditional Donegal tweed with slant pockets and shirring—it's our Dickens-era spin on boy-meets-girl chic". Who wants to look like a character out of the pages of Hard Times? When I think of Dickens, chic is not the first thing that comes to my mind...

Can it be that the fedora hat is already soldout in the beige color???? Is not showing up...

Re. Talbots, I stopped by today and tried a few things on including a beautiful wool pencil skirt in camel (I tried the 2 and if it was very long for sure it wasn't big in the waist or hips). I didn't feel that I was sized out at all (I am a 0 in JCrew). The cashmere sweaters were offered in XS too and if the regular sizes start at 2 in skirts and dresses they are also offered in 0P and 2P. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I was looking at the Girls' Parisienne moto vest item 29403 and laughed at the description which read, "We wish this irresistible little vest came in our size."

Um, I think they can make that happen, don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yes, E, the Vermeer caption wins the JPeterman Poontless Allusion Prize of the day! Neighbor's cat-sitter, the Unemployed Art History Major, is getting her resume together. Be ready for the Botticelli Rain Boots and coming soon to a B+M near you, the fringe-y, feathery and studded Nevelson Cami.

  80. babymama, I own the icon trench and love it. I'm typically a 2 in JC jackets/shirts and got a 4 in the trench for layering and it is perfect. I was actually lucky enough to try on the short trench (in warm taupe) at my B&M last week - it was a return, and it was exactly like the icon, but shorter. Very cute, and the warm taupe was a little 'warmer' than on my computer screen. I'd love to take the plunge on it on sale.

I have tried the BR one as well, but the fit wasn't as great on me. IIRC, it also had epaulets, which I'm not a big fan of. The JC trenches did not have epaulets.

  81. I love the look of the Flannery platform pumps...wonder if I could get a shoemaker to remove the silly (IMO) ankle strap?

    ReplyDelete
  82. So I finally used the chat feature to get the bust measurements of the Tomboy Plaid Shirt and the Chambray Selvedge Shirt. Glad I did. I don't think there's a Chambray small enough since the Small is actually 43.5 inches! Now you know how many clips are on the back of those shirts in the catalog.

And the Tomboy size 6 is still 39 inches which I always thought was a size 10 or so. I am typically an 8 or perhaps a 10 so in this, I would be a 4? If you read the description it says they have put seams at the bust. How does that help if the entire shirt is two to three sizes bigger? Anyway, just thought I would pass on if you were thinking of ordering the Tomboy shirts.

  83. Went to my B&M to check the new arrivals.
Arrow sweater jacket - very nice fit, good quality and both olive and pewter are pretty. TTS to SD. I lik e that it is all merino. The collar is pretty big so it adds bulk in the shoulder area. It is heavy and thick, I don't think you can wear it under a coat so imo only works as an actual jacket.
Marled shawl-collar cardigan - I liked it in both colors. TTS. The zippers did not bother me. Good lenght on me (5'7") and nice for layering with not too much bulk. However, I think you can easily get something similar for half the price.
Donegal tweed Atlee skirt - nothing special. It is short but there is additional 1.5 inch in the hem. I tried sizing up 2 sizes and that gives it acceptable length, especially if would let go the hem. But since it is tweed it does not drape nicely and adds extra bulk in hips. I have narrow hips and many times don't mind it but it was too much. Plus, the tweed is very ordinary and I think easily sourced from other retailer for less.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Elizabeth,

That sizing does sound way off. Thanks for the heads up. Will stay away from those shirts. Was not really a fan anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ema,

I was at Talbots last night. Walked out with a bunch of sale items as well as new fall stuff. Had not bought anything at Talbots except a few scarves and a sweater in the past year. Great customer service. They had just put out all their new fall items that morning.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thanks silver_lining. Hoping to be able to try on the icon trench or shorter length in store. What I like about the BR version is that it comes in petite. Normally, sleeves on jackets are too long for me.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I stopped into my local Talbots (right by my J Crew) at lunch. They had a darling argyle sweater that isn't on the site, and it did come in xs and fit fairly well. It is black, camel and dark brown.

I was looking forward to the blue herringbone coat that was in the lookbook, but it will be starting at a 4 (I asked). I am a 2 or 4 in JC coats and jackets and Talbots' 4s are way too big, fitting me more like a J Crew 6. They also have a nice trench, but it starts at 4. I need a size 2, but apparently that is too much to ask for.

I am a 4 or 6 in J Crew pencils due to my generously sized booty and can usually wear 4 or 6P in skirts at Talbots. I don't believe I have ever found myself sized out of their skirts, but sometimes they are hopelessly boxy on me.

Jackets do start at 2s and always have in my recollection, but the stores have historically not stocked them.

  88. OT-

I was able to snag a applique floral tee on pop-back last week with my rewards card.

It's in perfect condition and I'd like to keep it that way. Has anyone used fray-check on the edges to keep it from fraying?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Agentsuperstar: I tried the knotted starfish dress and it is TTS. I really wanted it too, however, the zipper at the back is a mess. It is a very cheap one and I almost couldn't zip myself up because it was catching on the fabric. So it was a pass for me.

DaniBP: I knew you would get a kick out of that one. ;)

  90. Upcoming new arrivals in skirt and sweaters, as seen in GSP Paramus:
Two more tweed pencil skirts (yay!).
One is darker color with flecks of dark green, purple and pewter. I think a lot of JCAs will like it. Knee length and TTS. I think $118.
Very nice but I have enough tweed pencils.
The other one is black and white with subtle silver sparkle. Similar look to Shimmery python from couple seasons ago. Not Thick last last year version. Very pretty and perfect for holiday parties but I did not tried it on since I bought the lace pencil.
I think it was also $118.
Lace pencil seems to still be store only for now. I like this skirt but I would say definitely SD if you like close fit. It is strechy and long. I like it in my regular size for slightly decadent long and lean look. $178.
    Sweaters
If you like Abbraccio cardigan, there is a sweater that is very similar but $118 instead of $298(!). Probably just made from different wool blend. It came in camel and green. Double breasted and slouchy with granddad charm. Size way down, it is huge.
V neck, hip length cardi in olive and silvery blue embelished with some kind of plastic(?) slightly sparkly beads along the edges. The fit and look was surprising nice and the beads actually look very pretty but it is the dreaded acrylic blend. This seemed to be selling out and they only had olive in L and XL.

    ReplyDelete
  91. One more upcoming item. They had a bonbon coat on mannequin that seem to be different color than the website version. I got really excited because it was very pretty, darker cream with camel specs. I did not want to prey it off the display and thought I would check the color online but this is not it. I think they have green version of this in the look book. Probably collection version, like green and purple griffin coat last year, likely out of my price range, arrrrghh. Too bad as it was very pretty.

  92. The model is sure selling the Plum Cody cardigan and the Crystal-sprinkled pearl bib necklace combo on page 26, looks great together...

    ReplyDelete
  93. So uninspired.... there are a couple of pieces I am interested in but again, nothing really speaks to me at Full-price like in seasons past. I used to buy three/four pairs of shoes at once, skirts/tops like crazy.

I am starting to really like Talbots more than Crew.... they do have smaller sizes, go to retail and try. They do have 2P as I have purchased that size recently.

BTW - Ann Taylor is putting out nice shoes/leather soles at reasonable prices. Crew used to have that... now they are all man-made soles not worth the prices they are charging!

    ReplyDelete
  94. The paper chain necklace looks like ammunition links. I feel like I need to carry an M4 with it.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hi, Ema. Talbot's sizing confounds me. Skirts and suiting type jackets do start at 2, you're right. Dresses and coats do not, however. They start at 4. And as Kitsmommy pointed out, that often translates to a 6 because their cuts tend to be bigger and boxier. I cannot do petites because they are too short in length, too short in the torso and their sleeves are too short. I'm a tall person :) So although the dress comes in 2 in the petite section, it doesn't work for me. I agree that sweaters can work, as long as it is cut reasonably slim I can wear an XS.

I had such high hopes for their fall clothes and the manager of my local store told me several times that she'd been hearing sizing was going to be adjusted for fall. It's exactly the same as it's always been.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Just a note--looks like the sequin harem pants are already backordered, and larger sizes are already sold out. So either they can't sew those sequins on fast enough, or they're really popular!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have so many coats from previous years that I doubt I'll buy any this year. I would love more sweater jackets but not so thick. I did order plaid shirts, the Cody cardigan and the Crystal Patterns necklace. I normally never order the jewelry without seeing it first so here's hoping. I like a few of the other necklaces but I can't bring myself to pay $100+ for costume jewelry.

    ReplyDelete
  98. The item I love the most is the ciel etole cardi in natural. If I love it just as much IRL, then I may spring for this at FP. I am also interested in trying on the cecilia cami and the textured jersey tee. I haven't bought a jeweled necklace yet and I like the crystal patterns necklace in antique gold. I may have to keep on eye on this one for a promo or markdown. The rest is just meh. I love the orange mini, but can't and won't wear a skirt that short, plus it seems overpriced for a mini. There are a couple of cute crewcuts items I'm interested in for my niece and nephew, but not like in the past where I've wanted almost every girls' items.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Well, I'm fairly disappointed but maybe some things will grow on me in time. There seems to be quite a bit that I already have in just slightly different form or color. The marled shawl cardi for example. I bought the donegal shawl cardi last year in both heather rosewood and heather carbon. It was so flattering and cozy, I had to get both colors. I wore them a lot and there was no discernable pilling The arrow sweater jacket is nice, but it is too similar to another non-J.Crew sweater jacket I own with a notched collar that is more flatting than the arrow's wide collar, for my top-heavy frame.

The stadium cloth peacoat and swish tank look lovely but none of the colors are appealing to me at the moment. I do love J.Crew's coats and particularly the stadium cloth so I may have to succumb. I bought the stadium cloth Bridget and Shipley in W08, then added the Boulevard trench and Winnie jacket last year. I have a closet full of coats but for a Southern girl transplanted to Canada, I need all the warmth I can get. Maybe I'm good for coats this season but I predict there will be a "special" one that I will just have to have, maybe for the holiday release.

BTW, it looks like there are still some Boulevard trenchs available online. With the 30% discount they are a great deal. Fit TTS and very well-made. The stadium cloth is very warm, great for those of us with "real" winters.

Oh, and thank you Gigi, I pulled the review of the Shipley from your blog as I could not find the J.Crew page. Such a helpful resources, as are all the other blogs with photos and reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  100. OMG - I am in total shock - I just looked at the catalog online - hideous, just hideous :( I think this is the absolute bottom of the barrel for JCrew. The catalog is so dark and drab - preparing us for our "winter of discontent"? It actually looks like it was shot in my old college apartment from the 80s - I think I had a throw pillow just like the navy floral one seen in several shots. I am absolutely speechless - I guess I will lovingly break out my Fall clothes from past years while wishing I had purchased more on my wishlist. Tonight I will fondly flip through my old catalogs and pay homage to the late, great J.Crew of previous seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Desert Flower, thanks for clarifying the Talbot's sizing. I have picked up a catalog while I was at the store and all the jackets starts at 2 in misses but you are right, the only one coat that they have starts at 4 (and 2P). But as I said the items that I have tried weren't too big on me.

I have spotted the greenish (collection) version of the bonbon coat in the last issue of Harpers Bazaar. It was picked as the IT coat of the season. The price is $425 and will be available on net-a-porter.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Another example of poor editing. The Downtown skinny jean should be named the ADD jean. It can't decide whether it sits on the hips with a 33" inseam, or sits lower on the hips with a 32" inseam. And apparently it is scheduled to launch on December 2. But it is online now. They look cute though, I added them to my cart and they are scheduled to ship in September.

The paper chain necklace is way over the top ridic IMO. It does indeed look like the paper chains of childhood, only spraypainted flat black. Hideous!

The Plaid boyfriend cardigan looks promising. Added to my cart for contemplation. Would love to see it in a nice color though. Not sure I need *yet another* gray sweater, even in plaid.

  103. Oooof. OT but I went to the event at the Houston Galleria - the "exclusive handpicked gift from Jenna Lyons" was one of the canvas totes. Which is a $10 item. Tomorrow starts Tax Free weekend in Texas. Tax on $150 (minimum to get the gift) is $12.38.

    Guess I'll be returning tomorrow.

Why they gotta make me feel like a chump?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Girlification of Jules, did they offer 10% on all purchases? Or was the tote the whole deal?

If that's the whole deal, a tote, I'm glad I didn't make the trip and just placed an order for the items I can wear now.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Elizabeth, they didn't offer me a percent off.

They had cookies and I think sparkling grape juice - it could have been wine.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Noooo, I would have been so annoyed; I thought I read there was a 10% discount which is not great but something. To go the opposite way in traffic at 5:00 p.m. to be greeted with a $10. tote would annoy me no end. Weekends are when I go so this would have been a sacrifice - for juice and a cookie? They should have done this on the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  107. OK, just so we can all feel really hip and young, just saw on Entertainment Tonight that Britney Spears was spotted with baby in arm in a Bettina Cami in Warm Taupe, worn with...(drum roll please) daisy dukes. Yep. You can totally rock JC with your casual basics.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Well, I was waiting to get my one jacket this fall until I saw what was in the September catalog. I've settled on the Stripe Marché jacket! I love the longer, slouchier blazers. The shrunken jacket thing got very tiring. I still think the colors, fabrics, and design are SO much nicer than Talbots, AT, ATL, or BR that they're not even comparable. The others just look tacky, especially if I visit JCrew first.

I got an invitation for a "teacher event" on Saturday, August 28, from 9-1 at the U. Village store in Seattle. They're offering 20% off on purchases over $150. But the teacher discount is 15% on any full price any time. . . don't get what's so special. Anyone else get this?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Sydney, if I could wear those sequin pants, I'd be right there with you. Actually, I'd call you to make sure we're not showing up to the same events in them. *lol* I think they probably only made a few pair in each size, hence the backordre.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I forget who asked, but I just online chatted with a J. Crew rep and yes, the natural colored leopard fedora is sold out, although it may still be in stores.

But how about that Lemlem Wanza obi belt?

    ReplyDelete
  111. The best I can say is that the catalog seems to lack a cohesive point of view. You've got those crazy sequin harem pants (personally, I think they're hideous) and other bag-lady layered looks in the same catalog with the clean lines of pencil skirts and suiting dresses. Even the wedding section is schizophrenic (but I have to say I love the fact that someone has finally designed a wedding gown that an older broad--I mean bride--could proudly wear--the long-sleeved, vintagey 1950's style gown is awesome for someone in my age range (I'm well into my 40's).

J.Crew seems to be having an identity crisis. Personally, I would roll over and die if someone came up to me and said, "Darling, you look just like little Edie Beale at summer camp." I'll just stick with my Jackie cardigans, chinos, and pencil skirts, thank you very much.

BTW, I almost shot coffee through my nose when I saw dude on page 104.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Does it bother anyone else that the soles of the boots are man-made or rubber? For tall leather I like all leather; do they make those anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Sadly disapointed with the Jenna Lyons "hand picked" gift wih a $150 purchase last evening. Seriously - the $10 canvas bag that they have already sent some J.Crew fans via mail as free token gift. WTF???

I did purchase the Wool Fallyn Skirt in Dusty Rose - it is gorgeous! I normally wear a 0 or 2 in their skirts - but definitely needed the 2 in this one. 0 was too tight across the hips but could still zip it up and move. Also, puchased the Striped Pocket Tee in warm taupe. Sized up to a Small as the sleeves were very snug in the XS.
J.Crew has made it easy to stay in budget this fall - for now!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I have yet to check out the latest arrivals (past few days have been so hectic!) but I am excited to take a look this morning. After their last few rollouts I'm honestly not expecting much. Like Alexis, I miss the excitement of collections past...

One thing, somewhat OT, that I wanted to mention is that in all my September fashion mags I keep seeing a $34.95 H&M trench that I think is amazing! I've never been a big H&M fan but I have every intention of heading to a store at some point to check it out. Reminds me quite a bit of J.Crew's trench in terms of style, though it is clearly an early fall/rainy day piece, presumably cotton, as opposed to JC's wool cashmere. I'd say that's about right for the $34.95 price tag.

And speaking of coats, thank you thank you thank you to all my fellow JCAs who let me know earlier in the week that last year's Ingenue coat was a hidden sale item! It is long backordered but with the 30% off sale price I got it for I can wait :) I hope I didn't jump the gun but I just can't imagine JC rolling out a coat I love more this season based on what I've seen so far - although I will agree the wool cashmere trench is lovely.

On a completely separate note (apologies for my early morning ramblings) did anyone else get in on the Gap/Groupon deal yesterday? I thought that was an absolutely brilliant strategy to get customers into their stores, albeit one I could not foresee J.Crew doing. For those who have no clue what I'm talking about, the daily deal site Groupon offered their first nationwide deal yesterday, $25 for $50 worth of merchandise at Gap stores. (Really wanted to post it here, but I was absolutely mobbed at work so I apologize.) They sold something like 300,000 in 24 hours. What a great way to get customers into their stores and introduce their new fall merchandise! And seeing this deal, I thought wow, I'm a great customer at JC and the only promo they give me is $25 after I've spent $500! I'm a JC girl through and through but this week only I think I'm Team Gap ;)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dara, I registered for Groupon months ago and I get the coupon emails but haven't used them. I saw the Gap 50% promo but I haven't been to Gap in years. Is that how it works, you just go in and say I have a Groupon coupon and get 50% off?

    I can't believe 300,000 in 24 hours, amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Finally ON TOPIC...
Loving the plaid Minnies (have yet to try on any Minnies so they're on my to-do list) and the sequin bloomers which are, of course, sold out on day one due to limited production. Saw a pair in my B&M and they were stunning but not my size. I expected them to be priced like a true collection item so $98 was a pleasant surprise.

No other must haves. And despite loving the bloomers, I am so bored with all the sequined items I have nowhere to go in. Maybe I need to start attending more galas? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  117. Hi Elizabeth,

The way it works is that each Groupon purchase has its own unique numeric code, so after you buy one you can just print it out (or show it to the merchant on your iPhone app) and they honor it. I'm kind of obsessed with Groupon for local stuff like boat cruises, wine classes, restaurants, etc. I never thought a huge international retailer like the Gap would go the Groupon route but I'm sure glad they did!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Thanks Dara, I should download the iPhone app, I get the emails but I've never made an actual purchase. Thanks!

As for sequins, the one sparkly item I'm really liking is the Ciel Etoile cardigan, it seems subtle.

Years ago 2004/2005 for holiday they did a basic shirt, I think white and pink, and two or three plain cashmere cardigans and suede loafers all with the same crystal encrusted buttons. Simple but with subtle sparkle; loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Worst.rollout.ever. Ever.

And I don't think I am overstating things here. Nothing - not even ONE THING - I want. Like so many others, I used to to mark practically the entire catalog for my wishlist. It's a sad day.

Only caveat is that I haven't seen anything IRL yet, but at this rate, not dying to.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Dara, they had several pairs of the sequin bloomers in the Houston Galleris store last night. Don't know what size.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Elizabeth,

I have that shirt in pink with the gorgeous crytal ball buttons. It is really nice fabric and well made.

(Not like some of the paper thin shirts JCrew makes now...I don't know how people can pay good money for them. Like the pillar Paisley that is so thin.)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Genny that is fantastic that you have the shirt with the crystal buttons, so lucky! I didn't think anyone would remember that and I've always thought it was the most perfect level of "holiday" wear. And their quality was amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Thanks Elizabeth,

I am a HUGE JCrew fan from around 2000-8 and own so much from the older catalogs--it seems like I used to own something on every catalog page! I also used to spend $$$ and I know those catalogs like the back of my hand. I am very gentle on my clothes and keep everything JCrew:)from those golden years:)

    ReplyDelete
  124. PS

I wear my shirt with an ivory/off white pair of JCrew dressy cords and pink ballet flats. The outfit looks perfect for the month of December.

  125. Did anyone else actually buy the sequin harem pants? I know there are a ton of people who HATE them, but I loved them on Jenna, loved them on the Martha Stewart show, and preordered them back in May, and STILL haven't received them. Yes, yes, I received an order confirmation, and an order update - it's not a matter of whether they have my order. I'm just wondering if anyone else who ordered them has actually received them and what their IRL opinions are...
