J.Crew News: What's Happening Today? {Monday edition}

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am on vacation! Unfortunately, I won't be able to keep up with all the latest J.Crew news, promos, and the like.

So this post is the "catch all" for J.Crew Aficionadas and Aficionados to share with one another the "current happenings" for today. Feel free to post your comments here- from current J.Crew promotions, sales, emails, and even questions on products (regarding fit & size), and the like. :)

What comments do you want to share or ask of other Aficionadas and Aficionados? What is currently happening (in terms of promos, sales, emails, products, and the like)?

  1. J. Crew 25% off ALL orders code TURKEY exp. Nov. 28.

  2. Nice promo, but like most of us, I won't use it without the free shipping!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yup - not without free shipping. At this point, there isn't anything in my shopping cart anyway - even if there was free shipping included. Maybe some scarfs for gifts. Does anyone know if there are any more holiday roll-outs?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Love that the TURKEY promo applies to store purchases as well. I will do my best to stay away though... have done enough shopping for me myself and I in the past month and need to start focusing on holiday gifts. Certainly won't be buying people gifts from JC with that wonky return policy.

  5. Not interested....blew through the sale section during the last promo with 30% off and free ship to stock up on disposable tees. The full priced stuff is unattractive even with the discount. Throw in free shipping and I'm still going to cringe at going back to the store to do a full return. I think I will start looking at lands end, Ann Taylor and Boden for cute things....Jcrew has completely lost me with their returns policy and awful styling.

  6. Yes, even with this new promo I will not be buying from JC at b&m due to their ridiculous return policy. Which other mall retailer does this no store credit for past 30 days? F21? HM?

Also without free shipping I won't be ordering online.

  7. I don't plan on placing an order without free shipping either.

  8. Not without free shipping! C'mon, JC - Gap, AT, Loft, LE/Canvas just did 30% with free shipping, Tal's is now doing 25% with...wait for it... free shipping!

This is no 2008 "Turkey" promo, that's for sure. ;)

  9. Garnet Hill has free ship no minimum for the next 8 days. As far as I can tell no code needed in the email I got!

I held strong and did not order during the 30% off sale at JCrew last week. Nothing I wanted to make the total of $150 AFTER the promo is applied and I refuse to pay shipping. Take away the educator's discount as well on full priced items--nope was not going to buy JCRew unless I can get the deals/price point I want.

I did buy from Talbots though:) Yeah! Really happy with my purchases and no need to worry about defective or wrong items beign received. What a relief! Plus 90 day return policy.

  10. Does anyone know if the 30% off coats is still running in stores and if these promos can be combined?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I may be the only one shopping with this promo. I procrastinated on buying some things I need for a Friday night (yes in four days) event so I had to pay for Express shipping anyway. The 25% off this morning really cheered me up.
I seem to recall last year there was a lack of promos around Thanksgiving, do I remember correctly?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, this looks like it's gonna be it for Thanksgiving since the promo runs through Sunday. It would be nice if they'd add free shipping to it.

  13. I would've bought the long-sleeve perfect shirt on sale IF they had an additional 25% off without minimum and/or free shipping.

The additional % off usually covers shipping and taxes for me.

I am going to peruse BR for a classic shirt instead. They just sent an email for additional 30% off today (code: MONDAY30) with free shipping over $50.

  14. Not only does the TURKEY discount not include free shipping, but it's only good for purchases of $150 or more. I'll pass.

Genny, could you double-check your e-mail about the Garnet Hill offer? I just went to their web site and I don't see anything about free shipping. Maybe there actually is a code? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mack- I believe next rollout is December 6 week at my store. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  16. Garnet Hill free shipping: I received an email yesterday. Just rechecked it and there is no code. Very unusual (but good!) promotion for them.

Lauren PhD, ifyou leave your email address I will try and forward my email to you.

  17. No free ship = no order.
I think they're going to have to add the free ship for black friday or seriously lose sales to competitors.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I would have loved free shipping, but I bit as the discount really helped on a dress I was waiting to purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does anyone know if the 30% off promo is still going on at the Crewlets? Also, if the Crewlet has retail merchandise, do they do price matches?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Has anyone tried the back-zip ballet flats? Do JC flats usually run true to size?

    ReplyDelete
  21. No, not without free shipping and a reasonable return policy.

Silver lining, I want to go back to 2008 turkey too!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lauren PhD,

I do not see a code on my email.
I would try and sign up for their emails if you are interested. They don't send too many and while I don't order a lot from them they do have some good promos:)

  23. J.Crew 25% off ALL orders, Code Turkey. The fine print should say, help yourself to another helping of bad styling...who says your closet can't handle another 5lbs of unwanted fat?

LOL- my word verification (no joke): hesizesu

    ReplyDelete
  24. Has anyone tried the Dorian wedges or the archer peep toe ankle boots? I would love to hear any feedback on them I am considering ordering one of them! TIA

    ReplyDelete
  25. Alexia,

I own the back-zip ballet flats in black and it's TTS for me. I had also ordered the flats in Bronzed Clay and those felt more snug (toes felt crammed in) compared to the black pair; not exactly sure why that was. It could just be me, but I feel awkward walking around in them. The rubber sole is nice, but makes a "clomping" sound when I'm walking and the heel (where the zipper is) is a bit high up on my ankle. In general, JC flats have always been a bit snug for me and I don't really have wide feet - however, they do stretch out a just little bit to conform to your feet.

    ReplyDelete
  26. DaniBP, you are not alone! LOL
I ordered a pair of boots (Weatherby riding boots in black). Unfortunately, they don't ship until Dec 2nd, per website, and of course, I wish I had them tomorrow :)
    I promise a review.

  27. WTF? Why take away free shipping? AARRRGGGHHHHH J Crew, I love you, I defend you, I still buy from you but my GOODNESS you make me MAD!

If you take the extra 25% off in store, is that final sale?

Not to mention I saw some big price jumps in the outlet items overnight. Some down, some up, and all during the extra30 promo. I just don't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I just got the Dorian wedges. I think they're really cute. They fit TTS. I haven't road tested them yet, so I can't speak to all day comfort, but they seem comfy to start. I probably won't get a lot of use out of them til spring, but I thought they looked super cute w/jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jruby8- did you get the same size as you would get in ballet flats? I wear 8 in flats but 7.5 most other places so that made me unsure!

What color did you pick? I was thinking they might be really cute with tights too maybe?

    Thanks so much for sharing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Elaine, not sure if you are interested, or anyone else . . . but there are some amazing deals right now at the Outlet.

I went over my lunch hour and saw that pajama pants are $19.99, Jackie cardigans are 40% off, all sweaters are 40% off, clearance is an extra 30% off . . .pretty much everything is on sale!

The purpose of my trip was to get another pair of pajama pants so I was pleased to see an even bigger discount to $19.99. Ended up getting a sequin tank that was 30% off . . .it's very cute, has rose gold sequins on a light grey/oatmeal background (don't think it was on-line). Also grabbed another jackie cardigan . .live in those in AZ . .and am thinking of going back to get more colors.

If you live near an outlet, it might be worth stopping by! (I have had great luck with my factory cotton sweaters & skirts, as well as the silk camis.)

  31. One of my local B&Ms (Tysons Galleria, VA) had the Colletta coat in dark plum on sale for $169.99 (item no. 29578, orig. price $298) -- it is still full price online. I did not see any other colors -- from what I have seen, this particular store carries an unpredictable mix of outerwear. I couldn't resist -- with the 25% off, it was about $127.50. I already have the Colletta with thinsulate in cobblestone, and it's a very pretty coat. Similar vibe as the lady day. The color is GREAT -- not raisin-y or merlot-ish, as shown on the website, more of a dusky plum which I think makes it more wearable with a variety of colors...

  32. Just wanted to make mention of a couple items I ordered during the 30% promo. Hth someone:

-Dream sweater-jacket, item 29189, color rope: I was expecting a slightly off white color, not a creamy camel-like color. Also, the plastic piece the zipper is sewn to is coming out of the bottom of the sweater. Be sure to check your sweater at the bottom before you wear it. I don't care for the zipper pockets, color and the fact it's damaged or already showing signs of poor craftsmanship.

Factory two-pocket chambray shirt item 32043: I LOVE this shirt!! TTS. It's cut slim but not as slim as a perfect shirt, fits across back, shoulders and chest (not the I can't lift my arms feeling I've been experiencing w/some of JCrew button-downs), fabric feels nice and it's a beautiful shade of blue.

Muse Tank item 32367: a little delicate but cute alone or w/a sweater/jacket. Not as billowy as shown on the model - maybe due to shipping flat.

  33. OT - I forgot to mention, today's Los Angeles Groupon is Nordstrom Rack. $25 for $50 worth of merch. I posted on it here.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gigi- did you like the fair isle sweater? It is my favorite thing that I have bought from jc in a very long time! I found it to fit tts to even though they had the xxs available too!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jcrewlove, I got the 8's. I'm usually a 7.5 in most other shoes, but for some reason, I almost always go w/an 8 in JC shoes. Even ballets, although, I could probably do a sz. 7.5. And yes, I do think they'd look really cute w/tights. I got the shadow color. It's a nice dark grey. HTH!

  36. I stopped by the J.Crew Factory store today, and picked up the Charcoal Arrow Sweater for $42! I love it, and can't believe the price.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Denimologista: At which factory store did you get such a great deal? I was at my Crewlet on Saturday and saw a charcoal Arrow sweater, but it was only marked down to $98 with an additional 30%...definitely not $42! What was yours marked down to? Would love to try and go to mine tomorrow and get them to price match from your store! (do they do that?)

  38. I'm excited about this promo because I've had my eye on the Dixon tall boots for a while and didn't have the extra cash during the last 25% off promo. But yes, I'm disappointed that they aren't offering free shipping. You'd think that of all times, they would offer the promo with free shipping at Thanksgiving. I'm going to wait until Friday to order and I'm crossing my fingers that they'll cave and offer the free shipping for Black Friday. Otherwise, I guess I'll just bite the bullet and buy pay the extra $17.50.

  39. I got a super nice CS on the phone, and she applied the 25% discount off my last 2 orders that I placed a couple of days ago and have not yet received. It's worth a try if you placed any full priced orders!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, and both my orders were over $150 to have the promo applied.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jruby thanks so much for sharing! I didn't realize the shadow is a gray it looked blueish on my monitor! It will order those! Thanks so much for your help!

    ReplyDelete
  42. AppGal, I am in Vero Beach, Florida for the holiday, which is the only time I go to the Factory stores. The Arrow was marked down to $59.50, then there was an extra 30% off of that, bringing it to $42. I couldn't believe it. But there were only XS and S left, and only in the charcoal.

There were also Retail Minnies for $29.99 + 30% off (about 21 bucks).

    ReplyDelete
  43. What is the quality/material difference between the retail version of the arrow sweater and the factory/outlet one? Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Denimologista: Thanks! Fingers crossed I get the same deal!

Hlei: A lot of Crewlets are getting the actual retail Arrow...it's not a Crewlet version. They must have made a lot of them!

  45. the following is excerpted from a report published tonight in the blog Deal Book, reported by Michael J. DeLa Merced and Andrew Ross Sorkin:

    J. Crew, the trendy clothier of choice for the likes of Michelle Obama, is near a deal with the buyout firms TPG Capital and Leonard Green & Partners, people with direct knowledge of the matter told DealBook on Monday.

As of Monday evening, however, some of these people believed the talks were still in peril because of a dispute over price.

Under the terms of the proposed deal, TPG — a former owner of the retailer — and Leonard Green would work with the company’s chairman and chief executive, Millard S. Drexler, these people said.

The deal is expected to be announced Tuesday, these people said. They requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the talks. The company is also scheduled to announce earnings on Tuesday.

Prospects for the deal looked more dire earlier on Monday amid a dispute on the price of the proposed transaction, which could not be learned.

  46. WFF...what dos this mean to us?? Perhaps the return to what once was??

    Interesting and thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  47. CharlotteSometimes, you posted in a different topic about the soleil bracelet. What store did you see it in?

    ReplyDelete
  48. re the potential buyout.
I would not hold out too much hope of a return to quality and wearable clothing..... Mickey is likely to stay. However, the ONLY reason a buyout firm would be interested in is because the stock is down so much YTD. That tells the story. Forget who your customers are and weep.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ Emily - Maybe TPG got a real 20% off Mickey card in their catalog!

Charcoal Arrows have been in the crewlet for a few weeks - I got mine two weeks ago. There was a 25% off $125 purchase at the Premium Outlets which brought my Arrow down to $35.

The beach cardigan is also at the crewlet - got it in gold for about $40 - selling for $89.50 - plus 40% off sweaters plus aforementioned 25%. I have the silver from retail this summer and side by side - I can't tell the difference. RN #'s on tag are identical. Gold crewlet seems softer and TTS.

Retail Silver is 80% viscose while gold is 82% rayon -I guess you pay more to get the fancy name for rayon. ;-)

  50. My sister picked up the stadium cloth element coat for me at the store. We thought we could get 25% off $325. However, the clerk rang it twice and she explained that because I spent more than $150. I paid $195, so it is like 40% off. I don't know if it is a mistake or not 'cause I thought the first 25% off is what it is for, but I am happy. You might want to check your store.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks, AppGal! I will stop by the outlet and check it out! =)

  52. Desert Flower,

Love your post on FFM's blog about how "Talbots is like the JCrew of Old". That is how I feel EXACTLY. You made my day confirming my feelings and experience with that store recently.
