JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Any ideas for the bright flame Hacking Jacket? The only ideas I have right now are to wear it with jeans or my heather acorn pencil skirt. Those ideas are just so bland, so I was wondering what other JCA's were wearing it with.

  2. Stene, i am planning to get the vibrant flame schoolboy jacket so while the cuts are different from the Hacking, i thought i'd share with you my outfit ideas for the color.
    1. Tonal combination with pink pants or blush skinny jeans. Then if you bit into the leopard craze, you can wear either leopard scarf or pumps.
    2. Maritime dress in navy or Saint James nautical tee paired with dark jeans. You can also pair with a red bag or shoes.
    3. Pair with navy or camel dress. You can push the envelope by combining vibrant flame + navy + purple. . :-)

  3. Just bought a black Natalie dress from Talbots. It's from their fall collection, but it looks like a summer dress to me. How would you take it into fall?

  4. Hello ladies! Can anyone suggest how I can style my dazzling dots pencil skirt? I have the factory version in dove gray, which is a blue-gray color with gold dots.

I've had it since spring but haven't figured out to wear it. It's probably too spring-y to wear now, but I'd still like some ideas!

I'm thinking I'd like to find a way to wear it perhaps for a weekend brunch or out to dinner. I'm usually a pastel person, so I don't know how to wear it in a way that doesn't look like I'm headed to church for Easter. I also don't think I can get away with the Michelle Obama sparkly outfit. It does go nicely with nude heels and slim cut Perfect Shirts, but that's boring. :)

    Thank you!

  5. Longtime lurker, first time commenter. I just bought the Leather Tipped Bell Skirt in the beige herringbone, after trying it on a whim. I love the skirt, longer than the typical JC mini. Any fun suggestions on how to wear it?

  6. I have general question re. how you wear your blazers.
I am in NJ and is always seems either too cold or too warm to wear them. I love the hacking jacket in blue but I am afraid it will not get much wear. For those in similar climate, will you wear it under coat in the winter? Is is too stuffy with pencil skirt in business casual office (nobody wears suits and some people are very casual but many women wear pencil skirts and such). Can it go with pants other than jeans/matchstick cords? Do you treat them simply as outerwear, i.e if you work in the office do you just hung it up like a coat once you get there?

  7. ajc - I am in Toronto, so very similar climate to yours. I wear my blazers as much as I can in the fall and early spring, and in the winter I often bring them to work and just put them on when I take my coat off. So I'll travel to and from work in a shell/sweater/blouse/whatever with my winter coat over top, and then when I get to my office I basically switch out the winter coat for the blazer. It's not ideal, but it works for me and allows me to avoid wearing a blazer under another jacket, which I find very uncomfortable.

I definitely don't think a blazer with a pencil skirt is too formal, especially if they are different colours and fabrics. At the Toronto store opening one of the SAs was wearing the viridian green pencil skirt with a button down, a bright yellow (borderline lime green) sweater and the caramel schoolboy blazer and she looked phenomenal and not at all formal or stuffy. HTH!

  8. Thanks Caitlin, I decided to order the jacket to give it a try. I don't know why it never occurred to me to bring the blazer to work in the winter.

  9. I am doing a photo shoot for a billboard in town and they want us to wear 'bright fall like attire', so I bought the No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge wool in vibrant red and in viridian green. I would typically pair both of them with either black, white or camel for everyday, but since they want us to wear something bright for the shoot, I am struggling on what to pair. I still want to look classic, and not too trendy, so any ideas?

  10. Stene, what about a teal or turquoise? I love orange with both of those shades. And sky blue would also be pretty.
