Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. Did anybody stop by the Tysons in McClean, Virginia store? If yes, what was still lingering in the sale section and how about the new arrivals? TIA

  2. I went shopping and got the Watson wedges, leopard pencil skirt, watercolor scarf and some 40% goodness. Here's the pics:

  3. I returned. No buying. The fall colors are beautiful.

  4. I didn't go.
I'm thinking of doing a "shop and share" event with a hand full of local JCAs. Would any JCAs in OC area be interested in meeting up for a quick event? Email me at jcrewphd at gmail.

Alexis, let me know if this isn't okay to post here. I'll take it down. Thanks!

  5. I know this isn't exactly the right place to post this but does anyone have any experience with either the featherweight cotton cardigan or whisper linen cardigan? I need a bright pink cardigan and am considering these but have no experience with fit or feel. TIA!

  6. Stopped at a Factory store while doing some back-to-school shopping for the kids. Meh, didn't buy anything. I can't get past the quality issue on most of the made-for-Factory items.

On the positive side, the new Factory "Roses" print is very pretty, the Factory tortoise jewelry has some nice-looking pieces, and I agree that the Factory Schoolboy is as good or maybe better quality than this year's Retail version.

  7. I didn't go into the store, but I placed an online order (oops) ... while doing so I chanced upon a J Crew-only lipstick made by Poppy King. Of course I ordered one, even though it won't ship until 11 Aug. Does anyone know anything else about it other than the basics? Has anyone actually seen it IRL or received it yet?

I remember Poppy from my days in beauty product marketing in the 90s and apparently she's collaborating with JC and also kate spade right now.

I'm just looking for an accurate read on the color, etc. It sounds very intriguing! Hope it ships.

And I'm really mad that at the last minute I dropped some FACE Stockholm nail polish from my cart, because you can't get the JC shades anywhere else either. GRRR.

Also, online had some very interesting popbacks yesterday. Lots of handbags!

  8. OperaRach - don't buy the cotton featherweight - my coworker wore hers last week for the first time and a huge gaping hole appeared at the back of the neckline. Terrible quality!

  9. At factory, they have a version of the double serge wool pencil skirt in black, dark gray, and tawny olive. The olive color is nice but the wool is SO rough.

Agree with ruffles re: factory schoolboy.

They also have some adorable calf hair headbands for $19.50 (always on some sort of promo though).

Oh, and they had the lockwood hobo, retail version, tan color, for $168 minus 20% promo. Not a bad deal. I want it now that I've seen it in person!

All denim was $39.99. In my experience the factory denim is just as good as the comparable retail item. I have some toothpicks that I love, thinking of picking up another pair for that price.

  10. Has anyone noticed if the large resin links necklace in tortoise is on sale in stores? It was on sale on the web site for a minute, but then disappeared.

  11. I went to the Michigan avenue store this weekend and they have brought back the EXACT SAME SILK CARGO DRESS from last year. The store only had the honey color but they had probably 2 size runs out in different locations throughout the store. I was kicking myself because a size 10 had gone on popback Friday for $59 and I didn't buy it - only to find dozens of them hanging in my local store for $128! Great dress though. I almost broke down and bought it but realized that it'll be winter here in Chicago next month and I won't have the opportunity to wear it that often. (joke - it'll be winter here in september though).

  12. Off topic, but ... did anyone else get one of those charmless "news about your order" e-mails in regards to the brand-new merchandise? I got one this morning telling me one of the double-serge no. 2s I ordered THE DAY IT SHOWED UP ON THE WEBSITE won't be fulfilled. Was on back-order will mid-August when I ordered, now un-ordered through infinity. Way to run a business, j.crew!

  13. The UVIllage store had an almost non-existing sales section, but had several Jardin skirts in 2 colours and one paisley print in size 0.

The Tulalip outlet store has the following promos in the store:
    Knits 40% off
    Graphic tees 40% off
    Outerwear 30% off
    Knit tanks 50% off
    Shorts 20% off
    Cardis 30% off
    Dresses $10 off

    Sale items 60% off.

They also introduced a rose print in many items: perfect shirt in silk/linen that looks like a really good quality. Also a cardigan, a pencil skirt, a dress, a tank top. I will have some photos with some of these items soon.

  14. OperaRach, I have several cotton featherweights and thankfully no hole problems. I order my same Jackie size. I do find the sleeves stretch out with wear; however, as an extremely lightweight sweater to have on hand for chilly stores/restaurants/office buildings I love them.

  15. OperaRach - I tried the featherweight cotton cardigan (41103) in agate and returned it. I didn't see any fit or quality issues. I don't sew and don't know what the official lingo would be but I didn't like the rolled seam on the placket or whatever that is. You can see it if you zoom in and look towards the center of the model's body. It's a subtle detail, but not for me. On the upside, the featherweight is light enough, but not too light. I wish I could say I've tried the whisper linen, but haven't. I can see that they're two different pinks. The featherweight/neon pink looks more saturated than the whisper linen/neon azalea. also, the azalea looks like it has a little purple tone to it. Maybe that'll help as well w/your decision.

  16. I got the indigo floral perfect shirt in the mail on Friday. I sized down to a 0, from my usual 2. The shirt is a tiny bit see-through, but the all-cotton gives it more crispness than the silk-cotton blends. It goes great with the chambray blazer and white matchsticks and should look good with navy, taupe, plum and gray in the fall.

My only small disappointment when I first saw it out of the bag, was that it is a single shade of slightly grayed cobalt blue--more blue than the scarf, which I've seen in stores. I thought from the catalog that there would be several shades of blue in the print, which would have made it look richer. Not a deal-breaker, but for some reason, I have trouble finding really nice blue prints that can be dressed up. Would love a Casbah type print in blue.

  17. I went to my local store yesterday, and there were no sale items whatsoever. Kind of disappointing that there weren't any sale items to look through.

  18. Just popped into Prince St. NYC store. The entire sale section is cleared out except for shoes.

  19. @ StaciStaci, Gigi, and Karen

Thank you so much for the sweater info. I'm trying to find a light, pink sweater that will go with my sunshine peony pencil skirt since I have nothing but I know what you mean about the colors - I have no idea if Neon Azalea is going to go or not. There's also the forever cotton cardigan in flamingo but every time I put that in my cart and hesitate it's gone

  20. OperaRach, I have the flamingo forever cotton cardigan and I really like the cardi and the color but I would say it is not the 'right' pink tone for the sunshine peony pencil skirt. I saw that skirt IRL multiple times and I have the cardi in the same print. The flamingo forever cardi is not enough of a fuschia toned pink to work with that skirt imo. I mean maybe you could get away with it but I think you might be unhappy if you were ordering the flamingo of that cardi specifically to go with that skirt...anyway, just my 2 cents

  21. I stopped by this weekend because I had my rewards card and only like to spend that in store, so I don't loose out on it.

I purchase the Minnies in bright flame. I love them! They are certainly bright, but provide a great shot of color with neutrals or navy. Can't wait to rock them!

I also received my leopard pencil skirt in the mail over the weekend. Again, love it! The fit is fantastic. . .super flattering and it is longer than recent pencil skirts which I like. I've read several negative reviews of this skirt, comparing it to Forever21. I have to say I personally disagree. I've never stepped foot in a Forever 21, and if I did, I doubt I'd be able to find a skirt there that fit this good! Living in Arizona, I appreciate that it is cotton and the slightly washed look makes the leopard more stuble, which I prefer.

Finally, saw the new wool Schoolboy Blazers. Not impressed. I don't mind the thinner fabric due to where I live. But what I do mind is that when you flip the collar up you can see the batting (or whatever that is called)?! Seriously, on the Carmel color, you flip the collar and it is white. . .looks very unfinished. This will be a pass for me, unless I get it for $50.

Sale section was wiped out on Saturday, and they said all was being shipped away on Sunday.

Finally, I got a card in the mail saying that a Collection Store (I think) is opening at the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix. Just thought I'd mention as the card offers me 20% off $150 and expires the end of the month. As much as I don't need anything, I'll probably go check it out. :)

Sorry for the long post, but I was sick last week, so needed to catch up! :)

  22. OperaRach - I had the same dilemma with the Sunshine Peonies Skirt and it took me a while to find something that worked (and I never found the right fuschia). I recommend either a yellow (the skirt has several shades of yellow, from lemon to more mustard, so a lot of yellows went with it), a light blush- or coral-toned pink (like the Featherweight Cotton Cardi in sunwashed pink or the Jackie in pale coral) or a brown color similar to last year's wild mushroom. You could also use a color similar to the Jackie in saddle - it might not match exactly but it goes with all the colors in the skirt. HTH!

  23. Elaine,
The poppy king color is a red with more of a pink tone than orange (at least on me). it is pretty. It is in stores now, so you might be able to find it (try New Canaan, CT store they had this weekend); they also have the Face Stockholm polish in the nude pink color, the bright pink and the neon orange.
    Good luck!

  24. I just returned the Isola crinkled silk dress because it looks totally different on-line than in person. The dress I got had green-gray trim around the shoulder straps and underarm fabric and it looks totally black on-line. My dress looked very strange with this other color fabric attached. Has anyone else seen the Isola dress in person who could comment? Thanks in advance!

  25. Elaine, I got the lipstick and bright pink nail polish last week with the free ship offer. It's all I ordered and I would not have gotten it without free shipping. On me, the lipstick is no where near coral. It's more of an orange red, but not bad. I wear blue-reds everyday and can easily pull this off. The nail polish is great! So glad I got it. Love the color and it actually stays on pretty well. The lipstick must be popular, mine shipped right away but it sounds like it's on back order now. I may actually get another, I like it so much.

  26. I didn't buy 'cause I'm waiting for lower prices or a sale. When there is some kind of discount, I'll get the painter tees. They are a lot thicker than ones I bought a few years ago. I also loved the colors and the stripes. There were different stripes in the store than the website.

  27. OperaRach, I have the Sunshine Peony pencil skirt and placed my pink forever against it.....doesn't work at all. The yellow forever does work well with the yellow in the flowers. I generally play it safe and wear my Factory white Jackie over and older "golden mushroom" (no idea what the real color name is - from 3 years ago) Kelsey Ruffle top. I also have an older Jackie in the yellow family that works well with the Sunshine Peony. Hope you find something to work!

  28. Thank you to everyone for your help with the Sunshine Peony skirt dilemma! I'm still not sure what I'm going to buy to go with it but now I know what NOT to buy (so glad I didn't pounce on the forever in light flamingo).

    THANKS!!!!!

  29. No sale items at my B&M today. I'm not yet in the mood for fall (darned heat wave!) so I didn't look at the new arrivals.

  30. I have the feather weight in white and black. I also agree with the other poster to order the same size you would in the Kelly. I LOVE these sweaters! On hot days when I have a tank top on I can throw this on and run into a store/ restaurant with out getting cold or feeling under dressed. They are so small you can put it in your purse and pull it out if you need it.
