Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. I did tremendous damage during final sale last week. Got seriously schooled on how much swimwear sizing has changed from years past ... I went into more detail in a weekend post, but basically it no longer runs small and tight as it has for so many years. And overall the bikini tops and the 1-pieces run larger through the bust (more what I'd call true to size) and IMO, they also have fuller coverage -- that includes bikini tops and 1-pieces. So I have a few duds from final sale, one wrong item that's being swapped out for the right one, and 2 defective items that are being cheerfully replaced and shipped for free (yay).

I do have a few serious loves, including the Shoreline Stripe dress, which is soooo comfy and cute! Looking forward to wearing it while tooling around Disney this winter. Picked up the Ruby Check shorts, but either I'm getting fatter (likely) or they run a touch small, argh. Patience paid off that I finally got a French Terry hoodie (apricot) at a price I could stomach ... it's nothing like the French terry from a few years ago. It's extremely lightweight. I like it for warm weather though. Same with the Haya Slouchy Sweatshirt with the kangaroo pocket and grommets at the neckline -- nice and light and comfy.

I also absolutely adore the Cassis print and the Islet paisley print, both of which I loved at first sight. :D The Liberty Briland print to me is a bit more of an off-white than true white as shown online, and the 1-piece is too big for me in the bust, so I may pawn it off on my sister. :P

I'm sure there's more, but those are the highlights. HTHs someone.

  2. Elaine: It really is tough ordering final sale for swim wears especially the separates. I got burned last year so I didn't order any bikinis this year. My Casbah print 1pc swim suit is on its way though...

  3. jcrewphd, I think if I had known how much the sizing had changed, I could have avoided the few misses I had. I'm actually glad they changed the sizing/fit, I just don't recall anyone really saying things were running larger this year. It's all good -- now that I know, I can adjust accordingly! :P Overall my wins far outweighed my fails, so I'm happy.

Now if my damn Viridian Green pencil skirt would just ship already! It makes me very angry that the skirts are sitting there in stores and yet they're not shipping out to ppl who have placed orders for them, arrggghh.

  4. Elaine, have you considered seeing if the skirt is available through a WWFIFY and cancelling your backorder? Just a thought. My store also had several skirts last week, but I didn't check sizes, unfortunately.

  5. I used the chat feature to get swimsuit measurements just to gather information as did not really want to buy final sale but wanted to check on measurements and see since I had 20% and free shipping with my cardholders discount. The sizing was so different among different styles of bottoms it was just bizarre. No way was I going to chance final sale esp. on swimwear. I did like the liberty Briland print but glad I did not order it b/c I don't like underwire and if it is off white instead of white I know it would not have been to my liking. Thanks for the report, Elaine.

  6. Returned the Zip-Cable Sweater and exchanged it for the Fisherman sweater in Vintage Champagne. It's such a cute sweater. The colour is a shade warmer than the white of the summer's Shrunken Fisherman, which I found way too stark. I also like the wool blend (not sure how I feel about the acrylic content -- why does JC do that?) and think it'll be great for early fall. Definitely needs a nude bra or cami underneath as the knit is a bit loose.

  7. Elaine, for what it's worth...I enjoyed your excitement about your upcoming orders with the final sale last week - I'm sorry some of your swim orders were no good...I guess when you order a whole lot of things some will be no good - that seems to be a given... I've never had any problems with orders till this year (when I got my 'hairy popback' and then one of my forever cotton cardigans had clearly had a mark spot cleaned as the area was stretched out, like when you do that on a cotton cardi, at least not carefully! I ordered the Faded Foil Dress with this promo as it was finally avail in 00 again and it arrived - very nicely bagged on a hanger - and then when I was wearing it I saw it had a makeup stain on the front. But you know, I just ended up using a Tide to go pen on it - I didn't want to deal with trying to get a replacement. At this point I wanted to look on the bright side. I do like the dress, (or I'd have returned it esp as the sizing on it is also a little crazy, the 00 dresses are all so big...wow it is wide and roomy!). Still, a great price, as for your things...

  8. Anyone else have a MUSTSHOP order sitting in "Released" status? Order I placed very early Thursday a.m. has no tracking number. Guessing the delay is due to the hurricane but I am dreading the "we wish we made enough" email, too!

  9. For any JCA's that live in Utah, the new Fashion Place store is scheduled to open this Tuesday. Hallejujah for Crewcuts and shoes!!

Snuck into the ministore on Saturday to try on the navy puffer vest (love the not-so-puffy quilting on this year's version) in the hopes that we will see a 20% off outerwear promo soon. Picked up the in store only paisley scarf, there was no sale rack, and very little merch, as they are prepping the new store for Tuesday's opening. Had the opportunity to stick my head into the new store. GORGEOUS. So excited to finally have Crewcuts in UT.

  11. Kelley-

Thanks for the update. Any idea whether they'll be carrying shoes? Some cashmere would be great for a change too!

  12. I got a postcard over the weekend for the Fashion Place re-opening -- was hoping for a % off on the card, but no such luck.

  13. Kelley, thanks for the tip. I am heading that way in a month and am looking forward to a bigger selection. The downtown store is never stocked well enough!

  14. SE Mom, thanks for the head's up about Nordstrom. I just LOVE Nordie's! I have veered away from JCrew in the past 12 months since they went to the 30/60 day return policy; it really does temper my desire to buy ahead of season when I know I may not be able to return it if I change my mind.

Back OT, I tried on the cashmere cable sweaters and the cashmere is to die for. Seems to be better quality than previous years; however, I didn't bite because the $228 FP still seemed high even w/my 20% off coupon; waiting for a bigger promo later.

Crossed off the hacking jacket from my lust list; its longer length and heavier wool didn't work for my petite frame (even tho it comes in petites) and my southern climate. Picked up the navy schoolboy instead, though was also tempted by the houndstooth version.

  15. Thanks Sydneygirl! I feel like percentagewise I did more than OK with my final sale stuff. And who knows, if I ever take the plunge and get my teeny ta-tas inflated just a bit, then hey, the suits will fit like a dream, lol! And it helped that it was easy to do the returns -- they issued the credits and placed the replacement orders while on the phone with me, all I have to do is drop the boo-boos off at my B&M or ship them back at $0 cost, yay!

Two things I forgot to mention were in reference to the same style of swimsuit, which is the pleated style. I got a pleated bikini top and the pleated Sandswept paisley halter one-piece and, well, let's just say I won't be falling out of them anytime soon! Lots of coverage in the bust, maybe a good option for those of us who have a big bust and have troubles finding adequate coverage. My mom and sister both have that issue (I am not so lucky). :P

I'm not sure how I feel about the High Tide Tunic Dress. It feels quite roomy and I'm thinking I should have gotten a small. It's super cute though.

Forgot to add that the Durham, NC B&M had a small sale section going but nothing interesting in it.

  16. SE Mom! omg, what GREAT news! I've been chafing aout Nordstrom charging for shipping. I usually buy gifts from the website and I get mad at their high minimums just to get $5 shipping. HOORAY and thanks for the news!

  17. Kelley,

That paisely scarf has been popping up online. I bought one and it was gone in a couple of hours. It came today. So if you are not near a store keep watching the regular price scarf section:)

  18. Elaine- I got 2 sets of bikinis and it seems to me that swim this year got smaller, not bigger. And the top I got seems a bit loose in the cup. SO ODD!

    ReplyDelete
  19. pathos, absolutely i would agree the pieces i received are 'loose in the cup' ... i just know I've forever worn a size M in J Crew swimwear tops and a L in bottoms, but even the L bottom sometimes was just a little tighter than i wanted it to fit (but going up to XL, on the rare occasion that it was available, didn't work either).

this year i find the tops to, err, cover more 'square footage' up front, shall we say, and the ones that run by cup size definitely have more room in 'em than in past years. i've always had to size up to a C-cup so I wouldn't feel constricted, and this year I find myself with more than enough room up top, in those (both bikinis and 1-pieces).

i would say the bottoms are just a squidge looser. i still take the same size i took before, but i don't feel like a stuffed sausage, and that is definitely a good thing!

i bought enough different types of swimwear that i feel ok saying it seems bigger / looser to me across the board this season, but as always YMMV.

  20. Hi All,
I just got my purple Hacking jacket in 8P and it fits perfect. I am short too, 5'3" but I have wide shoulders. I did not find it too much for a small frame and the purple was less scratchy than the red for whatever reason. I got the Jezebel flare in the 28 short. They run slim fitting in the thigh and bottom.

    Have a great week everyone!

  21. I went to the Santa Fe J.Crew on Saturday but it was pretty boring...I may buy the striped Amie dress in final sale, though. I have the solid one and have been wearing it a lot this summer. Very comfortable and cute! But I still have a $25 reward card raring to go but I've been underwhelmed lately.
