Video of J.Crew at New York Fashion Week

The following "J. Crew Makes New York Fashion Week Debut" video is from The Associated Press (click here for original link).

The video shows both the upcoming Mens and Womens collection. (I love seeing how the clothes move on a real person. You get a much better sense of how the clothes drape in a video versus photo.)

In addition, Marissa Webb (Head of Women's Design) and Jenna Lyons (Creative Director/President) speak about the upcoming collection. There is also a brief sighting of Frank Mujtens, who heads the Menswear for J.Crew.

Marissa emphasizes that the collection represents classics with an updated twist. This is what J.Crew has been doing for years, and this is what they do best (in my opinion).

A lot of bright bold colors like hot pink & lime green for Spring– and yet the pieces I am attracted to are the rich colors of the striped jacket and jeweled tone dress. And that white cardigan with blue print– gorgeous! I am ready to pre-order today!

What are your thoughts on the video? Are you looking forward to the Spring Collection from J.Crew?

  1. I liked the video a lot and loved all the bright colors and prints! I think Marissa is the new Jenna.

    There. I said it.

However ... if I hear the words 'classic with a twist' one more time -- in any order, even if said twist is 'updated' -- I'm officially going to barf. lol!

  2. Elaine: HA! That last line is great. I do think "classic with a twist" is their go-to motto. And the worst part... I fall for it each season and use it over and over too! ;)

I love seeing Marissa too! It's great we are seeing more and more of her. She has a lot to offer. :)

  3. I am also very happy to see more of Marissa. :)

The colors of the collection are very pretty and a lot of the individual pieces look promising. Fingers crossed that the quality will be good!

  5. Elaine, I was thinking the same thing!
I think Marissa is fabulous, but I think I've made that pretty clear. OK a bit of a girl crush ;)
I also really liked seeing the clothes move. And I'm in love with the colors! Thanks for the post Alexis.

  6. I have been hoping that they will incorporate some fun brights this spring season. They always do such a great job. 8v)

Elaine, you cracked me up "classic with a twist" - I assume that's their credo! But I agree with Alexis, they get me every time too. Big *sigh*...

  7. Alexis, I really like that cardi too! Wonder how early we can pre-order? :) Considering it's a long way to spring, I'm guessing we'll have to wait a while. :)

I am excited about the blues and greens. I bought enough orange in the last 2 years to last me a while. :) I do love pink, too!

  8. Blues, greens, Love the chinos (look like they combined the Aviator and the Foundry to perfection.) Love the higher waisted Cafe Capri pants in the brilliant yellow, the shoes are really looking up (patterned Mary Janes !!)and that striped midi lenght skirt, destined to be a collection piece.

  9. Classic with a twist .... J.Crew isn't the only one over using that term. Listen to almost any comment by a designer or journalist and you'll her the same thing.

The men's line looks great for this fall and into spring of 2012. Before getting to jazzed about the upcoming spring line I plan to dig into fall 2011.

I can see this fall will cost me, too many things are calling my name.

  10. Love the bright colors and prints! However, as FFM said, I hope the quality is there for the high prices they will be coming with.

  14. Oh my god!!!!!! NO! I have to say that's so sad to hear. Marissa is amazing. I have loved the collections of late. She's obviously very talented. She's certainly picked the right time to leave and I wonder how they'll handle this one.
    Good Job j crew!
