Cardmember Email: Just for Cardmembers: a dress we're wild about

"Thanks!" to Irina, who shared with us the email J.Crew sent to its card members today.

The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Jules Dress in Wildcat (Item 61368 ; $188.00). J.Crew describes this Fall arrival as:
Spotted: the must-have silhouette of the season, with an elegant body-skimming shape that's sure to turn heads. We're utterly charmed by its dart detailing at the bust and on-seam hidden pockets (they're thoughtfully placed so the relaxed shape still has an incredibly flattering fit). Perfectly polished with tights and booties for day and always appropriate with heels and statement jewels for the season's most festive affairs. Viscose/rayon. Three-quarter sleeves. Shift silhouette. Keyhole closure. Straight skirt. Falls to midthigh. Import. Dry clean.
This dress reminds me a lot of J.Crew's Python-Print Silk Twill Dress (Item 91680; $198.00) from 2008. I own the Python version and love the print.

Not so sure if I like the wildcat print for the Jules Dress–it looks like an animal print but it could also look like polka dots. (However, I might change my mind once I see it in-person. At first I wasn't crazy for the Python print either. Now, I think it is darling.)

So does this means that new arrivals are once again around the corner this week!?! Seems like new arrivals are happening more often now. :)

What are your thoughts on the Jules Dress in Wildcat? Do you like the style and print of the dress?

  1. I got this e-mail too and I have to say I'm drawn to this dress. I'm not thrilled at the price point of $188 when it is viscose/rayon, but I think it could potentially be a classic piece. Yes, animal prints are trendy, but this one isn't so over the top, or screaming Peg Bundy. Plus, I think I could wear to work with tights and booties.

    Might just be mine. :)

BTW - Great posts today Alexis! Love the flashback to the Highland catalog and the accessories preview!

  2. CCS: I totally agree about the print not being over the top. I would love to see it in person. Also, thanks for the comment about the posts today. A lot of eye candy! :)

  3. The Natasha top also comes in this print. I saw it at my B&M this weekend. I liked the print.

  4. I went ahead and ordered it because guess what . . .it doesn't ship until 2/6/2012!! Figured I'd get in the queue early in hopes it would come sooner. Otherwise, I'll let you ladies know how it fits in February. . .when we will have all forgotten about it and it will probably be on sale! LOL

  5. Viscose/rayon ....? That is a crime. A CRIME.

If this dress were wool or silk, I'd buy it right this second at full price.

    Tsk tsk, J Crew.

  6. I just cringe when I see animal print clothing, over here it's redolent of brassy bar maids and tarty girls and the 80's - when I wore it! I keep it to shoes bags etc.

  7. Hum. I just clicked through to the product page, and the pic of it on the model really doesn't do the dress any favors. The pic in the email is much more attractive.

The silhouette reminds me of the silk twill python print dress, which I hope to someday find in my size. Ahhh, dreams. ...

  8. Love the photo in the email, but not the product shot. I'm not an animal print gal, but I do like the cut of this dress. Hmmm...new arrivals on the way?

  9. I agree with you Elaine re: the fabric content. WTF are they thinking!? I will not be buying this dress, not even on sale for $29.99.

  10. The fabric content killed it for me!

  11. Elaine is right: It looks so unflattering on the model--everything from the shape and cut to the color and drape is underwhelming. Not a favorite of mine.

  12. Well, I am a card member, and I still don't see this in my Inbox.

  13. "Falls to midthigh" = no. At 5'9 it actually falls above midthigh on me, and I'm not sure when that's ever appropriate.

  14. totally agree w/you Elaine. If it were decent fabric, I'd love it.

  15. I would like to see the print close up, but the zoom feature is still not working for me on the J.Crew website. Is anyone else able to zoom in on anything?

On another note: I had a post this past Sunday about some new arrivals on Net-A-Porter that should be on the J.Crew website soon. Click here to see it. :)

  16. Meh, this dress is not at all anything I would wear. I'm not a cardholder so I didn't get the email. One less spam to delete.

  17. Rose: Same here! I never seem to get any of these "cardmember" emails.

  18. Bourbon&Pearls,

I feel exactly the same way about animal prints. I cannot bring myself to wear them at all.

    Elaine,

Besides the print the fabric content is awful. What a crime is right. I look in my closet at the beautiful silk dresses and just pass on these poly, rayon, viscose nightmares.

  19. Of course rayon is nowhere on the level with silk or wool, but I'm wondering if there is some huge problem with it (and viscose) that I'm not aware of... I definitely avoid polyester like the plague, but rayon still has a good hand and feel... is there some problem with the wear of it? Cellulose based, and still 'natural'...

I agree with some posted here that the email's print placement is much better than the website image. I would totally go for it if guaranteed an ideal cut... and if it was super super on sale (maybe next year!)

  20. my store got this dress in today. I didn't try it on, so I can't comment on the fit, but the fabric actually feels pretty nice. It feels like a heavy, slightly textured silk, not polyester-y at all. But it does not (like the description says) have on-seam pockets. The pockets are sewn on to the front of the dress. But overall, I really like it.
