Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SPRING sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. 30% off final sale has been extended through Sunday and the FS is now lowered to $100+. Online.

  2. If JC wants to move this sale stuff, they should just lower the prices. I'm so tired of seeing the same things in final sale. Might stop by a store this weekend though.

  3. Newly added promo-priced items at the top of the LIST.

  4. I went quickly on Wednesday and got the Fabiola leopard print dress for $83. Not too bad considered that it has just come out. Also got a vintage cotton tee in cerise that is on sale in stores ($19.99 before the promo). The store was packed probably becauae of spring break.

  5. Uggh. When are we going to get a promo discount that applies to everything? :( I've got a cart full of goodies but I don't want to pay full price for all of them. sigh.

  6. Ema, was your store offering the extra 30% off sale items? I visited my local store last night; no signs advertising 30% off sale. I asked and was given the discount at the register.

    1. I'm not Ema, but my store did not advertise an extra 30% off...but I didn't ask either.

  8. My friend and I are making a trip to The Motherland (Lynchburg) from Raleigh to visit the Warehouse and Distribution centers. It's not a warehouse sale weekend, but we wanted to go there to compare. If we don't find much we may head down to Mebane to the Tanger Outlets.

    1. That's the JCA mecca pilgrimage. lol I hope to make it one day. Have fun!

    2. Christy, I didn't know you were near me -- I am in the Raleigh area as well! Can you give a full report when you return? I have always wondered whether the Lynchburg trip is worth the drive from here.

I just rec'd an email and apparently all the clearance stores (two in Lynchburg, Millrace Dr. and Northwynd Circle and the one in Arden) are having 20% off anything green on Friday and Saturday 10am-8pm. Isn't that funny?

    3. That is awesome, Elaine! I hope this doesn't seem weird, but if you want to join us, let me know. We're leaving here at 7:30 am and will be getting home by 5, so it may be a long day. If you can't, or don't want to, I can still give you a full report. Corbinia at gmail.com

    4. Aw, thanks! How I wish I could come along! Unfortunately the old ball and chain has me committed for other things this weekend. :( I can't believe y'all are going roundtrip in one day though -- that's dedication!

Did you go to the sale they had in Chapel Hill? I wonder if the clearance stores are like that, just bigger.

I look forward to hearing all about it so I can live vicariously through your trip...

    5. I'm sorry to say you may be severely disappointed at the clearance and warehouse stores. The last few times I was in there (literally once every month driving 4+ hours from July to December) nearly everything was damaged. From stains to tears to missing buttons/beads/sequins--you name it. If it wasn't for the sale going on I would have been pretty perturbed. It's definitely not the same quality as in years past. Hardly any samples for sale, just returns. The shoes usually are a big score though, as are the special occasion dresses. Good luck!

    6. SunnyCMG, did you go to the warehouse for their monthly sale, or just during regular store hours? I wonder if they bring out the damaged goods for the sales?

      Delete
    7. Agree on special occasion dresses, you could buy them for $20 a pop during the sale they take on the road! And swimwear is $5 per piece. Mind-blowing. It did appear that many of the items were returns, although I did spot a few samples.

Re: damages I spotted during the Chapel Hill sale .... the nice thing about your trip, Christy, is that you can take your time (and based on my 'traveling warehouse sale' experience, I suggest you do) and really examine the things you pick up. Jewelry may be broken or missing stones. Try on shoes to ensure they fit. Check zippers, etc.

There was such a frenzy in the sale I went to that I ended up with 2 damaged items. :( Not the end of the world since they cost so little, and that in no way negated the fantastic finds I found while digging around in the mountains of merchandise.

From what I hear, the Arden store is quite nice. I hope to see it in person someday!

    8. Christy, I went during the warehouse sale, but what they had in the clearance store and warehouse store had been there for a while. You can definitely find some good pieces, but just be sure to give it a good look over and ask your shopping companion to go over an item with their eyes as well. Some things may be obvious, like a snag in a sweater or a stain, but other damages are slightly harder to spot. My desire for long-lost-items-found-again caused me to overlook damages until my shopping buddy zeroed in on it.

You can call ahead and ask the associates to give you just an idea of what they have in store. On a related note, the warehouse sale for last weekend in Lynchburg was cancelled shortly after they announced it, which could be for various reasons of course, but as a former associate I have a sneaking suspicion they didn't have quite enough items for a sale. They may have sent some items to the clearance and warehouse stores to free up some space in the warehouse until the next sale... Just a possibility!

Last thing: In my opinion the warehouse store has had a larger selection of skirts, bottoms, and dressy shoes/heels (and, surprisingly, the last time they had less damaged items) than the clearance store, just in case you're working on a game plan!

    9. Thanks for the info Elaine and Sunny! I'll give a full report after the trip!

    10. Here's my report from our "road trip" yesterday. First of all, I underestimated what a hike the 2 1/2 drive is. If you are traveling from Raleigh, I would probably NOT recommend the Hwy 501 route. It's two lane from north of Durham with a lot of two lane driving and a lot of stop lights in little towns. We went to the clearance center (Millrace Dr) by the warehouse first. They had a lot of swimsuits and accessories. I didn't see much for kids or Madewell. I wear a size 7.5 or 8 shoe and they didn't have a lot of shoes in my size, but a lot of smaller and larger size. Not a lot of formal dresses. A lot of staples at the store. Prices were decent. Most items were in the $20-50 range.

The warehouse store (Northwynd) had a lot of formal dresses, kids clothes, Madewell, etc. they also had a lot of shoes. Same kind of pricing. The formal dresses were in the $50-100 range for the most part, except for wedding dresses. They also had a lot of staples there too.

Since this was my first time, I can't really say for sure if things change a lot during the year. There were more pieces than in regular retail stores, but they don't always have an item in every size. Prices were comparable to Factory Outlet sales.

    11. Oh and both stores had a lot of the ballet slippers that are so popular these days.

    12. Christy, you didn't say what you bought! lol. But thank you for the info. Yes, it's quite a long way to go roundtrip in one day. I think I would have to stay in the area overnight!

  9. I went a couple days ago and walked around the apple orchard. There is a Tippi in the apple print (100% merino, $88) and I snatched that up. It's sooo cute.

    1. LOL gigi. I have been warned about the orchard by the PS.

    2. I'm not feeling the apples overall (wait, that came out wrong!) ... I have to see some of the items IRL to make a good judgement. I had no idea they made a Tippi in that print, is it in-store only?

    3. Gigi I just got back from the Toronto JCrew and I bought that sweater, it's darling.
It seems we are buying the same items these days. ;)

    4. @ Rose - lol

@ Elaine - Apple jokes are good! New releases are set to come out next Thurs or Fri according to my online ps. My guess is it will be available online.

@ DaniBP - That's funny! My review is going up later on Sat, if Blogger launches my setup.

  11. D*ska ITA about the need for JC to just lower their sale prices. Things would move much more quickly. I don't get that.

I'm going to the b&m this weekend. I have to return the striped zipper neck Maritime style dress. I thought it was black and white striped and it's blue. Be warned. I have the blue and white striped Maritime from last year, so need for another almost exact replica. Also, i'll mention this in reviews, the neckline is a low scoop and my bra straps kept showing through on the sides when I tried that dress on.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Jruby18: Thanks for the tip on the Maritime dress! Bra straps peeking out of open necklines are such a bother - I shrug and adjust all day, and it gets to be SO distracting.

    1. I will qualify that comment by saying that maybe if I had tried a size down, it might not have been so bad. I probably could've gone w/the smaller size but they didn't have it. HTH. In any event I only wanted it if it was black and not blue.

  13. went to the crewlet yesterday - the marigold print jackie is so vibrant in color and thinner for the summer. It will look great with a tan. But the find was a maxi dress in 100% cotton black and white in vines/ivy print - fully lined with pockets for about $57 with all the discounts. I don't recall the style from retail. The store said they just got it in. They have aimee maxidresses in different colors than those in retail - think the price was $80 - then 20% off and then another 20% with coupon.

  14. Went to the JCrew in Las Vegas but no additional % off in the sale section. They did have many new (basic) items that are not yet online.

  15. I went yesterday. No 30% off in my store but quite a lot of items available, including Natasha wildcat top and hearthrob shirt in many sizes. I posted reviews HERE.

  16. Went to J.Crew Oakbrook on Friday (as usual store employees were super helpful and nice hooray!). Tried on this popover in cream with a navy vine print (not online). Looked very pretty on rack, looked matronly on me. But it might work for someone else -- good material and detailing, keep an eye out for it.

On a separate note, I wonder if Alexis would ever be interested in making a "keepers/leavers" list of J.Crew items some day. Mine is below in case anyone from J.Crew ever reads...

These are the things J.Crew needs to keep making with consistent price points:

Double serge wool pencil skirts with acetate linings
Double serge cotton pencil skirts with silk linings (or thick enough to be unlined)
Double serge hacking jackets, tipped, solid colors, but not tweeds or any texture that requires an acrylic blend.
    Jackie cardigans in all colors
    Wool Schoolboy blazers in navy
Wool gabardine & Super 120s suiting
Suiting dresses without deep v-necks and with knee-length skirts so they're actually practical for office
    Capri sandals
100% merino & 100% cashmere anything, though cable knits are kind of on their way out.
    Haberdashery shirts
Skinny leather belts in a range of neutral and bright colors that can be worn at the waist or hip
    Paisley silk blouses, scarves, etc.
Polka dot silk blouses, scarves, etc.
Blythe silk blouse in any reincarnation -- but ideally a little bit longer for taller women. If you're going to design something like Equipment, try to match the fit of those shirts better (even by adding just 1" of fabric at the hems).
Medallion print silk blouses, scarves, etc.
Popovers and Tunics in trendy materials (e.g. chambray; this can be the area where J.Crew shows a little twist)
Flannel lined khaki pants in winter (slimmer pant leg if possible!)
Minnie pants with the cut from 2009-2010; 2011-2012 cuts feature a calf that is too wide, makes the pant fit very awkwardly
Bennett or similarly slim khaki pants
5" khaki shorts in favorite fit
9" bermuda shorts in city fit
"Destination" pieces that reflect a particular location -- e.g. Peru, Brazil, India, Russia, Italy, Paris, England, etc.
Lady day coat in double cloth wool
    Stadium cloth peacoats
Plaza coat in wool/cashmere (80/20 or 90/10 blend only).
Wellies (Hunter, any brand is fine)
    Leather bomber coats
Icon trench circa 2008 with similar button detailing to then (versus now).
New cafe capri in a nice range of colors. The classic cafe capri is too flared at the bottom to be useful anymore.

    Things that should never return:
Feathers (anywhere, but especially in hair). Only McQueen pulled this off well. And maybe Christian Siriano circa 2009.
Sequins covering more than 1cm width of decoration on anything
Studs (sorry J.Crew is not some goth shop I don't care how tastefully done)
Keyholes in the FRONT of any otherwise professional shirt. This is like a mullet for a top.
    Brown plastic raincoat cape atrocities.
Capes in general (leave this to people who know how to make capes and focus material, time, money on your exceptional other coats).
Polyester linings -- seriously do you know how hot those feel in any weather after awhile?
Acrylic blends in sweaters -- to quote the ghost of Mufasa from Lion King: "Remember, WHO you ARE."
Critters -- no. just no. Go to Brooks Brothers.
Suiting skirts with hems less than 21". Honestly.
Manmade anything on shoes costing more than $200.
RUFFLES. Everyone is over you. Everyone.
Slub cotton. Let's be honest -- "slub" is really just code for "will fall apart after one wash."
Neon on regular (non-accent) pieces. STOP IT THIS IS NOT THE 80s!

Just my opinions of course, but feel free to chime in!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry like your list very much except MUST KEEP CRITTERS. I am so happy to see them back on various items at the outlet as well is the regular line. I still wear all my ctritter items from JC and I don't care for brooks brothers clothing at all. yuck
