JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  2. Would love to hear a few ideas for outfits for a trip to St. Lucia. It's not exactly a trip for pleasure (although I am going to try to sneak some island time in there), as I will be meeting with lawyers, contractors, builders etc, but I do not need to be dressed up, just respectable. The only thing I could come up with was a blouson dress paired with a light summerweight schoolboy blazer? I have quite a few of both of those. Also I didn't wat to do the whole pencil skirt thing everyday, or any day really. Any ideas are aprreciated.

    1. How about a chambray button down shirt with a gold sequin skirt?

Or a chambray shirt with just about anything...

    2. That sounds like a great outfit Adrianne. I can just imagine my Floral Long Swing skirt with one. Funny thing though, I have been searching for the perfect chambray shirt since January. Haven't yet found one that I like. Not to stiff, not too soft, not too faded, not too dark, not a tunic, no camp pockets...I feel like goldilocks!

  3. How would you style the Factory seersucker pencil skirt (with exposed zipper) for casual wear? Possible? Thanks!

    1. I was thinking a white tee/denim jacket, but really, you can wear almost anything. I made a PV set earlier for this.

  4. Cate, I would do a chambray shirt, sleeves rolled up, and some flat or low wedge sandals. You could also do a slouchy tee, or a linen tee. I got a great navy linen tee at F21 that would look great with the seersucker.

    1. You should go on Youtube and type in "ExtraPetite red skirt". She has multiple ways of styling a red pencil skirt. :)

  6. Christine, I don't have this exact skirt but I've had other red skirts. If its a true red, it would look cute with a pink and white striped button down and some light colored heels. Or a light blue top with cognac belt and shoes. If it veers more orange, you could do a green top.

    1. LOVE these ideas! I would say (from memory only) that it leans more on the red side than orange. I love the light blue and cognac color theme, I'm going to put this together immediately. Thank you so much!

  9. Oympia Suede Wedges in bright marigold. I bought them FS without ever seeing them IRL. They are so....well...bright marigold! What colors would you wear them with? I'm thinking maybe some blues like the maritime dress or the blue striped rugby dress but maybe not...help please.

  10. This is sorta OT but... where can I find a straw hat (Wide floppy brim type) that will fit my big head!? Most places only sell "one size" which does NOT fit all. The medium/large at J.Crew is usually too small for me too. Suggestions? I don't want to spend $100 on a hat, either, unless I have to!

    1. JCrewJD - Nordstrom has a nice selection, which some cute ones for $38 or so. The BP (jrs) dept should also have some low priced ones, lower than $38. Free shipping both ways or you can return to store.

However, Forever 21 is my pick. Who can beat $11 for something I'm going to sweat in for one season and want to throw away. There's one here with stripes just on the rim. And this striped one is fun. They also have solid colors in the floppies.
