JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I found the stripe ballet flats in-store and I love them, but I have no idea what to wear them with as far as casual wear. I normally wear jeans in my free time. Any suggestions?

    1. P.S. They are item number 70502. TIA ladies!

    2. I had a pair of shoes like them when I was younger. I wore them with navy shorts and a range of coloured-tees. You can wear them also with solid coloured dresses. I'd treat them as solid navy or solid white shoes. They'd look good with yellow, red, navy and white items. HTH.

    3. I think they would look cute with capri pants/jeans.

    4. I like the idea of navy cropped pants/shorts or denim with a solid color top. Thanks, ladies :)

  3. My aqua maxi skirt arrived last night (yay to the PS who shipped it to me, on sale, from Yorkdale in Toronto!)

I love the styling in the catalogue - besides a simple white tank also - words of inspiration?

    1. WMM is this not going to be a perfect piece to bring to France? You could pair it very simply with white and some sandals, there's your sitting on the terrace and drinking wine outfit right there!

    2. I see maxi skirts also styled with striped and chambray tops. How about a colorblock tee for a bit more colour?

    3. I an hopeful my ps will find this for me today in a size 2. If she doesn't I may be asking for help in the search. I like the way it is styled in the guide wiith the cardigan and bubble necklace and can see it with a linen open weave sweater over a tank top. It sorta had a boho vibe so I can see it with a peasant top and dangling earrings and a stack of bangles.. When I get it I plan on wearing it with a black tank top, with flat sandals and a chunky pale turquiose necklace. Can't wait.

    4. I agree with Celle. The June Style Guide (which is not online yet) has it paired with the Featherweight cashmere cardigan in Orchid Blue and the Bubble necklace in Turquoise.
My Jardin Maxi is on its way to me. Since a cardigan is too warm, I plan on wearing it with the Perfect-fit Ballet Button Tee in Deep Peri (which is sold out now in that color) but the Perfect-fit Tee is still available in Deep Peri.

I'll be wearing cork wedges with it since I'm a shortie.

    5. I also love AudreyBella's outfit. She paired it with the Sequin Anchor Tank. I probably won't get the tank and will substitute with my Drapey Sequin Tank in Black.

  4. Wearing the Factory casbah print pencil skirt on my blog, hoping to get some opinions about some unique ways to style it...an unpredictable color on top? A non-insane pattern mix?

    Thanks!

    1. I wore my factory casbah yesterday and after seeing a few inspiration sets on polyvore - I paired with a pink and white pinstripe button down shirt and my bright dahlia cece suede ballet flats. Here's my polyvore set:

Love the way you styled yours btw!! I thought I would be wearing more with blues and greens but I think that a contrasting color helps the skirt pop. HTH :)

    2. i have that skirt too - love it. check out some of the sets here: http://www.polyvore.com/factory_printed_pencil_skirt_in/thing?id=55824608

    3. It looks really cute with the dark top and turquoise accessories. How about a top in the colour of the Luxe silk crepe blouse in sand dune? I think the skirt has a lot of colour and pattern so you don't need a very 'loud' top.

  5. I purchased the anchor shorts and absolutely love them, however I have yet to wear them because I don't know what kind of top/blouse would look good with them?? I'm the same way with the chambray polka dot shorts? Any suggestions?? Thanks!

  6. Off topic question...I have two factory items that I ordered online that need to be returned today to be within the 60-window. My work schedule just changed, and I can't get to the store. Anyone know if I have any other option? what would happen if I mailed it back? Do stores issue credit? Or am I simply out of luck?

  7. Hi JCK - if you mail the items back, they'll send you gift cards for the purchase price.

  8. Has anyone purchased the chambray short sleeve men's version? The women's version has been sold out for awhile and I am considering ordering it in a small. Can anyone comment on the fit?

    1. I tried on the mens factory version in an extra small, and I tried to convince myself that it could work....but the sleeves were just too big -- too boxy and too long And the collar was too loose as well. I was still considering it when my daughter flat-out said, "It looks like a dude's shirt."

  9. For those of you who got (or are thinking about getting) the Hilary dress in heather charteuse (the "yellow" color) I just put up a post (see it here) with some outfit options and color pairings. I'm still looking for other ideas though, so let me know what you think!
