Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

    1. Super cute Anchor Belt at LEC for $20 (orig. $50) http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/womens-anchor-buckle-belt~235159_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::NAV&CM_MERCH=IDX_women-_-shoes-accessories-_-belts&origin=index

  2. I found the perfect floppy hat at Gap outlet... and it was only $12! It is way cuter than anything they have at the regular Gap, and such a steal for the price. I was going to get the Banana Republic floppy hat that has the grosgrain ribbon, but it is $50 which is absurd for a paper hat, essentially. The Gap outlet had all hats 50% off... they had three types of floppy (plain light colored, plain medium brown, and striped) and several cute straw fedoras with various ribbons. The floppy hats look exactly like the $50 BR one, minus the ribbon. The regular price was $22.99.

Don't get me started on how awful the women's clothes are at the Gap outlet... but the hats are awesome! Even better, they come in S/M and M/L and the M/L actually fit my giant head. I hope that helps someone.

  4. After dropping over $800 for my first time personal shopper visit I'm disappointed to say the least. The PS I worked with hasn't kept in touch with me about anything even though she said she would and even though she told me I could email her with any questions I haven't had much response back from her at all. she answered my first question a week after I sent it and I haven't heard back on my other questions. Is $800 + too small-time for a PS? Either way. I'm disappointed. I've heard amazing things about other personal shoppers but mine just isn't up to par

    1. It shouldn't matter how much or how little you spend with a PS. If she said she would get back to you with answers and she hasn't that's just bad customer service.

    2. I don't even bother with "my" online PS. The last time I spoke with her, I asked about getting the latest Lookbook, and she told me they were only for good customers.

    3. Fred, that is appalling but also kind of hilarious. My online PS was atrocious. Once I called her to place an order for an item that was dwindling in inventory and she told me that she would have to do it later because she was getting ready to end her shift (I called at 5:15 and she was off at 6).

Another time I emailed to place an order and she didn't get back to me for days, so I placed the order myself and sent her an email to let her know not to bother. About a week after that I received a confusing "we've received your order" email and realized that she'd placed the order about 12 days after my initial request.

My in-store PS is absolutely wonderful though, I adore her.

    4. Yes, shame on me for not mailing in as big a donation as others on my demographic. This year, my donations are going to candidates I can believe in and public television.

Meanwhile, has anyone gotten a PS replaced? How did that work?

  5. This might be old news, but after placing my first LEC order in a while I noticed they are now including post-paid return shipping labels with Canadian orders. It isn't free ($7.50 or so is deducted from your refund?) but I really appreciate the convenience factor of being able to pop it a mailbox vs. going down to the hellbox-always-busy Post Office.

  7. Okay, all. If you follow my blog you all already know this and have likely seen most of these preview picks, but for those of you that don't, I have posted my first post (of two) on Boden's Autumn 2012 Preview . There is a lot to love, especially if you are a fan of J. Crew circa 2005-2008. The items aren't exactly like those of the 2005-2008 era, but I suspect most of you will see the resemblence. :)

The 20% off code (which comes with free shipping and returns) expires at the end of June (I believe the 25th).
