If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  3. Wearing the 100% merino sweater dress I got in the last Talbots sale for $11 today. OMG, I am in love and wish I had bought all three colors instead of only two. It is to the knee, cowl neck, so flattering and soft! I am cheap but I would have paid more for this. It's great. I really hope Tal stays in business.

    1. I agree! I got that same dress during the mega sale (along with a few other things) and it's fantastic! I debated ordering 2 colors but didn't, and now I'm kicking myself for only getting the one! That was one great sale!

  4. I wanted a lived in looking jean (with no holes) to wear with J Crew blazers and am very happy with the fit and comfort of The Gap Sexy boyfriend jeans. Works well for a straight figure. I bought them in a tall which is only a 32" inseam, but I wear them styled as in the photo rolled up. There are many colors and washes to choose from.
I tend to wear Madewell or Urban Outfitter jeans for the fit, but these are the best boyfriend jeans I've found so far.

Extra 25% off sale through Sept. 21st

    1. Totally agree, I LOVE the Sexy Boyfriend jeans (and Gap jeans have never worked on me previously). I am a 26 or 27 in J. Crew jeans (depending on the style and amount of stretch) and these fit me in the 26 while maintaining the slouchy boyfriend look. Highly recommend!

  7. Had a very unpleasant experience with Bluefly customer service this morning, making me realize how, by contrast, J.Crew's CS may not be entirely consistent but at least I do find them helpful and willing to work with me on nearly every occasion. (In fact, I was considering emailing them because an item I ordered yesterday is $8 cheaper today as it's changed over from promotional pricing to final sale, but that's so nitpicky I think I'll just leave it alone). Anyway, I ordered a dress yesterday from Bluefly, and not until I hit the "submit order" button did I see the dreaded words "final sale". They did not appear on the item page and I didn't see them in my cart either; I simply followed an email link telling me a dress I wanted was back in stock in my size and followed the checkout process, after which I was alerted that the item was final sale and Bluefly does not let you change or cancel orders once placed. Not cool. The item is an Alice & Olivia dress, and while it looks lovely, I am not entirely sure of their sizing - I recall seeing a size 0 pencil skirt on clearance at Saks last year and it was the tiniest thing I've ever seen, and I wear a petite 0 or 00 in JC - and I would never, ever chance final sale on an item I wasn't certain would fit unless the price was so low that it justified the risk which wasn't the case. I immediately reached out to CS moments after placing the order and was told, sorry, the item is final sale and we display those words prominently all over our site. Actually, no, you don't. So now I may have to battle with them which I'm dreading. I'd refuse delivery (which I've never done before, but I'm steamed) however the package is being shipped to my office so someone in our mailroom will sign for it. Fingers crossed that it works out.

On a side note, I often wish I wasn't sized out by a lot of retailers because the Talbots deals always sound so tempting, and I would love to pick up a great quality cashmere sweater from Lands End but I know their stuff runs too large for me. (My grandmother can personally attest to the longevity of Lands End items as I don't think she's bought a new article of clothing in 20 years - lol.)

I have to honestly say, and these words surprise me, I have had a wildly different shopping experience this season than in seasons past, whereby nearly everything I've ordered from JC - and there's been a lot - I've loved (no more moments of extreme disappointment upon opening a much-awaited JC package!) and everything I've bought elsewhere frankly sucks. Even my beloved Marc Jacobs has been letting me down; I treated myself to a $300 Marc by Marc Jacobs dress at Nordstrom for my birthday and was so disappointed that I had to be coaxed out of a pair of JC cords and a tank top the night of my birthday dinner because I was being a baby about having no new dress to wear. There was just nothing about this dress that justified the price point at all, and the slip was too long for the lace overlay so every time I lifted my arms the slip hung out three inches. Straight back into the box it went.

I may actually place another JC FS order today, hopefully my last for a while since I'm pretty well stocked now for fall. Naturally they had to add a few more items to FS that I've been stalking, just to entice me ;)

    1. Dara - I can attest to the poor customer service at Bluefly as well,as I recently placed my first (and likely last) order with them. I always assumed that they were a reputable company but after receiving a Marchesa dress that was on deep discount that arrived dusty and in a sticky garment back (yuck) I decided to do some research and was actually shocked at how many bad reviews are out there on the organization related to customer service and the fact that they also have been known to sell counterfeit merchandise. It was definitely an eye-opener to me, based on how much advertising they do.

I ended up keeping my dress and having it dry cleaned but I did read endless horror stories about their return process (30+ days for refunds, etc) so I hope your dress works out...sorry to hear about your bad experience!

  12. Random question about Gap and Banana Republic:

Does anyone have both of their credit cards? Would you recommend it?

I already have a Gap card, but I know sometimes Banana has BR-only discounts.
