JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Yesterday, I wore my Holly sweater from last year. Still love it. The wool keeps me very warm. Also loving all of my plaid buttondowns. Turns out I don't feel like I have too many.

  4. I bought the sequin silver skirt. How can I style this...I am think Chambray shirt or any plaid but what shoes? Any more outfit ideas? If I won't wear it at least couple times a year and if it's not really a "classic" piece, I may just have to send it back..

    1. i think keep the shoes simple... classic pump or flat... the skirt should be the main focus

    2. Thanks @Miss JR. Now do you think I should the fitter fit or the looser of the fit. I have both 6 and 8. 6 hugs me elongated and the 8 is just looser. The reason is I don't have a flat flat tummy so I was thinking the 8, but with the right top the 6 will do..I guess I've answered my own question. Haha

    3. I think this would also look nice with a black or cream turtleneck sweater and black tights / black booties. The turtleneck and booties need to be sleek, but I would rock this look even during the day.

    4. @J, if you're not already following JCA Mygoddy (peterst1) on Insta, you can see how she successfully styled this beautiful skirt, both for a daytime and a nighttime affair. The photos are detailed and she provides info on what shoes she paired it with (I can't recall either, just know that both outfits looked awesome! You can really dress it up or dress it down.) I think you should hang onto this skirt, possibly in the smaller size, it's a beautiful piece!

Lastly, I like Beverly's turtleneck ideas above, especially about a cream-colored turtleneck, that sounds lovely!

    5. Depending on how quirky you go with your style, I like mixing something pretty formal with two fairly casual items, so I'd do the sequin skirt with a casual top and sneakers. I like the sound of chambray, then you could do something like a colorful pair of Supergas or Vans slip ons.

    6. I would do the more fitted skirt with a chunky gray turtleneck with a button down layered underneath. I think some block heel pumps or a chunkier heel would look fab, but regular pumps, knee high boots, whatever you might normally wear with a pencil skirt. I also love the chambray idea. It's definitely a fun piece to dress up or down.

    7. def chunky heels. Depending on the occasion, you may want to go for a grey cashmere tee, fitted vee, or cowl neck sweater. Silver jewelry. Kind of tailored with a twist.

  5. Also on the fence with the Pajama shirt with the red piping: it's super cute but I don't have time to keep ironing it. Should I still keep it? The fit is perfect. How else can I wear this shirt? Thanks all..

  6. Hello JCAs! Just a reminder that final sale will more than likely be back right before Christmas, so if there is anything you're wanting to try, it would be best to do it within the next week.

    1. Oh, that's a really good point, thanks, Melissa! It did cross my mind the other day that we hadn't seen it in a while so I was wondering when it might rear its ugly head.

  7. I just received my Regent topcoat in Pink sorbet. I had been contemplating it for awhile. The color is less pepto bismol than it appeared on my screen. I happen to like the color a lot. Now I'm deciding between the lady day in fuchsia blossom, a great coat but I already have it in red and their similar tonally, or this, which is a straighter more menswear inspired cut but preferred color. Posted pics on IG @wearthislikethis. Let me know your thoughts!

    1. Saw your pic of the Regent topcoat, love the color and the cut on you. It looks effortlessly chic.

Too funny, I was just looking at BB lip colors on-line and debating about the 'Pink Mauve', so I really appreciate you mentioning what you were wearing in the photo. It really helps to see the color IRL. Thanks!!

    2. I was looking for a pale pink/mod lip but my lips have a lot of pigment so some pale colors look chalky and some mid tones end up looking dark. I got lucky with this one! I also tried pale pink and almost couldn't tell the difference between the two.

    3. And thanks for the comment about the coat!

  8. Made a quick trip to the clearance store before the warehouse sale starts this weekend. I have found this is a great time to go because they are really trying to get the store stocked. They are expecting people to start lining up around 1:00pm tomorrow. The temps are in the teens there. I bought a club collar black watch shirt, the black lace and suede flats that tie on top of your foot, drake collection Bengali tiger pants, a few other random things and the Collection calf hair tote that is zebra on one side. It is an awesome piece. Collection stuff was half price. This was all less than $300.00.
