J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I returned the pink roll-neck sweater. I liked the fit a lot, but the color was too bright for me and I wasn't crazy about the fabric content. Hopefully it will be like the ruffles and the jewels and J. Crew will keep on making versions of this and eventually make one that's 100% cotton.

I decided to keep the Madewell pullover sweater in Elmwood Stripe (#g9616). It's oversized and not that flattering but the colors are nice, and it feels good on (if you like slouchy).

  2. Ratti elephant print skirts marked down and now eligible for the 40% off sale items sale.

As a bonus, not final sale. I've been waiting for this one. I don't think it's clear from the product description but it is different from the recent Drake giraffe print skirt in that it does not have an elastic waist band. It will depend on how small your waist is relative to your other measurements, but I wore a 0 in the Drake skirt, but tried the Ratti skirt on in store and (consistent with my experience with recent non-elastic midi skirts) needed a 2 in the Ratti skirt (which translates into 4P if past experience holds true).

    1. From obersvation, it may become final sale tomorrow, if it's a true sale price. I recommend grabbing it today if anyone just wants to try on

  3. I'm so tempted to get the wool tiered ruffle skirt, especially now that it's 40% off, because I got the summer version and it was a surprise love. Wondering if I should hold off for a few more days for a better promo for Labor Day. Same deal with Madewell and Anthro - I have a Madewell striped tee that is FP in my cart but ouch on paying $89 for a tee! And I really do not feel like paying for shipping at Anthro for a $20 item. I can't remember if they did Labor Day sales in the past? I feel like Anthro just ended an additional 40% off sale sale, but I need free shipping!!

    1. I do not know about Madewell but Anthropologie had Anthro days just this past weekend with free ship no minimum, 20% off full price items and I think 30% off sale items. I got phone case in glitter and some cute socks :)

    2. Yeah, you just missed like 3 days of free shipping at Anthro. They are at least offering free shipping for a $150 purchase now.

  4. 1988 Roll-Neck Sweater - sweet Jasmine. Agree with Cate, this color is brighter than it appears on-line. Also more peachy, coral than pink. This image on Ina's IG is more accurate to the IRL color than the website image on my monitor.
The fabric is a nice, dense knit. Feels soft and warm. Reminds me of a cotton sweater I hand-knit for myself a while ago, so the fact it is a blend and not 100% cotton doesn't bother me. I think adding nylon to the yarn content can make it more durable.
I do not remember the original, so the reviews related to fit on JC'x site are confusing to me. It has a roomy fit that I would say is tts if you want to layer it over something a bit bulkier like a button down or heavier tee. Could size down if you plan to wear it alone or over a light layer.
Still debating, but I will probably keep it. I think the color will be a mood lifter for the gloomy Winters we have around here. I also like the versatility or wearing it alone or with a light layer in the Fall and then being able to layer it over something heavier when I need more warmth in the Winter.

    1. My fond memories of my creamy cotton rollneck sweater of high school yore was that TTS was roomy enough to wear a long-sleeve tee under (I wasn't into buttondowns under sweaters back then), which was how that sweater carried me through an epic NYC blizzard that shut down schools for the first time in 20 years and later to New England for college.

  5. OT: The Lilly Pulitzer "after party" sale started yesterday. I got two pairs of georgia may palazzo pants and a super cute dress all for just under $200. The big down side is super slow shipping and final sale but if you know your size you can get some great deals. I believe the sale is on through tomorrow.

    1. I placed three separate orders with Lilly Pulitzer! Great sale. I look forward to it twice a year, though I wish they had regular sales throughout the year.

  6. Received my factory order:

The tie waist shirt dress is a love for me. It is a substantial chino material and the cut is lovely. It fits TTS.

The sweater blazer - if you are on the fence, do not hesistate. It is an amazing item with a similar weight and texture to the retail merino version. This one is cotton, but you almost can't tell the difference. For me, I needed to size down to an XS in the retail version. This one I took a small. I'm usually a small vs medium in factory items depending on how they're cut (bust issues always). I would say most people likely want to size one size down.

The Paris tee - I never saw the retail version IRL so it's difficult to compare. I took my normal medium size (I like my tees a little less clingy) and it fits like most of the factory collector tees do. The fabric is more substantial than the tissue tee and is more ivory than what the retail one appears to be online (again, never saw it IRL).

    1. is the tie waist shirt dress short? as in ///is it above the knees?m thanks !

    2. It falls just at my knee. I'm 5'1 though, so I would be likely just above the knee for average height folks.

    3. I'm 5'5" and it hits above my knee. It was a love for me as well, but I had to exchange it for the larger of my two sizes as it was just a bit too snug. Other items ordered (and almost all returned):

Factory relaxed pocket dress: I loved the fall colors, but it was too short for work.

Factory wooland floral print: I ordered the sleeveless shell and long sleeve shirt in this print. Both seemed to run large. I returned both as the pinks in the print were much brighter than I anticipated. It's a nice print, just a personal preference. I'm trying to be more conscientious of the prints I keep since I tend to purchase a lot and get lukewarm about them very quickly.

Friday t-shirt: TTS, it was a keeper.

Retail relaxed boatneck sweater: The reviews on this were really positive, so I am disappointed it didn't work for me. The orange color is perfect for fall and it has a nice texture. It made me look very wide and lumpy across the chest, so it hits the return pile, too.

  7. Has anyone tried the 1984 rugby yet? I am wondering if it's short and tight? I am 5'10 so don't want a crop top :). Pink and navy is already sold out in L and XL.

  8. No review... just a heads-up ...30% off select styles starting tomorrow /in stores/must present email

  9. I have the 1984 rugby! I don't feel like it's short and tight. On me, it fits like on the model in terms of where it hits on my hip (I do have a long torso). I feel like it has a nice width. I wear a small in J. Crew and the small fit like the model, but I ordered the medium too because I like the style with the white button down underneath. It looks good with the small, but I want to see how a medium looks with the white button down. I ordered the white/blue and pink/blue. It's really gorgeous.

  10. I placed a Factory order last week and was pleasantly surprised with my order. Prices are pretty good right now, even with the daily fluctuations. I tried the drapey pull on pant which is their version of the retail Easy pant. $35 is reasonable for poly pants and I took my usual size to keep the drapey fit. I'll skip the retail ones in favor of these. I also tried the high waisted balck jeans. They are on the thinner side but again for the price are a keeper. Lastly if you're not sick of ruffles, the double ruffle sleeve blouse is really cute. I got the white and I like the smaller ruffles on the sleeve. I took my regular blouse size.

  11. I received last week's factory order last night and I have to say I am quite pleased. I ordered the Relaxed Printed pocket dress in the smaller of my two numeric dress sizes. Although I am not a fan of the poly, rayon, spandex blend, it is cute on and will be a great transitional piece in fall colors and I can throw I cardigan over it once it does start getting chilly. It hits the top of my knees and it is not uncomfortably short when sitting down. It will be work appropriate for me. I am only 5'4"
The Corduroy Polka dot Shirtdress is another win for me. Purchased in my regular alpha dress size. Again to the knees for me and work appropriate. Nipped in a bit at the waist so it is not shapeless.
The Belted Shirtdress in vintage khaki. I know this has already received some love. I would agree it is a nice heavier weight fabric and great cut. I had a sneaking suspicion when I ordered it that the color would not do me any favors and I was right. It really washed me out. I would purchase this in a heartbeat in a different color but sadly this will be returned.
The Printed Double Ruffle sleeve top is cute and let's me do the ruffle trend with being over the top. It is 100% cotton. I ordered in the larger of my numeric sizes in case it shrinks. Fits great and will be cute with khakis or jeans.
The Pencil Skirt in the Floral Vivid Ink Wine print. I adore these colors. Print is vibrant and a good scale unlike some of the weird retail prints recently. This was a big on me in my regular skirt size and I plan on exchanging for the next size down.
Also ordered the Zoe Calf hair D'orsay flats which have been around for a while. Took my normal shoe size. Good quality for what I paid. They are comfortable. You can tell the quality is not up to par with retail but I still think decent quality for the price.
Overall very pleased as all the items were natural fibers with the exception and the Relaxed Printed Pocket Dress. I know these pieces will be short on some of the taller ladies but if you are short I recommend checking them out.

    1. Thanks for the reviews! I'm going to have to check out the polka dot dress now. Sorry the belted shirt dress didn't work for you. I'd love this dress in another color, too!

  12. Liberty Puffer Jacket
I live in the South and this jacket is perfect for our typically mild winters. Fit was tts for me. I'm just over 5.8 and wear a medium. There's room in the arms for a sweater & the "swing" shape is part of the style (I didn't think the jacket was too wide and boxy). I wouldn't size down because I think arms would be too constricted. This is my first Liberty purchase & the print is adorable. Colors are gorgeous & will pair well with so many choices for fall/winter. Really happy with purchase, so definitely recommend.
