J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Can anyone comment on the sizing of the seersucker Paley pants vs. the Italian stretch wool (already own the wool)? Also, have you tried to wash them (seeing as they're a cotton blend)?

  2. I almost snagged the Collection Cashmere Leopard Print sweater this morning. I was eyeing it all last year, but, at the end of the day, it was still $130 and I simply don't trust J. Crew's cashmere / sweater quality. The reviews were good, but I worry that people leave a positive review when they first receive the item and when it pills three weeks later, we don't hear about it.

It's a cute sweater, but I'm happy I "xed" out. Final Sale, you didn't get me this time!

    1. Agree on your comment that people post positive remarks when they first receive something. It's like the first date, everything is great until you get to know them! Then they start "pilling" !

  3. Picked up the long sleeve chambray shirtdress today on FS. I've had my eye on it for awhile and the reviews seem to be good. Anyone know how it holds up w/ wear?

    1. Hi eeps - I don't know how it holds up, but since you mentioned it I'll drop my review here:

Long-sleeve chambray shirtdress (G1260) - After reading a bunch of reviews about how sack-like the dress was, I opted to size down to an XS. It arrived and I couldn’t even button it closed. Agh! I thought the fabric and construction were great, but now I don’t know if I got a mis-sized one or what - this one was so small, I doubt that my regular S would fit (which makes me wonder if I got a mislabeled XXS). I may contact CS for measurements and keep an eye out for pop backs.

    2. I agree with silver_lining. I followed the suggested reviews and sized down and it is way too tight. The buttons gape really bad when seated and it is uncomfortable. You could probably size down if you are straight but I have hips and it does not work. Have not been able to catch the next size up and not sure how it would fit if I did. So I can't speak to how to holds up only that I felt the reviews were incorrect.

    3. Hmmm...I disagree. I sized down to XXS and also tried the XS and the XXS Was much better. I have a small chest but wider upper back from working out and curvy but small proportions (25 waist, 35 hips). I usually wear a 2 or 4 in button down shirts. The XXS is a tiny bit "fitted" on my upper back, my widest area, but fits neatly elsewhere.

    4. I sized down in this dress as well - I'm a 6 on top, sometimes a 4 lately and mostly an 8 in pants/6 in most dresses. I went to a small which was perfect on top and it just fit at the skirt. I am curvy too and the bottom button pulled a bit when I sat down but it was manageable. I think it probably depends on your shape. I did wash it cold/delicate and hung it to dry - seems to be in good shape but I haven't tried it on to test for any shrinking. It needs a good ironing.

    5. In case anybody else is still reading at the end of the week - I received the S and it is too big everywhere. I give up! There will be other shirtdresses. ; )

  4. Oh lawd. Now I'm nervous. I was going on the reviews and guessed I'd fit the PS. I am normally a 2 in JC all around, but with button downs I find 2s to be too tight in the shoulders so I usually avoid buying JC shirts at all. I didn't even think about using my JC shirt size as a guide.

    1. What size are you on the bottom? In J.crew clothes I'm usually a 00 in skirts and a 0 (25) in most pants (rarely a 00/24 in pants/jeans). So maybe it should really be your skirt size for the chambray shirt dress. I guess it all depends on your proportions. It's really difficult to understand sizing discrepancies. That said. I'd contact CS If you're concerned about returning something FS given the reasoning. Good night.

    2. Hi again eeps - I totally agree with Suz. Don't be nervous! I'm sure CS will be fine with accepting a return if you need to, especially if you mention that you chose the size based on what most of the reviews said.

    3. Thanks - I'll just have to wait and see! I am normally a 0/2 in JC bottoms, with a butt that is a firm 2. It's strange that the reviews can vary so much on this one item - not just a little but at opposite ends of the spectrum. This is also a good self-reminder that I need to stop playing into the FS games. The great 60% sale was the straw that broke the camel's back - I need to take a deep breath and step away from the JC website and the popbacks. BRB I'm going to throw my credit card out the window.

  5. I also received the cropped denim jacket last week and it is definitely that - cropped. Someone commented on my post last week and I didn't have a chance to respond and now I'm not sure where the post is.. but thank you for the insight. I don't think I'm keeping it as I'll probably have limited need for a cropped jacket like this but I do like the wash on it. I also received my popback of the hothouse floral silk dress (Holiday 2012!!) and as many of us have suspected...sizing has definitely changed over the years. I ordered a 6 as I'm pretty much a solid 6 in dresses these days at J.Crew and there is no hope of it being close to fitting me.

  6. Sale find reviews.

    1. Green suede lace up sandals. Sized up 1/2 size to 10.5. Pretty emerald green color & soft suede.
    2. Thomas Mason navy/white crop stripe pants. Took my normal TM size which is 1 size up. Very comfortable & nice cotton fabric. Elastic waist, so plenty of room.
    3. Collection Silk Wool Ratti Diamond Print skirt. Fit is tts; ordered an 8. Fits well & room in the waist to tuck a shirt or sweater. Love the ethnic look of the print & silk/wool is a favorite fabric choice for me in collection. Was on my wishlist & looking forward to fall.
    4. Bright hibiscus beaded floral earrings. Love the orange color; they're lightweight & nicely made with a leather backing.
    5. Collection ultra wide leg stripe pants. Heavy linen fabric that drapes well. Will need to hem just like pink ones. I sized down to a 6 & they fit well. There's an elastic waist. You can see styling options by checking out @jcrewmycrew.
    6. Thomas Mason khaki button front shirtdress. There was almost a full size run on sale, so decided to try. Took my normal TM size since I was concerned about pulling. That was the right call. Fabric is a nice crisp cotton & tie waist belt is femine. Can be worn alone or layered over pants (full length or crop).
